I served for four years in the United States Marine Corps. It saddens me to see the fighting here in America over this office. If it weren’t for these men and women in the Armed Forces we would not have free speech. Our freedom was given by those that gave their lives. These that protest this recruiting station needs to have their rights taken away and them they may wake up from this drug induced sleep.(not by legal means). Those that stand there chained to the door are maybe those that have no job and have nothing better to do except to stir up a news media for some air time. My fear of this mess in Bizerkeley, is that lots of noise will be made for a few weeks, or maybe even a couple of months, and nothing will done to either the Berkeley City Council, or The City of Berkeley. Congress men and women will puff out their chests, make pretty speaches, yet, it will all blow-over and be forgotten. Do we never learn from history? Multiculturism sounds pretty good until you realize that it is a little too premature to foster this ideology on the world, especially here in the Uited States. There is a culture out there committed to the destruction of anyone who does not believe in their culture.
Before WWII pacifists took the position of accomodation instead of defending their countries. I don’t think we have to remind people, well maybe the generation of the sixties, that this led to their being taken over by the Nazies who had grand plans for expanding their ideals and discriminatory beliefs. Without the marines, army and navy, airforce of our great country and England and other allies we would all have been either annihilated or subjegated to the nazie party. We would all probably be speaking german. The many servicemen who gave their lives and limbs to protect this great land deserve better than the treatment of the likes of code pink and the most intolerable treatment from the Berkeley City Council. I wonder if their was a natural diaster or an attack by those who wish to do us harm if Berkley citizens would reject the military.

The period before WWII should be a lesson to the people of this world today. There is a culture out there that is committed to destroy free thinking people who do not accept their culture or religious fanatisism. They will not be deterred by some people who are willing to capitulate the freedoms that we enjoy in this country. If they think for one minute that the enemies of our society would not attack if much of the country felt like the people in berkley then they are sadly mistaken.

Any human being that I know including myself abhors the thought of war. But we had better be grateful that we have people willing to make the supreme sacrifice to protect us and should at the very least show them some respect. Having lived through WWII having lost a relative and a husband wounded I can assure the thought of war is not at all a happy thought. But we had better realize we have not become a civilized enough world to take the misguided path to our own devestation and prehaps destruction. This country that has given these people the freedom to speak and act do not have the right to impune the integrety of the people who may some day be their bunker of safety against cruel and inhuman acts from radical people.

I am not all that surprised that this kind of action is coming from the Peoples Republic of California. That is the hotbed of anti-American, anti military sentiment and this is just another shining example. They shouldn’t get one dime of any money till they OPENLY and NATIONALLY apologize. Each council member should apologize and should be made to travel to Iraq and see what some of the finest men and women our country has to offer are accomplishing despite their best effort to undermine them and their effort.
You can bet that no one on the city council has served anything except their own interest.

This is a copy of a letter I wrote to the mayor of Berkeley. I sent a copy to the City Council Members and told them I intended to send it along to you and other news/talk radio stations. Hope you are as outraged as I am by this.

Mayor Bates,

I am appalled at the recent assault on our military and specifically the US Marines. It is shameful that you would condone such behavior. By changing the terminology to say “We are not against the military, we are against war” is in itself a conflict of statement. If you claim to support our military, your actions betray you. A common declaration Berkeley avows is tolerance, yet, you’re attempting to deny our Marines to do their job. The job that secures your rights to freedom you don’t feel the military is entitled. If ever there was a double standard, Berkeley defines it so graphically.

Your city council members are under the misguided assumption that pro-American, pro-military people are stupid. The job of our military is to secure our safety and sometimes that means war. To have the freedoms we enjoy are worth fighting for and we have only the military to thank for that freedom. So, please save your politically correct psyco-babble for the liberal dolts.

I may not own a cooperation, or think I might make a huge financial impact solely by boycotting anything produced, sold or provided to or by your city, but I know a lot of people who do. I will make it my mission to tell, email and call everyone I know and ask for their joint efforts to support a boycott on Berkeley.

Remember, when you mess with the Marines, you mess with their moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends and the list goes on…I hope you get the picture. We are a family and I consider all Marines and their families mine as well.

FYI. It is our Marines who are first in and last out of a conflict. Instead of supporting those that lack character by attacking them you might consider thanking them for their service and your freedom to make the choice.

No surprise here. I was assigned to the staff of Commander, Pacific Area in Alameda, CA 1984-88. I took German language classes at UC Berkeley. I drove to classes in a car with a USCG Academy decal on it. After the car was egged and scratched, it became apparent I couldn’t drive it to the campus. Our German instructor was always soliciting her students to sign petitions for Nuclear-Free Bay Area. I always refused, citing defense of our country. Fortunately, I was never punished grade-wise. But it made for some interesting class discussions having litle relation to German

I feel as though the city council of Berkely is greatly overstepping the bounds of propriety and patriotism. The military is serving us, preserving our way of life, many at the cost of their lives, and others at the cost of losing an arm, leg, or their mental and emotional health. They need to be applauded, and praised for what they have already accomplished in this war, and encouraged to complete the work begun.

How about we bounce Berkeley…right out of the United States!?

It is sad to me to see this Berkeley situation so mixed up and confused when it is so simple: God allowed America to become GREAT and the military KEEPS her that way! Keep the Marines, Berkeley! Keep the Marines!

Go to the Move America Forward web site. There was a huge demonstration in Berkley this week by that group (opposing the Code Pink idiots) and the city council has backed down.

Since when have all you republicans become such federalists? The federal government has a right to be there, why? What about states’ rights? California alone pays 14% of all federal taxes. So maybe we should simply refuse to pay those federal taxes. This may effectively starve the military and the rest of the country to death. Then you will see senators like DeMint, from South Carolina (the first state to secede from the Union, remember), crying when they do not have enough federal funds for their pet-projects. It disgusts me that South Carolina gets a $1.35 return on every $1 they spend in federal taxes, while California gets only $0.80 for its same dollar (fiscal year 2005). And yet DeMint has the audacity to argue, as many of you here have, that California does not deserve some $2 million. Ridiculous. We are the biggest player in the market. We set the tone, especially in our own state, not you.

I can’t even express in words what I feel for what the liberals are doing in Berkeley CA and in other places in this country. How unbelievable that this would even happen to our Military–the ones who gave their lives throughout history for the American people. As a mother of a soldier who is currently doing his 3rd tour in Iraq and of a daughter in the USAF Academy I am appalled and extremely upset. My father-in-law was a prisoner of war in WWII and my dad served during the Korean War so you could say that this strikes at my heart. I’m starting to feel that the American people no longer deserve the sacrifices that my son gives to his country. Why should he put his life on hold and in danger to protect people of this caliber? I am very alarmed and disgusted, I sent the following email to Mayor Bates:

Dear Sir,

I hold this country and the people who serve it close to my heart. It alarms and offends me that a town can stop the recruitment activity in their area for our countries armed forces. I hope that I am not mistaken in stating that a good deal of the countries around the world require at least their young men to serve two years in the military to learn to protect the country that they live in. Our country has in times of peace a voluntary system that depends on select locations to recruit the people that we need to serve and protect. The military has many opportunities for young men and women that may not be available to them otherwise. Individuals are informed of all of the pros and cons of military service when they meet with a recruiter and are not forced to sign on the dotted line. Given your communities stand on the war in Iraq and military recruiting, should the community of Berkley be left to fend for themselves if a terrorist attack occurred in your area? Fortunately the military doesn’t pick and choose when it comes time to protect those in need, including the people of Afghanistan and Iraq. Please don’t insult the intelligence and integrity of the people that choose to serve our country by asking them to go outside of your community to enlist in a military that protects you regardless of your personal feelings. Remember, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. If our country continues down this path surely we will fall!

The taxpayers of Berkeley have the right to decide whether or not the military is welcome in their town and the federal government has the responsibility to act accordingly, in this case, to close the recruiting center, however, the federal government also has the right to deny federal funding to the town of Berkeley in response. Whether or not we agree with the reasoning behind Berkeley’s decision is irrelevant and I believe that we can, or should, all agree that it would be unacceptable and unconstitutional for the federal government to impose the military on a State or town in which the majority view it as unwanted/unwelcome and that it would also be unreasonable for those taxpayers to expect the federal government to continue providing monetary assistance in such cases.

Regardless what your views of the war in Iraq, what the Berkeley City Council should not go unpunished. I urge full support of Senator Jim DeMint’s legistlation “Semper Fi Act of 2008″ from everyone who supports our brave men and women in the US Armed Forces. Any retraction from Berkeley should be ignored. Give all federal and state money that would have gone to the City of Berkeley to the US Marine Corp.. They (Berkeley) have every right to voice their opinions and I have every right to express mine. I will be contacting my US Senators to gain their support of this bill.

This place has and always will be anti-American, they will never do anything for this Great Nation, but we know where they are and can keep an eye on the traitors. Any citizen is permitted to speak openly against the government, that is one of our rights as American Citizens. However, when a governing body (such as the Berkeley City Council) does so, that is different. There can and should be consequences. I like DeMintt’s ideas.
I am personally repulsed by the protest against the Marines, but honor the right to protest. Actually, the best thing that could happen is that the media would completely ignore the protesters. Now that would hurt.

What can we do. Wakeup, research, learn, speak out, vote responsibly, put the interest of the nation ahead of selfish wants, participate in local and national politics, and stop worshipping material things and fools. A free people must stay involved and keep the political machine in check.

If Berkley were a part of the body I would go to the doctor to have it surgically removed.

My father fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He is now gone, but if he were here today he would be very sad to hear what is going on in Berkley. I am a marine and very appall that these people choose to behave in this manner. My late son also a Marine would definitely be. We are Native Americans who proudly served and were willing to take that step to protect our freedom even if it cost our lives. We knew and know that very few would even think of taking this dedication. I can only pray to God for protection from these idiots. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind a fire team of Marines to clean house on them.

How arrogant of the Mayor and counsel of Berkley to think that thay have the RIGHT to displace Federal recruiters! These recruiters are the ones insuring that our nation will be safe, and that Berkley’s rights will be protected!

How long would Berkley have remained in existence during WWII without the MILITARY to protect California from the invasion of Japanese?

Personally I think the mayor should be prosecuted for interfering with Federal Officials in the performance of their duties, and that the city should be stripped of all federal aid and support of any kind until these outrageous proclaimations are rescinded !!!

I can’t even begin to tell you how all this has grieved me. Code Pink lies too. They say they love the troops?. Ask them to explain how they are seen on You Tube in the video “Code Pink listen up” with banners exclaiming hideous chants like “WE SUPPORT THE MURDER OF THE AMERICAN TROOPS” and “WARNING TROOP HATING ANTI-PATRIOT COMMIE TRAITORS THEY ARE ON THE MARCH” and ” Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither” I do not understand why treacherous deeds as this are tolerated during a time of war. Whether you agree with the war or not. These people should be arrested. And if it is known and there is PROOF that they have contributed money to the very people who have terrorized us then why aren’t they in jail? Are we not at war? Is this not an act of treason? Ship them off to live with the Islamic Fascists that they seem to be so enamored with.

I strongly suggest that the DOD create a NO-PROTECT list that begins with Berkley and San Francisco so that the next time the U.S. is attacked (and we most certainly will be) cities such as Berkley are NOT PROTECTED by our military forces. Let them fend for themslves until such time that those people are dead and , only then, will our military go in and take back the territory and re-establish those cities as truly American cities.

To any who have not caught the latest news…. People who were out to show support for the Marine recruiting office in Berkley were physically assaulted by people stating themselves to be members of ‘code pink’ while the Berkley police stood by…doing nothing. It has been reported that the Berkley riot squad has now been called out. I guess ‘code pinks’ version of a peace demonstration is different than anything I’ve heard of up to now.

I suppose as a Mayor you need to distance yourself politically from the City Council, but you as leader of the community need to do the right thing. As a Retired Army Captain, you should understand what leadership can mean. It’s time to lead the community and council in the right direction. While the war in Iraq may be unpopular with some what needs to be understood is; OUR military are killing the ENEMY over there so we don’t have them on OUR streets (re: Berkeley, Chicago, LA) killing our loved ones.
I capitalize the “OUR” simply because, as an American you have ownership and responsibility for not only your well being but your neighbors as well.
If I see someone stealing my neighbors things and killing his family I will do whatever it takes to protect him and his family. This is the responsibility comes with citizenship in the greatest nation on earth. You either protect yourself and your family or complain that someone who is tasked with your protection is killing the enemy too harshly.
I suppose since you were an Army Captain, you were alive during the Vietnam era. The damage caused to our military men and women by people opposed to the war was and is immense. Then as now they see it as an affront to themselves personally. And it effects battlefield performance as well as personal well being. You should know that you can’t separate the military from the man/woman or the national objectives from the military mission.

As a veteran (not a Marine), I am appalled at the conduct of the berkeley city council. Aren’t they such big fish in a small pond?

I am absolutely livid at the actions of the Berkeley City Counsel. I have watched the events unfold over the last 10 days. If the “Blind, Deaf, & Dumb” would only do a miniscule amount of research, and find the humanitarian side of our Marines, and all of our Military as a whole, they would have to conclude that their rebellion type efforts are unfounded.
However, it appears to be easier to “attempt” to tear down an institution
of Pride, Honor, Courage, and Commitment – not to mention force protection, that is and has been unparalleled in the history of the world. Self serving politicians rarely will admit THE TRUTH. Most do not possess such a thing called integrity – or guts for that matter!
I speak from experience as my first born and only son, was a proud Corporal in The United States Marine Corps. He was tragically Killed in Combat Action in Fallujah, Iraq, defending the very rights of the sign carrying Code Pinkers.
In addition to fighting the elements of evil that inhabit our planet, American Marines are at the forefront of helping our fellow man through humanitarian assistance efforts and what some like to call ‘armed social work.’ The world has its share of bad people… and they know who we are as well. There are some radical people out there, as we know, who would unflinchingly at gunpoint convert Berkeley and its surrounding area into part of the greater Caliphate. Last time I checked, Sharia Law didn’t have many provisions for Code Pink sponsored events.
Protesting our courageous young men and women is not very smart. Do these protestors think for one second that they in the S.F. Bay Area, DO NOT have a huge target of terrorism on them? If/when a 9/11 type of attack were to happen, who is going to defend them? The ignorant people running around in stupid pink hats? GOOD LUCK! The idealistic jihadist’s would just as soon cut the Pinker’s heads off with a dull steak knife as any law abiding U.S. citizen. I want my two young daughters to grow up in a peaceful, terror free environment. Ideology cannot compete with freedom and liberty.

Thank God for our military. Hey you guys I love you and appreciate “All you do!” My husband was in the Army for 2 years in 1962 & 63 in Germany, sleeping in tents in the snow, getting up very early every morning and going on manuevers every other week and much more. But this is just a drop in the bucket as to how these men and women train and give of themselves in order to be able to be prepared to defend our great country.

In fact, if you’re not careful and thank God each day for what you’ve got He may just go ahead, without warning, and send you on out into the ocean like it it predicted anyway.

What right does the city council have to make this determination? People just because their is a marine recruiting center located within the city limits does not make the City of Berkeley a bunch of war-mongers! In light of the city of Berkeley’s feelings then perhaps if their is a need for military intervention in the USA or California specifically, then Berkeley should not be included? I wonder how the city council would feel then if some terrorist group decided to strike that city specifically? Do you think they would then want the military force to be present in their city? I would say yes! Has the USA become so politically minded that the city council gets to decide if their is a military recruiting station in their fair city? I wonder if the police force would be next, then fire and ambulance! As I see it some of the members of the police and fire and ambulance could have served in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere, would that mean they also would be barred from being part of the protective force of the city? As I see it, it all boils down to the military. No matter how small the presence of the military the city council feels that the military is and has been giving them a bad name!

I was in the Mekong Delta when Hanoi Jane was holding hands with the enemy in North Viet Nam. She is a traitor and disrespected everyone fighting for the US. The actions of the Berkeley City Council only show that there are still Hanoi Janes in America. The good news is that when Traitor Jane was at her worst I knew, even when I was covered in Mekong Delta mud, that she was one of a very small noisy minority who did not speak for the millions of real Americans who supported our effort. She and the Berkeley City Council completely miss the point, freedom is not free.

The Berkeley City Council depends once again on the blood of better men and women than they, to protect their right to be imbeciles. There needs to be consequences for the City Councils outrageous actions. I pray they are held accountable. I deplore the action of the Mayor of Berkeley and the City Council regarding the Marine recruiting post, but am hardly surprised. The far left has ruled that city for years electing to the Congress such as Ron Delams and supporting the so-called Free Speach movement in its deplorable history. As someone who spent five years at the university earning B.S. and M.A. degrees, I was always proud of my achievements but embarrassed by the politics of the city and much of the university. I agree with the thought that not one dime of my tax payments should go to Berkeley and have long since stopped giving money to the university save for the business school which remains resonably sane

These people are the lowest of scum and bottom-feeders. As soon as there is the next earthquake or bushfire they will be crying for help. Help in the form of National Guard and of course the US Marine will mobilize. And they will be there to help the very scum that spat in their brave faces, today and in the ’60s. Does the reader remember where he or she was on 9/11/01? I do. I was standing on the cargo ramp at JFK airport, watching the two towers burn like two lit cigarettes up on end. As an out-of-towner, I observed a once-in-a-lifetime thing: the reaction of the locals. I saw their faces and I heard their conversations. Everyone that had a cell phone was using it. Then I saw a police officer drop her cell phone in disbelief. Running over to her I asked her what was wrong, to which she replied, “They hit the Pentagon.” JFK airport was relatively quiet, all aircraft were on the ground and the only sounds were of the auxiliary power units running on the various aircraft that had them. Then it happened: the towers fell. The reaction of the locals was as if someone cut down the neighborhood hide-and-go-seek home base tree.

I turned to my friend and said, “we have to get off of this ramp.” My thoughts were that our enemy was waiting until the whole world was tuned in and watching the whole event unfurl and then Manhattan was going to be vaporized, right on national and global television. I remember my trip “EASTWARD” on the L.I.E. to my sister’s house, who lived on the north shore at the time. I remember the westbound lanes looked like a parking lot for miles and miles. I remember people getting out of their cars in the Holland tunnel and the GW bridge and leaving them, fleeing in FEAR! I remember calling home the next day and finding out that one of my SONS STOOD IN LINE AT OUR TOWN’S MARINE CORPS RECRUITING STATION FOR HOURS WITH OTHER YOUNG LADS WHO WERE AS ANGRY AS HE WAS FOR WHAT SOMEONE DID TO A CITY IN OUR COUNTRY!!!!! I am confident when I say that there was no “code pink” in our little Ohio town, exercising their “free speech rights” in front of our Marine Recruiter’s station that day.

I also remember a government that stood shoulder-to-shoulder, almost hand-in-hand, AS THEY VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO SEND OUR BOYS TO WAR. My son spent 14 months in Iraq; was in the battle at Falujah, with a front row seat. He documented over 75,000 miles in the turret of a Humvee in that country. He was blown up eight (8) times by improvised explosive devices in various convoys and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with a Combat “V”, a Navy/Marine Corps Achievement medal and has a stack of commendations a foot high. Thanks be to God that he is back physically in one piece, albeit he has suffered brain damage and has PTSD badly, for which he is receiving treatment from the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Not to be outdone, my son’s older brother also joined the Marine Reserve unit in our state, which suffered the greatest losses of any company of Marines up to that point. My older son had to “bag” many of his personal friends and viewed carnage that I cannot even imagine. He was one of three left in his platoon when they returned home.

Sure, my sons certainly meted out more than they got. That’s what the Marine Corps train them to do!!!

I wrote all of that for this question: What if?

1. What if Manhattan did get vaporized with a suitcase nuke? Who would the reader want to fight the enemy that is on OUR SHORES? Code Pink?

2. What if on 9/11/07 there were amphibious assault vehicles landing on Cesar E Chavez Park and dumping enumerable company of warriors onto our shores and the members of Code Pink got to watch them goose-step down University Avenue, killing everyone in sight? Who would you Berkeleites want to rescue you? Code Pink? No…I think the Marines would be the ones you would want.

3. What if another war breaks out on our shores. When everyone in Berkeley has finally awakened from their state of denial, they would all in one accord be demanding (not requesting) that someone send the Marines to help them out of their plight.

4. What if after the towers went down and the Pentagon was damaged, the Sears Tower was destroyed and then the national power grid was destroyed?

I wonder whether Code Pink realizes why Camp Pendleton is on the WEST COAST?! Could it be to help secure our western seaboard? Just like there is Camp LeJeune on the Eastern seaboard. My point is simple: My sons would have been expected (not requested) to served their country in some armed forces capacity if the combatants were on our soil. Don’t kid me Code Pink, you would be demanding someone to come and rescue you from the enemy. That is why our government was so one-voiced during the days after 9/11: they were worried that they too could be in danger; they too could be in the next building that gets rammed by a projectile of some sort. When the reality set into the minds of government officials that the fire could possibly be under their behinds, they wanted young men like MY SONS to go SOMEWHERE ELSE AND FIGHT; ANYWHERE BUT HERE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! And I’m all for that: keep the fight off of our soil, where our children have to learn of it with the own eyes and ears and possibly with their lives. Oh, and I do believe that California Representatives and Senators were in favor of sending my sons out, even though some Mayors in California were not in favor.

On our shores or off of our shores, our sons and daughters serve this country in our armed forces. We have armed forces because it is a scary world out there with “Sheeple,” Wolves and Sheep Dogs. The wolves are out to get the “sheeple” and the armed sheep dogs are there to prevent it. A simple but ancient truth I’m afraid. We need Sheep Dogs. God gives them to us and the Marines make them so.

FYI, I am totally disgusted with the City of Berkeley’s position on the Marine Recruitment Center. While I do not agree with the USA’s position in the Iraqi conflict, and I believe that our presence in Iraq is based upon mis-guided information by our Federal Government, I DO support our troops in their assigned missions in Iraq. War and combat is a dreadful waste of human lives, but the Marine Corps is simply performing its assigned duties. If the City of Berkeley has a problem with the conflict itself, then the city should deal appropriately with the Federal officals responsible for the decision to invade Iraq and continue the combat operations there, and not with a branch of the military service that is itself subservient to this Federal Government.

I have already reigistered my reaction of disgust with the resolutions passed by the City of Berkeley by e-mail messages to each of the members of its City Council last Thursday. I hope that our Federal and State tax dollars are no longer provided to the City of Berkeley, as the city obviously and illegally is disrupting operations of a military service branch of the Federal Government.

As a current serving member of the United States Army, and three-time veteran of the Iraq war, I say forget it! Berkeley obviously doesn’t respect me or my fellow servicemen and women. Here’s my proposal, and it’s probably already been made, but here goes:

The Sovereign Nation of Berkeley (formerly Berkeley, California), should have it borders to the United States sealed, and anything in-coming or out-going from this sovereign nation should have a stiff tariff applied to it. Berkeley will be responsible for its own defense (not likely to happen), as well as it’s own economic growth and sustainment. All roads into and out of Berkely will have checkpoints such as those at the Mexican border, making it extremely difficult for any citizens of the nation of Berkeley to travel “abroad” for their daily jobs. Berkeley WILL draw federal funding, as they will be their own nation, and responsible for creating those funds. Nancy Pelosi can be the president (notice, no capatilization, as the president of any despicable place like this deserves none of this treatment)…. Harry Reid can be the vp. Berkeley will not be eligible for USAID, as it has recently seceded from the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and become communist. Berkeley will have to deal with their own anti-terrorism issues. Their flag will resemble the US flag, as it has recently seceded. It will have a pink field in the upper left corner, with one white heart inside the pink field, signifying their love of everyone (except Americans or the US military), and their stripes will be multi-colored and in resemblance to the Gay Pride flag used in modern liberal America.

Just an idea. Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton could become czar and assistant-czar, and leave Nancy and Harry in charge of redistribution of wealth,I guess. Let me know what you think, guys. Let’s start a petition. They obviously are unnappreciative of my efforts to secure their safety, and the efforts of my brethren. Forget about ‘em.

It is time for action, ultra liberals (socialist and communist) at Berkeley must be taught a lesson. All Federal dollars must be pulled out of Berkeley and there needs to be a Public Relations effort inform the public to not visit Berkeley for any reason and thus most tourist dollars are lost. Also, we need to encourage college students not to enroll in Univ. Of California at Berkeley, lower student population will deprive them of hugh dollars flowing into the community….we don’t know need any more student endoctrination into Socialist propaganda.
The next time the politicans at Berkeley need help from the Federal government, the Federal government should do nothing as they don’t to confirm to traditional American values or philosophy.

If this City Council has its way and the Marines are forced from the city, I suggest when we are attacked again by terrorists, that Berkeley is left to defend itself.
Our Marines do not deserve to have their honor sullied with the likes of these leftist, non-Americans, nor do they have the responsibility to care for their safety.

I would say as a former Marine, that all officials in the Berlkley City Council should be required to research every conflict that Marines have fought in since the Civil War. Then they should ask themsleves if they are prepared to defend the City if it were to be attacked. I propose that if they evict the Marines, and if the City ever comes under attack, that they arm the taxpayers there to fight and defend.

There is a picture of two young women carrying signs.. one sign reads “Thank God For Dead Soldiers” The other sign reads “Thank God for IEDs” I cannot tell you how deeply angry and sad it makes me feel to know that your freedom to carry those hateful words were not earned by you.. they were earned by brave men and women that died to give you that right.. The people who call America home and can then call out for the deaths of our country’s brave soldiers are no different than the insurgents, terrorists, and nuclear seeking Iranians that our service men and women are fighting. When Iran finally achieves its goal of fully functional nuclear weapons and has them aimed at the United States who are we all going to turn to for help.. are we going to cry out save us PINK??? Are you going to put on your pink shirts, get some pink combat boots, commission some pink protective gear and go off into battle and give your life to save your country.. your family.. your friends.. our country? Or will you change the words on your little sign to read “Thank God For Iran’s NUKES” ? I think IEDs will be a smaller worry then.. It will be the Men and Women the serve our nations armed forces that saves all of us and that includes you.. but don’t worry maybe you will still have your freedoms to make a mockery of their bravery when it is all over.

I am disgusted by the blatant disrespect shown to our United States Marines in Berkeley. I am the very proud daughter of a retired Navy fighter pilot (LCDR), niece of a USAF Col., and granddaughter of a WWII Army POW, and cannot sit back and watch these ridiculous (and far too common) attacks on our military men and women without saying something. These family members, along with all the active/reserve/retired military members of our country, have defended and protected the freedoms of their fellow US citizens, and it pains me to see their sacrifices dishonored in this way. We live in a country where we are free to say, in a public arena, whatever we believe – but this is a privilege and the people of Berkeley do not seem to understand that. It is a responsibility and they are seriously abusing it. I was forwarded the following quote and it has stayed with me ever since I read it:

I too, find the actions of the city council of Berkeley to be reprehensible. I live in Georgia and Senator Chambliss has signed on to the letter written by Senator DeMint. I also believe all federal funding should be withheld. I don’t believe that withholding only the earmarks sends a strong enough message. That being said, what we need to do is look at the root cause for this kind of behavior. I believe that “tolerance” is the culprit. When we tolerate our Senators and Representative to go to the countries of our enemies and try to undermine the President’s foreign policy without prosecuting them we foster this kind of behavior. Sedition is defined in Webster’s as “incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority” and seems to fit this council’s actions to a “t”.

This is the message that should be out in front instead of the “tolerance, but only from my standpoint” that comes from the left and all those who wish to see America overthrown.
This same stance should be taken against all cities that declare themselves “Sanctuary” cities. In fact, the city councils and all elected officials who sign on to these acts of sedition should be removed from office and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Hey Berkeley City Council and Mayor – Saying that you support the troops is absurd! If you support the troops, you support the legislation and politicians that provide for their equipment, pay and recruitment. It means nothing to sit in your offices and SAY you support the troops. Losing federal funding sounds like a fair deal to me.

I am thoroughly DISGUSTED with code pink. Are they called code pink because they represent Communism? Since they appear to strongly support Communism instead of our great Democracy why don’t they all simply move to Communist China and WE CAN ALL BE HAPPY!

Those of us Americans that love freedom and SUPPORT OUR MILITARY can enjoy our Democracy that the Marines are fighting for and those who love Communism can move to China and be happy!

I think that is a win-win situation.

It is the Berkeley City Council’s right to take the course of action that they took but it does not nor should it shield them from the financial consequences of their action. I would urge that federal funds be cut off from Berkeley insofar as this is legally possible.
