Destruction

angel450.jpgAs we drive and come to know the roads and neighborhoods here on “The Rim of the World,” we see amazing work by firefighters and also some unexplainable luck from mother nature.

In some neighborhoods every home on the street is leveled, literally melted by the intensity of this fire. Yet, around the corner and in some cases next door, a home with wood siding and a shingled roof sits unscathed.

Why and how are questions we have and I can only imagine how these neighbors and neighborhoods will begin to answer their questions about this firestorm near Lake Arrowhead.

The photos come from areas we’ve seen around Running Springs and let me tell you that thankfully, most of this area still stands. I hope and pray that others will be able to rebuild and reclaim their lives.

Thank you for all of your fantastic coverage. I have been watching for days and I am so glad there is someone like you on the mountain who actually knows what is going on. I grew up in Lake Arorwhead, went to school there, and I still have many friends there as well. Actually, my mom is still on the moutain, and she didn’t evacuate, that’s why I’m keeping such a close eye on it, watching the t.v. all the time. Not that there is anything I can do from central california, but it makes me feel better. It breaks my heart when this happens, and I am praying for everyone on the mountain, especially those who have already lost their homes. Thank you again.

Your coverage is great. Is there anyway that you can tell us what street you are on when you are reporting or is that not allowed. Do you have any news on Christmas Tree Lane or Overhill Dr. in Running Springs. My Dad has 3 homes there.

Thank you,

Thanks for leading edge blog coverage. We’re next door in Palm Springs, and can see the heroic work being done. Firefighters rule. Send all the enviro’s to Siberia.

Adam, you are doing a spectacular job, and I hate to even bring up something which, by comparison, is trivial. I know it’s an expansive area, but I’ve wondered if the air quality in Orange County has affected the attendance at Disneyland.

I just want to say “Thanks” to all the brave fire personnel who have put their lives on the line during this fire season. Your coverage was fantastic and really portraits the fieriness and destruction of these fires.

I just finished watching Shep and you-

I can’t help but think this- even with state and federal help for the people who lost their homes to this horrendous ordeal, I hope there will be facilities, as support groups, to help those who I am sure will be extremely depressed.

This is not just about restoring what was lost but the emotions will play a role too.

I am depressed just watching this-

Adam,

How are your baseball knees and your asthma holding up?
I imagine the knees are screaming in pain, not to mention the
smoke causing your asthma to flare up…

Your reports are great (as always) and the blog is a big plus for the “Housley Fan Club”

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF SPORT!!!

Additionally, let your shooter know he is taking great shots, especially the live shot Monday AM.

I am impressed with your coverage.
Now that arson is involved, and arrest has been made,
I understand that there is a south america connection here.

Please step up and push this type of crime to be considered a
TERRORIST act.

Thank you and keep up the great work here.

Adam,
Long road to recover your life after something like this, had a friend that lost everything it was the basics that threw them. They had to remember how many towels they had, how many sheet sets.

I love the pix!

Thanks for covering this devasting fire in San Bernardino County. I grew up most of my life there and my parents still lives around the area. Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs, Blue Jay and Crestline are just few of the gorgeous towns along the rim that were affected by the fire. I applauded you for being out there covering it and most of all the young and brave firefighters. Please send my heartful appreciation to the firefighters for protecting and saving all the fire victims.

Adam….You are one hell of a courageous reporter…keep up the good work and be safe out there!!!

Like many other LA residents, I have been going crazy trying to get coverage and some insight into what is going on in the mountains. I was turned on to this website- http://rimoftheworld.net/ – it has great scanner coverage of events as they occur and maps that will help people familiar with the mountains see where the fire has been.

Wow, what a picture Adam. I’ve been gone all day and this is the first i saw…and all i could do was sit here and cry. The pic speaks volumes!! Thank you!

Thanks for all you and others from FOX are doing keeping us up to date on what is happening in California. I am looking forward to hearing how my relatives in San Diego are doing.

It is hard to fathom what if must be like to watch something like this up close…surreal I’m sure.

God bless you and keep you safe,
Claudia

Whoa look at the angel that survived that fire!

If that’s Keith in that picture.. tell him I said he’s busted for not wearing goggles and a mask.

Those trees look pretty close to the house that was destroyed.

I briefly saw a report on FNC this morning of a guy that went back to his neighborhood, Mr. Wu, his house survived, but he looked like he was going to break out in tears… all of the houses around him were destroyed, but not his. There must be some level of guilt to be the last one standing.

Comment by Michael

Adam – I’m not that familiar with California geography, so I googled your winery and it appears to be far north of the fires. Is that right?

I heard Disneyland donated two million dollars-

I think Donald Trump should do the same.

Comment by Susan- Phx- AZ

Karen T-

I saw the interview with Mr. Wu- he did break out in tears- He mentioned the house at the corner who I guess the couple are about ready to have a baby- His house and a few others were still standing-

The reporter noted however, aside from smoke damage, many of these homes might have water damage due to the firefighters trying to put out these fires-

Adam-

So after these fires are controlled, do you stick around to cover the after math or will you move on to another story?

Comment by Jeff Atchison

As usual, great coverage and thoughtful commentary.

Thanks again to you, Adam and to Fox for doing a great job. The photos are heartbreaking, I hope for all the best for everyone in CA. Prayers from OH-IO

Adam-

I can’t believe you posted my sarcastic remark about Mr. Trump.

I was watching him on Larry King last week and I guess what struck a cord was as to how he stated how every tele presentation he makes, the ratings sky rocket.

What I like about you personally, aside from your great coverage, is your humanitarian side.

I am looking forward to you talking about Katrina- (mentioned to someone on an earlier blog from another day).

Have a good night-

Adam,
Thanks for your coverage. I live in Washington DC but the home I grew up in was in Grass Valley. You actually took photos of my folks house. 723 Brentwood Dr. It was extremely hard to see your videos and pictures and at the same time I as well as my siblings and my dear parents want to thank you because I think in a way it was easier to see our home through your pictures then to go up there blindly with a HOPE that our home is still standing. So in a weird way, thanks. I appreciate your willingness to go up there and try to help all of ‘US’ out.

If you get any info on when they might start allowing residents to return to recover what they can from their destroyed homes please let us know.

Thanks again.

Our home was shown in the background of the video of the house that was destroyed on Rim of the World Dr. My husband and I live in San Diego and this has been a double anxiety ridden week for us. We were given mandatory evacuation orders from our work and home in San Diego and then waited while we read on-line to see what was happening up in the mountains. We can not begin to express our gratitude to the fire fighters who saved our home. That home is our legacy to our children is filled with loving momentos from my childhood that could never be replaced by an insurance claim. We are waiting to hear when we can make the trip to come up and assess what damage has been done but again, are so very humbled by the hard work and effort that was made on behalf of the San Bernardino Fire Dept. for their efforts.

Our hearts go out to all those who have lost so much, it is just heartbreaking.

Our home was shown in the back ground of the video on Rim of the World Dr. This has been a week of double anxiety for my husband and I as we live in San Diego and were under mandatory evacuation orders from both our work and home. We have been watching over the internet (our only source of news for the mountain area), for any information on our home on Rim of the World Dr. We wanted to express our extreme gratitude to the fire fighters who were able to save our home. We understand that there is damage but it is still standing. Our home is the only legacy that we have to leave to our three children and it is filled with momentos from childhood, nothing more that would mean anything to anyone other than our children. To see it on your news program gave us some relief. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost so much. If we could somehow get a message to the San Bernardino Fire Department and thank them for their efforts and let them know that we always clean up our pine needles and keep a hose in the front and back of the house, that would be great!

Adam, you have been doing some excellent reporting and the photographs are outstanding. Your team must be tired by now, and wanted to commend you on a job well done.

I have a question and hope you can respond. On Sunday, the first day of the fire there was a group of photos on the AOL Welcome page that included a CROSS … smoke surrounded the cross and two helicopters were flying over through the smoke-filled sky. The cross seemed to be made of thick wood.

I have pulled up hundreds of photos since last Sunday but cannot find that particular cross again. It is amazing how that cross remained through the fire, and was left standing when everything around it had been burned away. My question is, “DID YOU SEE THE CROSS or KNOW WHERE IT IS LOCATED?” Hope to hear from you.
