BLOGWORLD & new media expo

During an afternoon court break, I walked over to the convention center for a quick look at Blogworld. The set-up is very cool, not nearly as large or crazy as CES (Consumer Electronics Show), but I thought it was great. Our crew of Casey Stegall, Laura Prabucki and Marc Yellin are there and reporting via streambox…yep they are reporting live over an internet connection.

Here’s a dispatch from Laura…

While the O.J. Simpson circus is back in town in Vegas, the other big show going on Sin City is the Blogworld Expo. More than 2,000 bloggers, vloggers and podcasters have set up shop at the Las Vegas convention center for the world’s first blogging tradeshow.

I had my doubts when I first got this assignment, I figured it would be a bunch of people hunched over computers.

While the laptops definitely are in full force, Blogworld has exceeded my expectations… bringing together professional and citizen journalists, industry pundits and entertainment icons.

On Thursday, one of the keynote speakers was Matt Mullenweg, a 23 year old blogging genius, who developed one of the most widely used blogging software programs, WordPress( the same one that FOX News uses for its blogs.) Matt told us he is amazed at the way the blogosphere has exploded and says this is only the beginning.
And the stats back that up. Just two years ago, there were only 8 million blogs worldwide. Today there are more than 111 million blogs being tracked… and a new blog is created every second!

The blog buzz is also catching the attention of politicians. Many of the 2008 Presidential Candidates have bloggers working for them, have blog outreach coordinators and are even blogging themselves.

If you missed this year’s Blogworld Expo, check out next year’s event here at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Wow… I had no idea that blogging was that big! I thought that was an interesting aspect about the politicians getting involved. I hope we get to see a lot of that in the near future, especially with the ‘08 election coming up.

Thanks for covering this Laura… I would have expected the same thing as you did before you went to the show.

Adam… haven’t seen you on the blog for awhile. I hope you didn’t run to the local costume shop and turn into an O.J. supporter! Although we would get a kick out of seeing Eric & Keith dressed up in barrels. :-)

I was looking at some blogs the other day and I found out about this. One blog is a Hollywood writer, that while picketing is saying “thank God for my day job”. I knew about a few blogs, but never knew there is whole blog world out there.

eerrr… it was Laura’s dispatch! You made the post! You still get credit for being the best field reporter on any network (hope that saved me) hahahah.

I think blogworld expo would be much more interesting than watching the Six Stooges preliminary hearing-

To tell you the truth, I am burnt out on OJ- he is just a dot on this map- not even that- and he causes nothing but trouble because he has personality and rage issues-

There happens to news of greater importance than some fallen football player- OJ is scary to those who are around him- but the bigger fish are out there who are much more of a threat to all of us-

Where is our picture for the day? I love them-

I hope you are getting some zzz’s- How is the asthma? Did the smoke affect you presently?

good night- and thanks for the great pictures-

Adam.. this is my first time blogging and my first post is made on your blog. You’re one of the best reporters on FNC!

Captain Hendrickson,

Just wanted to say that we are so proud of the Sailors and the rest of our military. I remember when President Regan started the bullet to bullet theory. That was important to us then, to know that our military can protect us, and it’s important to us now to know that our military is still doing a fantasic job! That must have been exciting, I wish I had the opportunity to see you guys knock the missile threats out of the air! We are routing right along with you guys!

I wish you all the best, we think about you all the time, be safe and God Bless you all!

p.s.,

that picture is wonderful!

Where did the word “blog” come from???

On the way home from Vegas, I sat next to a guy who had been interviewed by Casey. He was one of the organizers of the blogger convention. He told me that approximately 1200-1500 people attended the premiere convention. Next year will be huge!

Linda………..”Blog” is short for Weblog, which is a website of chronological postings by one , or more people, with links available for comments.
Before you ask, “Web” comes from ‘World Wide Web’, or ‘www’ which is a part of the internet. The “web” system ,when drawn out on paper, resembles that of a spider’s web with all parts serving intregal connections.

Hope that helped

Chuck.. that’s a lot of people for a blogging convention… i had no idea that convention was in town

A blogging convention? Isn’t that an oxymoron? :) Sorry, it’s late. I just spent three hours catching up on Gretawire. Her last post has attracted 955 (!!) comments, a Geraldo discussion (creepy) and a couple of crazy trolls. I had to come over here where it’s safe! I think I need a day off too…from blogging!

Comment by John

Diane………..I know what you mean, that Gretawire more resembles a chat room than a blog. Good thing Adam takes days off. I admire people that take their deserved time off……I’ll be the first to admit that I love my job, but I hate to work.

John…thank you so much for the great explanation!!

Adam,

I’ve gotten a lot of insight from your blog about the stories you have covered and learned a thing or two along the way. In other words, I enjoy your blog and the present format.
One question though….If you look at the time stamps above regarding my posts with Linda in Michigan, how could I have told her ” your welcome ” one minute BEFORE she thanked me. I always thought I was good at predicting future events…but not that good.
