Clemens on Capitol Hill: Who’s Lying?

Are you watching the Congressional hearings on the alleged steroid use by Roger Clemens? Roger Clemens ended his opening statement in an emphatic way…insisting that he has never used human growth hormone or steroids. Never.

Brian McNamee continuing to insist he is not lying and that he did inject Roger Clemens. In fact he states today that now that he has had a chance to think about it, he injected Roger Clemens more times than he previously testified to.

So with both Clemens and McNamee insisting their positions are correct….

Who do you believe is telling the truth about whether Roger juiced up?

The one question that keeps popping up in my mind (and I keep wondering why it has not been asked by the media) is “Why has Mcnamee kept the syringes and gauze pads - which he claims he used to inject Roger Clemmens - for all these years?” He definitely had ulterior motives. I believe that he intended to blackmail Clemmens and others. However, when this latest congressional fiasco caught up to him, he decided to “cooperate” by lying and offering evidence in order to save his own neck. Why isn’t FOX looking into this question?

Comment by Lloyd Allen

If McNamee if found to be lying he goes to prison. If Clemons tells the truth he loses much of his ability to earn edorsement money and he admits he is a fraud and a liar. He is much to proud to admit to that. So, of course McNamee is telling the truth. He has more to lose by lying. Roger Clemons has come across as an arrogant jerk through all of this. It is vey obvious from watching him speak that he is a man that truly feels he is above the law and that he feels he should be believed even in the face of overwelming evidence that he indeed took performance enhancing drugs. Roger Clemons is a talented pitcher but a disgrace as a role model for kids and a disgrace to a game that is supposed to exemplfy what America is all about. Just come clean Roger..we can forgive you for taking the drugs but we will never forgive you for this disgraceful display of dishonesty and arrognace.

I believe Roger Clemens did not use steroids. Brian McNamee lied about many things and when he was talking to the feds, I think he made up things as they wanted answers fast. He guessed and fabricated. No one intentionally keeps cotton balls and old needles for 7 years. I think Mcnamee was out to get Roger for a long time and/or use this stuff as a type of blackmail. The needles could have been from someone else using steriods and Brian had lots of opportunity to rub dna from Clemens onto these items.
Anyone who gets their MD diploma off the internet is a phoney and is living a lie for a life. Mcnamee knows all about drugs because he was a former police officer and he saw a way to make fast money. Makes you wonder what kind of cop he was.
I hope Roger Clemens gets a clean sheet from all this. I think between the Feds and McNamee, Andy Pettit answered their statements and not their questions and/or they misinterpreted what he did or did not say. Some investigators don’t listen to the answers people give because they already have their mind made up and don’t want to hear anything else…..just my opinion….and Pettit’s wife only heard hearsay which was inaccurate to begin with (GOSSIP).

With Islamic terrorists pledging to attack us, Iran assembling the components to destroy Israel and the US, illegal immigration threatening our sovreignty and our borders and unions killing our economy, among a slew of other things, I cannot understand why Congress is getting involved in this. This is a matter for baseball, not Congress. But then, the congress, especially the democrats, have always been good at focusing attention away from the real issues and controversy that affect their own congressional tenure. This Roger Clemons episode does not belong in the congress. They can find better topics on which to waste our money.

I watched the proceedings this morning and this afternoon. I am discusted with the way the questioning of Roger Clemens was dishonored by the linch mob waiting to prove him guilty. I can’t believe this trainer lied and lied and then he lied somemore. This is a joke and a waste of money to go to the farthest extent to dishonor Roger and they all looked like idiots! This is the government of the USA!!! I am so angry this was suppost to be a question and answer time. It was clearly not! I am proud of Roger Clemens and I do know he told the truth!!! Even if the coments of the members were completely off sides! meaning Republicans and Democrats!!! You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! I believe Roger Clemens was rail roaded and made to believe this was the time for him to tell his truth! It is an honor to see a respected American Ball Player stand up for himself.
This has been a real joke and I don’t believe you people!!!
I love baseball and I know Roger was telling his truth!

WHO CARES? I do! And so do alot of parents who are trying to teach our kids right and wrong. I applaude our government for looking into this matter. All of you who say you don’t care sure cared enough to reply to this question so you must have some interest in it. As far as who is telling the truth. It is without a doubt Mcnamee. He has nothing to hide and his story has been backed by too many people. He was a police officer and had a feeling bout clemens. I believe him. When we found out today that Clemens contacted the nanny after he was told not to talk to her was the last straw. He is a liar and it will come out. Way to go Congress

Comment by Ron

What I find comical about this is the people that are “judging”. Congress is full of liars and cheats! And as far as McNamee goes, he has repeatedly lied. I don’t know if RC is guilty or not, but if I were on the jury, McNamee’s history certainly leaves a “reasonable doubt” in my mind. As far a AP goes, it is “hear say”. Where is the proof?

Comment by Scott Torgerson

I really don’t care who is telling the truth, primarily because I can’t believe that our Congress is spending this much time and effort on an issue that should be dealt with solely by Major League Baseball! I think Congressmen Waxman and Davis are off on a tangent that ISN’T helping this country or us as individual Americans. Let’s drop this nonsense and focus on what really counts — like improving the economy, keeping jobs in our country, winning a GWOT, and getting illegal immigration under control!

Can someone please explain to me how it now becomes the business of the U.S. Congress to investigate and hold hearings regarding the alleged steroid use of a MLB Pitcher? Or even better, how a certain Senator from PA is able to launch a congressional inquiry into NFL teams taping practice games? This is absolutely outrageous and probably the most ridiculous waste of government time and funds. Anyone know a HOTLINE for Congressional waste fraud and abuse???

Our country is fighting a War on Terror, on the bring of a recession, in the midst of one of the most important presidential elections in history, and Congress is concerned about a soap opera cafeteria cat fight between a disgruntled trainer and a baseball pitcher? Maybe some needs to ask the harder questions to our elected officials where they see this going? Why they care, and what outcome to they hope to achieve from spending this much time and effort spent when they could be addressing more pressing issues this nation currently faces?

After watching the “hearings”
Mr. Clemens is telling the truth
and very firmly for a reason
HE IS INNOCENT
try convincing a psychiatrist you are NOT crazy
the more you say, the more they say “see, see, see” you are crazy!!!

The needle saving liar is just that
A LIAR
admitted to by his very own words on national television

I don’t understand a world who hears the truth
and insists it is a lie

I don’t understand a world who hears a lie
and insists it is the truth

For the love of baseball, “who cares who is telling the truth?” Its hard to believe we are fighting a war on terrorism, trying to salvage an economy that is swirling rapidly around the toilet bowl heading south as well as heading into the most disgusting Presidential Election in the last hundred years and The Congress of The United States of America is spending their time trying to determine whether or not Roger Clemens “corrupted America’s past time by taking human growth steriods! Would somebody please explain to me what difference is makes? There was no policy against the use of this kind of drug at the time he is supposed to have taken it so even if The Justice Department can prove he did what difference does it make? Are we so hypocritical as a nation that we’re going to allow Congress, the single largest group of lying hypocrits in the free world, and those they oversee to throw the book at a sports legend “for being dishonest?” Who are we kidding here? Somebody needs to get a grip on themselves and acknowledge that the American people, by an overwhelming majority, could not care less what Congress thinks about Roger Clemens or anyone else! The press makes so much noise about the poor job approval ratings for President Bush and well they should. Yet his job approval rating is almost 10% higher than that of the boys on Capital Hill! Could the problem be their arrogantly thinking they can deflect our criticism by distracting us with this meaningless dribble while out nation slowly disintegrates? Why not spend their time on what matters most to the American people? Quit wasting your time and our money! Enough of your “pork barrel politics;” fix the economy; win the war on terror and give us a better option for November than choosing between “heart disease” and “cancer!”

Comment by Kylie

I’m so happy that most people are asking, ‘who cares??’ about this subject. I mean, if Roger Clemens has been injected with steriods or growth hormones, I’m sure 90% of the rest of the professional athletes also have been!! The hearing today was laughable, at times, as I watched some of the members of Congress tip their hats to Clemens and his time as a New York Yankee, etc…yet they still cross-examine him with retarded questions.

I’m sorry, I just find it so silly to be wasting our time on these sporting issues, which aren’t any business of Congress or the government. We have immigration issues to tend to. Wars to fight and win. An upcoming election that’s pivotal to our countries history. Give it up, Congress. Give the case to MLB instead. Put players on probation. Suspend them. Hell, I don’t care. They’re baseball players who are there to entertain us. Quite frankly, I could care less if they’re juicing themselves up. Again, it’s all entertainment. I’m sure WWE wrestlers, football players and nearly players from every other sport inject themselves with something…but they aren’t in Washington testifying under oath!! It’s their body and if they want to harm themselves, go right ahead…

I am 38 years old and plan on retiring. Will Social Security be there to add to my retirement? Are the borders being secured? Is the budget balanced? Start doing the PEOPLES business, that is what these stupid idiots were sent to Washington to do. Stop wasting MY tax money or give it back and I’ll start my own social security program. Either way, who gives a S&^* what Roger, Barry or any other ball player put in his body. Just another example of BIGGER and MORE government being shoved down our throats. Thanks DEMOCRATIC controlled House and Senate!

i agree with the overall view of valuable time wasted bt this committee.that being agreed, how does a drug dealer get so much credibility?are our values as a country soooo skewed and flawed that the common drug dealer goes before our governing body and passes muster because he said he was telling the truth?

Comment by kam0803

Well, for what it’s worth…as a Houstonian I may be biased but I believe Roger Clemens. I’ve never had the chance to meet him but from what I’ve heard of him from people that do actually know him he’s an honest and decent guy. His former trainer on the other hand gives me the impression that he’s an opportunistic liar. Maybe he’s got a “tell all ” book deal waiting in the wings. It wouldn’t be the first time something like that has happened. Maybe the guy saw all the money the players make and “wanted a piece of the pie” but lacked the skill and talent and drive to do it right. I would certainly not blame Roger Clemens if he took that guy outside and beat him senseless…just my 2 cents… maybe it’s a Texas thing.

Oh, doesn’t congress have better things to do than berate a baseball player? (ok, the BEST player of our time…) but still, why is any of this their business?

Who really cares about the Mitchell report. What a waste of tax dollars. Is this the important issues that elected officials are sent to Washington to do? Who would ever have thought that so many dollars and so much time would have been taken by the government to probe an investigation into a sport related issue. This is not an issue of the government but one for the baseball league. People are out of work, have lost their homes and most importantly we have our bravest in a war that seemingly will never end. I hope everyone remembers what their elected officials were committing their time to resolving when they come up for reelection. Their are real problems in this country and Washington officials think they have the spare time to work endlessly on “baseball” issues. This is what is wrong with our government. They promise you to work hard on issues that effect our nation until they get into office and this is the issues they choose to become involved with. Every official that took part in this investigation and especially Mitchell, should be remembered and not sent back to Washington. We need good works for many many issues that affect our nation as a hold not as a sport.

Thank you kindly.

While I acknowledge that drug abuse (legal, prescribed, or otherwise) is a problem in our society, I think it is disgusting that Congress is wasting our time and taxes on steroid abuse in professional sports. In this day and age of war on terror, need for immigration law enforcement, and deteriorated economy, a national debt, and continuing to stick our idealistic nose in the business of other nations it is high time for Congress to focus on the real national issues that are before us. Focusing on steroid abuse in professional sports solves no national sovereignty or economic burning issue. Shame on Congress and Rep Waxman for seeking public “face time”, vice resolving the real serious ills of our nation.

Comment by Lydia

This hearing was ridiculous. They lost sight of the point of the hearing and went wandering around other things like being a drug dealer and his apparent PHD. WHEN was the ONE question asked as to what Mcnamee had to gain from this whole debacle. Never. This is what those who sit in the Congress in DC do with their time. They are less informed that real people and just spend our money and time to do nothing.

Comment by Bennie

FYI

As set forth in House Rule X, clause 4, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform may, at any time, conduct investigations of any matter regardless of whether another standing committee has jurisdiction over the matter. In 1998, Rep. Waxman formed the Special Investigations Division to conduct investigations into issues that are important to members of the Oversight Committee and other members of Congress

Comment by Karl Gilje

Who gives people shots and saves the syringes for years? This guy stinks and apparently had ideas on the future. Even though the release of the privately taped conversation with Clemens might be in bad taste, listen to the conversation when Clemens tells this guy he did not use steroids and what this guy replied to Clemens.

Comment by Bill R.

Does any one see what I see? Andy Petitte (AP) thought Roger Clemens (RC) was on the juice and RC did not realize it till this year. I had a similar problem with my friend. He thought I was using a drug because he thought from a conversation and never asked about it until 3 years later. We laughed about it. But for RC and AP it is not funny. I am disturbed at a person that would save gauze for 6 years just for this. Looks too fishy to me. RC does not look like the kind of person that would need to use it. He was committed to working his body out. AP I think was mistaken. Him telling his wife anything does not mean anything except he told his wife something that was not fact. This trainer however is a threat to all and should be prosecuted to the fullest of the law. He was and is a drug dealer and should know better. The ball players should be suspended from the game. I think we need to take some awards away like Barry and Mark’s records. Clean the act up. Football has the same issues. Some of those guys could not get that size with out the juice. They need to be suspended also. Just my opinion.

Comment by BJ

I watched the entire hearing & have to conclude that Clemens is lying. “Thou who protest the loudest….” I felt that everytime he was asked a direct question, he “filibustered”. One has to understand the position a trainer is in dealing with such huge public pros with huge egos. I’m sure that the trainer took orders more than he gave any and therein you can see how this could’ve happened. Clemens had nothing to lose by lying under oath and so much to gain. He had to try to restore his reputation or his future was ruined so he lied. McNamee took a real beating and was cooperative. To people who think this is a waste of Congress’s time need to wake up and see what an impression on our youth that athletes and celebrities have. Duh–

Comment by Gary

Clemens please come clean. Your best friend outed you. Lets get on with the future.
All these present day players are killing the trust in the game. And Yes Congress has the right to investigate. I just wish they would investigate and straighten out their own.

I agree with most of the posted comments. Congress should find something better to do. I understand why Fox is reporting this, but they shouldn’t spend so much time on it. Leave it to ESPN. It is not worthy of a “Breaking News Alert”. Then again….I also get Fox News email alerts about Britney Spears. I love Fox News and don’t want them to lose credibility with all of this junk.

People wake up! Clemens is a lying sac. Look at all the things he has to lose, you think he is going to say he took them, of course not, so he is fighting it. Just like Marion Jones, Rafael Palmero, Bonds, and all the others, until the truth finally comes out. Sorry Roger but eveyone else’s story is correct but yours is not, you are a joke and making a fool of yourself. You just want everyone to kiss your behind.

Enough of this congress is wasting time, they still work on all the other issues going on! People do not understand how this works and keep throwing out that these legislators are wasting time. Your wasting time by making such idiotic comments.

Comment by Fernando Vega

I’m going to agree with all those smart people who said the only thing that matters on this issue. Congress STAY OUT OF SPORT’S ISSUES AND DO YOUR JOB!!! I love baseball and believe that this is an important issue as far as the possible trickle down effect of steroids in professional sports and the eventual possible lead to steroids in youth sports. Honestly though, there comes a point and time where you, as a member of congress, have to prioritize. There are many, many, many other issues that are ten times more important than steroids in sports.

Secondly I am not just going to stop at blaming congress for wasting our time. I am also going to blame FOX News and every other network that brodcasts this crap and other crap like it almost 24 hours a day. It is your responsibility as members of the media to provide the people of this nation with information and NEWS that we can all use to make good, informed, decisions. Whether these decisions be who we are going to choose as out next president or where we’re going to buy our dinner from. It is not your responisbility though, to distract us from the real issues at hand by parading around this nonsense at all hours of the day.

We as a people have placed the media and our government officials in the most powerful positions on this planet. It’s time that we as a people start holding them accountable for their actions. It’s time that we as a people use our powers to truely “clean up” the mess that we have created.

Comment by rob

I totally agree with Kimberly. Who voted these idiots in to talk about steroids? The arrogance of these politicians is appalling. It is none of their business and they should quit wasting their time and the tax payers money.

Comment by Buddycow

I don’t think congress has any busy in this or in the NFL spygate episode. We all complain about them wasting taxpayer money this way when there are other, more important things that need to be done like health care, the economy, etc. Don’t blame the politicians ~ blame yourself, myself included ~ for voting them into office and, in a lot of cases (i.e, Kennedy, etc), for giving them life-time appts. by being lazy at the poles and being scared of change. ‘We the People’ are a bunch of lazy winers who want to blame everyone else when we are the culprits.

Comment by brokenpole

Well you can add my name to the who cares column.

Last time I looked, all of these players were over the age of 18. Last time I looked, baseball was a privately owned enterprise. Oh..but then there is that anti-trust status. But if congress took that away (which I think they should) then they wouldn’t have it to hold over the heads of the owners every couple of years.

Personally, I think we should have a congressional hearing to see how many of those in congress were taking some form of illegal substance when they decided to put on this circus. I’m just wating for the clowns to come in with that little car. But in that at least there would be entertainment.

Hey Fox…let it go. It ain’t worth it.

Comment by Ann W

Does anyone remember the McCarthy hearings and what a travesty they were? At least those hearings were about Communism - this, on the other hand, is just a senseless witchhunt!!!!!!!

Comment by Barry S.

Why is Congress involved in this??

It is not a Government issue!!!

Doesn’t Congress have “More Important” work they should be doing???

What a waste of taxpayer $$$$

Comment by Rober Duncan

Waxman is an idiot!! This is just a way for some of our congressmen to gain publicity. This is not the job of congress. If it really is a problem, the baseball commissioners should be handling it . No wonder congress has such a low approval rating.

Comment by Maurice

Roger has the guts to defend his reputation. He handled himself really well agains terrible odds. Why the hell did the Mitchell report reveal the names of “some players’ that allegedly doped but did not investigate other teams or “baseball drug pushers”. They got their big name to showboat. What a disgrace from our government officials. Hang on Roger. You will prevail.

I agree With Henry Waxman . I believe Mcnamee and Pettitte are telling the truth and Clemens will be found to be a liar down the road. What goes around comes around! I live in Chicago, and seen alot of things come back around. If you know what I mean…………”IT IS WHAT IT IS”

Comment by bob

if one of our boys overseas gets killed because we haven’ got the money we need to adequately protect him, then every one of these congressmen involved in this witch-hunt should be investigated personally and forced to resign in shame!!!!!
Get real people, we have way more pressing needs before this country than finding out if a future hall-of-fame pitcher did or did not take preformance enhancing drugs or if some small time, proven liar of a trainer lied to congress!! Send my money back that was spent on this bood-doggle and get on with what you were elected to do.

Comment by D.L. Morgan

If Clemens’ testimony isn’t right, then you must indict!

What didn’t sound right?
• Clemens’ impropriety: He flew his nanny – a potential witness – to his home.
• He didn’t fire Brian McNamee after his wife suffered side affects resultant of his illegal HGH injection.
• It did not sound right that Clemens said Andy Pettite’s claim that he took HGH was untrue, although Clemens said that Pettite’s a close friend and very honest.
• He didn’t know that the Mitchell Report included damning testimony; even though that was proven to be a lie.
• Clemens said he didn’t know if his wife and kids were at a former player’s barbeque; although it was learned that they were there and slept over.

In view of how important this matter ultimately is to our youth, I am disappointed with the Republican congressional members’ (except Mark Souter) sychophantic handling of Clemens and their mean attacks on McNamee; especially by Dan Burton’s (R – In.). Their actions will deter others from offering up helpful information.

As for Congress’ involvement with the PED issue I ask if the government doesn’t clean up this problem, then who will? Surely not MLB.

My husband and I are parents of a grade-school baseball player and we’re concerned that high school ballplayers are abusing PED’s in order to improve their chances for college scholarships or pro contracts. Those who don’t use PED’s often times lose out competitively to those that do, therefore, many teenagers opt to also partake of PED’s.

Anyone who doesn’t “get” why it’s important to clean up PED’s either has no kids in youth sports, or is intellectually impaird.

Comment by Ron B

Many of the Faux news readers don’t understand the significance of this. The thousands of children influenced by these stars realize very quickly that these drugs help them get a cheerleader girlfriend or a scholarship or a fabulous physique or a professional contract anf maybe even immortality in the Hall Of Fame. What they don’t realize is that these drugs lead to diseases and early deaths and birth defects. People like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens deserve all the scorn they are getting because of all the damage they are doing. Wake up people!

Comment by Linda

I think Roger clemens is lying…It also makes me sick to watch certain members of the committee pampering Roger. Why doesn’t Roger tell the truth—admit he made a mistake and ask for forgiveness…I would think a lot more of him if he made lemonade out of lemons in this situation. He could speak out to our youth and let them know he is human and that they shouldn’t use these drugs…
ALSO—WHAT’S WITH ALL THE AUTOGRAPHS, ETC.??? THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED. CONFLICT OF INTEREST?????

I dont believe Mcnamee or Clemons— But Knoblock and Pettite— Wow !!!
sounds like perjury to me !!

Comment by Kati B

I believe Clemens is telling the truth but honestly I could really give a flying flip if he was injected or not! It’s his body and let him do with it as he pleases! All I can say is that I’m not going to lose any sleep over this issue! I think McNamee is simply full of crap. He basically says that he was not trying to hurt anyone or call them out for the nation to know, but yet he has evidence from seven years ago to prove it. Give me a break! It’s ignorant! Put our tax dollars to work on issues that really matter and that affect our country!

Comment by Sharon Richenberg

This is such a waste of our tax dollors. The only reason congress is doing this is to make someone look worse than them It is not working!!! This is the worst congress we have had in my 65 years. It is almost funny that the most corrupt liers are questioning others about telling the truth. That takes in both sides of isle..

Comment by Jim Phillips

If the needles and gauze have Clemens blood on it so what? He said he had been injected with B12! Keep needles for years!! McNamee is scum. He’s a liar, Waxman is about as bad.

Comment by Husker15

Sorry Lisa … Congress job is to oversee baseball. The granted MLB anti-turst exemption. By definition, this is part of their job … they see corruption, racketeering, a report substantiating the accusations … part of their job is to have a hearing on this. Does this mean they’ll pull that exemption? NO What this does is give baseball and it’s cohorts an embarrassing tongue lashing while getting camera play at the same time. It also fires the light under the asses of owner and Bud Selig to get a decent drug testing system in place. Congress has all sorts of hearing every week. We just don’t see it because most americans don’t care what they are having hearings on.

Comment by M.Marks

I think it is possible that they are BOTH telling the truth.
McNamee may have injected Clemens with these substances
without him knowing what they were.
This is within the realm of possibility.

In regards to the Clemens Steroid delima. Just for info FIRST OF ALL ALL people NEED B-12, as for other use of VITIMINS anyone can look up to see what VITIMINS and minierals all people need to survive and be healthy. ALL ARE available in the foods mankind can if they choose can eat. B-12 is found in meat products. SO A VEGETARIAN NEEDS TO TAKE A SUPPLIMENT TO GET their B-12. THAT is the first truism for all mankind.

SECOND what can B-12 do for the trouble with a person having REUMITOID ARTHURITIS? B-12 is a WAY of treating this type of arutheristis. YEARS AGO when I was a girl My mother found herself unable to walk without great difficulty and finally could not walk at all. SHE was TAKEN to HER DRS OFFICE. the DR was an elderly man . in his 70’s or 80’s Still practicing medicine. IN A town not far from where we lived at the time. HE gave her a shot and by the time she got home maybe 20 minutes away she was without pain and was able to walk and had no problem. she did not understand why it was so fast actig and she had been told that this shot would take care of the pain and the problemNOT GUARRENTEEING she would not need another sometime.
Because of the quickness of the shot and action and apparently pain reliever she called later to ask him what was the medicine in case he died and she had the problem later. HE SAID it was NOTHING BUT pure B-12 In liquid form. Stronger then a pill or what one would get in a Vitimin or in the meat she would eat. THAT ONE TIME shot she never was bothered again with any peralisis or pain because of INABILITY TO WALK. did she suffer arthuritis yes in the fingers wrists and she then took suppliments of B-12 along wityh being big meat eater of beef. because MEAT OF BEEF PORK CHICKEN ALL HAS PLENTY OF B-12 for a healthy and not deficient in this NEEDFULL VITIMIN..

None should be useing Steroids that are not needed. It is actually OVERDOSING ON MINERIALS and VITIMINS AND this can be VERY DANGEROUS TO ANYONES health just as DEFICIENCY IN BOTH CAN be HAZARDES ALSO ..

now for a [personal note as to THE USE IN SPORTS is it legal ?? DEPENSS ON what AND HOW MUCH ANY person wants to have THE GOVERNMENT telling the PEOPLE about the rules GOVERNING ANY SPORT who makes the rules on any SPORTS GAMES?? IS there such a book called the BOOK OF HOYLE. is there such a person that INVENTED A GAME OF FOOTBALL , BASEBALL< SOCCOR yet whom is not guilty of the sin of BAREING FALSE witness against something or someone. at some time. BACK TO YESTERDAYS the NOW and THE FUTURE OF whos TOMORROWS.

NONE EAT RIGHT, LIVE RIGHT, OR DO RIGHT, ALL THE “time” … MAKES one then wonder what and who do we believe, agree, and accept as any truth WHEN truth can not also be a lie and a lie can not also be a truth.

Sorry such a long email … BELIEVING IN A CREATOR HEAVNLY FATHER LORD GOD AND A SAVIOR CALLED CHRIST JESUS is NOT ALWAYS AN ACCEPTED TRUTH for many DOES NOT MAKE the HOLY BIBLE ANY LESS A HOLY BOOK FOR ANY THAT KNOW IN WHOM THEY HAVE BELIEVED BY FAITH DOES the REASON WHY really matter. to those that have not ???

I thought it should and just might YET NO IT REALLY does not matter. ONLY TO THOSE THAT have faith in that not seen .

Well we certainly were given graphic demonstration of a very overpaid and extremely underachieving committee at work. To top it all off, no matter what conclusions (or the lack of) were reached, the last straw was the editorializing by the Hon. Mr. Waxman as a parting shot. I personally felt that the body language and demeanor of McNamee was pretty consistant with his “telling the truth factor”, which is awfully low. On the other hand, Roger seemed more poised and able to look the committee members in the eye. However it turns out, Waxman and his cronies got some serious camera time and after all, that’s what it is all about, isn’t it? Maybe now we can get back to the mundane thimgs like IMMIGRATION< SOCIAL SECURITY< HEALTHCARE and, Oh yeah, protecting the United States and supporting our troops.

What is Congress up to with this, when we have some real problems to deal with in our country. This committee is just one more example of how far off the current led congress is from dealing with the business of the people, war, economy, illegal immigration.

Members of Government and politicians in general lie every single day and nothing is done, including continual lies from Pres Clinton without consequenses. What is with that.

I hope the constituency of this committees members are watching closely how their representative is spending our money.

Who has more to lose if they are found out to be lying? McNamee has already been proven to be a liar and his reputation will be forever tainted. If Clemens is proven to be a liar, while he may have already lost some of his reputation, he has EVERYTHING ELSE to lose.

Many people have left posts asking who has the most to lose? I propose the question:

WHO HAS THE MOST AT STAKE IF THEY ARE PROVEN TO BE A LIAR?

I believe Roger Clemens.

Comment by JJI

McNamee has admittedly lied to federal law enforcement officers. Martha Stewart went to jail for that same offense. He lied to officials and to investigator’s repeatedly. He was dealing in illegal drugs. He lied about and inflated his qualifications to MLB. He performed medical procedures for which he was not qualified. That is practicing medicine without a license. He lied about his qualifications to MLB players. He claimed to have a legitimate PhD. He called himself and held himself out as a “Doctor”. His PhD was a piece of paper from an on-line papermill that he claims he earned after taking some version of 11 on line courses. Further, this man is a former NY police officer. Why isn’t he still?

Facts that are not disputable are that McNamee is a liar and his claim is unsubstantiated.

Other facts that are not disputable; our U.S Congress has voted themselves huge pay, expense accounts, the best health insurance in the world, extraordinary retirement benefits and yet our military service members receive from these same elected self-inflated blowhards something below a welfare standard. Ask a disabled veteran what they receive for their service and sacrafice. Ask a military spouse what they recieve for the loss of life when their spouse is killed in action. Ask a military service member what their children receive in the event of their death.

The cost of conducting this hearing, a kangeroo court, was extraordinary, irresponsible and a disgrace.

They are both liars. McNamee admitted his lies. Clemens is an egotistical jack ***. Knoblauch and Pettite both confirmed McNamee’s stories in the Mitchell Report, yet the rocket denies it. Why would McNamee make this up about his good friend please tell me. Roger man up!

Comment by ldavis

Waxman is an idiot. McNamee would lie about Clemens to heighten the interest. He is such a liar tht he testified he is a liar. So he could have injected Knoblach and Pettite and not clemens but say he did for the hell of it. Waxman was truly lynching Clemens. The chain of command on the syringes and gauze is laughable. He could get Clements DNA anywhere and transfer it. I didn’t believe Roger Clemens UNTIL TODAY. He was more credible and I liked his wife’s statement. Clemens did look nervous but put me in front of congress and I would look nervous too. However, to McNamee’s credit, I don’t think he is a drug dealer. These drugs are NOT ILLEGAL. That congressman was an idiot too. He gave drugs to players that wanted them and he is a doctor of whatever kind. A doctor is a doctor kno matter how stupid they are. Today went to Clemens and I haven’t like him since he was a Red Sox.

I’m not certain which of them is lying, but does McNamee also have bloody gauze and needles from Pettite and Knoblauch that he held onto for all these years? It just seems very odd to me that the only physical evidence (which I’m fairly certain will be viewed as inadmissable, tainted, and comprimised because of the supposed storage method) is from Clemens.

Although I am inclined to believe that Roger Clemons has not been totally truthful, I think the issue needing addressed is Congress’ involvement in these matters. It is deplorable that Congress allow these hearings to take place. As the Congresswoman from NC mentioned, the House Cmte on Oversight has more important business requiring their attention - i.e. government oversight and accountability. Although I enjoy MLB, it should not be the position of the federal government to regulate professional sports and player conduct - this is the responsibility of league commissioners. Regardless of who he is, Congress should never have allowed Roger Clemons to make his voice heard and ‘clear’ his name via this forum, and has such continued to focus their priorities on issues having the minute affect on their constituents. If ‘John Doe’ taxpayer has an issue about which he feels strongly, or feels he needs to ‘set the record straight’, will he be afforded the opportunity to address a House Committee? I think not.

Vitamin shots huh ? Yea right…What a crock. Sounds like it came right from the playbook of Johhny Cockroach- O.J. Simpsons evil attorney. If Clemens had not already known about testimony indicating there was evidence from syringes, pads etc you would never even hear this ridiculous defense of VITAMINS. BE A MAN — ROGER DODGER— BE A MAN AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN !!! You bent over for those needles- now you may get a chance to do it in prison.

You can’t bull a Bull%$^^$ and you are standing before the best in Congress……

“Mediocrity always attacks excellence”

I believe you Roger and I still use you as an example of hard work and excellence to my own children who want to excel in athletics - you are one of the greatest athletes of all time. Stay strong - you are doing the right thing by fighting this.

This committee is a disgrace! Thank you Waxman for your negative leadership - shame on all for wasting our tax dollars like this! Roger Clemens is the only example of courage and leadership I saw today.

Shame, Shame, Shame: Shep Smith hits a home run!!! We’ve no NATIONAL energy policy, the nation’s economy has tanked, illegal (immigrants) are flooding over our borders (so much so that by some estimates in the year 2050 less than 50% of Americans will be America born), the Iraq war and war on terrorism are being lost (and forget the President’s culpability on that front look at what Congress has NOT done by way of homeland security), and in our nation’s Capitol our elected representatives are talking baseball. One esteemed Senator went so far as to say, “and the Holy-er than thou types on TV,,,,,,,,” question why we are not taking care of the other problems. He then went on to say that they are,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, oh, yes, now I feel better! That this hearing, on this subject has even taken place speaks for itself. We are in a downward spiral the vortex of which is blacker than those infamous black holes of outer space.

McNamee did nothing more than the player’s regular doctor does with prescription pain medicine. Clemens knew what he was getting and even had McNamee shot his wife up. McNamee is no angel, but Clemens is not the dumb country boy he tried to put forth at the committee. If he had nothing to hide, why did he not come forward at the LAST hearing.
He is using this forum to pull the wool over everyong and look good. Hell, even the politicans were taking sides……some TOO obvious. I would chk their campaign funds and look for any checks with Clemen’s name on it.
Both witnesses lied at some time during the investigation……….bottomline though is Clemen’s shot up. Even his player friends say he did.

After watching this mornings hearings I believe Roger Clemens. I too, cannot believe that Mr. Waxman apologized to Mr. McNamee for being confronted by hard questions and blunt opinions. What bothers me most is that these hearings really did nothing to insure the prevention of steroid use by our youth.

Comment by Mary from NC

I have been watching this hearing and I would hope that Chairman Waxman (D-CA) would crawl back into his turtle shell and hibernate until the next election.

This Congress is wasting OUR MONEY on the Mitchell Report and subsequent hearings. The only people who can get MLB to listen are the FANS!!! If the fans boycott the games until MLB cleans up its act (and that includes Mr. Selig) than there won’t be any revenues to pay the high priced players/managers. Unlike the pictures of Clemens shown today, if they showed 4 pictures of Barry Bonds at different stages in his career and how his body has changed, I think there would be outrage that MLB let his record stand!

How is it that the greats of yester-year were able to make such great records living on cigarettes and hot dogs, yet the players of today can’t?

How is it that Congress didn’t want to do anything about a President who lied under oath before the American people, but are wasting our tax dollars over an issue they have no control over???

When are sports fans going to take the high road and take a stand for what is right and decent???

I am not sure who to believe, but I do believe that the trainer was and is up to something. Why would he save old needles and cotton balls unless he was going to blackmail or do something with them. I have 4 children and one of my sons is playing college baseball right now and we talk to him all the time about steroids and other bad drugs. As parents it is our job to know what kids are taking and not taking. I have been going to a weight lose doctor and one of my treatments is to get B6 and B12 shots for energy. So I know people get these shots. I also get pain/steroids shots for my neck and back because I was in a bad wreck. So when Roger said he was getting shots for his pain I believe him. I believe that congress should take care of the U.S. and leave baseball to the people who run it. If the players are taking these bad drugs they are the ones that will pay for it.
