I hope this is not terrorism. Protecting us from terror is about the only thing President Bush has to stand on. If this was Al Qaeda, he's failed on this issue also.

Is anyone asking how these fires started? I see no comments or speculations. Could it be linked to illegal alien misadventure on the border...say in the Harris fire? Or for that matter else where in the state? Terrorism? ELF or other environmental extremist? That many fires at one time in so many places not geographically connected sure seems suspicious to me. Could it be linked to disgruntled illegals upset with the Gov. veto of the Dream Act? If you are a journalist, then these questions need to be asked and investigated. Your coverage is admirable but the emotional journalism about the loss of peoples homes is not helping to find the causes.

Everyone-

elieve me when I tell you that when I meet people fighting or dealing with these fires, they are very comforted to know that Americans all across the country are praying and keeping them in their thoughts. I'd like to say thank you for that. I sure hope these winds go away soon.

Thanks for the updates from the Malibu. Nice job reporting. As a Pepperdine staff member, your comforting style has allowed me to feel connected, while we should not/cannot get to the Malibu campus. I live in the SM Mountains and have been closely monitoring the advancement of the fire east toward us near Topanga.

Hopefully, the winds will stay calm and Firefighters can wrap up Malibu and get us all back to a feeling of safety. On the campus, there is a prayer service for so residents of the campus can come together and pray for those whom have been in harms way or have been adversely effected by the fires, as well as those who are fighting these fires and offering support in southern California.

Be safe my friend. You are doing a nice job presenting a calm, knowledgeable report with class & style and not sensationalizing the complicated environment.

Your alma mater is proud of you!

Godspeed,

sam

The SF Valley has windy but crystal clear blue skies. All the smoke from the high desert areas is going over Thousand Oaks, Ventura, and, essentially, north of here. If it weren't for the news, I wouldn't even know there were fires (Woodland Hills).

Re: Looting -- it might happen in places AFTER the fires but they'd be burned to a crisp in the affected areas if they tried it, OR there's nothing left, or everything is business as usual if a place wasn't burned. They usually rope off burned areas. In LA, the inner cities aren't touched.

Wind is still insane...

Adam,

Good luck getting across the valley. It's going to be difficult with the 101 being so busy. I suggest you take one of the streets through the valley that goes all the way up to the 118, if that's the direction you're headed. Might try Balboa.

Thank you for the great job you are doing!

Why the San Diego County website does not have any information about the fires, evacuations, shelters and the status of the fires? On the City website there is a lot of useful up-to the minute information. It would be greate if satellite pictures of the fire would be available on your website.

It is much too confusing, the government is not providing enough information and we rely only on the TV and radio stations.

Adam you are doing a great job and the firefighters have to be commended for the ongoing good work and perseverence. I would like to know how the smoke from all these fires is affecting the area as a whole. What are the air quality measures and is the smoke affecting a far greater area than the fire area itself? I know from personal experience that fires such as these can affect the air quality for miles around. Is the wind blowing at such a rate that the majority of smoke is being blown out away from the coast? I am also wondering why we are not hearing of looting and rioting at qualcomm stadium like we heard about in the katrina debacle?
