Attacked on the Border
U.S. Border Patrol Agents have been violently attacked more than 140 times in the last three months. Most of the attacks take place in a few mile section along the border with Tijuana and specifically next to one of the most dangerous neighborhood’s, Colonia Libertad. I am not talking about sticks and some rocks, but boulders the size of volleyball’s wrapped in cloth, doused in kerosene and lit on fire….thrown at agents as they ride near the primary fence.
Thugs on the Mexican side are upset that agents are shutting down their illegal drug and human trafficking routes and are conducting operations to occupy patrols and threaten lives. In response, the Border Patrol fires pepper guns and throws tear gas canisters over the wall’s into Mexican neighborhoods. Some human rights organizations and even a few American Newspapers have criticized the response, but the Border Patrol tells me that if needed, they would use deadly force.
They haven’t as of yet, but the tear gas and pepper balls have helped save lives and eliminate each threat. Just yesterday and agent was attacked in the same area we are now conducting our live shots. I will add more to this story later today, here’s a 3-minute behind the scenes video of the pepper gun and our ride along.

Maybe the candidates could all go put up tents and stay a week to see just what the border patrol goes through day after day instead of just letting it happen because they might loose votes. grrrrrrrrr

I had a very interesting 3 hour long conversation over the past holiday season with a friend of the family that has resided in Mexico for the past 8 years. He’s an American citizen living and working in Mexico as a consultant for an American financial institution. I quized him on many of the issues that are in the news today to get a better understanding of what the Mexican views are. What he told me was somewhat shocking tough not entirely unbelievable.
In short what he said was that if the present economic situation in Mexico continues at it’s present decline, he sees the Mexican economy collapsing from within in about two years. This is mainly due to the monopolization of their industries, corruption at all levels (private and public) and personal financial situations of it’s citizens. If that happens, he speculates a mass exodus of Mexicans to the U.S……..we’re talking 20 to 30 million starving people (out of a population of about 108 million) that will cross our border seeking food and shelter. No fence, number of guards or high tech equipment is going to stop that from happening….IF it happens.
He also said that RUMOR by some Mexican government officials that he has spoken with are saying that the US and Mexican governments are aware of the impending problems and are working on a scenario where Mexico would become a commonwealth of the US. Much like Puerto Rico is now. As crazy as this idea may sound to some, there are certain advantages to doing this………for both countries. Whatever happens, this border situation is interesting to say the least and far from over at best.
With two border patrol officers in jail, don’t these guys have A LOT of hesitation using deadly force, even if they have to, like they say?

That’d probably be a win-win situation. Americans could probably help clean up the corruption. As long as they don’t make all mexicans US citizens straight away, otherwise everyone would just cross the border.

This is getting crazy. We need to support our border control agents and do something about illegel immigration (and drug running over the border) – what will it take for our leaders to do something?
I would like to see the two imprisoned border control agents pardoned for a start.
Max……..it would also slow down the estimated $20 billion that Mexicans here in the US (both here legally and ilegally) send back to relatives in Mexico on an annual basis. Much of this money goes un-taxed and hurts both governments financially.
I support deadly force when necessary….and wish all the people yapping about us defending the border should shut up and move to Mexico…..
John: If Mexico did join El Salvador would probably sign up to. The FBI and Military would probably deal with the drug cartels a lot better than the Mexicans do now.

Max… I understand about the benefit of oil for America. But I can’t see the benefit of 30 million people legally moving here becuase there wouldn’t be a border. Our economy would be horrific with the health care system taking on that number of new citizens, our government programs would take a hard hit too.
The economy of Mexico is not America’s problem and it shouldn’t become our problem just because they can’t fix it. If they got their drug cartels under control and filter the money back into the econemy from the oil, they might have a fighting chance.

Karen T……..like Max said above. It’s really not a new idea. This is, in some way, exactly how today’s USA came to be. After the initial 13 colonies, much of what is now the US was put together this way. Sometimes the easiest way to resolve a problem is to go back to the basics you know that worked in the past.

John… this may have worked in the past, but our economy can’t take a hit like that now. We can’t even cover our future Social Security Benefits. I can’t even imagine how the Center for Disease Control would go about monitoring 30 million people that could possibly cross over.
Commonwealth can’t be the correct answer to this problem.

I graduated from Chula Vista High School back in 1985. I had many friends that lived even closer to the border than I did and could actually see people running across their lawns at night from across the border. It was a serious issue back then and I saw what was happening in San Diego at the time. We were in a no win situation because women who were pregnant would run across the border in hopes of having their children born on US soil. The advantage to this was that the baby was now a US citizen and entitled to a free education from the US taxpayers. There was actually a bus that would go to the border and pick up kids to attend school in the US.
I remember back then the friends that we had who were border patrol agents and how totally useless they felt their jobs were because there wasn’t enough being done by the government to deter illegal aliens from crossing the border and setting up shop in the US.
We moved from San Diego and I now live in a small, Minnesota town, but I see that even here, the problem is ever growing. We have several dairy farms in the area that employ illegal aliens. When ICE came to a neighboring community this past summer, the local paper wrote articles that made it sound as if the Nazis had come here and were doing door to door searches for Jews. It was honestly that poorly reported. Every day for a couple of weeks I read the headlines quoting various Hispanic community groups slamming the heck out of ICE for having the audacity to remove illegal alien criminals from the community.
This problem isn’t going to get better unless the people of the United States and the Government realize that breaking the law is WRONG. It should be treated like a crime instead of turning their backs on it as if it isn’t happening. Debates can go on and on about the good and bad points of illegal immigration on our society, but the fact remains that the word is still “illegal” and should be treated as such.
Karen T……….Yes, we have many problems of our own to contend with. However,IMHO, this border/immigration problem will not go away by simply shutting down the borders. The 30 million that could cross over that I spoke of above is a speculation that could occur IF the Mexican economy collapses, which according to the person I spoke with, is a possibility. The commonwealth idea would attempt to prevent that from happening.
I think all here are in agreement that something needs to be done. I feel that it would be better to come up with a long term solution, not a quick fix.

No one should have to put up with what the border patrol officers are dealing with. It isn’t right and I can’t get around the thought that this is no different than basic military action from an enemy invading our country and should be treated as such.

John: It’s certainly not a new idea, infact there is plenty of evidence that the founding fathers intended the whole of the Americas as one nation. The most obvious is the name of the country. Until the Declaration of Independence America refered only to both continents.

but when our daughter moved close to denver and we went to visit. It was scary. Most are/were hispanic. That is when I looked at my daughter and said “Lets go……..they dont need my money here”. And we left the cart right where it was. Avi: the 30 million would be economic refugies if Mexico’s economy failed. This is a likely possibility under the current set up. Making Mexico a US territory would be an attempt to prevent the 30 million people wanting to cross the border.
Unless the Army strung out forts all across the southern boarder watching all points it would be impossible to stop those many people from crossing.

Avi: Yes, they tried to invade Canda, but the Canadian Army were tipped off. One of the first Generals after the Revolution was over actually planned to build up an Army and take over both continents. He got as far as building up his Army.
And that was the scenario being panited. That if mexico collapsed 30 million would flee mexico for safety in America. It would be impossible to prevent that many people getting in, the border patrol with be completely outnumbered.
In such a situation Mexican drug cartels would probably start a civil war in Mexico, people would flee northward to avoid the violence, but the drug cartels would probably send many of their own north as well to take a hold of the US as well.

I agree with you on the impossibility of deporting 10 million people. At the same time, I don’t think it should be represented as it so often times is as a “David vs. Goliath” situation. That attitude truly offends me as a law abiding citizen of this country.

What’s needed to tackle illegal immigration would be first to deport all illegals picked up for any crimes. Then something like the fair tax. If illegals had to pay taxes the same as any American they’d no longer be able to work for lower wages. That would mean there would be no benefit to hiring illegals. Assign the national guard of all states to train and research border control and get deployed to the borders. That’s my comprehensive immigration plan

I hear you. I trust your opinions on this since you are a resident of a state where illegal immigration has been a long standing issue. I would like to see some really possible and presentable solutions being brought to the public by our candidates in the near future. Its too big of a problem to be handled in a haphazard manner.

You make some very good points. I have seen it here in my small community. Illegal aliens that are arrested for a crime and then released back into the community rather than deported. They then offend again. It is enough that we have so many legal citizens tipping the scales on crime without dealing with illegal residents over and over again.

I live in Minnesota, a place where you would not imagine we have a large immigration issue. Due to the large dairy farms, we do have more than our share. About 30 minutes from here I do most of my large shopping at the Walmart and Target. I was shocked to see that just in the past few months, we now have mexican tabloids all over at the check out lines and announcements over the PA in spanish. If others feel the same as me at all, I feel a little alienated as an english speaking citizen.

Sorry, I wasn’t insinuating that you didn’t care. I recognized that your smirk was at the question…and the answer…that the human rights groups had no interest in addressing the rights of our border patrol agents. “No one cares about US…”
BUT…I think you wrong that it’s impossible to deport them all. I’d say that we could induce many or most of them to self-deport, on the promise that once (and if) they clear background checks from within their home countries, they can come back with a legal work visa. No fines or anything, but the opportunity to become legal for real. That prospect would be thrown out there by the President during the State of the Union address. The other side of the coin is that those that refused to self-deport, and their families, would forever lose any prospect of becoming legal and absolutely would be subject to summary deportation from wherever they were found, along with their families. Punishments would be set in place for those that hired them too, be it a corporation or your neighbor hiring them to whack their weeds. Rewards for those that cooperate, bad things for those that don’t. It’s doable without giving away the store, without amnesty, without too many economic hits. The word “impossible” or “impractical” is defeatist and implies there’s no solution. It’s a matter of will. -Rod-

You make a good point about fines for those who employ illegal aliens. It is amazing to me how much is actually wrapped up in the economics of hiring illegal aliens. If a large corporation goes to a bank to get funding for a business and the corporation hires illegal aliens as employees, the bank won’t turn away those same illegal aliens when they come to cash a check without proper id because then the corporation would be in a bad spot and possibly default on the loan. Everyone is watching each others backs. It is deeper than most people realize. Who would report them? Would it ever be enforced?

I’m sorry John, but that is simply not true. We have a firm 20 miles from my house which I toured. They make camera and video lenses marketed to the government. I personally saw a lens that can read a license plate 4 miles away.
I made maps for a living for awhile. One of the contractors we looked at could produce satellite images capable of seeing a man in the front seat of a car. Real time surveillance from drones and satellites is not new at all; it’s been here for awhile.
High technology in security fence construction has been around for a long time. This coupled with infrared, satellite, and high quality lenses could make for a completely impassable barrier, unless one drove in with a tank.
Also, you conveniently ignore the fact that the illegals in this country are costing us billions of dollars a year right now, all on the backs of the middle class, but also at the misfortune and loss of benefits to our legal residents who happen to be in need.
They take construction jobs in the southwest because they are willing to work at slave wages. You condone slave wages? They are filling our prisons ( 15,000 at last count in the California penal system), all because a very high percentage happen to have criminal backgrounds.
We need a fence. On both borders. We need meaningful legislation and funded regulation to penalize severely any company in America which hires illegals. We need to deport each and every illegal alien we find except those who are responsible for children who were born here and therefore legal, and these parents need to have an expedited process of legalization. We need to greatly increase the number of border guards we have. We need to tighten regulation and record keeping for all who come into this country, even those who come here for an education only to use our universities to espouse terror and anti-American practices. We need to ferret out MS13 illegals and deport them immediately, and if they have criminal records, to the proper custody of Mexican officials.
Don’t expect me to want to subsidize the problems of the Mexican government when our own government is moving into a recession, when social security is going to crumble when our own people need it most. I have a kid in college, and another headed that way in a few more years. I’m on the 3k a month payment plan now, and get nothing from the government. You want to help those people, that’s commendable. Send them a check… as if it would get to where you intended it to go.
Only 100 years ago, if you look at africa you still get huge numbers of people fleeing from war.
If we pass a law that says if you are here illegally and have a child born here, that child will NOT automatically become a US Citizen, that would solve a part of the problem. I think one of the candidates running supports that idea, I wish I could remember which candidate it was.

Enforcement really is the key. One of the first things, I believe, we’d have to do is purge the Immigration bureaucracy of the careerists who either don’t do their jobs because of laziness or incompetency as well a those with dual loyalties. It’s not a stretch to say that ICE/INS is corrupt. Not only is there money to be made but some people actively work against US interests for their own reasons. The agents themselves are none too shy about telling us that their managers hold the reins too tightly. We need a change strategically as well as tactically, and some people need to be put out to pasture and out of the way. We need to treat the border as wall, not to be broached by anyone, rather than a sieve with a bowl under it to catch what gets through. The border is supposed to be a line in the sand…cross it at your own peril. -Rod-

In my six months in hospitals…..I observed and heard that babies of illegals get free medical care (that we tax payers and INSURED pay for). Those babies leave the hospital w/ full Medicaid benefits. Ask any social worker or healthcare worker. I was told that one mom came across the border when she was told her baby had a heart defect..came to Vegas.. had her baby… the baby got a fully paid for heart transplant. (WE were told that WE needed $100,000 cash upfront even w/ insurance if Matthew were to ever need a transplant, we don’t have $100,000 laying around any more than an illegal.)
We American’s can’t keep paying for the care of illegals. … I hear that the U.S. pays billions of dollars a year in social benefits.
I have an attorney friend that said 90% of the traffic violators in traffic court are illegal driving WITHOUT CAR INSURANCE or a license.
We need to do something.

Avi………the number of people, which as Max stated would be refugees fleeing the dire situation an economic collapse would create, is irrelevant. The idea that this could happen………and could happen very soon is very real. It’s happened in many other parts of the world throughout history, whether it was for economic reasons or the cruel persecution of a part of the population. For example, I’m sure many of the people you now reside with in Israel have ancestors, or maybe even themselves, fled Europe for similar reasons. Also, look at all the millions of refugeees that are escaping their homelands on the African continent for, again, similar reasons.
We here in the US have had a long history of relative peace on our continent. Mainly due to the fact that we have been able to isolate ourselves from many of the worlds problems. All those problems seemed like they were oceans away and many here ignored the plights of others across the globe. Now, however, the world seems to “shrinking” at an alarming rate…..and we, the US, are now in the thick of things to come, whether we like it or not.

That is correct Max. Apartheid was a thing of horror and despair, absolutely inhuman. But take a look at the headline on Jacob Zuma ( “Zulu Boy”) on the http://www.foxnews.com website, and tell me that the South African people are any better off than they were under Botha and the National Party.
This is the cost of free choice. Dictatorship does not spell democracy. The Boers were as oppressed by the British as the Zulus. At least the Zulus had aboriginal claim to the land, whereas the Boers simply migrated (make that, ran to) the East Cape.
I am thinking “Zulu Boy” will be as horrifying to the people of South Africa as Idi Amin was to the Ugandans.

While there are significant number of employers who may conduct business that way, there are also many more trying to wade through fake documents that look perfect and also some in the ag industry who flat out can’t find enough people to do the work no matter the price.”

The plan is an attempt to regain control as peacefully as possible. The activists would have us believe that illegals love the US as much as you and I do. Yeah right. Why should they? I live near Cincinnat and there is a large problem with illegals recently. Sheriff Brown is Well know in the area for his relentless work on the growing problem.

He has eight deputies trained now to work with ICE and will then be permitted to enforce federal immigration laws. I’m glad he’s doing this it helps the entire area.

It should be noted too that under my plan, gangs of illegal day-workers would be a thing of the past. No more crowds outside of Home Depot or 7-11 or the local rock-yard. A work visa would require that you have a job…one with an identifiable employer who’s withholding taxes, just like everyone else. No job, no visa. Lose the job, you get a new one within 60 days or go home. If you get caught out, you get deported and lose the right to come back again…ever. -Rod-

Around here, the kids seem to think they are owed something, they want the high dollar job and do nothing. When we dairyed and put up hay in small bales, we paid 5 an hr, which back then was a gold mine to a teenager. Now they wont even help you for 10/hr!!. Give me a break, they hay isnt worth that!! Why is it these kids are growing up with the idea that someone owes them something???? Parents are failing in many more ways that one. But that is a whole nother debate. But it still causes the trickle down of more problems. Honest work = pay, its not a right of passage. We’ve got to go back to basics, or none of the legislation will work!! I like the idea of self-deportation and thought there was some of that corrently happening in Arizona. Also, like the idea of putting pressure on the employers to verify the status of the worker, but understand the Government’s process is toooooooo slow.
I used to work in CA in the auto insurance field. You have no idea how many people claimed to be injured in accidents. When we were finally able to obtain information checks, we would find the male person with a Spanish type surname had the SS# of Mary Smith!
Yes, unfortunately, SS#’s are stolen and used – and there are really good people at forging documents.
And, the 14th admendment was to recognize the children born of the freed slaves. The Admendment does include the word “reside”. Unfortunately, the term reside (in the state in which they reside”) is not defined. But, does a person who crosses the border to simply have a child equal “reside”. I think not.

But i have been ever so thankful for the 31 years of honest work! Its made me a better person and i believe that for our kids too.
Do you all remember a few month ago about a fellow here from Mexico illegally and he worked here as a dishwasher for umteen years. Well, he was leaving the US and had I think $10,000 or more in cash in his bag. He he was stopped because of the amount of cash he had; no one is allowed to fly with that amount of cash. (I didn’t know that) So they then discovered he was here illegally…they took his money. He was an hard working individual and no crime history.
I sorta felt sorry for him ..

If they won’t get in line and come here legally, why should we expect that they’ll go through the necessary steps to become a citizen? Fact is, there’s no expectation of that at all. Given the political climate, they hope to stay here under the radar and get caught up in the next amnesty…by whatever name they choose to call it.

Thanks for the link. I had not heard of this before. The only good thing, he no longer has good feelings about the USA. Good. Tell that to your fellow countrymen when you get home. do we have to look at it as deporting 10 million what about just deporting a few at a time, as long as we are deporting more illegals than are coming in we will be making progress, but if we continue to let illegals come in without atleast trying to deport some then we are making no progress which is probably why there are now 10 million, until maybe recently the government has made little effort to deport illegals.

There are a lot of GOOD people that are currently here illegally. Most of the illegals I know are very hard working, warm-hearted and genuine people. Their english is usually mas o menos, but that doesn’t offend me since the original immigrants to this country didn’t learn any native languages when they got here

If the process of immigrating legally was made easier by our government (imagine the hassel of the DMV times a thousand), I’m sure we would see a decrease in the number of illegals. Then the people coming here for positive reasons would be more inclined to get here legally. The people who shouldn’t ever be allowed in our country would be the illegals and therefore easier to identify and deport.
Whatever happens, we must secure the borders. Hats off to the Border Patrol. I can’t imagine a more thankless job. They are portrayed as either doing too little or going too far. Thanks for showing us a little more of what they do, Adam.

California was number one, followed by Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, New York, and Florida.

That the immigrations laws don’t suit the illegals’ fancy, well, so what? What sort of people obey the laws that suit them or those they agree with but blow off all the others? In America we have a name for people like that – criminals.
My life would be much better if bank robbery were legal. Since it’s not, and since it would improve my life, should I go ahead and rob banks? No? I hear an alarmingly high number of students don’t feel that cheating on tests is wrong. When I was growing up.. I had a mom and a dad that took us to church … mom stayed home and took care of us and a dad that was actively involved with us.
I think the collapse of the family is a big problem… and God not being allowed anywhere.
I know when I was growing up… I was good b/c I knew God was watching and knew what I was doing. I knew I wanted to go to Heaven. I remember thinking that I knew I’d have to confess all my sins before God and everyone.. so I just saved myself the trouble and was good.

Terri…………..I think today people can be “pre-approved” for their journey into the after-life. Quick and easy approval right over the phone for those with an exceptional sin to good deeds ratio. It’s really cutting down on the ever increasing amount of applications and interviews that have to be handled at The Gate…………..and it’s helping control those that are trying to gain access illegaly………….Yes, even The All Mighty is having a problem with illegals.
I just thought of what may be an interesting question for debate. Since many in this country are followers of the Christian faith and many of our laws are influenced by our beliefs………..the question is: Could, and would, Jesus Christ approve an immigration policy? If yes, then what kind of policy would that be?

I come from immigrants, Irish immigrants that were considered trash in their home country. They came to America seeking a better life. Through generations of hard work and education, our family has been prosperous. A good majority of us are veterans, having served in the enlisted ranks of the US Army. We all work hard, save our money, and prepare for our children to go farther than we did. This country is a country of immigrants, I believe our country is truly the last beacon of hope in this crazy ass world, and I would never want to deny that to anyone. The issue I take is illegal immigration and the crime it brings. We need to secure our borders and establish checkpoints that allow people to immigrate legally. they are photographed, finger printed, DNA tested, and assigned a real social security number. They are given conditional citizenship, as they go to work, pay taxes, learn out language, contribute to society, their citizenship is stepped up accordingly until they are full on citizens. As for the illegals that are already here, they should not be deported immediately, but they should be required to register within a time frame, receive their SSN, get photographed, etc. once that grace period is expired, if they are picked up and they cannot explain why they did not register, deport them. We are living in a different time, a different age, we need to keep our shores open to those desiring freedom and wanting to work hard for their spot in life, while blocking those that would do us harm. America needs to remain a beacon of hope or we are doomed.

Derek– I think all of us came from immigrants at one point– Polish and Swede here– but given this day in time, our population has increased and continues to increase as well as the numbers increasing in crime– Our governor here is having to cut back on projects because funds are low– and this all has a trickling affect- I personally, think like Emily– in some ways– as I know many illegals– but these people are hard working and honest– but…..
I worked for John C. Lincoln- at the Children’s Dental Clinic- a non-profit clinic– John C. Lincoln, the one I worked for is in Sunnsylope, which is for the most part hispanic- I love the hispanics- being raised with them but I will say after awhile, I was extremely angry at the cheating— In order to become a part of the clinic, one had to meet the guidelines- and one of these was income- aside from all the different social security numbers I was given, they would only report one income of the several incomes coming into the household- they all had brand new vehicles and cell phones- and the women were always pregnant- (I use to ask them- Is this your last one? )
However, they would lie and fake their income and social security numbers to get the free assistance- We all knew these numbers and income were bogus– and here comes the kicker- But in order to keep the clinic running, we had to show an x amount of services being done and one of my jobs was to record all the procedures through the codes- and once a month I had to a report to send to the Director so he could send these reports to United and such agencies, so the clinic could be funded and it’s reputation and slogan- We care- could continue to operate– everyone cheated!
Now- today- I have issues– because I need the State’s help in order to keep a diabetic alive- and he is on disability- because he is truly disabled- and he is a diabetic– the only meds I ask for is his insulin- test strips- which would run me about $500.00 a month if I were to pay for it out of pocket– In the last two years, I have had to deal with the healthcare system– two years ago, AHCCS, went through a major change– the offsets- such as Mercy and a couple other agencies had to merge and close one of these down- because the funds are running low- and why is this- because every illegal and every loser is on the state plan- for food stamps and health care– and this really pisses me off– The Food Banks are to be used by the indigent and not by people who want freebies– it is in my opinion the illegals and those who use the system and soak it should have to be held accountable- as living here legally and go grocery shopping with the dollar and not a food stamp card- They seem to have more privileges than a veteran living off his social security and having to use the medical services of the Veteran’s hospital here, which I question as for efficiency-

If illegals came here, paid their OWN way … paid their OWN medical … actually paid state and federal taxes, like we all do….. didn’t take jobs that Americans should be taking … bought car insurance for the cars they drive around in … you know, all the things WE have to do and to care for our own families… I wouldn’t be upset….

I like your question. Quite frankly I’m surprised more people don’t voice their opinion when they are Christians on here as stating that they seek their answer based on scripture. Example the death penalty- I often do. God instituted governments and He expects us to obey the laws of the government.
I don’t think Jesus would mind that there are laws for immigration. We can’t have people running around and living where ever they want to and come here and break the law. Many come to the US for a better life, but in doing so they break our laws of entry and many break a lot of other laws too. Our borders must be secure for anyone wanting to come here. I think Jesus would tell the US to ‘get your act together’.
We need to ensure the safety of our country and enforce our laws and be a responsible government. People who beak the law, need to suffer the consequences; They don’t get a free ride..the only thing that is free is God Love.

I know some in Ada, Susan.
I know we can’t go around the country and round up illegal immigrants. But when they get caught doing a crime, or even a minor traffic violation, the police should be reporting to ICE and they should be deported. That should be standard. I don’t know why they are releasing people who are here illegally and putting them back into our society. There has to be some desperation that the illegals feel. They’re probably making more than they did in Mexico, but our economy isn’t that great, you need a lot of money to get through just one month here. Some of them do not know any other life than a life of crime. I don’t see them forfeiting their values once they illegally move here.
That’s a very high number of rapists that Terry LV showed us. Just one rapists is one too many. Congress should be apologizing to the victims and their families for not protecting them. When they’re done apologizing Congress should get their act together and close the borders.
We’re just an accident waiting to happen. The danger that Adam and his crew are witnessing first hand right now is right at our border. These are violent criminals that want to come here and cause problems. They want our children to buy their drugs so they get richer, they will stop at nothing to get those drugs over here, so the use of deadly weapons goes right along with the drugs.
Then we have the terrorists groups from other countries who are watching this all go down. I would think the terrorists are analyzing our weak spots. That border and the Canadian border is not secure. I can easily see the terrorists groups filtering through these unsecure borders, either on their own ability or by paying the drug cartels to help them.
It’s a frightening thought to know that the sleeper cells can be here already, spread across the US, just waiting for their direction and orders to cause maximum damage to us. If they’re not here already, we’re just giving them an open invitation to come on over.
I don’t think that I’m stretching too far here. These are real possibilities and American citizens better keep this in mind when they go to vote. When it comes time for re-election of Congress Members, re-evaluate what they have done in the past to protect us from another 9/11, before you vote them back into office.
Right now, all I see coming from Congress are arguments, vacation breaks and concentration on Bills that are less important. Congress owes us all an apology.

I’m sure someone’s already mentioned this(but ADD kicked in and I didnt read all the posts), but remember the texas border watch webcam that was set up and tested on a website a while back? You could see live feed and see them crossing into Texas and you could push a button to report them and within a few seconds it seemed you’d see the headlights of the border partol cars to pick up the illegals.
I’m personally tired of them being let go when they’re in an accident or get pulled over and don’t have the proper paper work. It’s getting really irritating. I was involved in an accident in which I was hit and injured by an uninsured, unlicensed, and illegal individual about 5 years ago; the police officer told me there was nothing he could do and he let them go. Why isn’t there SOMETHING they could do?! Then again, they wont get a license because they dont have paperwork so we can’t track them and fine them or call them at fault. I’m not talking about EVERY person, dont get me wrong. I just wish there were something law enforcement officers would do. We’d never be able to get away with the things they do. ~But maybe I just complain to much~ I am not sure.

You are right, the farms (pig & dairy) are hiring illegals. It is happening right in my very own county. There isn’t a person in this country that could convince me that the owners of these establishments don’t know their employees are illegal aliens. If i know it, they have to know it.
They do go to the bank to cash their checks which are cashed without a question because they are drawn from that bank. They do NOT have valid, United States id with a very few exceptions. The only reason we don’t have as much money sent outside of the country from here is because of the information required for a wire.
We will often get a truck or car full all in to cash their payroll checks and not one of them has a drivers license. The few times that they have gone into the ditch with a vehicle, the cops arrive to find no one there.
I have seen these things first hand.

Your point is valid to complain about Nic-AL … Aren’t there States where the officials are telling the police officers to do nothing when they stop or arrest an illegal immigrant and the reasons are that it’s not their job to enforce illegal immigration or they don’t have the funds to do so?
But they’re putting them right back into our communities to commit more crimes. Whatever cost it was to arrest them the first time, the cost just doubles the second time. If the Federal Governement had control they would send the money to the states, have a Standardized process and eliminate the chance that State Officials or State Court Judges would enforce their own personal opinions.
This border issue is something that is affecting us Nationwide, not just State by State. Federal should be in control.

That is a pathetic story. I agree with you and I am frankly sick of it. We had an illegal alien kill a passenger in her car when she was intoxicated and actually drove through a store front. After the accident it was discovered that she had been collecting welfare money illegally. This was only this past summer and to the best of my knowledge she is already out of jail. She was not deported and her “sentence” was basically a slap on the hand. There don’t seem to be any clear cut procedures on dealing with these situations and so they will continue to escalate. The passenger was also an illegal alien. I think she was ordered to pay back the money, but how do they ever expect to collect if she has no job and her fiance doesn’t “officially” collect a pay check? Its like a never ending cycle of garbage. I would like to think that my status as a legal US citizen gave me some form of protection against those that are here illegally, but I don’t believe that at this point.

Terri… that’s got to be frustrating! There was a case last year where an illegal brutally raped a young girl, they let him out and he raped again, but this time killed the girls.

they remind me of the fact that healthcare workers used to tell us that it was a shame that we weren’t illegal (when we had ran out of health insurance for the baby) …. because had our baby been born to an illegal … he would have been eligible for full medical benefits by Medicaid…
we of course, didn’t qualify b/c we “earned too much” (trust me, no one earns too much when it comes to paying medical expenses like ours were) … and here my husband is a born American, tax paying, Gulf War Vet and a PO that puts his life on the line every single day.

When Lacy Peterson was killed, her mom was able to get a law passed pretty quickly that said if you murder a pregnant woman, you will be charged with 2 murders.
When Jessica Lunsford was killed, her dad was able to get Jessica’s Law passed pretty quickly that increases penalties for pedophiles.
Why can’t a law be passed when a US Citizen gets killed or raped by an illegal that says they need to be deported once caught. Or when they get caught with drugs the law should read that they get deported immediately, as to reduce the risk of the drugs filtering down to our children.
And why should this even have to lobbied? Our safety and well being should come first, at least before they get their pay increase.

Good points. What you said about the laws, our government not listening, those are all valid. The only difference I can see is that there seems to be an outcry that people are truly upset about illegal immigration. What I don’t see is a common direction on what needs to be done. If there was one group that people could put their effort towards, one voice out there getting the media coverage, the opportunities to plead their cases to the lawmakers, that might help.
It seems that there are tons of stories of injustices out there, but I would like to see one very united, big front. It is possible that there is one out there and I just haven’t seen it. I have seen hispanic lawyers and community activists coming publically the aid of illegals when they are in a bind, who comes to the aid of the legal citizens?
Example: If we had one organization that was national like, “US Citizens for Legal Immigration” and every time that someone’s child or husband or mother were killed, raped, assaulted by an illegal alien, they were right there tending to the victim and callling press conferences, it wouldn’t be long before it would be noticed. Just an idea.
I hate to do this, but I watch Glenn Beck whenever possible and I wish to the good Lord that he was on Fox. He brings a lot of these little cases up on his show and I really appreciate the media coverage from him.

Just thought I’d chime in. I’m in AZ, like Susan, but further south. Illigal immigration causes myriad problems down here, but so many people are afraid to say anything because if they do they are immediately labeled as racist. Sometimes that’s the case, but not always. Saying that it’s too hard to get here legally is disingenuous. Many people do it all of the time. No, it’s not easy, but nothing that is important is easy. My father and my mother-in-law are both naturalized citizens; my family should know. Why should proximity mean that illegals from Mexico should get an automatic exemption or “jump the line” when it comes to coming to the US? That’s one of the things that really annoys people who follow the rules, swear to uphold the constitution and become contributing members of our society.
A number of the people coming over are hard-working folk who just want a better life for themselves, that I do not doubt. Having lived in a latin American country for two years, I can understand why and I can sympathize. But if a person comes here illegally, it already sets up a mind set that shows a disregard for our laws and lawful behavior that our country asks of its residents. With the tightening of border corridors, more illegals are making deals with “coyotes” who say they will transport them across safely. Unfortunately many of these coyotes are tied in w/the drug cartels who either lessen their fees or make it a condition of their crossing to transport drugs as well, escalating the slide into antisocial and criminal behavior.
Part of the mindset that causes illegals from Mexico and Latin America to be more liable to engage in criminal behavior is cultural. Corruption and graft is a way of life, which dates back to the colonial era. The Conquistadors were often very minor or illigetimate offspring of nobility who came over to get as much as they could and set themselves up as they “deserved”. Unlike our founding fathers who fled religious persecution and then tried to set up a government that prevented others from being presecuted for their religious beliefs, many of these people perpetuated systems they felt treated them unfairly and even exacerbated the problem. To this day there are the very wealthy families and there is “everybody else” in these countries. Most of the wealthy can trace their lineage back to Europeans and there is still alot of classism and predjudice based on ancestry and skin color or “indio” blood. Culturally, corruption, grafts and bribes are seen as “victimless” crimes and the family is everything, superceding law and government. Again, setting up an attitude that lends itself for the disregard of law abiding behavior. What’s sad is that these are the very people who would form the basis of a revolution if they stayed in Mexico to try and effect change – which is one of the many reasons why their government has no interest in stopping the flow of illegals.
For those of you who cite religious understanding for those who are disadvantaged, remember that Jesus also said, “give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s”. This in response to Pharises who were trying to get him to speak out against the law of Rome. Helping the poor doesn’t mean you have to help them break the law.

The law says that you have to allow illegals to go to school here. But these kids aren’t even residents! We recently had a case where a high school student was caught posessing drugs and, when the school found he was illegal as well, turned him over to the police and immigration. The students marched in protest and now the school system said they won’t call the police. Is that ridiculous, or what?
The one thing that I really get upset about is business. The bottom line – they wouldn’t come if there wasn’t work available. And I am really suspicious that our government has no interest in solving the problem – if they weren’t illegal they couldn’t be as easily exploited.

The border paatrol guys in jail had their trial…like it or not on the decision that is the system…making Mexico a territory like PR is a horrible idea. That country is so screwed up and currupt that any country would be crazy to want any affiliation with them. All they do is take take take from the USA economy and give nothing back except to take jobs away from Americans. The illegals should all be rounded up by any means possible and deported asap. If the parents aren’t American citizens then the child shouldn’t be granted it either (law needs to be changed). That country offers the USA nothing but more trouble and crime. We need to build a big fence and electrify it like around US prisons and Government bases. If the illegals attack our border patrol guards they should retaliate in like kind and measure. This is our country the USA and not the mexicans or the canadiens or any other NON US citizens to demand entry into….

Illegal is illegal. You are right. All I’m saying is having dealt with many government offices myself I have no respect for the bureaucratic BS that over complicates the most simple of processes. If candidates were screened and the “worthy” ones were allowed to immigrate legally and quickly, then logically the illegals would be the bad people that couldn’t pass the screening and then no one would complain about having them deported. As for illegals getting health benefits, welfare, etc. once again another bureaucratic mess that should never have happened.
I know, it’s pathetic. I work for a repair shop and I see people that constantly have to pay because they’re hit by the uninsured illegals (and uninsured period). We’d never be able to get away with it. I didnt have my insurance card with me one night and the ‘nice’ officer threatened to tow my vehicle before I had my husband drive to meet me with the insurance card.
Forgot to mention earlier, a friend of mine was in an accident with 3 gentlemen. One had proof of insurance, one had a green card, and one had a valid driver’s license….they combined all the info and handed it to the officer and they let them go. She never saw a dime and her insurance went up!!

You are not misinformed. I have personally cashed welfare checks to people that I know to be illegal aliens. As far as the health care issue goes. I had a friend that worked the emergency room at LA County General and you are right again. They have to receive medical treatment, they cannot be denied. Most of them have no “permanent” address for bills to be sent and so on.
Even IF they didn’t get the childbirth itself for free (which they do) they have a legal, US citizen living in their home now that is entitled to an education on our soil, paid for by the taxpayers…again…FREE to them. Just imagine the headlines if you try to now deport these parents whose child is attending school in our country.
I have seen personal examples of this myself. Anyone who wants to say that you are misinformed is either believing the wrong person or reading some seriously incorrect statistics.

Well, I am going to homeschool my little one…
our public schools are sooo dumbed down for the non English speaking kids….. here in LV over 55% of the kids in our public schools are Hispanic and from what I’m hear, most of that 55% does not speak English…
so..
I will be sure my son gets the best education and religious upbringing. He will say the Pledge using God’s name in it.

Janis….actually the idea would prevent another 20 to 30 million from coming across the border. These are speculated numbers if there is a collapse of the Mexican economy (which may happen if present conditions persist) then these people would flee north to the US.
Just a little note from Boston here. We are so over run with illegals that several stops on the Blue Line subway are in Spanish only- no English! East Boston used to be Italian but is now strictly Hispanic and I would dare anyone to try to find one sign in English. We joke about taking our Passports to East Boston. You can thank your local liberals and their “sanctuary cities” for helping create this crisis. Just a note: the Gov. of Mass., Deval Patrick, is now trying to pass legislation allowing illegal aliens to pay reduced rates for college tuition, ie, resident rates. Outrageous!

As of 6:50pm EST, there have been 240 posts here in about a 24 hour period, dealing with a subject matter that some people are calling a major problem and maybe the most important issue we’ve had to deal with in modern times………immigration policy and reform.
In a 4 hour period, on the same blog, the plight of one 60 something retired footbal player/actor has earned 294 posts.
Don’t forget guys and gals we need to mention the 14th Amendment that gives illegal children the American benefits. Let me tell you a story here..in Kentucky….I have worked in restaurants for 15 years and we all know you can’t go into a restaurant these days without being overwhelmed with illegals…well around here anyway…..Young illegal girl (20) pregnant with her 4th child….3 other children were born here in the USA …after the birth of the 3rd child she decided she was going back to Mexico……waited for kids passports (ended up staying longer then planned cause it took longer to get their passports) went back home to Mexico..about 4 months later she showed back up at work again and again she was pregnant….. I asked her if she went “home’ and she said yes..I asked how her kids were and she stated they were still in Mexicco with her family…I asked hy she came back…so she could have her baby here…….ok here comes the best part….For this company I was a shift manager..I had access to the office and all employee files….This girl came into work one day while I was on duty and she handed me a paper from the dept. of family and children…..She needed it filled out so she cold get medical and social benfits while she was pregnant….i laid in on the desk and DID NOT fax it to the home office…..The next day I returned to work and I foound the paper again laying on the desk…I was looking at it and noticed on the spot where list
“the members of your family in your home” the kids name that were still in mexico were listed on there as well..I told the manager about our conversation (he knows she is illegal…don’t doubt for one second) he took the paper and faxed it knowing she was committing fraud and told me that it isn’t my place to police the illegals. Unless we stoop it at the employers it isn’t going to stop along with social programs and schools.

Donny………Glenn Beck had a Texas sherrif on his show some time ago that said the same thing. Apparently these Mexican troops are going to stores and truck stops inside the US to re-supply their units that are stationed along the TEX/MEX border with food and water. IMO, that’s yet another sign that the Mexican government is incapable of running it’s country………..I mean if they can’t even supply their own troops with basic necessities, how are they going to control the smuggling of drugs and illegals across the border? Just think of the morale problems they must be incurring.

I question why it is so impossible to deport some 10 million illegals? Recent studies have shown that a computation of the continued support of the illegals from all government & private resources (diverted from legal residents and citizens) would far surpass the cost of the deportation of the same number of people.
The recent prosecutions & disciplinary actions against our Officers & Agents on the Border have been widely publicized in Latin America. The publicity has only emboldened those Latinos wanting to cross the border illegally. They would like nothing better than to cause further ‘embarassment’ to the USA, the Border Patrol, etc. in order to cause more and more controversy and confusion on the part of the citizens and leaders in the US.
The fact that we have over-zealous Federal Prosecutors that appear to be acting at the behest of our sitting (on his hands) President, does nothing to dissuade the potential illegals from trying to cause an “international” incident.
There is also the ‘back’ story regarding the apparent groundwork being laid for a North American Union similar to the European Union…..with Open Borders, a common currency (the Amero) and a usurping of National Sovereignty and the US Constitution.
I am seriously worried that this nation will not resemble anything like what I grew up to love, respect & serve.

I recently saw the 14th Amendment was cited as the reason children of illegals are immediately allowed citizenship. The reason, is the interpretation has been extended from its original meaning. The Bill of Rights and original Constitution made no provision for immediate citizenship.
The portion of the amendment which could be challenged, is the “and of the State wherein they RESIDE”. The word “reside” is not defined. But, could a woman entering the country simply to give birth really be a resident of the state?
Consider this, a person from one state who elects to attend college in another state is required to pay “out of state tuition”. However, this same person can elect to establish “residency”, but this usually requires “living in the state a minimum of 6 months – and most are 1 year!
And, how do they establish “residency”? The usual requirements are: show a legal address on your drivers license issued in the state in which you are seeking residence, have your vehicle registered in that state, show valid employment – i.e. pay stubs, tax forms.
So, again, why do illegal aliens (they are not immigrants, in my mind) get a pass on these rules?
Below is just the first portion of the 14th Amendment – the one cited by all as to why a child born here is “entitled” to be an immediate citizen.
Amendment 14 – Citizenship Rights. Ratified 7/9/1868. Note History
1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
What was the purpose of the 14th Amendment?
The 14th was designed to ensure that all former slaves were granted automatic United States citizenship, and that they would have all the rights and privileges as any other citizen. The amendment passed Congress on June 13, 1866, and was ratified on July 9, 1868

I used to work at a company in Los Angeles that had absolutely NO PROBLEM with knowingly hiring illegal aliens … They also hired “white” people to the “face” & “voice” of the company … The illegals got paid the SAME amount as the “whites” … Though, they got paid in cash (so they had no deductions from their pay) … The illegals (as well as the legal employees of Hispanic descent) were treated BETTER than the whites because the owners were Sephardic Jews (the ones that the muslims started kicking out of Spain in the 1100s-1200s & later) … The owners would talk to the hispanics in Spanish, even though they all spoke English … Some of the illegals were from Mexico & some were from Guatemala … If something went wrong with the clientele, it was the whites that would always have to “fix” the mess & placate the clientele … When disgruntled employees would call the Feds, they’d just scoff it off … We tried INS (immigration & naturalization service) & they didn’t care … We tried the IRS because the owners kept 2 sets of books & the IRS didn’t care … Heck, LAPD didn’t even care and some were regular clientele (& 1 officer was even married to an employee) …
There was one ironic thing – 2 of the illegals looked down on the others (Those two were actually much better educated than the others – Even more surprising was they spoke better English than people born here in the US – They didn’t even really have an accent either) … It was strange to see basically a class warfare between illegals (even from the same country) …

Not one citizen or legal resident of this country should have to go hungry, be denied a job, education or government benefits because an illegal is getting any of those benefits.
The illegals should not EVER have the same rights that I have.
The only rational solution is to first INVITE all illegals to return to their original country voluntarily and do it with the whole family and all their money & property. Those that choose to stay and take their chances should then be apprehended and sent to Deportation Centers. Where their cases can be decided in a Quick & Speedy Process. Then deported to their country of origin.
Those that have stayed should have their property & funds seized in order to finance their sheltering while awaiting a Deportation Hearing and to send them (& their families) back to their country of origin.
Deportation Centers could be set up at former Military Bases that have been closed by the Pentagon & Congress, thus the facilities would already be available for housing & security and even transportation via aircraft/runways/etc.
Just as the United States cannot be the World Police Force, we cannot take the total number of refugees, undesireables and unwanted of the entire world.

Why could we not build a huge wall around our border? Like the Great Wall of China. Has any one in our government ever taken a serious look at this question? Do you think it would go against our beliefs in this country to live in a “free” environment? I am not suggesting holding any one in our country from leaving, but illegal trespassers out. I think we should welcome people that are going through our legal channels of becoming a citizen, but not the people that flee across the line. The other comment that I want to make is: How do these people live here that come across the border? How do they rent a place to stay or get a vehicle etc. with no ID or social security card? Maybe I live in a sheltered environment here in Chattanooga (although we do have a large population of illegal people working in the carpet mills near here in Dalton, GA) but ever where that I have tried to live or buy a car requires some sort of ID.

I know my idea was too extreme but had hoped someone -with more smarts than me- might have some input on such a way.
