Pepperdine Update!

This comes from Pepperdine:

Malibu Canyon Fire Update, October 21st, 2007 at 1:22 PM

The Malibu area is experiencing a significant brush fire under windy conditions. At this time, no pepperdine structures have been lost although the brush fire continues to burn around portions of campus. The L.A. County Fire Department is on hand with two strike teams and continues to monitor the situation carefully. Steps have been taken to shelter and place all faculty, staff, and students in the Tyler Campus Center, Firestone Fieldhouse, and Payson Library. Conditions can change rapidly, so all faculty, staff, and students are urged to stay in the three assigned locations and stay off campus roads.

All scheduled events on the Malibu campus for Sunday, October 21 have been canceled.  Malibu Canyon is closed from Mulholland to PCH and PCH is closed between Topanga and Kanan

It is extremely windy here too-

This would be a good time for California to have a downpour!

That looks terrible! I guess every part of the country has one thing or another to worry about.

Anyone going to watch the debate tonight?

You’ve been doing a great job reporting it!

Give me a hurricane any day……..don’t envy you!

Comment by Karen T

They dubbed this the Canyon Fire because of the origin where it started from. It’s a sad day when you name wildfires similar to naming hurricanes.

Comment by Victoria

I know Susan. I just got back from taking my dog for a walk and the wind practically blew my hat off.

I am watching spooky cake challenge, just ready for light TV watching. Off to check on the cake construction!

I listened and watched your reporting on the CA fire today. Thank you for explaining about Pepperdine’s extensive setup for fireproofing. (The sprinklers etc.) With all the millions the homeowners in the area have, why can’t they do the same for their houses??? Those poor firemen have to go out and put their lives on the line and who knows what it is doing, long term to their lungs and for houses that they could never get near if not for the fire to fight. Take care, don’t take risks for special pictures for us. Remember even firemen get caught in between flash flames.

What kind of DV recorder do you have for using for your best recording? I read about your little handheld that you and Greta ), got. Not for me, I can only buy one, the one you guys got sounds great for carrying around for fun stuff.

Michael.. I’m watching it now… did you hear Gulliani answer the question about Hillary?? bah hahaha… Who did you think won?

Adam, can you get us a picture of one of the planes that CA has from, forget the country, anyway borrowed/rented? Said today it is a special water scouper for fighting the fires. I guess it is from another country, when the guy said where they got it, he named a country, ha, wonder if it was a companies name.

I am watching this fire on CNN Newsroom- since Fox has the Republican debate going on-

There is no moisture to be expected in the air until Wednesday- even the castle got destroyed- So it is the Santa Ana winds? This is even worse to see than the pictures-

I know Victoria- all my beautiful plants in the backyard are down- but I am grateful- this fire is awful- I am so glad I am not living there- My brother has been trying to get a hold of my cousin in San Diego- The sky is a bright orange there- all these embers flying around- The church is completely destroyed- One of the students from Pepperdine is being interviewed

Adam- Victoria and I live within miles of each other-

Fire is 0 contained? Dang!

Did you hear about Georgia? Running out of water?

Comment by JoAnn

Adam, that must be terrible. I hope everyone stays safe. Could you explain about the winds? Do they always come from the same direction? It sure sounds like they do.

Karen T-

the footage I am watching is from Canyon Country-

Adam- are you wearing goggles and a mask?

Comment by Karen T

Susan… that’s good point about the goggles and the mask! Casey was saying today when he was reporting that he had to wear sunglasses because the air was dense with stuff.

Adam: great reporting on Malibu. For those in Malibu and Topanga who wish to go south for shelter. According to the City of Malibu, Palisades High has been designated a shelter location. The Malibu City website is http://www.ci.malibu.ca.us/. Stay safe Adam!

Karen T - There were no clear winners in the debate from my vantage point. I liked things several of them said. Thus far I can’t get overly excited about any of them.

Been watching Adam’s reports on Fox this morning and those fires are something else! A face mask is a good idea, because inhaling that stuff could come back to haunt ya years later.

Comment by Susan- Phx- AZ

Smoke inhalation is very dangerous- lethal I should say-

Michael and Karen T- I am looking forward to watching the debate with YouTube questions on November 28th-

Comment by JoAnn

Adam, thanks for the explanation about the winds. I always wondered about that since they always seem to call them the Santa Ana winds. Thanks for taking the time to tell me. Stay safe Jo

Comment by Kelly,

many things to discuss… But anyway I’m not going to discuss such a personal topic. Reading it is ok, but discussing it makes you look like a chatter –box and a rumor-spreader.
