Are you ready for Some….?

With all the travel this past week, I am trying to catch up with the comments, but you guys are on fire! I am traveling again today, so I’ll be able to post more comments tonight. So, the big question is….are you ready for some football? For the next week I will be reporting from Phoenix and will post all the behind the scenes stuff I can get my hands on. AND…don’t worry, I will finally post the Guyana behind the scenes video and stay on top of good ol’ Hugo, among the other stories we’ve all been following. Anything you want to see from Phoenix, let me know!

Amy: Yes, my weight is more stable now.

Rod: I’m all caffine free, no coffee or tea either.

Adam,
It has been a long time since I looked up the old Dallas Cowboy lineman I knew. He and his wife lived in the same apt building as I did when I was about to leave Dallas when I got married. Matter of fact kinda didn’t know where he was.

Okay bare with me, I had a healthy brownie tonight so I am hyper. Anyway the lineman I was speaking of was Kevin Gogan. Apparently he grew up in CA.

He has a blog now.

http://blog.nbx.com/2x_super_bowl_champ_kevin_gogan/index.html

Kevin is dog crazy, so him covering Vick is really interesting.

Larry played with Dat! Dat is like the man! Okay not the man but I really loved to watch him play. His parents own a vietnamese restaurant in Rockport, TX. Dat was amazing to watch in college too.

HS Baseball season starts here soon. We plan on going to every game we can, my son is friends with everyone on the team.

Adam,
My sons had to give up soda with athletics, is that when you quit? I quit soda about 3 months ago, I was down to one a day for years. That last soda was like a last cigarette(if I did smoke). I have yet to see the pounds vanish but I can hope.

My brother and I talk about chocolate and food most of the time. I think that is what he misses most about home is the food.

Comment by Rod Venger

Max,

I drink 4-5 Pepsi’s daily! I’m just a caffeine junkie! -Rod-

Comment by Rod Venger

Amy,

You like chili con queso? How cool is that? I love the stuff, make my own a few times per year and just clog my insides with it for about a week  -Rod-

I meant to say- the only soda we have here in the house– sorry about that– If I had regular pop and Ken drank one without me knowing it- like me leaving to walk my dog, he could seriously do some damage to his body–

Amy–

Mexican food is my favorite– I make it home a lot too– as it is quite healthy– and great for diabetics- as long as I keep the carbs down– but I make fresh salsa all the time– I don’t eat too much bread as I use more tortillas–

My son lives in Virginia and he complains about not having any good mexican food restaurants– doesn’t make sense to me why someone doesn’t open one up– it would be a good cash investment as everyone seems to like mexican food or a large percentage of people do–

The only soda we have here is Hansen’s diet pop– so much of each can goes for breast cancer–

I am addicted to Belgium chocolate- especially truffles! :D

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Adam that IS interesting and surprising that they don’t have good mexican restaurants in NYC either. But at least they have Taco Bell! lol Well I think they do at least. I would even settle for some Taco Bell. lol

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Max same here, I drank at LEAST on liter a day. But now I might get a 20 oz bottle or 12 oz can every couple of weeks or so.

I too feel better and its also when I started to drop the weight.

The name of the store here is called The English Shop.

Comment by Patty

Darvette….dont listen to “him”….we want ALL the pics! he he

Comment by Max

Adam: I used to drink One liter soda every day! Now i have maybe 1 liter every few months. I feel a lot better, not so many empty callories.

Comment by Max

Amy: Weird, I’ve never seen it here. There was one store selling it imported from America, but they were sold out. Maybe they buy it from them? What’s the store called?

Comment by Kathy in Texas

Hmmm I really don’t know what soda they have in Europe, I haven’t spoken with my brother about it. Only Beer, meat, football food and chocolate.

I did a lot of work with LBW, it was tedious!

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Max that is odd, because the lady in the store told me that it is very popular in the UK.

Comment by Max

Amy: They can’t be importing it from Britain, as MT Dew isn’t sold here. But it is sold in eastern Europe.

Comment by Amy in Sweden

I just looked and they just offer Win XP Pro. So I could get that one instead. The one thing I will have to check into is if I can buy an upgrade and upgrade a english version from a swedish version. hmmm

I remember LBW as well. But I didn’t do alot with computers then. I didn’t get into computers until I managed a store and we had Win95. It was horrid. lol

Comment by Patty

Kathy…i remember LBW (life before windows) also.
Scary!

Comment by Kathy in Texas

The only Vista I have access to is my mom’s. Which we bought for her brand new, so there is no old version for it go to.

Our family laptop is XP as well as our main desktop. A long time ago you could buy OEMs for Windows 98 I know. I would think with XP there has to be source out there some where.

I started on computers before Windows, I know I am old. So I have done all the upgrades. No program in the world has given me as much fits as Vista. It has things about it that is hard to even figure out how to fix. There is a overwriting thing that Vista doesn’t let you change a lot of things about without a lot of help. And it seems like the bugs are getting worse instead of better on Vista.

Comment by Amy in Sweden

KT, no we don’t have Velvetta here in Sweden…sniff! We have REAL cheese here. lol I think I am glad that we don’t have that processed stuff here. Because I love it and it is not the healthiest, so I am not as tempted if we don’t have it. Same with Mountain Dew. I was a Mt Dew addict when I was in the USA. But we do not have it here. double SNIFF! But it’s not good for me. And now I am starting to lose weight so I am glad that we do not have it here, in a way.

Altho, sometimes we can find it here at a English (british) store that we have here. They import it in from Britain, but it is very expensive. They just sell it by the can.

Comment by Karen2 (aka K2)

Amy,

check out ebay. windows xp should be available there if not thru the company you are buying everything.

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Patty, you are right. Most of the time it is user error. That is why I put most of my helping towards educating ppl about all the nasties out there, and how to protect their computers. I cannot count the number of times, after I have asked someone if they have protection and if they have been updating their protection and they say “Yes! My computer came with Norton when I bought it 5 years ago, so I am protected, but what is an update?”

You are also right about having two AV’s on their computer running at the same time. I agree there are many free ones out there that are just fine. The main difference between the free one and the paid one is automatic updates and a scheduler for scans. But it only takes a few mins to manually do it yourself. Altho, AVG has the auto updates and scheduler on the free version anyway. Which is the main one that I recommend.

I also set up a Security Software Updates to be regularly posted at one of the forums that I am a Super Mod at. Then recommend ppl to have email notification, so whenever one of our Security Update Experts posts about an update, the person will get the email so they will be alerted of a new updated definition for their particular security software.

Kathy, so are you or have you put XP back on all of your computers? I figured that Vista would have a bunch of bugs as the newest OS normally do. Normally I would not even buy a new version of an OS until it is at least 2 years old. But its time for us to get a new computer now, so I need to make the correct decision as to what I am going to do. The other thing is, I don’t believe that XP was an option to purchase, I will have to check it out again.

I think so many will be rewritten, course I am still waiting for the blame game to hit Kennedy instead of LBJ. From some of the research I have done so many of the choices were already made that LBJ couldn’t get out. Reagan is far more loved now than when he was in office. And some of those first presidents were really out there, we did research on one that they suspected was gay. He threw the best parties in history!

Those School Admin sound just like our school, a bunch of low IQ people! My kids have done all sorts of pranks, they just tend to let me know last instead of first!

At a high school in Montana a group of high schoolers played a prank on

them go they painted numbers on the sides of the goats. 1,2,4.

Local school administrators spent most of the day looking for #3.

K2,
Perry is in for few very long years, God Help Texas. Mauro is the one that ran against Bush during his reelection. Many thought in DC he would beat Bush. Mauro does Democratic Strategy stuff for Fox from time to time normally during Jon Scott. He is basically an idiot, he went door to door in hand picked Democratic heavy counties. He came to my door and got a mouthful. I will admit that day was fun, I had a third child unplanned and abortion came up.

NYT wanted Mauro to win, but there was no way. What Bush brought to TX that he has not been able to bring to DC is a unity. Which is why I think he dislikes DC so much. He is completely off on immigration and a few other things. But overall that is one of things I see Romney saying is he can fix DC, it is a hard place to change. GWB would be the first to tell him that.

Adam–

and don’t worry– I am not going to freak out– you are just as human as I am– just more accomplished and this is why I like you– if you were doing movies Tom Cruise style I wouldn’t even give it a second thought to go seek you out–

Now Tom Hanks or Anthony Hopkins– whole different story–

You remind me of my daughter Danielle and you are my son’s age–

Do you want Mexican food?

Jen–

I found this for you– you mentioned Vick yesterday– so I thought I would post this- before I head out the door– (I am not into pit bulls but I sure don’t want to see one tortured)

And you and Kathy have chihuahuas- Well, Kathy has one- she rescued-

An underdog’s second chance
Saved from Michael Vick’s property, pit bulls now in loving homes

Eric Risberg / AP
At her home in the San Francisco Bay Area, Leslie Nuccio holds Hector, a pit bull that was seized from Michael Vick’s property.
View related photos
His back resting comfortably against her chest, Hector nestles his massive canine head into Leslie Nuccio’s shoulder, high-fiving pit bull paws against human hands.

The big dog — 52 pounds — is social, people-focused, happy now, it seems, wearing a rhinestone collar in his new home in sunny California.

But as Hector sits up, deep scars stand out on his chest, and his eyes are imploring.

“I wish he could let us know what happened to him,” says Nuccio, the big tan dog’s foster mother.

Hector ought to be dead, she knows — killed in one of his staged fights, or executed for not being “game” enough, not winning, or euthanized by those who see pit bulls seized in busts as “kennel trash,” unsuited to any kind of normal life.

USA Today, however, says that Bush is 5 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches tall and Bush’s much-discussed National Guard records list him as 5 feet 11 inches tall while in his mid-20s.

Tammy,
I like the story about fritos. GWB is a health nut overall, but they did not have fritos in the Blair House. So when he stayed there before his first inaugeration he asked, “why not fritos?” They said, “We don’t have fritos.” GWB replied, “Well you have to have fritos.”

The times I have seen him is a very regular guy, and Laura is practically perfect in every way!

He was a offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, the program had him at 305. I knew him there was no way he only weighed 305.

Max, I am telling you he never was 6ft. I am 5′6″ my DH is 6 ft as well as my son GWB has always been shorter. It is a PR thing, he wants to be 6 ft. Maybe, maybe when he played at Yale.

Comment by Tammy

Hey Jen, Max and whoever else is talking about GWB,

Back when GWB was campaigning for his Daddy they came through SD. My mom owned a little diner in my hometown and did tons of catering. They asked her to cater GWB’s stomp.

When he got back to TX he wrote my mom a personal letter thanking her for her catering and for the beautiful display she had done for him!

He’s a really nice guy. I’m not real impressed with his immigration issues but as far as being a human being I think he’s pretty real and down to earth.

Amy,
Vista H*ll I have been there. My mom’s laptop had three programs inexplictly quit working at the same time. Her email will not work with Vista windows mail, you don’t any other email program. I use yahoo and gmail. But our local DSL(fastest you can get here) suddenly was not compatible with the windows mail.

I switched her to gmail. but it is the principal. She can’t get the easy way to email. At 80 she does need easy and Vista is anything but easy.

I can not tell you how many times she thinks she has broken her computer and it is Vista being weird.

Amy she remembered my goat jumping on a car too, memory like a steel trap Susan!

Jen I have one of my son with the real GWB. He came to our town and spoke when he was running for Governor. He signed my son’s Ranger hat. I must say that the SS were very nice to me. Every Dem shoved their way in front of me, and the SS felt sorry for me and my son. If I had used my connections I could have been very close but I really didn’t feel like I should.

In RL I find GWB kinda short, but I come from a tall family so I don’t know. I would guess 5′10″or so.

I don’t use norton or mcafee either. There are free ones on line that do a bang up job! The biggest mistake people make is trying to run two…that’s guaranteed failure!
Security wise, most of the breaches come from the user mistakes. At least the flaws I have seen. Common sense goes along way, but many mistakes are just because people dont know.
Anything that is preloaded is easy to uninstall. Its the first thing i do when i sit down to a new puter.
(We have 3 desktops at work and 4 laptops between 2 of us…geeze!)

Comment by Amy in Sweden

Sorry I was taking a nap. lol Now about the computer questions.

As for Dell or HP. I HATE packages like that. They load your computer full of crap that you don’t need, sometimes not giving you the original windows disk but rather a rescue disk that has all that junk to put on your computer again.

I am very particular about my security system. I hate Norton and McAfee, which is what they usually put on ppl’s computers. When I have gone to ppl’s homes to help them clean their computers for infections or helped them online, the first thing I would take out was Norton. lol You would not believe how many people over the years that we have helped at the security forums where I help out at, who have those products. Not to mention they are a resource hog.

IF I had to get a package deal it would be Dell. We did check out Dell when we started in our search. But when matching the same specs or as close as we could, it was cheaper to get it thru Komplett.se.

They also build computers as well, but the packages available and the specs available to change were too limited and didn’t give me what we wanted. So I had to go the “build it yourself” route.

The other thing about getting the packages is that they make it hard for you to upgrade.

About Vista…I am glad that you mentioned the problems with Vista. I have been trying to search for what ppl have been thinking about Vista who have used it so far. The only good conversation I could find about it, titled their thread “Vista Hell” So that gives you an idea of what they thought of it.

I have XP, which I like fine, but I have it in Swedish and I don’t know the language yet. So its hard for me to get around with that OS. So we were going to order the English version. So we figured if we were going to do that, we might as well get the newest one, since we already have a usable XP version. But I am still thinking about that one.

About the floppy disk, I have also been thinking about that. Its just that I have disks that I have important documents on. But not alot. So maybe I will reconsider and get the second CD-DVD rom instead. I was going to get the second one, but took it out, as we never use our second one now. But that’s not to say in the future that we might want to copy a cd.

Well, I think I covered all of the questions. ;)
Thanks for all of your thoughts and advice. I appreciate it.
