Is he in Guadalajara?

fbi_laurean_080115_ms.jpg

A very good contact of mine sent me an e-mail that I received on my blackberry as my plane landed. He is very well conected in Mexico amongst law enforcement and the government and he says the hunt for Laurean is very hot right now.He says the Mexican government believes he is in the Guadalajara area and are working with U.S. and international officials to hunt the man down.

I can tell you from being in Mexico and speaking with the new Attorney General on two occasions, this Mexican government is different than when Vincente Fox was in charge.I have been told the same by detectives from several different police departments here in California that have to work with Mexican authorities south of the border to hunt down their fugitives. Here’s more
Missing Marine Cesar Laurean, wanted in the slaying of a pregnant colleague, visited relatives in Mexico last week, a man who said he was his cousin told The Associated Press Tuesday.

Reports in Mexico say that Laurean had briefly stopped by the liquor store of Juan Antonio Ramos Ramirez in Zapopan, just outside Guadalajara. Speaking to The Associated Press late Tuesday from his store, Ramos Ramirez said Laurean walked into his store last Monday or Tuesday and the two cousins exchanged about 10 minutes of small talk about their respective families.Laurean then told Ramos Ramirez, whose mother is Laurean’s sister, that he had to get back to two friends waiting outside.Days later, Ramos Ramirez saw a television report that Laurean was wanted in the U.S. for killing 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.Authorities have said they suspected that Laurean fled to Mexico, but the comments from Ramos Ramirez were the first public confirmation that the Marine had been in the country.

I feel that cesars wife knew more than she is telling..its so sad how brutal this murder was.. when it involves a child that is about to come into this world makes it more tragic…I hope the family gets justice… I hope that his wife is some how held responsible for her role in this.. which I think is greater than we know… as a mother of two grown daughters.. I feel the grief of marias family.. I am hoping that he will be captured and justice served… u can run cesar but u cant hide…

I hope that catch this cold blooded murderer.

KT,

Good questions and I have no answers. It seems like the FBI is content to work with the mexican police so I don’t know if we’ve got anyone looking for him independently. I’d say that if his family has money, then yeah, he might be protected. -Rod-

Comment by Karen T

The Marine is a Mexican National, would the chances be greater that he would be protected while hiding out there?

Comment by Karen T

I see the Marine is still not caught. Does anyone know if we have sombody in Mexico looking for him from the US or are we relying on the Mexican authorities to do this for us?

Comment by Rod Venger

Speaking of criminals…

Los Angeles — Authorities snared a once-deported gang member who is one of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 10 Most Wanted fugitives in Los Angeles, according to MyFOXLA.com.

David Rivera, 33, a member of the MS-13 gang, has alleged links to several murders and prior arrests on sexual assault and drug charges as well as a conviction for gun possession.

I haven’t heard about Dog the Bounty Hunter going to Mexico to get him. I don’t have the full story on the outcome of what’s going on with Dog. Is he allowed to Bounty hunt, is it just that he lost his tv show?

Comment by Rod Venger

Susan,

I like what you pasted in from Greta’s. Frankly, I don’t care if the Mexicans ever get him. If they don’t and we do, we can then proceed with the DP on him. Or maybe some Marine vacationing in Mexico comes across him and he’s later found in an alley. You never know. What I don’t want is Mexico telling us what we can or cannot do with our citizens. -Rod-

Subject: Update from Mexico

It seems that no one is really interested in finding Cesar Laurean down
here, and there’s a reason why. I just got off the phone with NC DA
Dewey Hudson and he said that although he has filed all the necessary
paperwork om his end, a judge in Mexico needs to sign off on a warrent
for the arrest of Laurean and this has not happened. The paperwork has
not made its way through the chain of command, so there is no tipline,
no mexican 800 number and local and national law enforecment aren’t
going to look for someone without a warrent. Also I am asked Hudson if
he has any concerns that if La_rean is caught, he could thwart
extradition by claiming to be a Mexican national?? I am waiting on a
response. Also, according to locals, prisons down here are not as bad as
we are led to believe. Some prisoners even have cell phones and visiting
mistresses.

Comment by Rod Venger

Sharon Nelson,

I notice that after taking me to task over Laurean’s citizenship status that you haven’t returned.

I assume your mistake was an honest one. We all make em and yeah, they are embarrassing. So what? C’mon back…there’s nothing to forgive. -Rod-

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A grand jury indicted a Marine on a first-degree murder charge Thursday in the death of a pregnant colleague, but a prosecutor said he wouldn’t seek the death penalty if the man is arrested in Mexico.

Karen T, you are welcome. It will be interesting to see how this is all played out. Especially with the military involved.

Thanks Becky.

I truly think it is a crock that the death penalty comes off the shelf because he ran “home”.
Should make it ever more apparent that he is guilty!
But im also waiting for charges against the wife! She is far from innocent in this deal in my mind.

Comment by Karen T

Thanks Becky. we probably wouldn’t get the marine back if the death penalty was on the table. I just don’t know it works with the military being involved. Puts a different spin onto it. Appreciate the article.

Thanks Patty.

If we can find 2 stowaways in the ceiling of an airplane then we can certainly find 300 tons of cocaine. I can see them wanting a better life coming from Ethiopia. But they can’t come here and live on the streets in fear of being deported once caught. They won’t have money or a place to live, they’ll be desperate and end up doing crimes to survive. We’ll end up taking the brunt of their crimes. They would have been better off going through the process to get here the right way.

I understand that Ethiopia is a 3rd world country, but Venezuela shouldn’t be turning into one with the amount of oil they’re producing.

Comment by John

Patty………It’s been rumored that certain individuals that prefer alternate sexual lifestyles have used the gerbil’s instinctive nature to burrough themselves into any orifice they find, for their own sick sexaul enjoyment. PC talk for, they liked to have the furry little critters crawl up their a$$es.

Patty and Derek………..better watch out with those gerbils. Apparently there’s a certain sector of our society that also “loves” gerbils……..but it’s not because they’re look cute.

Comment by Derek

Patty, I have heard that. One of my old army buddies breeds them and they couldn’t come from a more loving, responsible breeder. He actually only breeds them once in awhile to give away to friends, it is not an income generator by any means. He has 5 kids that dote on them from the time they are little, he only gives them to homes that he knows (i.e. friends) and when my kids have gone to visit, those dogs have been nothing be lovable and fun for them. That is exactly the type of dog we want, just another member of the family that the boys can pal around with, they can take to the park, that will wrestle and play with them. I am with you on bad breeders, I hate animal cruelty, it sickens me

Derek…bull mastiffs do have a bad rap around here. Only because jerks breed them like they do pit bulls. grrrrrrrr Just check out where your little ones will come from, make sure they were treated decent.
Our son has a mastiff……..she’s huge, lovable to no end, lazy as a pig, spoiled as heck and we adore her! (actually she looks/acts alot like our son! *L*) My kind of dog!

derek…you didnt ask me…but ;-) … birds are dirty in the house. IMO. How about a gerbil? more confined for the mess, and as much as i hate anything that resembles a mouse, our kids loved gerbils while they were little.

Comment by Rod Venger

Derek,

I’d say Co*katiels. They’re smarter than a parakeet, larger than the ‘keets but smaller than a parrot (who tend to screech loudly at times) make good talkers and if you get hand-fed babies (there’s a premium price put on that) you find you have the sweetest and often funniest pet possible. Do some internet research on Co*katiels, hand fed babies in particular, and see what you come up with. It’s what I would choose. I’m going back to bed. I only got up to feed the girls ;) -Rod-

Sheesh. I had to censor the post…

Comment by Derek

Rod—my boys are full court pressing for a pet. cats and dogs are out, due to our apartment for the next year. I was thinking fish or maybe a turtle, but that seems boring. What about birds? you seem knowledgeable on the subjecct. Would birds make a good pet for 3 boys? I want my boys to be able to have something to take care of that they can also interact with. Care of the pet is paramount in our decision, so this is going to be a family effort. My boys are young but up until this point have been very responsible. I am sure I will have to help out with alot of the care (they can feed and take care of him mostly, dad will get stuck with the cage cleaning and taking the bird to the vet) What do you recommend? we are in a small apartment (only 1500 sq ft) for the next year, once my wife finds a house, we will move to that however. Would we be best to wait until we move? I am assuming most birds are very social, and so we would probably end up with 2. I want to make the right choice, and I am at a loss when it comes to birds. I can tell you once we find a house with a yard, we are getting 2 bull mastiffs. I am very impressed with that breed, they are gentle with kids, loyal, big enough to ride, tolerant of pulling on their ears, scary to intruders, and would die before they would let anyone hurt their human companions (I have a friend that breeds them, and they are truly amazing with my kids) I would love for them to get a jump on the whole pet thing, and start caring for something now. What are your thoughts?

Amy,

True. Or fungal/bacterial infections from not cleaning the feeders. My 5 feeders empty out at least once per day, up to 3x in the Summer, so fermenting nectar isn’t an issue. Bird-borne infections are possible too with so many individuals drinking from the same 20 holes. I clean them all with bleach and water every few days. They live up to 12 years but have to die sometime. -Rod-

Comment by Karen T

Susan, O’Reilly is covering Venezuela, maybe your email worked :-)

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Rod, that is sad, that they died. Sometimes they can get sick if someone leaves the nectar out in the hot sun for too many days. Then it becomes toxic for them, and can kill them.

Susan, I found your slide show. Great pics. Nice ones of the bloggers. Where was I tho? lol jk

I just loved that black panther. They are my favorite wild animals, next are zebra’s.

Cute bat pic. Some of you bloggers seem to know so much about each other. It seems like you guys talk somewhere else other than here?

Well it is 5am again. Time for me to hit the sack! lol Pass time actually. I think I am gonna skip physical therapy again tomorrow. Still fighting this cold. I don’t want to get all wet in the pool and then out into the freezing rain as it is supposed to do again tomorrow.

Not to mention the freezing rain has left everything coated with ice, and with my bad dislocating knees, its even harder to walk and try to keep my knees from slipping out. But at least I have that stupid walker with wheels to help me out now. But it makes me feel like a granny! lol But I do like the built in seat. hehehe

Oh I read that they know that the marine was or is in Mexico. One of his relatives told authorities that he came by to visit him just days ago.

Hopefully he will still be around for them to nab.

Goodnight everyone!

Amy, got ya. I thought it was odd when I discovered that only western hemisphere has hummers, but I guess it makes sense. It’s too bad though. The rest of the world is missing something special.
BTW, It really IS neat when they come up and check you out, huh? I had one stop 8 or 12″ in front of me, slowly move around the right side of my head, then back to the front and to the left side of my head…checking me out. All the time I could feel the wind from his wings on my face and neck. It was really cool. A few times every Summer I have to rescue Hummers that get up in our carport and can’t get out. I net em and let em loose. They are feather light, weighing about as much as a penny or a dime. I’ve had two die at the feeders last year too. They just appear to go to sleep…Hummers sleep looking up at the sky…and in an hour or so I find them hanging upside down from the perch. Sad. -Rod-

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Rod,

I don’t think that the hummers might be able to come over to europe. I was just saying that, that is one of the things I miss about being over here, is that I don’t get to see those wonderful creatures anymore.

It’s miserable, Susan. The rain is almost blowing sideways and the temp is 38 out back on the deck.
I went through one of those wild temp swings once. In the Springs a hailstorm blew in one Summer and the temp dropped from the mid 80’s down to around 15 degrees in a matter of minutes. The temp swing shattered windows all over town. People caught out shopping or whatever in shorts and tshirts were just miserable for hours. Night! -Rod-

Amy,

Sorry about this, but Hummers are strictly western hemispheric. I’m not sure why as you’d think they’d do ok in Europe, but maybe there’s just no wintering grounds for them, no rain forest or anything. Libya is an unlikely place to find that I guess.

Amy, it’s kinda neat that the farmers would bother to save orphaned ‘coons. There’s no doubt that as adults they are a king-sized pain in the butt. I lived in the sticks in the early 80’s and it was a constant battle. They got into everything and even a 50 pound rock wouldn’t keep them out of a garbage can. Our steel lid was sunk in from the weight! -Rod-

I sure miss those little birds here in Sweden. It is too cold here for the hummingbirds to come. I miss the finches too. I had both of them coming to my feeders when I was in the USA. They are just so beautiful!

I remember one year we were out on the balcony and a hummer came right up to my daughter, right in her face, just fluttering looking at her eye to eye. And then it flew back to the feeder. It was amazing to get to see it so close up.

I agree with Susan that there is something even more disturbing about the dishonor killings of the Said sisters in suburban Dallas. Perhaps it’s knowing that some people in his community will treat the father as a hero for slaughtering his beautiful daughters. Perhaps it’s all the tippy-toeing around the dishonor killing issue by the media.

Momma coons end up getting killed by coyotes and such and the babies get left behind in hollow trees etc. Many farmers around here will run across them try to find homes. You about have to get them before thier eyes are open, so you are the first thing they see, other wise they are pretty spooked and never really calm down.

Comment by Rod Venger

Wierd. Do the raccoon babies just wander in or are the cats finding them and bringing them home? 10-4 on the wholesaler. Wally World is the cheapest source around here. I think it’s about 2.20/pound in the 10 pound bag. -Rod-

Comment by Patty

Rod, yep on the thistle seed!! Need to find a wholesale outlet! *L*
I dont remember how many cats there were last summer. Now we dont see them, they stay in the hay shed and eat down there.
We have a “baby” racoon almost every spring. They drink out of a regular baby bottle, and love marshmellows! Everyone seems to be the same…marshmellows and garden spiders.
They are so much fun!! And in the fall….they go do the natural thing, and we dont see them again.
