Fire in Vegas - going to the scene
UPDATE — 5:02 — On site at the center median at Tropicana Avenue in Las Vegas. Working with our affiliate Fox 5.
3:20 – On the ground in Vegas and blackberry goes crazy when I turn it on. Also, I talk with my very close friend Rian who is an engineer at station 11. Their station is first to respond and he was on the 28th floor where the firefighters staged their operations. After a swift run with my carry on, I am now in a executive car. The taxi line was crazy and the executive driver said he’d only charge me ten bucks more….gotta love that.
3:46 — I’m literally on my way to the Las Vegas fire.My best friend is an engineer for the fire station right down the street. He is on scene fighting the fire now and I’ll see him when I arrive.I know from speaking to him in the past, they have a specific plan that is refined numerous times during the year — they are prepared for this type of thing.
2:36 – Boarding the plane now and have my little hand held video camera charged and ready. I know the route into Vegas since we’ve been there so much in recent months, unless air traffic has been changed, we should get a good view as we come in on final approach.
2:20 — U.S. Air takes off 20 mins late. This makes things tough for making my 4:00pm pacific live.
More info to come

Yes Susan I remember thinking if a 62 lb goat can jump up 10 feet why couldn’t a tiger do a little bit longer? When an animal is pursuit they will do almost anything. And my goats love the car. I sold the minivan a while ago. I now drive a Chevy truck.
But I was so glad I was proved right, I do know a lot about animal behavior. Mainly because my DH and kids and the animals themselves have taught me a lot. Then somebody said I was cracked because farm animals are too domestic. They have never been trapped by a cow or a bull like I have.
Patty–
larger or bigger hard drive? He needs room for the posts—
Kathy–
Adam now knows a bit more about everyone–
I knew your goats jumped– it was an argument about the wall at the zoo- and I was racking my brain as to who mentioned the goat jump–
I still want a goat-
Adam,
This thread got heavy, sorry about that. Never thought it would go so deep. Now you know why I don’t talk about the survivor thing, it gets very sad quick.
Laughter is a great remedy!
Susan I think Adam is a Mac guy.
Also I loved your story about Kathy. Two dear friends passed away far too young, and the memories we have of them is very dear. The last two times I saw them they were laughing, being silly. One family has a scholarship in their child’s name. I know it helped them heal, the kids were so loved. I don’t know what it feels like but I have watched it first hand, and I admire anyone going through it. To this day stuff happens that I think of them and wish they were here. My sons adored them, so it was really tough to lose them.
Susan yes I do have goats that jump on cars. The red one used to jump in my minivan every time he got out and the door was open.
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega joined Chavez in his criticism of U.S.-style capitalism, saying “the dictatorship of global capitalism … has lost control.” Three days earlier, Ortega had shouted “Long live the U.S. government” as he inaugurated an American-financed section of highway in his country.

There’s a new thread, gang. -Rod-

Chavez is at it again–

CARACAS, Venezuela January 26, 2008, 01:21 pm ET · Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez urged his Latin American allies on Saturday to begin withdrawing billions of dollars in international reserves from U.S. banks, warning of a looming U.S. economic crisis.
Chavez made the suggestion as he hosted a summit aimed at boosting Latin American integration and rolling back U.S. influence.
“We should start to bring our reserves here,” Chavez said. “Why does that money have to be in the north? … You can’t put all your eggs in one basket.”
Chavez noted that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited Colombia in recent days, saying “that has to do with this summit.”
“The empire doesn’t accept alternatives,” Chavez told the gathering, attended by the presidents of Bolivia and Nicaragua and Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage.
Chavez warned that U.S. “imperialism is entering into a crisis that can affect all of us” and said Latin America “will save itself alone.”
To help pool resources within the region, Chavez and other leaders were setting up a new development bank at the summit of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Nations of Our America, or ALBA.
The left-leaning regional trade alliance first proposed by Chavez is intended to offer an alternative, socialist path to integration while snubbing U.S.-backed free-trade deals.
On Saturday, Chavez welcomed the Caribbean island of Dominica into ALBA, joining Nicaragua, Bolivia and Cuba. Attending as observers were the prime ministers of Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, along with officials from Ecuador, Honduras, Haiti and St. Kitts and Nevis.
The ALBA Bank is to be started with $1 billion to US$1.5 billion of capital, Venezuelan Finance Minister Rafael Isea said Friday, according to the state-run Bolivarian News Agency.
Max,
$90! That is a lot. But, we have lots of jeans over here that cost that much too.

GEORGETOWN - Gunmen shot and killed 11 people, including five children, early on Saturday in a village in Guyana, a small South American country where gang violence is on the rise.
President Bharrat Jagdeo said the leaders of the massacre in the village of Lusignan, 11 miles east of the capital Georgetown, were linked to gunmen who attacked police headquarters in Georgetown on Friday night.
Max–
90 bucks? that is outrageous— totally– I don’t do designer jeans– I have some but I go back to the classic 501’s– I like jeans to be jeans–

January 26
Watch archival NBC News video
On January 26, 1998 President Bill Clinton addressed the nation on television about his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. With an extended pointer finger, Clinton looked directly into the camera and said “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky,” adding later, ”I never told anybody to lie, not a single time — never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people.” The information about the Lewinsky affair came out in the midst of the Paula Jones sexual harassment case against the President. Clinton would later admit that his statement regarding his relationship with Lewinsky, repeated under oath, had been false and he surrendered his Arkansas law license for five years.

He is a former Marine who rah! But now he’s in the National Guard. Long story.
Tammy: He’s a marine, right?
Tammy… Avi is right. Your hubby is a patriot. Thank him! Bless you and your kids too!
Avi…tests all done then?
Oh right on… i just left you a post in the political thread.. i’ll be back later
Hey there, KT. Nah. We’ve just been chatting -Rod-
Have I missed anything?
Why the sad face if you’re out of school?
Or did you mean you are out if the house at school?
Thanks Avi! That’s means a lot to me and I know to him too.
Tammy, you hit the nail on the head.
I can understand it from her point of view. Fact is, as of Feb 5th 1999, I wasn’t the man she married. There’s no getting around that. I was my own lawyer during the divorce and I hit her with that same issue on the stand: What about the whole better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health part? There was no answer of course but I had to get it out there. These days I don’t think it’s possible to NOT get a divorce. If one wants it, I guess they get it, but I tried my hardest to get the judge to deny her it anyway. The issues with your husband are very real. Scary too, I’ll bet. I hope he’s never injured or killed and hope you’re never faced with the decision. -Rod-
Tammy your husband is a patriot! god bless our troops
haah max…. good research …. Im out school 2marrow
1 week till superbowl party Wohoo
I’m back. Hiya Patty. -Rod-
I’m sorry that your X was so shallow…………and I’m sorry if that sounds harsh.
My husband is in the military and if he’s ever called up to go over to Iraq, Afghanistan or soon Iraq. I have to think about what if he comes back missing limbs or disfigured. What if he comes back with emotional issues? Do I leave him because suddenly he doesn’t “fit” into my perfect little picture? NO!
Here’s my decision: He’s my man, regardless of how he looks. I didn’t marry him because he’s easy on the eye’s (even though he’s extremely good looking) I married him because he’s my soul mate and he’s meant for me. We vowed for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. And that’s - THAT.
Do you all think Terri when to meet Adam in person today???
Avi: Acording to the world fact book and my math skils the total tax in Israel is 43%
g’afternoon alfredo
Tammy…no worries, I read it the way you meant it.

Be back in a few minutes. Gotta feed my girls. -Rod-
Max taxes here in Israel are also super high ! especially on cars
What surgery? What do you mean she lost you?
Tammy: Yep, London England
Tammy, I’m about 10 miles from Adam as the crow flies. I think my X maybe was just overwhelmed. She lost her husband (me) when they did the surgery and then Tim. It doesn’t make it right but it explains it. -Rod-
And you are in England Max?
Tammy: I think he’s in california, when i was looking at his slide show i saw a guest book, and that said he was in California.
Rod - did you ever tell us where you are?
Okay I’ve been gone for awhile. My “thanks for the update Patty” was meant for you telling me about what was happening on the blog…..sheesh made me sound like a real *ss!
Anyway, I’m sorry to hear about your daughter but WOW to be able to remember her through grants for other students………..that is absolutely incredible!! Such a blessing.
Rod I’m sorry about your X I guess when grief hits the mind leaves sometimes. I’m sorry that she blames you for doing the right thing. They say it’s the hardest thing………to loose a child. I suppose its easier to blame you then to accept death was what your son wanted.
And as far as digressing…………..when Adams away the mice will play……
Nah, not messy. Just some chicken and some fries. Then I watched some golf for a little while then showered. The clouds are back and it’s looking like rain again. Enough’s enough! -Rod-
Rod: sounds like it must have been a messy lunch!
What did you have?
I’m back. Lunch led to a shower
-Rod-
We’re lucky, Demark has 60%.
Wow, maybe doing these taxes arent so depressing, guess it could be worse!
Also we have total taxes of about 40%.
So we make less money, give more of it to the government, and everything costs more as well!
yep max. was curious.
Patty: The average wage is slightly bellow the average wage in the US. Is that what you meant?
Max…does the difference in labor pay balance the high cost of living?
Avi: Compared to here everything in the US is super cheap. Gasoline is like 8 times the price.
Almost everything is at least double in price, many things are 4 times the price.
Tuition isn’t too bad here, but the average debt leaving college is $60,000, because the cost of living is so high. Infact in many areas you would pay more for renting a dorm room than the tuition.
Wow Rod, always seemed like such a young life wasted to me. But it wasnt wasted, in a sense. Their love never leaves. And their spirit is always close by, tapping us on the shoulder.
He was 24 when he died in 2002, Patty. I’ll be back
I’m going to grab some lunch. I’ll be back! -Rod-
Rod…can i ask, how old was Tim?
Thanks K2
Wow Adam…I hope you aren’t upset that we really did digress. Must be one of those days that we all needed to vent, be heard, or just listen. Thanks for giving us space at “your” house to have the opportunity to share.
You’ve always been a gracious “host”!
I think i can say for most everyone, that we appreciate it, and you.
It’s life and death, Karen. Tim was a long time dying, 3 liver transplants, dialysis for his last 2 years, 2 previous comas. Tim was gone long before his death. Families contend with this all the time unfortunately. -Rod-
Thanks for the update Patty.
Tammy, Patty and Rod,
My heart goes out to all of you.
K2
Yeah, Tammy. The Death Warrant bit. I suspect my X believes I killed Tim, even though there was no other option.
He’d been in the hospital for about a month and wanted to go home for Easter. In fact he signed himself out AMA. A day later his grandmother found him unconscious. Long story short, his ammonia levels were through the roof when he was found, he had Leucoencephalitis, was brain dead 2 weeks later and I signed the paperwork to remove him from life support. My wife clearly didn’t want it but it’s what HE wanted. I got the blame though. It was never stated in court obviously, but I assume that played a large part in the reason she left. Coward. Ah well. -Rod-
tammy.. my brother was an alcoholic also, he took his own life.
((hugs)) tammy.
Life is strange, and cruel. Our daughter was 18, in her prime, the most caring, gifted teen I’d ever known. Had wanted to teach since the first grade. She never waivered from that idea. Kids were her life! A few weeks before the accident - her, me and her father all spent the day enrolling her in college. It was a great day! One we will cherish forever. She was so excited to finally start her own “dream” life. Because of the wonderful small town we live in and the communities surrounding, we are able to have a scholarship in her memory. Available to any high school graduate that is going into education. They get 1/2 as a freshman and 1/2 as a junior, providing they haven’t changed their degrees. Its our way of allowing Kathy to teach! She continues to touch lives, like she did while she was present.
Now this is a topic I can relate to.
My mother became ill in 2001. Since she lived in a little town they misdiagnosed her for most of the year. She was in extreme.
In November of 2001 she was moved to my city and was diagnosed correctly……..cancer. It was in her bones and since it was so far gone and she was 71 they said they couldn’t do anything else for her but contend with the pain. My mom and I weren’t close at all but that time with her every day was wonderful. My mom gave her life to the Lord just 2 months before she died - I will see her again.
My sister who was 33 years old at the time was also very ill. So her and my dad lived with me and my two kids (I was a single mom at the time). Unfortunately my sister had destroyed her liver through alcoholism and she was also a drug addict. 2 weeks before my sister died she also gave her life to the Lord. About 1 week before she passed away I had to sign paperwork demanding “No Heroic Efforts.” I signed her death warrant…… Outside of leading her to the Lord, I think it was the most loving thing I had ever done for her.
I miss them………….but I will see them again.
mAx,
nothing is cheap in america soo thats not somthing you should decide upon and besides you got the pound its super strong agianst the dollar soo you got like a 1 to 3 advantage
Rod, my mother couldnt have dealt with it
Its hard not to be angry at them, but i think i “feel” for them more, they are the ones that missed out.
Tammy…
digression 101 at its best!
Max is in England, going to go to college in USA, we are finding him a school. well sort of!
Kathy & Rod are cancer survivors.

And blessed
I can’t list all the losses of family and friends, for such few people here, there are so many
Susan has gone to a bbq
Jen is doing saturday “stuff”
Thats sums it up, i think.
Interesting, Patty. A year before Tim died he gave power of atty to me instead of his mom. I think he knew she’d be too emotional and just drag things out at the end. Looking back at things, he was right, and she probably took it out on me later. -Rod-
Reading…………but not understanding what is happening here. Will be back…&
