Here’s an idea I’ve had…..Virtual Vacations. Where you can take a vacation and never leave the house. With the way Google Earth is coming around, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like this soon.
Just imagine, you could put on a pair of goggles, or helmet like device, and “walk” your favorite stretch of beach, “fly” over the Grand Canyon or go “sleigh riding” through the Alps and never leave the safety of your house. If we can only figure out a way to simulate the odors from these scenes then you could conceivably fool the brain into thinking you were really there. It would kind of be like the movie “Total Recall”.

John @ 8:32A………… As a former flight attendant your original ‘Virtual Vacations’ idea is my kinda of travel these days!!!!! How cool would that be, especially for those who do not enjoy air travel anymore.
I really enjoy reading about Rick Steves travels. More than likely Google/Virtual Earth … Rick Steves et all will take …..a lesson from our gadget man, Adam & gadget woman, Greta to give us virtual travel??!! Visually seeing GR8 foods automatically brings the aroma’s forth to me!!

Carolina……have you looked into Microsoft’s Flight Simulator Software series? I flew professionally myself, mainly charter and flight instruction. 9/11 put a damper on my aviation goals and I now fly a desk…….and some weekend charter flying when needed to relieve the fulltime crews. Anyway MS Flight Simming is the next best thing to the real thing for us “retired” flight crews. You should try it, I’d say it has a moderate learning curve, but not at all impossible to learn. And, no gate delays!!!!!!!!!!1

I forgot to mention that the ‘virtual’ scenery can be absolutely stunning and photo-realistic in MS Flight Sim.

Tahj is a cool name- I hope it is as easy to pronunce as it spells- I have it my head like the Taj as in Taj Mahal- except with maybe a bit of a sound on the h-

Wow……I need to start my own aviation blog. I don’t want to hijack Adam’s blog, Carolina, so just some short answers…….
I’m on an “on call” list for available crewmembers with several charter companies in the Mid- Atlantic region. Light twins and jets (Cessna, Beechcraft etc.). They call if they need additional crewmembers for their flights. Kind of a Rent-a-Pilot.
9/11 ruined many aviation careers…..the company I worked for closed it’s doors because they could no longer offer service due to the restrictions imposed on GA by the feds. We could no longer fly in and out of DCA, our main base. My bills kept coming though, so I had to make a choice. Stay in and starve, or get out and live…..I chose the latter. Although I miss flying fulltime a lot, I feel I made the right decision…….financially anyway.

Adam- Well I was almost right on the pronunciation-

My brother is into gadgets- he has all sorts of stuff- And he is a natural- like you and John-

John- how cool you flew planes- being I grew up in plane, flying from country to country as a kid, I have no fear of flying and I think planes are so cool- I don’t know if I could fly one-( U ought to see my parallel park- ha!)

You don’t need a MAC to do video chats or anything else. In fact, Windows provides many more options than Apple. I have both and the MAC has it’s software limitations.

Will you now be able to do a virtual live shot? Might take away from Eric & Rich though?

Adam ~ How long did you play for the Tigers? Did you make it to Detroit, or were you w/ the Mudhens?
