This Sunday, better than Last

As I sit here smelling fresh air, or what seems like it for the first time in a week, I cannot believe a week has already passed. Last Sunday seemed so normal to start, I had heard the winds overnight, but early on it was clear a fire would threaten major parts of Malibu.

In the days since our crew went from Malibu to the Ranch/Magic/Val Verde Fires and then onto Arrowhead. This picture is a reminder what so many people are now facing.

The forest and wildland will eventually recover and so will those that lost so much. That is why our country is so great.

Here are the latest fire updates as far as I know em and it all looks to be good news. The two major fires left burning in San Diego appear to be stopped and on their way out. Up at Arrowhead, the Grass Valley Fire and the Slide Fire are both well under control. Firefighters are always cautious about containment numbers and always error on the side of lower rather than higher percentages. In the field, when we start to hear 30% contained, rarely does a fire rage again, unless the Santa Ana’s come back of course. We all hope they stay away until we get some rain. We did get a small sprinkle yesterday, like mist in a wind, but it did little to saturate the ground.

Adam if possible, please show us why all the grey ash. I don’t think people know why the grey color. It is hard to imajine all that ash. Maybe a foot print in it or something.

Oh wow thanks metoo! I think I see a madonna statue against that one tree. The earth will recover so quickly, I am sure there are many tears today. But most people will get back on their feet.

I caught some of your fire coverage Adam while you were in the so-called trenches!! Must have been frightfull and exhausting. Of course, tragic for so many.

While you were there, I flew into Santa Barbara on the 18th. When the Santa Ana’s began it became a tsunami of airborne ashy backwash from the month ago Zaca Fire of 240,000 acres. Then came all the subsequent smoke blown from Piru, Castaic and fernos south to join the snowing ash. It became an ‘Ashbowl’ event and no less from a dead fire.
When the rains should arrive, so will the mudslides and possible contaminated silt worries affecting the watershed. Heaven knows what the surrounding LA basin may be facing.

In the meantime, hopefully you can catch up on some no doubt sleep deprivation Adam.
Thanks for your, as always GR8 FNC coverage!!!!

Okay Adam,

Now I know it looks like there is a bird bath too, this must have been the garden area next to the truck.

I heard one neighborhood has a support group set up so these unfortunate people can get some help-

I think it is so cool how everyone is pulling together-

I saw Geraldo doing a coverage Friday night- and it was so sad to see this lady go back to her property where she had horses, dogs, chickens- the chickens died- and she thinks she can save her horses- the dogs were fine- and so happy to see her- It was so sad- so very sad-

I couldn’t enlarge the picture- and I clicked on it-
