Americans for Chavez

As the Chavez election approaches and in some cases the violence has already begun, there is a strong, but thankfully small lobby of people here in the states that support the strongman as he does everything he can to become the world’s next dictator. One of those people who supports Hugo Chavez, Eva Golinger,She is a Venezuelan-American lawyer and author of a book called ‘The Chavez Code’.

Golinger claims she exposed US government involvement in the April 2002 military coup that briefly ousted the highly controversial Venezuelan President. She claims the U.S. is financially backing the opposition in Caracas and around the country. While we were in Venezuela, Golinger went on the radio in country and according to numerous local contacts, claimed my reports were inciting violence and claimed that I was lying to the American people about what was transpiring in Venezuela.Let me be very clear, everything we reported was 100% true. We were the only network in the world to attend all the ‘Chavista’ rallies while we were in country. At times we were threatened, once by an American student, who claimed to be a socialist and obviously a supporter of Chavez.

You can read my blogs from that time by clicking on HUGO CHAVEZ under the TAG section. All the recent blogs are there and if you scroll to the bottom you can find a link to all the writings from May and June. So, despite what you hear from people like Eva Golinger and Charles Barron, Chavez imprisons his opponents and in some cases deals with them in much harsher ways. He shuts down or buys off all opposition and by many accounts the poor have only gotten poorer. His support has dropped and there could be some real trouble come election time in a couple of days.

Here’s a sample of part of an article written by Golinger that names Fox News and myself. I can read and understand this propaganda, but let’s see how some of you do.

What does this say? (click the image to see it full-sized)

It is amazing to me that anyone would even support this man, not to mention the looney lefties from Hollywood going there cozying up. This man has serious mental problems….just look at the ones he hangs with Iran – Admadinejah, Castro – Cuba…. and Boluvia ….they are all a mirror of each other…a bunch of thugs.

Be safe there….I will be checking in regularly.

I just happen to have returned from a trip to Caracas and it is clearly felt that something big is about to happen one way or another. If the “No’s” win the Chavez supporters I am afraid will be sore losers. If they win “Si” , many will feel that the fix is in by Chavez croonies. The tension is very high over there and Chavez is the chief instigator of all this. This is why I really don’t like Chavez; he is a divider of his country and not a healer nor a man of peace. I believe the Students of the Opposition(No’s) will march tommorow on to Miraflores (capital of Venezuela)and I will be watching and praying. Praying that no one gets hurt and that they are allowed to voice their opponions against Chavez’s Reform. I hope as well the same for December 2nd the day that the Reform will be voted upon. December 2nd should be a day that world should take note of; where a country will be tested and what future direction it will take.

Adam… can you repost that sample of part of an article written by Golinger, please?

That link is not working on my end.

Comment by Karen T

I’ll go back through the archives and read your blogs from that time.

I’ve been watching FNC almost from the time of inception and I have never doubted the reporting from this network or any of your reports. All of the reporting that I have seen and heard over the years seemed to be backed up by facts, documentation, live shots and/or interviews.

A reasonable person would look at the accusations being made and consider the source from which they’re being made. It puts the accuser in bad light and should only strengthen the validity of your reporting.

And I can understand how and why Chavez’s support has dropped, but I’m not confident that it will make any difference on the election. There’s always the possibility that he can rig the election.

Comment by Karen T

Nelson… I’m sure you were able to cut the tension with a knife!

But I just don’t see the point in the students marching and protesting. They’re just putting themselves in physical danger. What’s the point in protesting, it’s not like they’re going to sway any of the swing voters. Chavez and croonies certainly will not listen.

The majority of the people over there are Christians and the Roman Catholic Church couldn’t even sway them. Add to that the fact that almost 50% are already on his side. If you don’t have enough common sense to see that this guy is going to hurt you if you vote him into office, then you’re messed up to begin with. You can’t reason with that level of mentality.

I pray for them too.

Comment by Karen T

Suzie, thanks for the link… I see the NY Times still supports Chavez. I can’t believe that newspaper is still in business. They are so neglectful in their reporting that you can’t trust what they print.

Karen…….I can remember the Vietnam War protests here in the U.S toward the end of that war. I believe that, although not the sole reason, those protestors did have an influence on the government’s decisions to end that war. I was just a young teenager then, so I didn’t follow it as closely as I would now, but I can remember that the country was being torn apart over this and the government was forced by the people to react.
In my opinion, a democracy thrives on protests for it’s mere survival. Just look at all the protests that finally led to our Revolutionary War, which led to our independence, which has led us here. For good or bad, without those protests, (some of which were very violent), we would probably still be under British rule. Again, only my opinion, but I think that part of today’s problems in this country is that we do not protest enough. We have become so complacent with our way of life that we believe and allow the government to do anything it wants without questioning it’s authority. It is one of the reasons that government has grown out of control……no one is protesting against it.
Part of the problem is that, because as a matter of convience, we allow the “talking heads” on TV to do the talking for us. We then choose one of these characters and rally behind him/her………express our feelings on their blogs…….argue and name call those that disagree…..and then think, “OK, I’ve done my part for democracy……time to go fix dinner”. The problem is that those “talking heads”, as important as some of them appear to be, cannot change anything any more than you could on your own. They are only one vote for many voices………where this country is based on ” We the people……..”

OK, that’s my weekend sermon for today…….I got’ta go get some work done. And Karen, I’m glad you brought it up and I hope you do not think I’m picking on you. One sign of a good friendship is that they can agree to disagree.

There is no way that if these people lived in Venezula they would like Chavez. The only reason people like this like him is because they have money and power. In Venezula you lose it all, it become’s his power and money.

Ignorance breeds ignorance.

Adam,
I would trust Fox News reporters over any others, that’s why my TV is always on FNC, unless there’s a game on, that is. You can be very proud of the work you’ve done in Venezuela – I’m sure you must be saddened by the way its people are suckered in by the pompous and arrogant Chavez — they must be crazy to fall for this nut job and his empty promises. And people here in the U.S. who support him are trying to be noticed, like naughty kids who want attention any way they can get it. IMO they are pathetic.

Comment by Karen T

John… I appreciate the debate. Perhaps I should have clarified my point. I agree with you in regards to protesting/marching and speaking out. I agree that this has helped, in some cases, here in the U.S. … But we have a legitiment democracy here where protesting can work and be effective. I don’t agree that protesting will work over in Venezuela because of the corruption in the government. I hold the same view on casting ballots for the election over there also. You can have the majority vote No on Chavez and yet he can still win because of corruption. You can have the majority protest and yet he can still win because of corruption.

I understand that protesting over there will have advantages such as the possibility of swaying swing voters, bringing this issue to light in front of the rest of the world will have a huge impact also and for the students own peace of mind (at least they used what little freedom they have left to express their view points and attempt to make Venezuela a better place to live). But to actually get people to vote No to Chavez, I think they’re putting their lives at risk.

(I really don’t know what I’m talking about here so please be patient w/ me, this is just what makes sense to me) This election can have a major effect on the rest of the world, not just the citizens of Venezuela. What I see is that U.S. and our allies have their hands tied. I don’t know if we can step in and stop the corruption, it’s not our country and we don’t have a valid reason to step in and help the people of Venezuela. So where does that leave us? We now have to rely on the Students of Venezuela to protest? I don’t think that’s effective or even enough to stop this election or at least make it legitiment. Chavez now seems to have solid ties with Iran. Somebody needs to step in and stop this guy before this spirals and gets worse. The students and opposers of Chavez don’t seem to have that kind of power. I hope I am wrong.

I don’t think you’re picking on me. I appreciat that you challenged me. 1. for entertainment purposes and 2. I need other view points. I’d rather look at the whole picture, not just what I can see for myself.

Here is the first paragraph- translated to its fullest-

Fox Started the War-

80% of the people in the United States who believe there were connections between Al Qaeda and Iraq (Irak) or think Washington has found massive weapons (arms) of destruction in Iraq (Irak), or the general public opinion internationally was in favor of the war in Iraq (Irak) comes from watching Fox News. The channel new of of the multibillionaire Rupert Murdoch is known for his brutal attacks without foundation against African Americans, Democrats, Arabs, Immigrants, Leftists, and against any person, group or government which does not support any war or imperialistic agency of Washington. And most of all, he has become famous from this effective manner in justifying and preparing psychologically the population of the students for the war in Iraq (Irak).

Moving on to the second paragraph and the rest- see you in a bit-;)

John… as far as the talking heads go.

The mainstream media seems to me to be mostly liberal, until you turn on the AM Radio where you’ll hear mostly conservative viewpoints. The average person doesn’t follow the news or politics. They hear sound bites then move on with their busy day. The average person will see a face on tv that they recognize and perhaps like and connect with, that person will make an opinion and viewer hears it. Then he goes out and votes, probably without checking on the facts and probably doesn’t have the time to form their own opinion.

Back when Bush was getting elected for the 2nd term I came across this lady who in conversation said she was voting Democrat. When I asked her why she said becuase Democrats help the people. I came across a guy that said he was voting Republican, when I asked why he said because he heard that Rush Limbaugh got busted for using presciption drugs and he uses prescription drugs and Rush is a Republican.

Are the people of Venezuela who are on the side of Chavez of that same mentality? I can’t comprehend why they would vote yes for him. Chavez has control over the media in Venezuela. Are the people of Venezuela being brainwashed my the soundbites? Do they not see the torture that Chavez inflicts on the people against him?

Comment by John

Karen……Good points and I agree that the present situation in Venezuala looks bleak for a true democratic outcome.

Just a question in fun……You say that, “You can have the majority vote NO on Chavez and yet he can still win because of corruption.” This kind of sounds like our elections in 2000 doesn’t it?……….the ones where all of America learned a new word…”Chard”.

Thank you for staying on this story Adam. Here’s a link to an interesting article I read today entitled “How Venezuela’s Church Is Challenging Hugo Chávez” written by J. Lee Grady for Charisma Magazine.

Thanks for the translation of the article Susan!

Comment by Karen T

John… ugh!!

If I recall correctly, the chads were not the only thing that turned that election… wasn’t there any issue of getting the votes from our soldiers in that were overseas?? And regardless if the votes came in the form of a vote on a paper card w/ a tiny piece of paper hanging off of the card (a chad) or if the vote came in the form of an electronic vote… none the less it was still a vote.

I always pictured in my mind Gore standing in front of a mirror, fixing his tie and repeating to himself out loud, “I can be President, I can be President”. hahahaha

And you know darn well that many facts he stated in the book are challenged by many of the top scientists. He got his facts from the bottom of the barrel and made it look good on the big screen . Don’t fall for that like the Chavistas fall for the garbage that Chavez puts out. You know what I say he do with those chads. hahahaha

Avi and all- I am going word by word- with a dictionary in my lap and using the computer’s dictionary to translate certain words as belica- which means war- (Victoria- you are back? How is your pup?)

Here is the second paragraph-

Since the beginning of the year 2005, FOX news has been utilizing the same tactics in Iraq’s case, to convince its viewers (he/she) for the necessity to overthrow President Chavez’s government, through another blow to the State, by an invasion or a war strategy or intervention. In February, 2005, FOX News presented a series of documentaries titled- The Iron Fist of Hugo Chavez. The narration of thee series proclaimed at the beginning, ‘Hugo Chavez, leftist leader, is taking Venezuela to a total totalitarism and is supporting the guerrilla’s movement in the region which could turn into a challenge for the government of Bush’s. The critics state the manner in which the government used the oil’s riches may present a threat to the region….” Further on in this series an analyst- a professor of political science-Anibal Romero- declares Chavez is a “dangerous man, confused, and anti students. And he is preparing to do terrible things.. Another specialist- Venezuelan, Leopoldo Lopez, mayor of Chacao, confesses to to FOX , “the danger we are facing as Venezuelans, is to get up day without having any liberty… Chavez controls the Supreme Tribunal and the Armed Forces, and he is becoming owner of the riches in the country and has introduced a penal code which punishes the dissidents. Anyone who opposes is subject to violence or incarceration.

Karen T – You’re welcome. I think the article sheds a little light on why some people are supporting Chavez. I don’t know if there’s any truth to the reports that he sacrificed a tiger and sprinkled it’s blood on the streets. Kind of scary if it is true. I wonder if Adam has heard anything about that.

Susan – Translating the article was a lot of work! My doggie is doing great….thanks for asking. How’s your doggie doing? Actually I never left I just haven’t been leaving any comments. I always enjoy reading Adam’s blog though. Looks like we’re going to get a little rain today.

This is just a small taste of what Adam experienced while covering the Venezuela protests…

6:13 p.m.: We have now moved yet again, our fifth location today. We are now live, the only network in the world, on the street between protesters and the police. Thousands are amassed on the streets to me; to my left, they’re chanting and singing, faced off with police; to my right, the police are shoulder-to-shoulder, standing under a major overpass. An armored car is wedged within the line.

6:22 p.m.: Shots … SHOTS FIRED! I grab a bag and slam it against a cement wall. It’s as if I am standing on the banks of a roaring river. I’m close to danger, but safely on the bank.

Rocks and bottles fly. The crowd scatters as the police lunge forward. I’m staying close to the ground and behind their shields. They open rapid fire with shotguns armed with rubber bullets. Some turn their heads as the blasts continue.

Pop, pop, pop, pop … we are against the wall. I sneak out, just a bit, to get our remaining piece of gear. My mask is covering my nose and mouth, in case of tear gas. I have goggles over my eyes. Some students have their own military-style gas masks.

The police lunge further; the students have stopped about 100 yards away … more rocks, more bottles.

I grab my microphone with the FOX News logo and hold it up yelling, “PRENSA, PRENSA!” (Press, Press!) I duck in behind the police to get my photographer shooting video of the clash. Together, we dash back to safety.

6:25 p.m.: The shooting stops and so does the rock throwing. The crowd chants again and the police retreat. Once again, there is a 20-yard space between the two. We are at an impasse. Periodically, over the next 30 minutes, students approach the officers with their hands in the air.

Both sides talk, at least for a short bit and the standoff continues.

Monday, June 4

12:02 a.m.: A three-hour press conference between Daniel Ortega and Chavez ends. It rambled for the most part, but in a country with Chavez’s alleged freedom of the press, it was a requirement for all Venezuelan channels to carry the conference. Also an interesting note, since the Saturday Chavista march was required coverage, the Sunday massive protest was ignored.

During this presser, Ortega blames “Yankee intervention,” a reference to the United States. Both leaders maintain the protests are financed by the U.S. Chavez also says he will shut down any media at any time if they oppose his so called “revolution” and that he will eliminate those who are against him.

Comment by Susan- Phx- AZ

John et al– here comes the good part- hang on to your hat or chair- this is about Adam- third paragraph-
Now I am going to insert the word guarimbas- I can’t find the literal translation- but I think it means like nonsense- so read over it-

Two years later, FOX News has taken over the war against Venezuela and its president Chavez. During the last week of May, their correspondent Adam Housley arrived in Caracas, ready to transmit in live the guarimbas and manifestations of extreme opposition in favor of RCTV. Housley carried out a dozen transmissions from different parts in Caracas in the course of ten days, which included a dangerous amount of lies, distortions, manipulations, and accusations against the Venezuelan government, in which this has caused irreparable damage to the public opinion of the students. Frequently called “brutal dictator” from the reporters of FOX News, president Chavez has been demonized in the news through this channel, evidently with the intention to justify in which one segment stated:” the necessity of another blow or something like this” to overthrow him.

Adam- she doesn’t like you- :) You bad boy you-

Victoria- raining over here- my pups are good- the one from Mexico worries me- she is so old- and it looks like she is in the beginning of glaucoma now- I am so glad you are posting again- I thought about you the other day-

Comment by Karen T

I just read Scott Liebertz’s article on his view points on how FOX News / Adam Housley made false reports from and about Venezuela.

I have seen many idiotic reports from the mainstream media in my day… but Liebertz’s report has to be the biggest SPIN and false accusations that I have ever read. Liebertz is a Moron and a Chavista.

I have searched through every H&C article, Brit Hume, Neil Cavuto and Adam Housley… I can’t find anywhere anything that backs up what Liebertz said.

I wish I had the means to call out Liebertz and take him on one point at a time, publicly, so people can see the crap he is trying to shove down our throats.

Comment by Susan- Phx- AZ

Here is the final part to the article-
The correspondent Housley mentions profoundly in his coverages, stating RCTV was the “last measure of critical communication to the gov’t of this country,” which is now closed by a whimsical decision of president Chavez. And Housley and the reporters in New York and Washington who interviewed (Chavez?), aside from those “experts” on subjects as Otto Reich, Roger Noriega, Maria Conchita Alonso and those, these are the following lies which were disseminated by Fox News in the last two weeks-

Chavez is a brutal dictator—
Opposition are incarcerated or under threat—-
There are no means of communication which is not controlled by the gov’t—
The police and Armed Forces armed up ag’st the students who manifested peacefully under direct orders of Chavez—
Chavez has taken all private property away in the country—-
Miles of opposition are on the streets ag’st the gov’t—
Those who supposedly support Chavez do it because they are paid by him, under pressure, and obligated to support him publicly.—-
Chavez supports terrorism, a dangerous threat to the USA and the regional democracy.—
There were no blows of the state in April 2002 . He resigned after ordering the violence against his opposition (comment by me- this makes no sense)—
The chavistas are paid socialists by Chavez—
The chavistas are violent socialists who attacked Adam Housley, correspondent of FOX News and his team- (could be crew or equipment- as the word “equipo” has more than one translation)-
Only FOX reports the truth of what is going on in Venezuela- (comment by me- after the Republican debate blunder by CNN, I think I would rely on FOX)—–
Anyone who supports Chavez in the exterior, is because they receive money or benefits from the gov’t—-
The blacks hate whites, the whites hate blacks, everyone hates Indians, and the Indians hate everyone because of Chavez—-
The Venezuelan Armed Forces do not follow Chavez’s orders—-
Venezuela is at a broken point- another blow to the state- this time Chavez will not return to power——

This is just a small selection of dangerous distortion and falsehoods which are being transmitted through Fox News to justify the war ag’st Venezuela: We need to me alert of these manipulations and aggression of this channel, because the same strategy was applied in Iraq’ (Irak’s) case.
In one of the segments of FOX News, 2 June 2007, a group of analysts discussed how the Internet can be used to overthrow Chavez. The last word has it came from one of the information and technology experts stated- there are not sufficient Venezuelans utilizing the Internet for this to be effective to arm and overthrow Chavez. What is needed in this case is a blow to the state….

But Salinas says these Christians have been “blinded by money, by corruption” and that they have ignored Chávez’ obvious links to the occult. It is known that Chávez participates in rituals of the Santeria religion, and that such ceremonies are performed inside the presidential palace. Chávez has also reportedly participated in occult rites in Cuba during his numerous visits with his trusted mentor, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Good job Susan-Phx!!

Now lets disect what Golinger said. If you think about it… she’s pretty smart as she used psychology to set the reader up starting with the first paragragh.

She starts the article off by putting the subject of Al Queda, Iraq and the USA out for the reader. Right there she just captured the attention of 50% of Americans, the ones who oppose the Iraq war. Now that she has their attention she lets the reader know that she’s on their side, simply by showing the reader her views on the war. Then she throws in a key name, Murdoch. A name the reader can recognize.

Now what does this have to with her accusations about FOX News reporting on Venezuela? Nothing. But she now has the unsuspecting reader’s attention.

Next section…

Comment by Patty

Wow. You all are AWESOME!

I would have never understood any of that article, (or what makes all this “tick”) thank you Susan Phx, that was a lot of work you just did!

And thank you Karen and John, I’ll say I truly enjoyed this, but only because its the only descriptive word that comes to mind. I don’t mean it literally. I hope that made sense!
I love reading all of your inputs.

Adam, you and the people here are the BEST…and better than the discovery channel ;-)

Comment by Patty

John’s Red Eye…i like that! (but that would mean HE was the one with the green hay!)

Comment by Karen T

This is where the SPIN starts, 2nd section.

OK… She’s accusing FOX News of reporting on Venezuela in the same manner that FOX News reported on the Iraq war. She even likens the ousting of Saddam to the concept of ousting Chavez. In the first sentence she puts out a preconceived notion that we intend to physically remove Chavez from government and she seems to base this on statements made to FOX News by specialists in Venezuela who are speaking out against Chavez.

Comment by Susan- Phx- AZ

Hi Karen-

I read her remarks as inflammatory in order to grasp the attention of those who read it as to poison their minds against the Bush administration and a personal attack against FOX News for reporting the news as accurately as they have- She said these antics were used to do the same in Iraq- she is clearly lost her mind- another zealous idiot-

Notice how she tries to use the race card- she accused Murdoch of being a racist- it is ploy for those who believe this ludicrous article to view us and the correspondents as nothing but a bunch of racists! (And she mocks Murdoch in a subliminal way- multibillionaire- using his wealth as a toy)

She also tries to make the readers believe we are engaging in brainwashing- (we psychologically are preparing the students to have a view on Iraq)

She appears, to me, to want to push a few buttons- I call this type of person- an instigator-
she is probably sleeping with Chavez- :(

Comment by Karen T

3rd section again she starts off using key words… war/ Fox News/ Chavez/ taking over. The brainwashing has now taken effect and subliminally the reader is now open to her theory. She closes the paragraph with a quote (that she can’t even get right) and tosses in the words :” the necessity of another blow or something like this” to overthrow him. Again using a key word “overthrow”.

Comment by Karen T

Susan-Phx

that’s an interesting point you made about how she used Murdoch and the race card and the wealth. But her audience is not the people who are against Chavez… she seems to have 2 target groups.

One would be the Chavez supporters. What she accomplishes by this is to rally them up, in a way to give them fuel or ammunition to further the rhetoric and help to give the side of supporters a louder, more up to date voice.

the other group would be people against the Iraq war who haven’t yet been interested in what’s going on in Venezuela. That’s where she’ll try to pull in additional support from around the world.

she’ll need to dig deep in her pockets to pull this one off. if only people would have the sense to not buy into this garbage, they wouldn’t spend the money or the time on these articles and these conspiracy theorists would be out of businesses. it’s the people that keep this alive.

Wow- we have had three interruptions on the electricity-

I am going to do a hegemony over the computer- I am going to turn it off before something bad happens- (I have set the clocks three times now-) :(

I am so looking forward to reading what Adam posts but according to Chomsky, we don’t read in this country- you have to go abroad to do this-

WOW Holy Cow!! You all certainly have been busy today. You said everything I wanted to so that leaves nothing left. LOL
Mr. Adam Housley will most certainly be impressed I’m sure. You get an A+ in interpretation.
It looks a little like Christmas in here too Susan :)
All lit up with :)

80% of the people in Venezuela are poor and what Chavez says appeals to 80% of the people – he has this Robin Hood persona he throws around. What I don’t understand is how our actors, like Sean Penn, can go there and buddy up to a guy who is taking all his peoples’ freedoms away from them.

Susan – thank you – great job

Adam – thank you for covering this very important story

Thanks for the Youtube link Susan. So that’s part of our problem as Americans, we’re spending too much time watching Superman movies! I find the occult link to Chavez interesting as well. I’m curious to hear if Adam has heard anything about it. Glad to hear your pups are doing well, except for the glaucoma…that’s too bad.

To all of you who made such nice comments in reference to me- but I have to fess up- I bragged so much about being bilingual and being an interpreter, Adam got sick of it and challenged me- and Kathy kept me working! :(

Victoria- to get to that YouTube, I had to listen to another one- in Spanish- so I found one hoping it could be viewed by all- but your article was excellent- it sure sheds some light-

Jen- I could not have done this without your teaching me how to do smileys- :)
(the lights went off five times- this last one lasted 45 minutes- I did not know gas stoves needs electricity- my neighbor came over to see how I was doing- I asked him why the gas stove did not come on- I guess the ignition or whatever needs electricity?)

This has been fun hanging out with all of you- Meanwhile, Hillary had a bad day and guess who died at the age of 69? Evel Knievel—- I didn’t know he was a diabetic- I care for a diabetic- so if anyone has any questions about diabetes, hit me up! Adam- dear-

Where are you? Please don’t tell me you headed off to Venezuela to do the coverage on tomorrow’s elections? At least in the article I read this morning, Chavez stated he was not going to allow CNN in but there was no mention of you-

and- I am sure you all have read this-

and threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States if it tries to meddle in Sunday’s vote.

Speaking to more than 200,000 supporters on Friday, Chavez warned that his opponents at home could try to sabotage the vote with backing from Washington through violent protests on the night of the vote.

My comments- so in other words, if he loses, it is because we all went there and voted against him and or we are now going to have violent protests on election night- so in other words, if he loses it is because it is the United States fault?

In this article he also stated- once again- about becoming the leading world power-

This is very scary- because it sounds and I will reiterate, like the makings of a Hitler- I wasn’t around for that one and I sure as heck don’t want to be around for another one-

Even from other there, he is trying to control free press over here- As per Eva’s article!

I wonder if he hears voices?

Susan – You are too funny. No problems here with the electricity. I just got back from walking my dog in the park. I only saw one other person out there. The bike trails and bridges are flooded. I took some pictures. The water is up about 3 feet at the end of my street. Hopefully no one tries to drive thru there. I know if I hear the news helicopters above, it usually means someone drove into the wash.

Victoria-

we did the same- I just got back from doing the bow wows walk- the ditch here is flooded too- I wonder where my rabbit slept yesterday- I had a jackrabbit- who would hang out in my huge vinca by the front pathway to my house here- the first time, he/she scared the heck out of me when I went to water the vinca and he hopped out- after that I was careful to check first- this vinca of mine is huge- I don’t mind Peter Cottontail but I do mind mice-

I had to clean my garage out one day because I pulled the car out and from the corner of my eye I saw a mouse- I bought bait and I haven’t seen one since- we have a ditch at the end of the street which goes on for blocks so the creatures have to seek warm shelter- Mice I have a problem with-

Have you been to Mexico lately? Where is it you go? Manzanillo? Maybe one day we can meet somewhere in Phoenix- when Adam comes here to do a coverage, we will welcome him- I am not that scary looking- I will just duct tape my mouth so he doesn’t have to listen to me-

In reference to my translating the article about Beelzebub, I see various careless  errors-
Now, in my defense, if I could go and change these I would- and if this had been the final copy, it would have been perfect- so excuse my haste makes waste errors- for the most part they are harmless errors-

So far nothing here from you- will head out to do my things- we were going to go to Wickenburg today but we have decided to do it tomorrow- Rob is setting up his holiday lights- this is the perfect day to do stuff- windy- cold- overcast-

I hope all of those who are really in cold country, you are not freezing-

Susan – That’s a cute story. I love animals. I’m in agreement with you, no mice for me. You’re right…it’s Manzanillo, but I haven’t been there in awhile. My Mom and her husband just drove through here and stopped for a visit on their way to MX for the winter. So I probably won’t be going there any time soon. Your plan sounds great, we can get together and stalk Adam when he’s in town!

Adam,
There is one thing I really like about you, you call them as you see them. I watched you in Venezula, you had respect for the people and the country. Many far left are truly socialists that refuse to admit they are. By definition socialism lies to everyone for a greater good, or what the dictator wants. I don’t worry about you as much as some that wackos attack, mainly because I have seen you stand up for yourself without a problem.

I am sure it is hard for your family though, which is why it ticks me off! But you are in great company they hate Bill O too, he is a legend.

this sounds like a great idea but it would take away from me learning new words because this archaic way of doing this helps me improve my vocabulary and I also learn the definitions- plus the spelling-

But I am going to check it out! definitely-

I read on a couple of posts the math classes you are taking- boy you are smart- I can’t even subtract without a calculator!

Here is something I found while going through my emails- sent to me by a dear friend in Texas=

“It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late.

Accordingly, I’m readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I’ll, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials – after the fact.”

It figures Adam- you are good in math too-

Avi gives himself humility because I bet he is good too in math without the calculator-

The only time I did anything worthwhile in math was in Algebra because the teacher was cute- so I paid attention-

And then there is my padre who majored in geology and minored in chemistry- what happened to the gene pool?

It is windy out there- I went to Pets mart to get the pets some dog food and boom I get hit with a big downpour of rain- which is fine- not like I had done my hair- and the traffic…. maybe if  cuts back the oil, we will have to designate certain days to do all our errands and not randomly-

But I bring this up because I just clicked on the links on the article I read earlier and guess what I found-

CARACAS, Venezuela: President Hugo Chavez said Saturday that Venezuela does not need Spanish companies, warning if Spain’s right-wing party wins elections next year its companies would no longer be welcome.

“Spanish companies go away, we really don’t need them,” Chavez said during a news conference at the presidential palace.

My comment- why don’t you, baby Chavez, go away- no one needs you-

Comment by Avi

Well kinda ….without a calculator alot of the stuff would be impossible to do however when it comes down to other math stuff a calculator dosnt help but it helps a great deal when you need to graph stuff and do other things lol….

P.s. I might have noted this before …. but in additon to Israeli school ( On strike 43+ days and counting) I take a few courses online via the university of miami online highschool soo i can get an american eduction and diploma college prepatory lol…. Been doing it for 3 years already and so far so good alot of work but i manage to balance israeli school social life and online school all together.

OO and Adam the online highschool has a Online Newspaper and we publish online every 2 months our next issue is out next week or the week after…. darn- here it is-Did Fox News Deliberately Misinform Its Viewers about Venezuela?
June 22nd 2007, by Scott Liebertz

Thousands of Venezuelan students have been in the streets of major cities protesting the Chavez governments’ actions against RCTV and what they perceive to be an assault on freedom of speech in general. Perhaps ironically FOX News should be applauded for giving so much coverage to Venezuela – not necessarily a “popular” story. But unfortunately the highest-rated network so thoroughly butchered the truth, that it is not surprising that many Chavez supporters are becoming conspiracy theorists vis-á-vis the US media. In segment after segment, FOX News anchors, along with its main correspondent Adam Housley, told falsehood after falsehood. The issue here has nothing to do with condemning or supporting Hugo Chavez. This is about how FOX News spread demonstrably false information on several occasions over the course of a week. The manipulation of fact was so extreme, that one has to wonder if it was deliberate.

FOX News viewers, who are not ordinarily connected to Venezuelan news, would likely believe that there is no longer any “opposition” media in that country – or at the most, perhaps one “small cable network” called Globovision. They would think this because FOX’s correspondent in Caracas told them this falsehood over and over again. On May 28th, during “Your World” with host David Asman, he said that Chavez was “taking over just about every [media outlet] in Venezuela” and added that RCTV was just “the latest.” In fact, RCTV is the only media outlet that can arguably said to have been “taken over.” The other stations – Televen, Venevision, and Globovision – continue to be privately owned and broadcast opposition voices (though the first two regularly balance them with government spokesmen as well). But this reality didn’t stop Housley from saying on the next day’s program that RCTV was “the last private and large television station here in the country that…was critical of the Chavez administration.” If Housely would have just turned on the other stations in the morning (or Globovision at any time of the day) he would have seen opposition members criticizing the Chavez administration. Housley went on to repeat this false characterization of the Venezuelan media landscape on Neil Cavuto’s show as well as “Hannity and Colmes.”

Perhaps Housely will protest that the other private stations don’t qualify as “large” or “national.” While it is true that RCTV had the best frequency reach of all them, only an obsessively literal-minded lawyer could claim that Venevision and Televen are not “national stations.” In fact, according to figures published in the opposition daily El Nacional, the two stations account for a 30-35% share of the Venezuelan audience. Globovision, the 24-hour station that can nearly be described as “all opposition – all of the time” was described by Housely on “Hannity and Colmes” as a “small cable network” that only reaches “a few” places in the country. Perhaps by “few,” Housley meant the three largest cities and surrounding areas where most Venezuelans live. Furthermore, Globovision has agreements with smaller market stations that carry its programs. Add to this the fact that Globovision is not just a cable station, but is carried on public airwaves and one has to conclude that it is essentially a “national” station as well. [1]

In a very frustrating exchange on “Your World” with Neil Cavuto, Charles Barron, a councilman from New York City tried to explain some of these facts, but was rudely told by Housley that he was “full of baloney.” After being introduced by Cavuto as “someone who is right there,” – thus giving the correspondent undeserved clout – Housley addressed Barron’s contentions: “[Barron] says that there are three private television stations in this country that currently operate. He is absolutely wrong.” Well, Barron was absolutely right, and it only takes about thirty seconds of internet research to confirm this (go to http://www.globovision.com, http://www.televen.com, and http://www.venevision.net). Housley then went on to say that Chavez “has shut down the media all across the country.” He didn’t give any specific examples, probably because to my knowledge, there aren’t any.

But the Barron exchange didn’t end there. Housley went on to interview “the daughter of a political prisoner” who criticized Chavez. The fact that he never put a name to this supposed “political prisoner” who was jailed solely for “having political opinions that were opposed to President Chavez” is suspicious in and of itself (and yet another example of poor journalism). But Barron was more interested in the lack of balance since the young blonde-haired, English-speaking woman was the only Venezuelan interviewed for the segment. Housley fired back at Barron calling him a “son of a bitch” and claiming that in fact he had been reporting from Opposition and Chavista rallies alike. Barron was eventually gracious in accepting Housely at his word. But the real issue isn’t whether Housley was “at both rallies.” The real issue is whether that coverage was making it on to Fox’s programs in a balanced way. It wasn’t. Barron was right to criticize the lack of balance not only on that particular segment, but on FOX’s coverage in general. And what was Barron’s reward for telling the truth about private Venezuelan media and making a fair criticism about unbalanced coverage? Well the next day on “Fox and Friends” the hosts revisited the segment and called Barron “a bit of a Wacko” and “a guy who frequently does not understand what he’s talking about.” Another host made the highly dubious claim that Housley had been broadcasting balanced coverage all week and then recommended that Barron “shut up.”

Perhaps the FOX show with the worst record of “balance” and misinformation in regards to the RCTV issue was “Hannity and Colmes.” In four consecutive segments on Venezuela, the guest “experts” were Maria Conchita Alonso, Otto Reich, Roger Noriega, and Alonso again. [2] Alonso is an actress and anti-Chavez activist who admitted on the first segment that she doesn’t even follow politics. Otto Reich is a strident anti-Castro and anti-Chavez former member of the Reagan and Bush II administrations. Roger Noriega was recently Bush II’s Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Only the liberal Colmes offered any sort of counterpoint, but even he said right from the start that he could no longer defend Chavez for what he described as shutting down the media. In segments that were extraordinary in their removal from reality, Reich claimed that Chavez would likely order the military to kill the protestors, as Reich claimed he has done in the past, Noriega explained to Hannity that the media is so controlled by Hugo Chavez that Venezuelans can’t even see images of the protests, and Alonso went on a rant about how defeated presidential candidate Manuel Rosales was in cahoots with Chavez. She also claimed that Venezuela is cursed with racial animosity that would confuse anyone who actually lives in the largely mestizo country, and went on to say that Chavez owns 65% of the media to which Hannity added “Now he owns it all” [3]. Only the first of these statements has any remote basis in fact, and that is only if you accept a declaration of martial law as being equal to an order to kill protestors [4].

One could practically write a book documenting all the misinformation on FOX News covering just this one issue in less than a week’s time. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect to this story is realizing that FOX News is the most highly rated news station, and yet its hosts and reporters seem unable to do the most basic research. Many of the hosts and correspondents of FOX repeated ad nauseum that Chavez is a “dictator” even though he was democratically elected in December by 63% of the people in an election certified by international observers, including the European Union and the Organization of American States [5]. Claims by some prominent members of the Opposition that there was indeed fraud should be respected and reported, but until the claim is backed up with demonstrable evidence, Fox News shouldn’t be treating this as the accepted truth. The hosts also constantly repeated that there is hardly any media left in Venezuela that is critical of Chavez, when the reality is that one can turn on the television every day to at least three different stations on the public airwaves and find dissent. Furthermore, most of the major dailies take a strong anti-Chavez editorial line. And you don’t even have to be in Venezuela to confirm this. Just go to the websites of El Universal and El Nacional. One has to wonder why Fox correspondent Adam Housely couldn’t go to a kiosk in Caracas and buy a newspaper or simply turn on the television in his hotel room.

The frightening answer to that question may be that he can do those things and he did do those things, but what he discovered did not fit the story that FOX News wanted to tell.

(Adam- stop telling so many lies- ) And what the heck is a kiosk?
