FOXNews.com On The Scene

Riding Out the Fire on the Radio

I’ll admit it. I am a news radio junkie. (Which would explain why I spent so much of my career as a reporter for two of California’s biggest news talkers: KFBK, and KFI!)

Our Fox News team of course, is hands down, the very best in the business, and has the most riveting reporters to take us through the story of the Southern California wildfires. Those flames… that smoke… Can’t you almost feel the heat from watching it on T.V.?

On the radio, there is nothing better than listening to my former colleagues at KFI AM 640. With one eye on the T.V. here in New York watching Adam Housley, Dan Springer, Jonathan Hunt, and Casey Stegall, I’ve also been listening to fire coverage on-line to KFI AM 640.

Radio is theater of the mind, and when you report on the radio, you always have to keep in mind that listeners can’t see what you see, which is what makes it such a thrill to deliver the story through word pictures, and painting the landscape with your vocabulary. I’ve been listening to Jodi Becker describe the “major flanks of fire” from the scene… Eric Leonard report in Orange County as he was nearly engulfed in flames himself while live on the radio. Michael Clarke, Gary Hoffman, Bill Handel, Chris Little, Terri Rae Elmer, John and Ken, back at the station at the helm taking listeners through every detail of the firefight, and bringing So Cal listeners the most comprehensive coverage you could ask for.

I would never dream of taking any listeners away from our airwaves, but if you ever have a chance to listen to the 50-thousand watt powerhouse KFI while in Southern California, (Fox News affiliate too!) check ‘em out. Chances are, you’ll be stuck in traffic anyway, but you’ll be glad they are with you!

Laura, I listen to KFI every day, which is where I first heard you paint with words! Best news radio in the business, and their fire coverage has been excellent as always. Don’t forget about Shannon Farren, she’s been breathing smoke, too! Ya know, I hear your desk is still available…

I have been addicted to WBAP 820 from Dallas for years. It makes me laugh till I cry, then I get to hear people like Rush, Sean and Mark Levine. It is relaxing past time.

Laura, miss you lots here in So, Calif. but everyone is very happy your doing so well for FNC
It was only a matter of time.
Gretta, knew a good thing to get you on board.
Everyone should listen to John & Ken via the internet on KFI 3:00 pm Pacific to 7:00 pm PST.
They should be nationwide.
Good luck from your fans here in L.A.

hi Laura, im a long time fan of ours since you were at KFI. I miss your voice saying: “Laura Ingle…. KFI Neeeews”. Actually my favorite person saying that was Jay Lawerence because he over did it. lol Anyway i think Bill “Handel” will get mad if he sees you spelled his name wrong. Quik……change it before he sees it!
