Considering the un-American way some of the people of Berkley are acting, maybe the federal government should just suspend any federal dollars from reaching the city in any form at all.

The position of the Berkley City Council is atrocious. Regardless of political position the slap in the face of our military men and women is unacceptable. The right to disagee has been made possible by the strenght of our military and our countries willingness to stand up for what is right. We should try to talk, but when negotiation does not work, for those who do not wish to negotiate, we must have the will to fight back or we will all become victims of those who wish to prey upon the weak. I will drive around, never through, will not spend a dime in the City of Shame, Berkley, California.

As a native Californian, born in San Francisco; successful businessman based in Sacramento for the last 25 years; US Army and Vietnam Veteran; Patriot and staunch supporter of our troops and their families, I’m here to denounce the actions and attitudes of this City Council, in regards to the United States Military Services.

I have also requested of all of my government Representatives to support any and all sanctions that might be imposed upon the City of Berkeley and this administrative body. Another small bit that I can do is to exercise my right to determine where I will do business or spend money, so Berkeley has been removed from that list and I will recommend to all that I know to do the same.

Furthermore:
I would also like to suggest to the good and fair minded residents of Berkeley that it is time to stand up and speak up to replace those members of this council that would conspire with the likes of Code Pink to support the evil that is sworn to destroy us and our free way of life here in this great nation.

The Marines are not the real issue here, they just happen to be the ones in the line of fire at this point in time. As stated by several members of the Berkeley City Council (BCC), this whole mess is simply a matter of them wanting to express their dissatisfaction with the current administration that “got us into this despicable war”. The big problem is that we didn’t start the war on terror, but we do, as a nation, need to finish it; and we need to finish it over there or it will surely have to be fought here on our home soil.

I think that this shows the general contempt that most all liberals have for the institution and the people of the military. As a Army veteran 78-00, I was in service from the Carter administration, through the Reagan/Bush years and into the Clinton era. The differences in the way we were treated and regarded from Rep-Dem was monumental. The funny thing is that I hear all these liberals proclaiming to “support the troops”, however I had seen very little support from the left until it was politically popular to do so. if the powers that be in Berkley choose to banish the military, the federal goverment should choose to withhold federal funds from any non essential government programs in that congressional district.
As for the war “A war is tantamount to a back alley fight, you may not want to be there, and you may regret the path you chose that put you there; but once you’re in it, you damn sure better win it”

The city council rulings doesn’t surprise me. It is California after all. ( home of Nancy Pelosi, need i say more) . If it were up to me all federal funding for the whole area would be withheld til they came around to a more patriotic way of thinking. The Berkeley City Council is as dispicale an organization as has ever existing within the boundaries of the United States.

I came to this country as a young boy born of parents who survived Nazi Germany and life in Communist Poland and Russia. At the age of 17 I joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam, one as a grunt and the second as a Huey Pilot. I had my tour cut short by a little RPG fired at my medivac bird by VC. Are you sure you weren’t one of them?

After my recovery, I returned to active duty subsequently leaving the Army and joining the Coast Guard. I deployed many times to many places in my career with the Coast Guard. I cna tell you the saddest day of my life was being made to retire because I had too many years in service.

You people are human ofle. You make me sick to my very core. You are a bunch of traitorous bastards that should all be sent somewhere else. You do not appreciate all that this country offers its citizenry.

It disgusts me that The Peoples Communist Republic of Berkely is still part of this great country and incites anger in my core that my hard earned tax dollars go help fund project within the confines of your little town. You are inconsequential scum.

Gave a listen to Laura Ingraham the other day, and she had a Berkeley official on attempting to justify this as a method of showing their opposition to the war.

Every member of the Town Council and Mayor’s office should be held accountable. No way America should stand for this.

Laura also had a great interview with a guy who penned a book on the Mexican Mafia in this country. Apparently they are taking over governmental positions in numerous towns in California. Wonder if Berkeley is one of them.

As a former Marine, I find the actions taken by Berkeley in violation of all the supossed free speech, free expression, and cultural diversity they purport to stand for. I have had to continually confront these liberal elitists since my days in high school, and I can tell you this….they are anything but open-minded and fair. This action taken by Berkeley reminds me of a college professor I had who once told the class Marines are ‘retards’.

The leftist ideology has so ingrained itself in academia, that these institutions are nothing more than political propaganda centers bent on redefining American culture. Berkeley has shown itself to be a puppet of leftist fear mongering instead of an institution of higher learning.

Perhaps the Berkeley City Hall could be converted into a Veteran’s Hospital.

Then the City Council could meet at the University of Berkeley that runs the town anyways.

The Berkeley City Council’s action to “disinvite” our Marine recruiters seems to me to be tantamount to attempting to secede from these United States. Our Marines and the rest of our military keep our country free.

If Berkeley feels so inclined as to disrespect our federal troops, the rest of our country should feel no further obligation to Berkeley–no federal funds, no federal representation, no federal protection.

I’ll be glad to write to the powers-that-be of Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups that wish us great harm to let them know of beautiful downtown Berkeley. If they are looking for a new target to hit, perhaps they would consider Berkeley. If they do, though, I have a strong feeling that the Berkeley City Council, and the citizens who have voted in these disgraceful politicians, would be calling loud and clear for the Marines to offer protection.

I am just an average family man who has enjoyed shopping and dining in some of Berkeley’s fine establishments over the years. This stand against the USMC recruitment office by the local council has outraged me.

I have never been more deeply ashamed of my fellow citizens than the Berkeley City Council. How can anyone justify kicking out a Marine recruiting depot by saying they don’t want their children “indoctrinated” by the military? For those of you who have never served, please believe this from a Navy veteran, a Navy wife of 25 years, and the mother of two active duty Air Force sons: Military personnel may be taught to kill, but they are taught killing is a last resort, and only in self-defense. Military personnel see so much death, they are repulsed by it, and attempt to preserve human life as best they can. Serving your country is the most noble thing you can do. I, and my father in law, both believe this would be a lot better country, and place to live, if service to the U.S. is a requirement for 2 years at age 18. The military is only one aspect of service. The Peace Corps has been around for 48 years. Why shouldn’t young people go somewhere else to help their fellow human beings, in countries where a full stomach is the exception, not the norm? I think if all those so called “public servants” in Berkelely would have done mandated service time, then maybe they wouldn’t have turned out to be the smug, self serving, elitest creeps that they are. I have zero respect for these people. Rational-thinking citizens of Berkeley California: vote these fascists out before it is too late to save what is left of the democracy enjoyed by your place of residence.

This country is in deep trouble when so many citizens fail to distinguish between different things: 1) between being against the war and being against the soldiers, 2) between being against the recruiting system–which so often uses deception–and being against the soldiers, 3) between Saddam Hussein’s regime and Al Qaeda. The latter lack of distinction in the minds of many Americans led us into this awful war in which thousands of Americans and perhaps a million Iraqis have lost their lives. Americans who are not taught to think critically are easy targets for manipulation, such as that done by the Bush administration, who led so many Americans to conflate (join together in the head) 9/11 and Saddam Hussein, who in reality was no threat to the U.S.

Many people who deplore the Berkeley City Council are blurring things together in their heads. Are you so sure that the council wants to criticize the troops? It’s the war and the recruiters that they are criticizing, not the troops. How many realize that the mayor is a former soldier?

So many people writing here are not keeping things straight in their heads. Chris above mixes up the city of Berkeley with U. California, Berkeley (actually, two separate entities, which fight each other all the time). Glenn Palmer says we didn’t start the war on terror, but we have to finish it. Glenn, the war on terror does not start and end with the war in Iraq; two different things. A military campaign is not the way to fight terrorists, as many former generals tell us.

I and many other people who respect and honor the fighting troops deplore the recruiting system that is helping to sustain this war, often by lying to potential recruits. This misbegotten war needs to end. Really, how better can you support the troops than by taking them out of an unnecessary, even detrimental, war? Why do so many people mix “support the troops” with keep them fighting??

How many people commenting above realize that if it had been decided by Berkeley, there would have been no Iraq ware, no 3,000 U.S. military dead, and no creation of a new location of operations for Al Qaeda (which Iraq NOW is)? I’m from Berkeley, and I’m proud that most of the people I know here were right on this issue from the beginning.

The country that so many love will do a lot better if people learn to separate different concepts in their heads!

From my understanding the Berkley City Council is upset with the US Military because of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (signed into law by Pres Clinton). They have added the war in Iraq to their gripes but are pretty mum about the war in Afghanistan or at least I have not heard anything from them on our combat actions there. So let’s say for the sake of argument they support the war in Afghanistan. I have a proposal for them. Let all the people there in Berkley who want to “Tell” join the Marines and they ship them to Afghanistan to fight. In this way Berkley gets what it wants, the Taliban and al-Qaida gets what they deserve, the Marines are welcomed back to Berkley, and everyone is happy. Far fetched? Ya, but so is Berkley.

This is absolutely the worst thing I think Berkeley has ever done. Our troops sacrifice more for their freedom than they could ever imagine, and the fact that the Berkeley Town Council is refusing to back down is just disgusting. I hope the Semper Fi Act is passed- if they would like to remove the US military from their town, then they can also lose US Federal funding.

I thought Berkeley had a reputation for being all about freedom. Since when is denying people a choice of career considered freedom? I cannot believe the arrogance shown by the Berkeley City Council in deciding that no citizen in that area should be allowed to explore a military career. Sounds more like Soviet Russia than California.

Berkeley should be disciplined and cut off from funding. To insult our troops in NOT a matter of free speech. Those people crossed the line and should be ashamed of themselves. Without our men and women in uniform protecting them, they wouldn’t even HAVE the opportunity to say something so insulting about our troops.

It saddens and angers me to see the very freedoms that our troops fight to maintain used in such a deplorable manner. Our brave men and women fight overseas to prevent bringing such tragedy onto our own soil. Heaven forbid anything were to happen anywhere near the City of Berkeley, we would see how “unwelcome” and “intrusive” the Marines (such as my husband) were then. There may be a difference between supporting the troops and protesting the war, but I have not seen or heard it in any of the comments made by the Berkeley City Council or Code Pink.

As the mother of a young soldier serving in Iraq I am appaled by your actions against our military. I do, however, reconize that you recendid your measure. I thank you for that. But your continued lack of support for our military and the brave young men and women who serve you everyday must stop. It is wrong.

In addition I beleive that it is wrong of you to take away the opporturnity for young people to enter the military for what ever reason they chose to. In my son’s case he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life after high school and we did not have the money to send him to college. This was a wonderful opportunity for him. In addition he was able to fulfill his life long dream of being a soldier.

You can be against the war all you want to be…but please, have some common sense and common courtesy toward those who are risking their lives or support those who risk their lives for you and our country. It’s just the right thing to do.

I am a naturalized citizen, which means that I was not born here and chose to be an American. It is a privilege that I value and will never give up. It turns my stomach to see people who are born here and had to do nothing to earn this blessing behave as if this country and its military are trash. Who do they think will defend the liberty that they have to behave like the idiots that they are? Do they think Tom Cruise or Clooney or Barbra or Michael Moore will get dirty in the trenches and actually fight? Nah. The City Council and all members should be given some history lessons starting with the Revolutionary War. Who do they think fought and died for their rights they enjoy as Americans?

What the Mayor of Berkeley and the City Council has done to and about the whole Marine situation is reprehensible. They definitely owe the Marines and every other branch of the Armed Forces and apology and they should be most grateful for the fact that those men and women are over in Iraq defending our nation against the horrible possibility of our country being bombed and attacked every day if nothing is done to stop Islamic Terrorists. We need to keep our people in this country safe and the best way to do it is to make sure the war that they are waging stays over there. If this country bows to people such as Mayor Bates and his ilk, this country will no longer be safe because the Terrorists will know that they have a wealthy home right here to bomb and pillage and take apart piece by piece.

For anyone to sanction what Mayor Bates is doing is tantamount to treason on our own soil, and that should never be tolerated by any self-respecting American. I certainly do hope that our Congress and those Government officials that know something about Laws and Rules act appropriately and closes off all funding to any City, State, and County or Township Government that shows those treasonous leanings, now and for all the future. If the big one (earthquake) ever hits, I will look for Berkeley to refuse assistance from the military.

The City Council should be recalled or Impeached immediately. They have cost Berkley damages that will not soon be recovered. As a Berkeley resident, I was dismayed at my city council’s continued buckling in to the pressure of anti-military extremists who abound in the city. The members of the city council can doubt the wisdom of the American involvement in Iraq, but they shouldn’t support and subsidize the violation of the rights of people who wish to explore a career with the Marines and who have found their access to the recruting center blocked.

The young men and women who visit the recruiting center, which focuses on officer recruitment, are responsible adults. They don’t need a bunch of self-appointed mommies to make their life decisions for them.

People of this country want to be free, but some, (ie. Berkley), have no understanding what that means in terms of sacrifice on a daily or yearly basis. The troops that protect our country and the world lay the lives on the line everyday for the citizens of our and your communities. With freedom of speech, we also have people that are basically ignorant of what it takes to keep that freedom of speech.

By the act of revision, Berkeley showed that they made a huge mistake in calling the Marines intruders and asking them to leave — the next step that is so hard for them is a mere apology to our Marines, all service members, and our entire nation.

Last week my six year old cheated on a practice SAT test. Even though she promised never to do it again and her actions showed that she probably wouldn’t, she, on her own free will, made her way to her teacher and asked for her forgiveness. My six year old knows the value and necessity of an apology. Berkeley, surly you can match the humbleness and humanity of a six year old, right?

The outcry of people who say ‘peace not war’ is beyond me. I like to think that I am at least average intellect, but for the life of me I cannot understand where people like ‘Code Pink’ are coming from. I am not a fan of war and I will bet that our Marines, though trained to be peak performers during war, do not LIKE it either. However, sometimes peace comes with a price tag. If the people of Code Pink are not of the character necessary to maintain and provide peace, so be it. No one makes anyone sign up to be a Marine. They can hold their heads even higher knowing that they volunteered to protect and defend us.

I for one wish I had words that would convey the tiniest portion of my thankfulness to our military. I have known since I was a little girl and visited Arlington Cemetery what the United States as we know it and love it cost. I will forever be grateful to those who paid, are paying, or who are willing to pay if it comes down to that. For all our military does for us, an apology is not too much to ask. Apologize Berkeley and show children and adults everywhere what it means to be a decent human being.

I am appalled by your actions and attitudes towards our servicemen, and particularly the U.S. Marine Corps. I cannot fathom the hatred I have seen from your less than fair city towards these groups of brave men and women that allow you and yours the liberty to spew out your vitrolic

What Berkeley needs is one of the old riots like what was taking place in the late 60’s and 70’s and in turn they ask for military help to handle the situation. The military should ttell them that since you do not like us in you city, we will stay out and let you and your law enforcement do the best they can and then see what happens. The Berkley City council has taken it upon themselves to decide what the citizens of Berkley can do or not do. NO young man or women is forced into a recruiters office, it is an option as far as employment is concerned. And a very good option for those who choose to be in the military. Granted military life is not for everyone…but this Berkley City council has taken away their citizens right to freedom of choice!! And to say that the military is not welcomed in their town, shame on them. Who fought for all our rights and liberties? Who was willing to go knowing that they may not come back? Who gave their sons, brothers, husbands, and fathers…so that Americans can have the life that we all take for granted. The MILITARY!! Berkley City council you need to learn consideration for those you to not agree with, and respect for what they the military is willing to do, even for you.

I support those true Americans and groups that are defending our Marines and the recruiting office in Berkley, CA. Mayor Bates has simply attempted to confuse us under the guise of following “a majority of his constituants’ wishes”. And I beleive it was NOT a majority or his constituants and more likely a select few of his most influential financial donators. And to think this man was an Active Duty U.S. Army Officer at one point in his life. I wonder how fond his fellow soldiers are of him now. Berkeley has not just “forgot” its defenders, but it has outright disrespected them and told them to leave. All Federal funding should be pulled immediately.

I heard a man on the news one night talking about how the Federal funds that would be taken awa are supposed to go to kid’s lunches at school. He said “why would DeMint punish Berkeley’s children for the City Council does?” He is not punishing their children, but rather the City Council chose to act carelessly and recklessly in their motions. If anyone wants to blame someone for the City losing funding they can look at the clowns they voted into office.

City Council is the one making stupid decisions and causing consequences to be brought against the City. It’s called representative government, and if the peopel of Berkeley don’t like what is happening now they need to get this band of fools out of office and replace them with people who know how to manage a City and stop bowing to special interest groups like Code Pink.

The Berkley City Council should be ashamed of it’s actions, but I fear, however, they know no shame. How wonderful to be so foolish and so protected. The Marine Corps and it’s recruiters aren’t intimidated by a gaggle of bellicose women dressed in pink, or their political enablers, or by it’s global enemies for that matter. I have many thought about and opinions of the people of Berkley, but none can be put into print here. My son is from Waterbury, Ct. and enlisted in the Army 12 years ago and recently re-enlisted while on deployment in Afghanistan. What makes the people of Berkely think that their children are better than my son? What makes them think that it’s ok for my son to go into harms way and not their children too? Wether they support the war or not, the fact of the matter is that we are at war. If Americans can’t stand up to be counted by their own country, then they should leave the country, go somewhere else, and let people from other countries come here and support a way of life that they dream about but don’t have.
I also have faith that the children of Berkely who want to enlist in the Military, would go to another city or state and do so. I also imaging that a good many of the young men and women from Berkely are deeply disappointed in their parents and families.

Below is a copy of a letter I wrote to the mayor of Berkeley. I sent a copy to the City Council Members as well. While it is so important to voice our opinions on these blogs I would encourage all of you to write these people. It’s a reminder to them that we are here to stay…

Mayor Bates,

I am appalled at the recent assault on our military and specifically the US Marines. It is shameful that you would condone such behavior. By changing the terminology to say “We are not against the military, we are against war” is in itself a conflict of statement. If you claim to support our military, your actions betray you. A common declaration Berkeley avows is tolerance, yet, you’re attempting to deny our Marines to do their job. The job that secures your rights to freedom you don’t feel the military is entitled. If ever there was a double standard, Berkeley defines it so graphically.

Your city council members are under the misguided assumption that pro-American, pro-military people are stupid. The job of our military is to secure our safety and sometimes that means war. To have the freedoms we enjoy are worth fighting for and we have only the military to thank for that freedom. So, please save your politically correct psyco-babble for the liberal dolts.

I may not own a cooperation, or think I might make a huge financial impact solely by boycotting anything produced, sold or provided to or by your city, but I know a lot of people who do. I will make it my mission to tell, email and call everyone I know and ask for their joint efforts to support a boycott on Berkeley.

Remember, when you mess with the Marines, you mess with their moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends and the list goes on…I hope you get the picture. We are a family and I consider all Marines and their families mine as well.

FYI. It is our Marines who are first in and last out of a conflict. Instead of supporting those that lack character by attacking them you might consider thanking them for their service and your freedom to make the choice.

I think being that Berrkley doesn’t want the Marines( which are a federal entity) then they don’t need ANY federal funding for one year, even if they apologize, and indefinitely if they don’t. I served my country in the Marines so that the people of this nation would continue to have the freedoms that they do. Whether or not you agree with the current politics gives you NO right to disrespect that service.
And for those interested, if we don’t fight the terrorist over there then we WILL be fighting them here, something ‘code pink’ doesn’t understand, these terrorist will NOT talk peace, only domination. It is scary to me how many people belive what the mainstream media (CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, etc) put out, we are winning and the surge has worked, but we can’t pull out until finish. I like the comparision to an alley fight. The last thing the Marines want to do is fight, but they have been called on to protect this country from another 9-11. Have we forgotten how we felt on that day?
Berkley, do you want a dirty bomb set off by the terrorist in your neighbor hood? That’s what will happen if we quit fighting this war! That’s what the MARINES are protecting you from!! So get of your high horse and apologize to these brave men and women! And YES you DO need to apologize.

It is your first amendment right to freedom of speech. However, when a governmental unit does not support the US Military, I certainly feel that they should have the wear-with-all to visity the local veterans hospital and tell them that they do not support the US Marines or the US military.
I know they won’t have the guts to do that. It is much different to back stab in private than in public.

I most certainly agree with my senator…..Jim DeMint on his bill to stop all Federal funds going to Berkley or to anyother governmental unit not supporting the US Military.

Those folks need to realize that only two people/groups died for them……..Jesus Christ for their souls and US Military for their freedom!

The city council members and mayor should be impeached. I am surprised, with the ensuing outcry, that this has not been started, it should be. At once. Withhold federal monies and/or grants. Invite them to leave office, begin impeachment proceedings if possible.

I am, as I have always been, very proud of our Marines and all branches of our military. The men and women that serve us in this way have comitted to giving their very lives in protection of our freedom and our children’s futures. The Bible says that there is no greater love than for a man to lay down his life for a friend. It’s true.
As an American, I understand that war is ugly, tragic, heartwrenching and sometimes necessary. We would not be the America we are today if not for the battles bravely fought by our men and women in uniform.
But aside from all of that; regardless of how one feels about wars, both past and present, we must consider the America that we have today. In my America we are free. Free to do and say whatever we want. Free to go to school and learn to be whatever we please. Free to worship whomever, wherever and whenever we see fit.
That some would use this freedom to slander the very people that have sworn to protect it, makes me ill. I am grateful to all our troops that have lived and died to protect my children. They have paid the ultimate price so that we don’t have to.

The Berkely council should go to a country that also hates the USA.

It’s a disgrace that fellow Americans would talk about our military that way and to tell them they aren’t welcome. What happened to the Great Generation. We are turning into a bunch of wimps.

Last month my son in-law called me. He said [in his Texan jargon] “Dad, you asked me to call you when Natalie’s re-enlistment ceremony happens, listen up”. On my cell phone I heard my little corporal swear
her alligiance to our country and constitution. I then heard my son in-law [a former Marine himself] get a written commendation for being a good military spouse. The U.S.M.C. is the best thing that could have happened to my oldest daughter. Four kids and two grandkids into my life I find myself truly blest. My Dad
survived the “Blitz” in London In WWII. My Mom had just as rough a time in Birmingham. They brought us here in ‘68 [legally] with$200. At my 50′TH B-Day party, I looked at my and my wife’s great family and got goose bumps. What a lucky man,to be in the greatest nation on God’s earth with a family that knows what it takes to be “Real Americans”. God bless America and God Bless the U.S.M.C. Richard.

People need to stand behind what Move America Forward and others are doing as they speak for our military and protect the honor of our service men and women. Berkeley and others are attacking our men and women in uniform and this is not acceptable. Sign petitions and make donations!!!! You politicians and ‘citizens’ of the city of berzerkeley are simply nutso… A fence should be built around your ‘city’, with tickets sold to folks who want to view a very large quantity of idiots, as is done in zoos around the world. The revenue gained from the tickets could be used to fund the US Marines to stand guard on the area and make sure that your ‘people’ don’t get out and the drugs each of you are obviously on, don’t get in…

The Berkeley City Council has the right, granted by their election by the citizens of that city, to pass the type of resolution that has landed them in such a maelstrom of indignance from the rest of the country. They also have the right to regret and redress and I sincerely hope that they do but I fear that they are so insulated in their left coast ivory tower that it will not occur to them that they are so out of step with the rest of the nation. So let them exercise yet another right, the right to get along without assistance from the federal government in any way. Maybe close off all access to Interstate 80 through Berkeley to all non-essential local traffic. I-80, after all, was paid for with federal dollars and the Eisenhower Interstate System had a military purpose in mind when it was started.

As an American, I feel the traitors in Berkley are unwelcome iintruders in our country. They should leave immediately and go to a country where there are others like them, -perhaps Iran.

Previous comments have nailed down the opinion of the vast majority of Americans but might I add that while peace is a wonderful thing it comes at a price. As long as there are those who make every effort to kill not only Americans but all those who wish freedom of choice there will always be conflict.
Supporting our troops is more than cute bumper stickers, more than redundant phrases, it is the understanding they stand in harms way to allow you the right to drive your SUV and complain about gas prices, prevent your daughter from wearing a head to foot covering or be stoned to death, the right to vote for whom you please. All federal funding for the state of California should be discontinued until the Berkeley council makes a public apology. It is about time that the people of the military, who give the most in serving this great country, be given our thanks and all of our respect in the performance of their job, protecting our freedoms and our security. Our military personal give freely of them selves and endure great personal sacrifices in the excerise of their duties. The Mayor of Berkeley and the city council are an embarassment to every patriotic American. Who will they call upon when the rabid radical Muslims start indiscriminately killing Berkeley citizens? What do you call citizens of a society that enjoy the benefits, but contribute nothing to support the society?

I think it is long past due for Americans to stand up and support our troops.. Sad that those who have never served are given so much notice.

About time Americans became vocal about this. Having lived in Berkeley i can safely say it is a world unto itself and grounded it absurdity. People such as the Berkeley City Council are the reason the terrorist accomplished 9/11…..

There is no doubt that Berkeley represents the worst of cities in the U.S. in openly displaying its’ anti-american and anti-military ways. It hypocriticlally uses its free speech that was paid for by the many lives of our military men in defeating facism and dictatorial tirents who would have jailed them on a moments notice for the defamatory staements they make against our military and country on a regular basis. Our country can only remain strong through a strong military and a strong majority of people who continually will rally against the likes of what Berekeley offers the country, i.e., a rejection of all that is dear and what makes this country strong.

I just wanted to let you know that I can not believe that a US citizen would not allow a most important and respected group like the US military from posting an alternative for the students or people of their area like Berkeley.

If this is true that you are trying to stand in the way of allowing us to make sure our country is well equipped to defend itself, I think that is so dispicable. Please reconsidered your actions and allow the military do their job. Our future depends on it.

Without the men and women of the Military you folks in Berkeley would not even be allowed to have the freedoms you enjoy now. You should be honoring every single member of the Marine Corp that is there and pray they are successful in their recruitment efforts. How would Code Pink be able to defend you from a terrorist attack? It could happen and then where would you be? You should get your brains out of the single track they are on and learn that you aren’t as safe as you think. I am sure the terrorists are plotting some kind of attack on us and it could be there. You should be recalled – and may be if the few right thinking citizens of Berkeley do more than sit idly by.

My father served in the Army for 30 years. I served in the military for 16 years before I was medically retired. Both my brothers served 3 years each in the Army. That is over 50 years of service by one family. We have had tours in the South Pacific, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East. To watch what is happening in Berkeley is beyond pathetic. Many people say we fought for their right to protest in such a manner. My family did not sacrifice so these half wits could destroy the charactor of our military men and women. These people are the same ones that spit on our military members coming home from Vietnam. I some times wonder if we are fighting the wrong enemy.

It would be best for all parties concerned if your city and state would secede from the Union and declare yourselves an independent nation so we, the United States of America, could declare war and bomb you into the Stone age!

The most important thing that these people seem to keep forgetting is that there have been many, many, many military men and women DIE for the IDIOTS freedom of speech. How many of them would put their life on the line for their country? Absolutely NONE!!! Our military is what keeps giving us the freedoms that we do have. Can’t these idiots see that? Are they all to blind and selfish to realize the sacrifice these men and women make for them every day? I am totally appalled at the way our country is treating the military. It makes me sick every time I see some fool protesting against them. My husband was in the military, had 2 tours in Iraq. Ran over a land mine and almost didn’t come home. Hopefully someday these people will see the light and understand the sacrifice made for them to have the right to bash our military. I live in the Bay Area of California and we are stationed at Travis AFB. I have seen first-hand the sacrifices our military servicemen / servicewomen and their families make throughout my father’s 20 year career. They believe in this country and serve with courage and honor.

I wish the anti-war activists could find something more productive to do with their time and resources to serve others instead of shaming themselves and their community.

Perhaps they should take some time to be grateful for their freedoms and ponder why there haven’t been anymore 9-11 style attacks on this country.

My name is Rick Krebs, My wife and I, had gone to Berkeley Ca, to support are
heroes in the armed forces. Because of the Berkeley city council had sent a letter
to the Marine recruiting office, saying that the Marine’s where unwelcome intruders
and wanted them out of there city. Well the thing that gets me is that when we
got there it was some what quit, then the High school kids came, and caused trouble
with every one they could that was showing support for the Marine’s. I had heard
that the Teachers had brought the kids to the protest. I would like to know what
right do these teachers have to put these kids in harms way. Is this what these
teachers teach the kids in our schools? And if the parents of these kids signed
a permission slip for these kids to join the protest they are just as negligent
as the teachers. Do these teacher’s use these kids hoping that one of them would
get hurt so they can sue some one? My Wife and I along with two other Lady’s, we
where standing watching every thing and this group of 15 or 16-year-old girls came
up and started yelling at us. Telling us to leave their country? I have been in
this country for 54 years. I am not about to leave because of these misinformed
kids tell me this is not my country but is there’s. I was talking to one of the
veterans and she told me that one of the kids on there skateboard had swung his
skateboard at her and told her to go set some place ells, this is uncalled for to
do this to a person that served this country and be disrespected that way. I feel
that if the feds stop giving them the tax money they get and maybe the city of Bazerkeley
will stop and think. Yes they did rescind the letter to the Marine recruiting office,
but what about and apology? Don’t these Men and Women deserve that much? My Son

to go to the Middle East they might think twice about this country and the armed

The very idea of protesting against our military is outrageous. The military past and present deserve our utmost respect. They have fought many wars to keep our country safe and give even idiots like the Berkeley City Council members the right to protest. No one likes war, but sometimes it becomes necessary. As elected officials you, Mayor and Council should be ashamed of your position and concerning your desire to remove the recruiting office from your city. I expect that in the event of a large catastrophe in your town you would be the first to seek the help of the federal government and especially troops if they were needed. The actions by the Berkley City council reminds me of what happened to us during the Vietnam war. It sickens me that it is happening again. The troops are doing their job. All they want in return is a thank you. Obviously the city council do not thank them.

I am amazed that the Marine Corps even has a recruiting office in Berkeley. Perhaps there are some good Americans who live there, otherwise the office would have been closed, long before now.

To the city council, I say shame shame shame on you.

Boycott Berkeley!

If you are paying tuition for your kids at Berkeley–STOP! There are plenty of colleges that support our nation that would love your tuition payments.

If you drive through Berkeley, never get gasoline or buy from any store or fast food restaurant!

Write your Congressperson and the president. Tell them to stop giving federal funds to the city of Berkeley.

Eliminate all Congressional earmarks that are destined for Berkeley.

Research the businesses in Berkeley: write them but more importantly stop buying their products immediately.

Find out if Berkeley has a Chamber of Commerce. It can’t be too big as they certainly aren’t getting any help from the Mayor and the City Council. Write the Chamber of Commerce and call them. Especially boycott any business members on the Chamber of Commerce as they are supposed to represent business interests in Berkeley.

Do not attend any events in Berkeley. Your money fuels the anti-American sentiment in the Berkeley government.

There have been many a patriot from Berkeley that died for our country. These insensitive rulers of Berkeley do a great service to men and women that serve our country. Berkeley does not understand the word, “to serve.” These men and women are volunteering to serve their country–hey Berkeley leaders, the draft ended years ago; these brave patriots are serving their country; they are facing death–they don’t need cheap political comments from you.

I am a proud mother or twin sons, both in the military. One is a marine and my other son is in the Army. The Berkeley City Counsel should be ashamed of their actions. The freedom they have has been paid for by our service men and women throughout the history of our nation. My father and father in law both served in WW11. The city counsel has abused their freedoms. As we all know with the privledge of freedom also comes responsibility of which they have ignored. As I long to see and hear from my sons from overseas, Iraq and any other country that is part of the war on terror,my heart breaks each time one leaves. When I observe the actions of the city counsel it also breaks my heart, which by the way can only be broken so much. This also makes me angry. To think that they would kick out the marines to recruit other men and women. What are they thinking. Does anyone remember the draft? This is not the case. These are volunteers, they deserve our respect as well as support. I say, kick out the city counsel!!! Proud mother of two soldiers from Texas.

The Mayor and those on the city council owe a debt of thanks to the United States military for protecting their right to express their feelings. It’s a shame that their response is to disparage the courageous folks that insured their freedoms.

I was disgusted that Americans would behave this way, and disappointed that so many people are so forgetful of the price so many young men and women have paid to make it so that it is possible to disagree with our Government.

I saw video and photos of the so-called “peace activists” blockading public offices, which, in this American’s opinion does not constitute “peaceable assembly”. While there may have been a “petition” in process, Code Pink’s motivation was clearly directed more at gaining media exposure than at actually educating anyone. In fact, the despicable nature of their overt attempt at indoctrinating preteens – with little or no grasp on actual issue – into their fascist principles is an affront to those who put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect the freedoms guaranteed in this Great Nation.

As a Tampa resident, MacDill AFB is less than 1 mile from my home. I interact with Force Service personnel almost daily, and I find them to be the most honorable, civil and integral people around. They have “constituted” themselves as Americans – so much so that they are willing to VOLUNTEER to help America “secure the blessings of Liberty”.

While I believe that the fascism exhibited by Code Pink and Berkeley City Council could be considered a protected right under the Constitution, Code Pink and their buddies broke the law when they blockaded a public office and should be jailed – if not for treason, than at least for obstruction.

But there is another right guaranteed under the Constitution that they should observe – the right to leave if they don’t like it. There are many countries out there that do not give their citizens this right. At the end of the day, I don’t care who the President is, I don’t care which party is in power, all I care about is that piece of paper in Washington D.C. that says what it means to be American. If you wish to be an American, you swear an oath to follow those rules. If you choose not to do so, you should be prepared for the consequences.

It’s very ironic that they’re on the side of anarchy, which are the very ones who would put them up against the wall an execute them. The jihadists would behead them and the least the LEFTISTS would do is put them in concentration camps. But when you think about it, perhaps any of these fates are too good for them!

These people have had their brains sucked out of them at a very early age. They all represent an almost logical argument for euthanasia.

As the child of a disabled veteran and someone who sends letters and care packages to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan weekly, I want to register my strong disapproval for the anti-American activities of the Berkeley city council. It is one thing to have freedom to disagree (which is what members of our military fight for every single day). However, it is quite another thing to weigh those rights so much in favor of the Code Pink crowd and the anti-war activists who only want their side to be heard. This will never happen. I call for the city council to rescind that Free Parking space they’ve given the Code Pink harassers!!!!!!!!!! I will actively work to make my voice heard in Congress and in the way that I vote. If Federal money can be withheld, I hope that will be done.

Most of my family have served in the armed forces throughout the years and even though it was usually in peace time, there were huge sacrifices they made. There are some with disabilities for sure, however, others lost some family because the spouse couldn’t understand our need to support and defend our country. So remember, the sacrifice is great, let them know it was worth it.

Please keep up the hard work you have been doing to defend the honor of our military that has been so despicably abused by the Berkeley mayor and the city council. Are you sure we are the ones that are confused? Is it possible that you are misinformed? Part of your comment from above:

First, nobody in the Bush administration ever said Hussein was responsible for 9/11. Nobody ever said they actively colloborated in those attacks. Nobody even implied it, to my knowledge.

What has been said, and it is incontrovertible fact, is that there were high level contacts between Hussein’s regime and AQ dating back 10 years (at that time), as acknowledged by the 9/11 Commission and a host of terrorism experts.

Using 9/11 as an example of how vulnerable we (free societies) are to terrorist attacks is perfectly acceptable. Hussein’s regime was well known as a state sponsor of terrorism. Demands that he stop his support for terrorists were made in the security council resolutions that he consistently ignored for 13 years. (Read #s 678 and 1441.) If all that were not enough, Hussein did indeed publicly declare “jihad” against the US on two occasions. While it may be true that he was not much of a conventional threat (he couldn’t mass a standing army against us) , he was absolutely, positively, a threat as a terrorist sponsor. Do you understand that distinction? If not, please review the videos of 9/11. If bin Laden could pull that off with his relatively limited resources, imagine what Hussein could have done with his vast wealth. That is “reality”.

Next, nowhere near a million Iraqis have lost their lives in this conflict. You must be referring to the Lancet Study, which has been proven a fraud. (Google it)

Finally, this action against Hussein was both legally and morally justified. It was legally justified because of Hussein’s continued non-compliance with 17 security council resolutions over 13+ years.

It was morally justified for the same reason that Clinton’s bombing campaign against Serbia was justified; to stop the mass murder and genocide of a people by a brutal tyrant. That was “illegal” by the very same standards currently applied to Bush and co., but we don’t hear liberals slamming Clinton, do we? And…Melosevic was *zero* threat to the U.S. Funny that, eh? Or, perhaps you can tell us “the difference” between Hussein’s victims and those of Melosevic. Could it be that genocide/mass murder is intolerable in left-leaning Europe but a-ok in Iraq? How many of our allies in the region did Hussein attack? These are just some of the “differences” that you really need to look at.

One more thing – This nonsense about being against “recruitment procedures” is just an excuse. Most of these people from Code Pink, et al, would still be out there making fools of themselves even if all recruiters were angels. They (recruiters) have quotas to meet, so I’m sure some people have been deceived, at least a little bit. But this doesn’t mean it is done as a matter of policy. That’s another “difference” you might want to note.

What the Bezerkly City Council did makes any patriot’s blood curdle.

The real issue here is Code Pink(o) and their friends who have infiltrated the city council and have a controlling majority. Lets look at statements Code Pink(o) and their friends are making while protesting, both at the recruiting station and other places. Here are some of the comments and signs they use:

“The USA Deserved what happened on 9/11″
“We support the murder of US troops”
“American soldiers are murderers and baby killers”

These are not 17 year olds students trying to change the world. These are old loser hippies and professional students who wish nothing more then to upset other people. They live to antagonize good citizens and place camera people all over trying to get evidence of someone hurting their civil rights. Why you may ask. So they can take you to court with their jobless lawyer friends and sue you for lots of money to support their loafing around.

Take the time to read some of the anti-American sentiment they spread. This group may have started out as a women’s peace group but has become perverted by radical losers.

I did my 20 years in the military and support anyone’s right to freedom of speech. However I do not support it when it becomes personal attacks, restricts the rights of other citizens or comes at a financial cost to other citizens. Code Pink continues to trample on the rights of others and expect tax payer financial support.

I strongly recommend that anyone who reads this contact their politicians, local, state and federal to start banning these types of anti-American groups that trample the rights of other citizens. Personally I would be elated to see them stripped of their citizenship and deported to fun loving countries like Iran or North Korea

What Berkeley has done is a complete and total disgrace to Freedom of Speech. It only applies if it is their way of speaking. I hope Senator Demint can get the funding cancelled for those idiots.

Wonder if Tom Bates and the Berkely City Council will ever “get it”. Thanks to so many, including my father, who fought in WW II and those of my generation that have served in the military; we have been able to preserve our freedon and have given the opportunity for people like Bates and the Berkely City Council to have the right to make stupid statements.

I was there on the twelfth. I supported the Marines. One more thing, I would never recommend that anyone go to Berkeley for any reason including the collage. The people I met in that town are not the people I want my children to know and the people incharge were little better than childern.

I used to get together with 5 or 6 friends several times a year and drive to Berkley to shop and of course have lunch. We absolutly refuse to do business with businesses in a city that is so outrageous as to condem our troops. More people should refuse to shop and wake up the business people.

I am stunned that a city in the United States would consider the Marines, or any branch of the military “unwelcome intruders”. The terminology alone is an affront to all those brave, selfless and patriotic men and women who have risked and lost their very lives to protect and defend this country. I cannot the good and law abiding citizens of a city in this country could sit back and let their city officials run amock and besmear the reputations of our brave fighting men and women. The Berkley City Council needs to apologize immediately and get a clue. Andrew sounds like he can “compartmentalize” more than the situation with the City of Berkley. Uninviting or banning recruiters from the United States Marines from a United States city and fighting a war YOU don’t agree with is also two different things.

I live in a city where we love our Marines. They are precious to us. To see what the Marines are subjected to in Berkeley, makes me embarrassed to be a Californian. After 9/11 I was frightened for the rest of the country, but not for my beautiful city of San Clemente. I heard the Marines flying overhead and new they weren’t going to let anyone attack us. Too bad Berkeley, and San Francisco for that matter, doesn’t look at our brave men and women the same way.

The most disgusting thing about this Berkeley City Council is their hypocrisy. First, they condemn the military recruiters as cold blooded killers, duping the poor, ignorant in their city. BUT they hold themselves out as brilliant arbiters of protection for these ignorants among them. I thought Berkeley was a bastion of intelligence. If so, how can it be that their young are SO stupid as to be duped by evil recruiters who misrepresent a life of military service, which, YES, includes killing? Second, they scream that they deplore the murderous military, all the while promoting abortion on demand. Abortions have killed millions of Americans, but that’s okay, because a woman MUST have the right to choose. Well, so should the youth in ANY city in America, as to what they want to do with their lives. The hypocrisy is SO glaring and repugnant. Whether you support the war or not, we are there, and need, for the sake of those same military, to see it through to success. When they do, they can come home and serve on the border, stopping the invasion of illegal aliens that the left wing hypocrites ALSO support, in their hatred of the USA. Those who have killed ten times more Americans than have been killed in Iraq. Once again, that’s okay because Liberal lunatics say so, right? Just WHO are they trying to dupe, in this repulsive scenario?

I think the Berkeley City Council is behaving and thinking disgracefully. We are fortunate to have organizations like Move America Forward and others that are vigilant to the causes of freedom and work to keep American citizins aware of those groups that would have our precious culture and freedoms diminished and eliminated.

If and when the Marines leave Berkeley it will be a decision that is for the benefit of Corps and Country, not for Berkeley. The recruiters at Berkeley are enduring hard duty right now. As a former Marine Sergeant, I am proud that these young Marines are conducting themselves so professionally in the face of a domestic enemy. The members of the Berkeley City Council and the citizens of Berkeley should learn from their example.

When this batch of recruiters gets reassigned I’m sure they will want to take a long, hot shower to wash the Berkeley filth off.

Thanks for supporting our military. Often times good people don’t run for office because they don’t think they have the time and what we get is some really bad people in various political positions who make some dumb decisions. Maybe, next time around better people will take the time to run.

The mayor, the city council, city manager, police chief and fire chief of Berkeley have either greatly overstepped their bounds or have been derelict in their duties and should ALL be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

They have given aid and comfort to an organization (code pink) that has openly supported the terrorists who seek to kill as many Americans as they can.

It is the actions of the Liberal Left, such as the anti-military actions of the Berkeley City Council, which push me to being more and more conservative as I grow older.

I am appalled at the treatment of certain cities towards our military services. It is sickening when a great nation has cities that turns on its own people.

The entire city of Berkeley has profited from the efforts of our Service men and women over the years. UC Berkeley has received support from federal grants, and educational funds through service people attending the UC. Your city no doubt has received many government grants, subsidies and loans. With the exception of the one woman that expressed sincere regret at what the “spokes people for the citizens” did the rest of you have no principals, just moneygrubbers? You took back some of what you said to keep the money. Our government won’t do anything to those dishonoring our service people, like you, but they should withhold all grants and subsidies from the city of Berkeley for 100 years. We are all free to say what we think but must be accountable for the consequences of our actions. When will the moderates in Berkeley speak up?

The City of Berkeley’s blatant hypocracy is troubling at the very least. While proclaiming free speech, they deny that basic fundamental to the Marines. I can’t think of a more hypocritical approach than that.

I used to be an independent voter, but I’m changing my vote to conservative this time around. The chances of me voting GOP has definately grown because of this blatant refusal to help the defenders of our nation do the duty they are called to do.

This country is in deep trouble when so many citizens fail to distinguish the lack of difference between a soldier and what he does. A soldier is used to prevent an enemy from committing death and destruction unto a group of people. From Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) the definition of support is to:

I don’t see that the Berkley City Council (or code pink for that matter) is doing any of the above; they seem to be doing the polar opposite. “I support the troops, but deplore the recruiting system” or any of the oft heard phrases of the same ilk are but platitudes. I truly believe the only way that those who use these trite statements would actually “support the troops” would be to support their going AWOL and defecting.

I know that this is off the point of the blog replies, but I feel that someone needs to answer a dissenting post. It is incredible to me that the powers that be in Berkeley made such an insidious, heinous stand against our men and women in the miltary in general and specifically the US Marines. They should rename Berkeley “The Peoples Republic of Berkeley.” Their actions constitute treason in my mind, and I would hope that they lose all federal funding.

The Berkley City council should be ashamed of themselves. Your “freedoms” have come with a price over the years. Without the military we would not be the great nation that we are. Our son is a United States Marine and has done three tours in Iraq. How do you think it makes us feel as parents to have people in the United States call our men “intruders” and tell us they are “unwanted” in their own country? How do you think it makes those parents or husbands and wives or loved ones who have lost someone in the war to tell them their brave warrior was unwanted in this country. It’s hard to even imagine the hurt that those people feel. I know how hurt it makes me feel to think my son hears the comments being made. I feel these people are traitors in the truest sense. You could not go to another country and say those kinds of things without grave consequences. Only in America because our men and women have fought for the freedom of speech so these things can be said….even said AGAINST them because they have died for that freedom….can these people say such things. I think it would be great to gather up the citizens of Berkley and send them over to Iraq. Let the MARINES and other branches of service folks come out for r&r while Berkleys citizens fight the war. I think it is utterly deplorable for the City of Berkley to have made these comments in the first place. Also, it is an even larger slap in the face to those who serve that they have not retracted that treasonous resolution. I whole-heartedly agree with Sen. DeMint of South Carolina’s draft to rescind any federal funding to the City of Berkley. They should not receive even a fraction of a penny for their horrendous actions. What happened to patriotism? I retired from the US Army after 20 years in 1996. My Dad is a 20 year Airforce retiree that served in Korea and Vietnam. One of my sons has about 9 years in the Army as an Infantry Airborn Ranger and has been in Iraq two times and Afganistan once and should be back in Iraq by September. One of my daughters in law is a Army Finance officer and has been in Afganistan once and is presentlly in Kewait. I never served in the Marine Corp but I have another daughter in law that has and I have other friends that have and are serving and they are the bravest people that I know. As you can see my wife an I are in full support of our millitary and will back them up in any way that is needed. You Want a be hippies from the 60’s never got past the Vietnam war protest. You were the people that stood in the San Fransico airport and spit at on the Military members as they returned from Vietnam and called them baby killers. That was a very sick action to take ageanst our military and you are still doing it by telling the Marines that they need to leave the city of Berekely. If it were not for the Marines we would all be speaking Japanese after the bombing of Peral Harbor and the taking of two Islands comming down the Aleutian chain in Alaska. You should be ashaimed of your selves and submit your resignations with a full appoligy to the Marines and your city and th United States.

To the Mayor, City Council, Citizens, and Students of Berkely, CA:

For 233 years, the men and women of the United State Marine Corps and other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, have defended and upheld the Articles of “The Declaration of Independence” and our Constitution. And, I might add here, that at no time have military salaries and allowances ever come close to being equitable to their civilian counterparts. Military personnel are on call 24 hours daily, seven days, weekly and 365 days a year, but base pay for a young man or woman entering the military is less than minimum wage, compared to their salaried or hourly counterparts.

The rights and privileges military personnel extend to political, religious, educational and economic freedoms which citizens, like yourself, take for granted and often abuse. Many years ago, California legislators joined with a majority of other congresspeople and senators to pass a law, stating that the federal government had the right to withdraw federal funding and support to any agency, municipality and academic institution that denied the right of access to federal personnel engaged in the act of educating or recruiting qualified personnel for employment with the federal government.

Many states in our country have concurring laws. Be that as it may, while in violation of federal law, your actions are not only an embarassment to this country but are denying recruiters and civilians their own livelihoods and freedom of choice.

You are denying recruiters their first amendment rights, among others. But, moreover, in these economically troubled times you are denying students a right to seek employment opportunities and training, that may not be available to them. You are denying students the opportunities for scholarship programs that can–in some cases–equal almost $100,000. in real cash and benefits, by denying recruiters access to your town. You have cast our military personnel in a heinous image, which amounts to being defamatory and libelous. Moreover, by being one-sided, you have violated the very precepts that our Constitution and Declaration of Independence were founded upon.

You have denied an equal voice to military personnel, who by their very presence is an example of the sacrifices made by people whose moral and ethical choices place them far above the paltry contributions you have made to keep our Republic a strong, independent nation “of the people, by the people and for the people.” Military personnel may not always be perfect, but in the overall scheme of things, they represent the best this nation has to offer regarding moral, ethical and, yes, the lawful representation of what our country stands for…”to support and defend the “Constitution of the United States against all enemies…foreign and domestic.”

I can think of a number of solutions to the atrocious wrong-headedness acted upon in Berkely”

1. Rescind your actions and apologize
2. That the Governor of California and the Federal Government withdraw all public funding to your town.
3. That the Federal Government withdraw all funds to the University of California Campus in your “berg.”
4. Or, if you and your citizens/students believe yourselves right:

a. refuse all state and federal public funding
b. apply for secession, and try to support your own economy as a separate nation
c. disavow the protection of state and federal law enforcement
d. disavow the protection our service personnel provide (this would include, FEMA, the national guard, reserve or active military support in times of crisis and natural disasters)
e. disavow the protection and rights afforded your hamlet under the U.S. Constitution and Federal and State Laws, which you are so blatantly defying and ignoring

Your actions are hypocritical at the least and thoroughly ungrateful and thoughtless, at best. It is indicative of the generations who feel they are “entitled” to all they desire, without earning or deserving the freedoms, rights and benefits they enjoy. Not everyone has the fortitude to serve in our Armed Forces and not everyone is suited, but the freedom of choice is something that should be afforded to all young men and women, of good conscience, and not to be denied by bureaucrats and academics who are unwilling or unsuited to face the realities of this world.

As a former Marine Infantryman who was afforded the opportunity to become a photojournalist and broadcast professional, I can say that young people today have more opportunities in the military, than most colleges and municipalities offer. Your actions are a travesty and I can only say: What goes around, comes around. I can only hope your heinous activities and political machinations will give you(and the constituency that supported you) reason to feel shame and despair for your hurtful actions. I can imagine how Al-Jazeera and other international media outlets are reporting your actions.

It saddens me to know how my father suffered from being shot during the Normandy Beach Invasion, fought in the Korean war, and served in Viet Nam 3 times where again he was shot and traveled for three days using pungi sticks as a brace for his leg and he did it all for you and me.
These men and women risk life and limb to keep us safe and Berkley won’t allow them in their city
in order to sign new recruits? Why? They don’t bother anyone so why are you doing this? Are you saying that anything to do with the military is low-class and evil? These wonderful men and women are ready to die for you sir! Think about it. My son and daughter served in the military. When they were done with their tours of duty they used the college fund that the military offers and received their respective Bachelor Degrees. Without the military they probably would not have been able to afford college right away. Please tell us why you think the military recruiting in Berkeley is bad. As far as I know, Berkeley would expect the military to protect them if we are attacked by another country…right? Please sir, explain to me why the military is considered second class to you?

Perhaps if terrorism came to Berkely and affected this directly the Berkely council would not be so against the Military. However, thanks to the men and women who serve our military and protect us..all of us… fighting against terrorism… this horrible thing has thankfully, not happened again since 9/11. Would you prefer… if the military said, ok, let all planes and terriorst into Berkely.. they can take it from here, they don’t want our help. It is hard to believe after 9-11 a community or any individual would have anything but the deepest respect for our troops. Some people just don’t get it, freedom comes from the sacrifices of the military. The way I see it, if you insult the military like Berkeley has, you come up short on patriotism and should come up short on government funding. Berkeley, you are a little bit scary.

Our military needs our support now more than ever. How crazy is it to expect to enjoy the many freedoms we have in this country if we don’t have anyone willing to stand up and fight for them. I am a vietnam era veteran. I recall the way the troops were treated by air-head lefties during these times. After Desert Strorm, I though we as a nation had grown and learned that the troops are not policy makers–only people following orders. It does not surprize me that the city leaders in “Bizzerkly” are still in a drug-like induced haze. I hope that California Legislators and the US congress hold back funding to the community of Berkeley.. However, I realize that the Democratic contolled California State Legislature and the Democratic controlled US House and Senate, will most likely “increase” funding to Bizzerkly–citing their agreement with the stand taken by the council.

All federal funding to Berkeley and other areas of the country that do not support any military recruiting center, should be stopped. I realize this if wishful thinking, our government is incapable of stopping any kind of spending, even under these disturbing circumstances.

Are there no “real Americans” in Berkeley? I did hear a few speak out against the Berkeley city council but there should be many more like Laurie of San Diego and Kelly of San Clemente. The silent mojority are finally being pushed into action. We are proud of our soldiers and take personally the abuse they have suffered.

The city of Berkley police dept.and especially the Chief of Police should be ashamed for doing nothing when portesters were blocking the door way to a government place of business. That is a direct violation of the law. A police dept. representative stated when asked”we are remaining neutral”. I could not believe it.

I want to express my thoughts on Berkeley California. I think we as true Americans need to just write them off as part of the United States. They need to be sent to Mexico are better yet Iran. Our wonderful men and women in foreign lands working to keep us here at home safe need to have our prayers and good thought and wishes. My father fought in WWI, one brother in WWII, and two brothers in the Korean War. I am very proud that they served our Country well, and will always thank God for our freedom here. Back in the late 1960’s my family would watch the evening news and once a week the number of Americans killed in Vietnam were mentioned. Footage of action in Vietnam and of war protesters appeared just about every evening. We sat quietly and didn’t say a word.We all knew that it was just a matter of time before I received my draft notice. You see,my father was a prisoner of war. He was captured in Italy and marched five hundred miles into Germany where he remained a prisoner for nineteen months. His younger brother served as a combat medic in the Pacific, and his youngest brother was wounded in France and was crippled for life. He was confined to a wheel chair. Those are the reasons my parents didn’t discuss the Vietnam War. They knew that there was an excellent chance that I would be going to Vietnam. Well, I was drafted and sent to Vietnam where I served as a grunt. Before and after my time in Vietnam whenever I was in uniform I was cursed and called terrible names at all the airports by a few people. The Berkeley City Council and the members of code pink( no need to capitalize their organization’s name) remind me of all the individuals I encountered that had no respect for me, but more importantly, had no respect for my uniform which to me represented my country. God bless our servicemen and women.

I live close to Berkley and my husband is a US Army Recruiter. And the one thing I would tell the Mayor is our Military Recruiters do no force a single soul to join any branch of the Military. They are there to give information and to do the paperwork to enlist a person who wishes to be in our US Military. He should get all of his facts before he and the city council decide on issues.

My oldest son is proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps and when I observed the actions of this city council I felt it was a slap in the face to every Marine past, present and future.
Your actions were repulsive and insulting to every military family who’s sons, daughters, husbands, wifes, sisters and brothers are putting their lives on the line everyday.

If Berkeley were a private community (such as a senior citizen community), then I could see how Berkeley could decide whether or not to accept certain businesses or organizations within its borders. You do owe the USMC an apology for your public discrimination. To dislike an individual because of their beliefs and choice of career may be ok while in your own home but to do so utilizing public funds (including MY taxes) is unacceptable. If you REALLY dislike the Federal Government and all of its branches, then step up to the plate. Do NOT take federal funding, do NOT allow any of your citizens to go to college utilizing federal grants, do NOT accept any federal funds for special projects, food for students, programs for the underprivileged…why? Because this is the SAME federal government that finds nobility and honor in the public defense of our country as well as coming to the aid of others through the use of a military system.

I am so disheartened to learn of the Berkeley City Council’s actions against the Marine Recruiting Station and our young marines doing their job. My husband and I are both retired from the Navy and our daughter is currently proudly serving in the Navy also at the young age of nineteen. She wanted to serve her country. I can’t believe that our marines have been treated with such disrespect when they put their lives on the line everyday just by putting on their uniforms. My heart goes out to all of the young men and women serving on active duty or in the reserve forces today! Please do something to reverse the damage and unjust that has been done here! These service men and women should be applauded for their service NOT ridiculed! I am embarrassed by the actions of the City Council who are sworn to serve the public. They are the reason we have the rights we do have. Please respect the rights of these servicemen and women to make their own choices.

At the present time I am 100% disabled or I would be out in Berkley or anyone place that says the Marines or any of our Military are not wanted or should not be there. This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. What would they do without the Military. Right now they could be speaking any one of many different languages. Our Military is the best in the World and everyone should be standing up and applading these young people. Any one that acts the way these elected officials in Berkley have done should be charged with treason during time of war and let the chips fall where they may. They do not have the right to even call themselves Americans. No true American would do this while we have our Military in harms way.

Joining the Marine Corps was the best move they have ever made in their lives. Just the caliber of individuals they associated with was incredible-strong, straight, righteous, intelligent, sane, not to mention the discipline, code of honor and ethics, learning what being a productive member of the human race means. As long as a city is receiving federal revenue, the government has a right to have recuiting offices of any branch, in any city. If they are willing to forfit funds then o.k. The potential recruits are entering the offices on their own. No one has a right to block an entrance of any establishment. Do citizens have a right to block a fast food resturant to anyone considered obese? Of course not. How would Berkeley feel about a draft? It is because of our brave young men and women who want to serve their country and get benefits from it, is why there isn’t a draft! I would like to be protected by a volunteer than someone that was forced to serve!

My Marine son joined 6/07 and just finished his school and is now on his way to serve his country. I (we) are very proud of him! I wish people would unite and pray and support our troops! It is because of our military is why we can live the way we do in America!

As a Marine Corps Viet Nam vet, I find the action of these people disgusting ! And, then to say they support the troops is even more revolting. If you truly support the troops and are worried about casualties, you don’t undermine their mission and make the enemy more determined to kill them. by your misguided and selfish antics. I am an immigrant and watching this bashful approach by an institute that is suppose to be a higher learning institute is shameful. I am a proud American, and in my heart I know that the freedom that we all enjoy today is because of the brave men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to defend it. Opposition to our troops, stopping them from coming on to Berkley’s campus is not only shameful, but it is incomprehensible.
The very men and women that you – “Berkley” are saying “not welcome” to are the ones guaranteeing you this freedom to express your patty opinion. In this age and time, when America is the only hope for a free world, you disgust me with your attitude toward our troops. Get some sense, what message are you sending to all the young people? what message are you sending to the rest of the world?

Berkely owes an apology to every service man and woman who have EVER served their country. If it were not for these brave men and women, the Berkely “mayor” and his minions wouldn’t be able to even voice their opinion of the war. While they are entitled to their opinion, they are not entitled to disrespect the people who put their lives on the line EVERY SINGLE DAY to protect their right to free speech. I am ashamed for them — and even more so for the “Code Pink” lunatics. It is appalling that Code Pink has a parking space set aside for them ANYWHERE in this country — much less at the city council offices. They certainly should not EVER have the right to demonstrate at the recruiting centers. It is appalling that the Move On America group was under more stringent supervision than these pathetic losers who verbally attack those who are serving this country. It is sad to find that the Berkeley City Council has such little regard for the honor and sacirfice that our brave men and women in uniform are making for this country and freedom around the world. The Marines do a lot more than fight in Iraq & Afghanistan. They are at the ready to serve whenever called including helping with humanity aid during the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They help to evucuate American from Lebannon in 2006. They served this country with honor whenever and wherever called. The Marines have protected this country for over 200 years without the support of the Berkeley City Council. I guess they don’t need it but are due it.

Remember the disrespect shouwn to our wonderful Vietman Veterans and how much time it took to heal the country after the war. And to heal the wounded hearts of the Vietnam Veterans. Let us learn for that painful time in our history. United we Stand.

I believe that the Berkeley City Council has come about as close to treason as you can come with thier comments. I think the US Government should withhold every cent that is legally possible to withhold from them Berkeley has always been on the radical left and now they as city officals have gone to far.

I see a lot of comments on how everyone supports the troops. But what are you really doing to show that support? Remember, they can’t see that magnet on your bumper. Google troop support, then go DO something!!

I am retired military, having served in both the U.S. Army and Navy. Words cannot accurately describe the intense disdain that I have for Berkeley. Not just the mayor and city council, but all the residents of the City of Berkeley that support their city government.
These people simply do not deserve the freedoms that they enjoy BECAUSE of the U.S. Marines and the other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. They may rate those freedoms because, in a loose sense of the word, they are Americans.
And, this mayor, was an officer in the Army Reserve. I guess he must have forgotten what it is like to serve his country.

Pull all Federal earmarks to Berkeley!!! The very people that they condemn are the ones that keep their freedom of speech!! If earmarks are not pulled then I say that we should not help that city out in times of crisis!!

This is so sad that something like this would take place in America. I for one have been talking to veterans and families I can get in touch with. The theme I am championing is “If our elected officials won’t listen to the people, then vote them out”. I also have told most anybody that will listen. It doesn’t matter, Dem or Rep. If they are incumbents, most likely they need to be replaced.

As a naval officer that has been blessed to serve this great country for 8 years, this issue has angered me from the first time I heard of it. I’m just grateful that it has pulled so many patriots together to refute the disgraceful actions of the Berkeley City Council. While I respect their right to have their own opinion and beliefs, the idea of using a public office to harass and attempt to influence others against the people who serve and are in NO WAY the policy makers is a gross misuse of their position. Blaming any member or even the services themselves is an incredible display of ignorance, especially from politicians.

The last I checked, we had an all voluntary service. So the idea that they don’t want the Marines there to recruit their youth to serve, must somehow mean that they don’t believe that their youth are capable of making an educated choice. Perhaps they should re-evaluate the quality of the education they’re providing. Maybe they’re afraid that words like HONOR, COURAGE, COMMITMENT, and ALWAYS FAITHFUL have worked their way into the students vocabulary. Wouldn’t that be a shame? If everyone in their community shared their disgraceful opinion and cowardly beliefs, there could be recruiters on every street corner and it simply wouldn’t matter. The fact that they have put up such a fight against this recruiting station gives me hope that there may be citizens in Berkeley that believe in the core values that might save this country.

I thank everyone that has written, blogged and taken action-proving that comments made in this fashion will not be tolerated in this country!!! I know it’s a pipe dream, but nothing would serve this city better than the wake up call of losing federal dollars.

We, the undersigned condemn the Berkeley City Council’s treasonous attack on US Marine Recruiters stationed in their city. We ask that Congress cut off funds from any and all municipal entity within the confines of the city of Berkeley, California, until such time as the city council withdraws it’s action.

The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and “if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests.”

The measure passed last week by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law, focusing on the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

In a separate item, the council voted, also 8-1, to give the Marxist protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

I have friends who did not want their children to go to college in Berkeley area even though large amount of scholarship was offerred because of the kind of people they have there. What they did to the Marine recruiters was what the enemy of this Nation do. The City Council Memebers should be removed from their positions, at least. When I was in Vietnam at LZ Sally in 1968 I noticed that a stack of the Berkeley Barb would mysteriously appear in our company area. When I first noticed it I of course went to read it to see what it was. Realizing what a filthy far-left wing rag it was and the purpose of bringing them to our area was to undermine the morale of all of us, I took it upon myself to take the Barb over to our latrine and cut it up into sections for back up toilet paper. Now what is happening here today far more outrageous then what people in Berkeley did back then. I think that an economic boycott is in order. Hit Berkeley where it hurts the most, in the pocketbook.

Berkeley and Code Pink are doing everything they criticise others of doing. The council has given a public space to the Dr Suess rejects that is paid for by the taxpayers. Then they complain about tax dollars being wasted? People can’t travel on public sidewalks or do business in the area without having to deal with these old women and their bizarre actions. When the area is abandoned, do they expect to rent out all these commercial offices and stores to the ladies? If the government is the cause of economic problems, then Code Pink and their supporters are the cause of loss of income to the business people in the area. Who are they to dictate to the young people who want to go into the recruiting office? They deny them freedom of choice and their actions deny freedom of speech to anyone not agreeing with them. They are what they condemn.They should look in the mirror.
They are not liberals. They are in a class of their own and would dictate how the majority in the country should live and believe. I don’t want to pay for their street theater and think DeMint is 100% correct in proposing federal funding be taken from Berkeley. Let the Code Pink supporters on the city council support them financially too. While they’re at it, they should pay public works rental for the give away parking space and compensate all businesses in the area.

I daresay that any one of them would lay down his life to save any member of the Berkeley City Council if they were being attacked by a local Al Qaeda cell.

It is an absolute fact that if our present enemies (Islamic militants) prevail, the Berkeley City Council as well as those of us who would voice our opinions, will lose our heads.

You people want to kick the Marines out of Berkley. What you people do not realize is the Marines keep all of us free in the country for all of us to have the freedom to say what we want. As appalling as your comments are, I support your right to say them forever. God forbid our country is ever invaded, but if we are, you will be very thankful for these Marines.

Our son graduated from the US Naval Academy with a degree in Systems Engineering, and has a masters in Nuclear Engineering. Our daughter graduated with a degree in Chemistry from SPU, with an Air Force ROTC scholarship. They both are officers, with good jobs. They are continuing to have more and more education. This is a win win for young people. The military provides great educations, provides good paying jobs, and when they decide to separate, they have great private sector jobs. That is the message the Marine Recruiters are explaining to the young people.

You may not choose to have your children participate with the Marines, and that is your choice. Many other families see the great opportunity and decide to join. Your comments are extremely disrespectful to all our current military, and the retired military. These troops have, or are currently putting their lives on the line to defend our country. They deserve the respect of the entire nation, even you people out there in Berkeley. You owe the Marines an apology.

As a former U.S. Marine who served this beloved country during the Viet-Nam era, it sickens me to see how these lop-eared; buck-tooth; alligator-chomping; Bohemian fish-eyed worms could possibly want the Marine’s to shut up and move out … so, here’s what I seriously believe the Pentagon should do, as it’s what I would do immediately if I were in charge:

1. Pull all of the Marine’s and all other military out of the area and relocate them to areas who appreciate the military.

2. Since the military pumps BILLIONS of dollars into their local economy, jerk every penny away from their economy.

3. If a natural disaster, such as an earthquake should occur after the military has been removed, do NOT send in any of the U.S. Military to assist in any type of rescue and / or help in any way or fashion.

Since they hate the U.S. Military, they damn well don’t deserve any Federal Gov’t. help / assistance should any disaster hit the area.

Code Pink has to have the worlds most down trodden and more likely then not welfare recipients to have so much time on their hands to spew hate. The burning of our flag only to further infuriate our troops and our veterans sickens me. Have you ever thought what you are doing to the children of these brave men and women? You only stand for communism and hate. You spew filth on your signs and your ware.

I watched U-Tube as you blocked entry into the recruiting office while your police remained neutral? Your message is loud and clear and so is ours as we to have the right to freedom of speech. It is truly shameful for Berkley and other cities to villify the very ones who protect their civil rights to be hateful!! My husband served for 26 years in the ASAF, we have 3 sons in the military (USN, USAF, and USMC). To see anyone intentionallly and blatantly work against this country’s military members angers me beyond words! As far as my family is concerned, if anyone doesn’t like this country, or the people who protect it, they should leave immediately.

To many Americans, especially those of us born of immigrant families, you are an American Success Story. Your movies have protrayed you as a great American hero in many of your roles. In fact, military personnel find your movies highly motivating and I cannot think of any movie of yours, that played on, on base theaters that didn’t play to a packed house.

Now is the time to truly be a hero and a civic activist, rather than stand by let the “girly-men” or whatever in the City Council of Berkely to perpetuate the misdeeds against military in their hamlet. Besides taking a stand for what is right, I think you should be consulting your State’s Attorney and economic advisors to fully understand the ramifications of Berkely’s actions in terms of monetary loss to the economy…not only for Berkely, but in terms of the whole state. The State of California is one of the largest beneficiaries of military salaries, federal contracts, education funds and research grants to its schools. Public Relations-wise, your Visitor’s and Tourism industry may see a decline as well.

As a Public Affairs Specialist with nearly nine years of assignments in California, I can attest to the thousands of veterans who hold reunions and conferences in your state. Millions of service personnel have lived or pass through your state over the years. And, while they may not vote as residents, they vote with dollars that feed California’s economy. If your State Attorney’s office is worth it’s salary, they will indeed find that the Federal Government has every right to withhold any appropriations that are earmarked for Berkely and the University of California campus in that town. The city council is violating a federal law that California legislators supported to help ensure the success of our “All-Volunteer Forces” and the discontinuance of the draft. Further, I believe California has an “Equal Access” Law that provides that any publicly funded campus that allows any agency or commercial interest (e.g. class ring vendors), has to provide equal access to federal or state representatives for the purpose of recruitment or education. Imagine Berkely extending a ban on state police recruiters. Would you stand by and not take action?

Your predecessors, to include Ronald Reagan, and Governors Brown, were quick to acknowledge the contributions the military makes to your adopted state and the role veterans play within the economy and political life of California. The City Council of Berkely has acted in a way that usurps the principles that this country and the State of California were founded on.

You have protrayed U.S. Military personnel in an heroic way. You have worn our uniform in your movies. You have portrayed an uncompromising, honest and courageous federal agent. In fact, your fame and fortune can be partially attributed to the loyalty of your fans, who include military personnel and the heroic figures you have personified.

So, the challenge is: Will you cast off the cloak of being a politician and take a stand as a Civic Activist and Hero? Will you stand by and let “Code Pink” and the City Council of Berkely violate the Constitutional Rights of military recruiters. Will you let those groups in Berkely violate Constitutional
Law and legislative statutes? Will you turn your back on the people who have supported and defended your rights to be the success you are, today? A canny politician would have legal experts descending on Berkley to make the politicians aware of the error of their ways. A canny politician would be working with the Recruiting Commands in your state, to help resolve these issues. A canny politician would be worried about national backlash. A canny politician would find a way to inform the people of Berkely how to impeach their officials.

A Hero and Civic Activist would do something to correct the travesty that is occuring in Berkely.

The question is, what are you? A panderer who will pussyfoot around the problem, or make concessions to mistaken, wrong-headed people, or will you live up to the image you have portrayed, both on the screen and in the political arena.

While I chose to serve my country differently than you have, you have the chance to serve your country and honor the military people who defend our freedoms. Take a stand and do something to help resolve the heinous activities supported by the Berkely City Council, The Mayor, and groups who would deny the same rights to our military recruiters that they themselves enjoy.

The citizens and city leaders of beserkley are a disgusting group of misfits. You should hide your heads in shame. I have more respect for pond scum. Why don’t you build a wall around the joke you call a city, so that we can deny your existence? Or, even better, fold up your city and just go elsewhere? How about Cuba??? You were wrong to treat our military with contempt during the Vietnam conflict and you have obviously not improved where good manners are concerned in the years since. If all Americans viewed the Marines and our other military branches as the Berkeley city council and Code Pink does, it would not be long before all of our freedoms were revoked by our conquerors.

I thank God for the US Marines and the brave men and women serving in all branches of our military. They are willing to risk their lives to defend our country and our freedom.

If Berkeley, CA was devastated by an earthquake or came under attack by terrorists, would the city council consider accepting assistance from the Marines? Or perhaps they could call Code Pink for assistance???

I will be supporting the troops anyway I can. I have never protested anything before. I will be protesting the unamerican anti-troops movement. Anywhere anytime and I’m sure I am not alone.

I firmly believe that many people are confusing support for our troops with support for political agendas. Having said that, if those in Berkley have truly confused the issues then they should let the nation and the Military know about it. I would also hope that the major network media pays as much attention to the indignant backlash to the Council and Code Pink as they did to this staged “event” in the first place.

Hoping to relive your glory days gone by but certainly not forgotten by those of us who defended your way of life in the Kennedy/Johnson War. In your ignorance you disgust me. Don’t you understand that the Marines are civil servants doing a job demanded by their elected government. That government was elected by you and me. UCBerkeley is such a great university but the town is such a toilet. Our son graduated in 2006 with a degree in ChemEngineering. We enjoy the football teams and university open house but the town sucks!

Go by “People’s” Park. They allow several hundred drunks and drug addicts to live there and rob the students and the community. When we tried to complain to the University that their school is not safe, they tried to pass it off as a “community” problem. I think people and the US Dept of Education need to be notified that the students are not safe. It is in the middle of three student housing complexes.

The city is a perfect laboratory of liberalism. This is what happens when we let liberals run things. One of the earmarks that Congress (yes, federal tax dollars) gives the city is “gourmet” school lunches catered by the most expensive restaurant in town. Perfect! We tax the working people so that these rich kids get federal subsidized “gourmet” lunches. Waste upon Waste!

Being rude to our Marines is the least of their problems. It is a pity that we don’t let the Marines practice their hand-to-hand combat techniques on these loathsome slugs. I would give money to see them give the fools a well needed “education.”

I will write my state legislators and ask them to change the name of the university to UC East Bay or something that is not connected to this disgrace.

I hope that one day that you or your loved ones do not need the Marines due to your sad actions to attempt to stop recruitment in such a fine California city. However, if your city does need the Marines, I’m sure we (old Marine) will be sure to help you anyway.

I recently wrote to the mayor of Berkeley, the following is a copy of that email. The response was a spin generated response letter claiming what patroit he is and how their actions in regards to the code pink Nit-Wits was one that could be requested by anyone. It looks as if that same letter went out to quite a few people . Here’s my letter.
Dear Mayor Bates
It is my understanding that the United States Armed Forces are not welcome in the City of Berkeley. In the past, your fair City has lent an ear to some far left policy that has left you and the city council looking pretty arrogant and the truth be told, most of America thinks you are no more than pseudo-intellectual kook’s. I ,on the other hand, think your attitude is dangerous to the men & women who protect this country every day. If you think what you do is of no consequence, you are wrong. Terrorists wait with baited breath to hear the kind of thing coming out of your city, and use it to demoralize and propagandize troop’s and hold you up as their evidence. In the not so distant past, comments the likes of which are attributed to you, would be looked at as seditious, and would be dealt with severely. Perhaps your city could sever it’s ties with the US Government and strike out on your own, until then, you and your city council need to tone down the rhetoric and support the nation that gives you the freedom to say the things you have, and me the right to disagree.

These “Anti-War”, “Anti-Military” groups survive in a bubble, a bubble were logic is null, where true ideas, debate, and thoughts they don’t believe in are void, a bubble protected by our troops Our troops who fight for what they believe in, for what they oppose, and for our God given right, and they fight for all of US, even if some of you hate them.

The Berkeley Town Council should publicly apologize to the Marines for their rudeness, and insulting declaration in the name of their self righteous arrogance. I wonder if their actions may even be illegal since favoritism is being shown to Code Pink by giving that protest group a preferred parking space. I am sure that the Town Council would expect the Marines to defend them if their town was attacked by an enemy force. The Berkeley Town Council have brought shame upon themselves. To see who our enemies are, the Town Council needs only to look in a mirror. Michael Savage is right. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

I am one of the embarassed residents of Berkeley that attended the demonstration earlier this month and stood with the pro-marine side. I should also mention that I am a 56 year old conscientious objector who helped to peacefully and even quietly shut down the marine Recruiting center on Portland State campus in the late 60’s as a part of a demonstration we held in Portland that day. !0,000 attended which is huge for Portland at that time.

There was a draft at that time and I was in full support of those who burnt down local draft offices where records were kept on those who were forced to register. Remeber in those days computers weren’t used and so if the records were burned or lost the people were free from being drafted. No back up copies. I tell you this so you can picture my mind set and to distinquish myself from the blind patriot crowd.

If there was a draft today I would support your position. There is not a draft today however. Another thing that is different today from the Viet Nam era should have been noticed by you on 9-11. Remember that? More people were killed in that attack than Pearl Harbor.

Now I do not support the war in Iraq but only a bloody fool would deny the necessity of stopping Adolph and co. in WW3. And as I can see the justification for the war my father fought in I can see the necessity of a World Wider war on the terrorists and Islamofacists. It is not the fault of the Marine Corp. that we have a bungling and ill motivated character in the White House.

Now who do you think we could recruit to help our country in this war on terrorism? No more draft thankfully. I guess that leaves us with the Few and the Proud and those like them to protect us. You know those same people you FOOLISH INGRATE ASSES so arrogantly insulted by your words and deeds.

There used to be a military airplane on display in a park off 19th Avenue near the Shriner’s Hospital. They took that out, saying it had “hazardous chemical residues” and wasn’t safe for the children. That was after it had been sterilized before setting it up, and then weathered in the open sun and rain for 20 years. They just made up the “hazardous chemical residues” part and that was good enough to move that miltary symbol out. They succeeded at keeping the Blue Angels out of San Francisco for several years, though, thanks to someone, and I don’t know who, they gave us fantastic airshows the last 2 years. San Francisco “persuaded” the Army to give up the Presidio to friends of our 2 women Senators. The buildings that used to be officer’s quarters now belong to their friends and movie moguls. That’s just the beginning. For those who don’t know, Berkeley is a college town. All it produces is college graduates, and a lot of those go on to be psychologists in our elementary schools and political science majors who make government their career. It’s no wonder that our country has been taken over by anti-American psychos. Think about the qualifications of the people that run your schools and who are hired to work for your city. They might be Berekely graduates.

If an Australian council acted like the Berkeley council is they would be considered treacherous and un-Australian.

Whatever happened to Patriotism and Respect? If we did not have the brave men and women who protect this country, you would not be making any choices for your community. What is wrong with your City?

I am the proud father of an army soldier that has just returned from a 15 month deployment in Iraq. He willingly volunteered to put his life at risk to preserve the freedom and liberty that you and I enjoy every day. This has not been a cheap price to pay. He has carried out multiple soldiers who have paid the ultimate price for this freedom, including holding his best friend in his arms while watching his life expire.
When I learned of your decision to block the entrance of the Marine Corps recruiting office with a bunch of anti-American code-pink radicals, it made my blood boil! The Mayor and City Council should be ashamed as well as the community members that hold this view.
I am glad that our military members don’t lower themselves to this standard. They bleed and die to protect Berkeley the same as they do for other cities and communities who support their valiant efforts.

As a military retiree (I am a Vietnam veteran – three years in vietnam) it is appaling to me that in this time of war, we are seeing the kind of negativity that is going on against our military. I had to go through the pain of coming back to the states and the protests of the 60’s and 70’s. I would have thought that this time it would be different. Shame on these people!

As I understand it, there is some legislative action against Berkley that will cut off funding to some of this city’s projects. Maybe we can change their attitude through their pocketbook.

The mayor and council of Berkely, and by extension all residents that support this radical elected officials views against the USMC, sow the seeds for the ultimate destruction of the values founded in this Republic in 1776. The mayor and council, while touting their right to Freedom of Speech, ignore the fact that right also gives those of us that disagree equal right to be heard and debated and through their one sided view, do not seem to understand just how their right to freedom came about.

Actually, I’ve never seen or heard so many kooks gathered in one location acting under the guise of color of authority. A truly shameful city.

I too am fed up with the unlawfull actions of the Berkeley City Council. You are the ones creating the prolem, the Marine Corps Recruiting Center is headquartered lawfully in a government building and certainly has the constitutional right to recruit young men and women into our armed forces. You, of all people, Mayor Bates, should recognize this or else you certainly are a turncoat and traitor to the very armed forces in which you served as an officer, no less! I think the Berkeley Council’s despicable actions are furthermore traitorous because they give aid an comfort to our avowed enemies, the terrorists of the world. You are so quick to condem, but not quick to remember what happened on September 11th, 2001 when my good friend and fellow pilot, Charles “Chick” Burlingame lost his life when his plane was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. I lost a friend but our country now has lost the nerve and will to take the fight to them from the relative safety and wealth of our great nation. Remember, Mr. Mayor, our country was founded on the constitution and the President has the right to raise and maintain a standing army, which includes our brave men and women in the US Marine Corps. They have a proud tradition of being “first to fight” and have weathered more than your puny resolutions and still they battle on to preserve the rights of free speech that the Code Pinks so blatantly flaunt.

By giving aid and comfort to these seemingly crazy people who whouldn’t know a military person from a Berkeley student, you are in violation of our country’s laws and should pay the consequences. I promise you I will do everything in my power to have Federal sanctions levied against your town by communicating this to my congresspeople and supporting those in congress who would bring those sanctions. I hope and pray that the NC congressman’s bill passes to cut off all Federal funding to your city and I will furthermore personally, never spend “one more red cent” in your city nor will I allow any of my family to do so. I will work to have all my friends also boycott your businesses, schools, and even your beautiful Berkeley hills. You sir, are a disgrace to the uniform you once wore and your City Council members must certainly be crazy. We will put pressure on your city economically, which is apparently the only way to get Berkeley people to respond. I stand alongside all the true patriotic organizations like Move America Forward to thwart your city’s commerce and plans. Rescind your resolutions pointed against great Amrican institutions like the Marines and the Boy Scouts of America which your city has also disrespected and pressured to admit people who who would undermine the established bylaws of the Boy Scout charter.

Mr. Mayor, send an immediate apology to the Marine Corps Recruiting Center, to the American people for acting so irresponsibly and rescind the remaining propositions which try to destroy our right to raise and maintain our armed services. We will become a very loud and vociferous voice of reason in a city that is not only obnoxious, but seeks to operate in a Socialist/Communist philosophy. The City of Berkeley should be un-incorporated and the officials fired. The un-incorporated village then be governed by the next larger city. Like Point Loma in San Diego.

I call for the firing of all City leadership due to the lack of leadership. Also using the office for personal ends. Like a monarch.

My husband is deployed overseas in Iraq as we speak. My children have had it hard enough missing their daddy. But it is extremely hard on them when people make the anti-military remarks such as are done by these people who block the recruiting offices. This is hard on troops, the wives the parents, and the children. My husband is so insulted by these protests. It is so hard to fight for a country who only partially fights for you. However, Thankfully the military is chuck full of the kind of men and women who know how to do what is right even when it is not popular. They don not do it for an oscar or some reward. They do it for the safety of the future generations. thinking of others. what a concept. A concept that has completely slipped by those who are harassing our troops and insulting their families.

Those Marines will remain right there – in the faces of all the Berkeley seditionist city council – and will outlast all of them. “They will find their streets are guarded by – United States Marines!”

Remeber these are men and women who have outlasted the Anbar terrorists. Berkeley liberal wimps are nothing in comparison.

I think I am more appalled today than I was when it first came to light that the Common Council of Berkeley along with their Mayor thinks they can spit on our brothers and sisters who CHOSE to enter the military and get away with it without hearing from all of us who actually do support our TROOPS. To actually think that they have the right to force Americans from their city all the while harboring illegal aliens is so beyond rational thinking that I find I cannot come up with the appropriate words to express my disgust with my fellow “Americans”. How can they not see the danger they are putting our people in? How can you be so blind to put politics above people? I certainly hope that the more rational thinking Berkeley citizens, if there are any, will add their voices to the many who are saying STOP your nonsense, apologize.

I hope the City Council and most importantly the Mayor of Berkley will never need the assistance of our military, either because of an act of terrorism or a natural disaster. If one or the other should occur, we should all remind the good people of Berkley that they chose not to support our brave men and women and worked actively to oppose recruitment in their city. Therefore, they can solve their own problems and protect their own people (with sticks and stones).

Unfortunately Berkeley is the home of the Communist movement in America and their City Council is reprehensible. They owe an apology to our Marines and to the entire country for their actions.

They would probably prefer an Al Qaeda recruiting office in Berkeley. The federal government should stop any subsidies or payments currently going to this city.

Why should any of us spend a penny in your city? If you think you can do it on your own, go for it. I hope you have the resources to protect yourselves.

This is a disgrace to the integrity of our great country when the freedom of choice is snatched away from the young as if they have no brain of their own to choose whether or not they wish to join the American Armed Forces. Denying the military access to the students is unlawful and mean spirited. There is no justification in this action and you need to know that there is a core of Americans that will defend the freedoms we have been granted by the Constitution of the United States of America to the death if need be. We will not sit by and let higher educational institutions dictate American Policies or ignore them altogether, without taking action against them. This is America and we have the right to choose the way we want to go in life, not the instituions that educate us. Your job is to give an education, not to worry about social issues that have no relevence to that education. If your so worried about youth going to war, then get students involved in clubs and awarness groups that educate about the realistic nature of military life. This is a positive and legal way to demonstrate the colleges aversion to the military but through the students not with policies from within the college itself. If your truley for equipping the youth of our country you will give the the facts about both sides and then let them make an educated dission on their own as to what they will choose to do with there lives! What the Berkley City Council is doing is criminal. All of their Federal & State funding should be stopped immediately. It is one thing to express their opinion of the war, it is criminal to attack, demean, degrade or harass our military service men & women. First Berkley doesn’t want the draft, I can understand that, but now they don’t want recruiting stations. Well you can’t have your cake and eat it to. We have to have one or the other if we are to keep America free. They don’t seem to understand that we have only been around for a short 200 years and there is no guarantee that we will be around for another 200 if we don’t invest in a strong military. Our military men & women do not deserve this treatment, nor should it be tolerated.

To Andrew who posted on February 23rd……you state that there is a difference between being against the “recruiting system” and “being against the troops” as being two separate issues. Who do you think comprises the recruting system? Uh, the troops. Recruiters that you claim lies to young men and women ARE the troops. Secondly, have you ever talked to a recruiter? Have you ever talked to someone who has been recruited and asked what their opinion is of their recruiter? Have you ever asked them if that recruiter lied to them? The people who have been recruited that I have talked to claim just the opposite. As as being a supporter of the troops, you cannot be a supporter of these men and women if you do not support the mission in which they support and mission that they would give the ultimate sacrifice for. Anything else is nothing more than a facade.

Cut off federal dollars from their city, and no apology. They don’t deserve an apology or tax dollars that come from hard working Amercans in productive parts of our country. All Berkeley produces anyway, are college students that they teach to tear down America.

The next time your city or school hires someone, they need to make sure he or she was not trained by the anarchists to break America.

You have become one of the ultimate American Success stories. Some of your fan and constituency base, comes from your portrayals of U.S. military personnel and as an honest, uncompromising federal agent, upholding the laws of the land and the constitution. In all cases, you have been cast as an Heroic figure of the past, present and future.

Some of your staunchest fans have been the military. In fact, I cannot remember a time where our base theaters weren’t packed if one of your movies was showing.

Further, California’s economy has long been bolstered by military salaries and defense contracts. California’s education funds have also been fattened by federal impact funds transferred to your school systems for the numbers of dependent children who attend California’s public school systems. Taken one step forward, think of the millions that have been funneled into the University of California’s campuses for research projects and federal aide to students.

As a former Marine Public Affairs Specialist with nearly nine years of postings in California, I also know how many millions are brought into California’s economy by veterans groups holding reunions and conferences in your state, as well as professional military seminars that are regularly conducted in various areas of California. My last posting in California was as the Community Relations Chief at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, and I also coordinated visits to our West Coast facilities for civilians from all over the Western Recruiting Region. These visits brought millions of dollars to the SoCal economy from San Diego to Santa Ana.

I do not have to draw a picture for your economic advisors as to how much the military brings to your state and how all your constituents benefit. Having lived and worked in California during Governors Reagan and the Browns administrations, they made no bones about the economic impact the military made on your state. I might add that Marine Corps recruiting commands in your state also funnel millions into the economy from media advertising dollars to recruiters(and their families) patronizing local restaurants and stores.

As a self-portrayed heroic figure and a prime example of the “American Success Story”(I am a first generation America born of European Immigrants), I think it is time that you take a forceful role in resolving what has happened in Berkely. You should have representatives of the State Attorney’s office and Economics commission making the politicians and academics aware what they stand to lose with their abuse of power and position. Maybe you need to send a team that would include advisors from your convention and tourism offices, a spin doctor or two and state law enforcement to clean up the mess that has transpired in and around Berkely.

Further, consider the huge voting constituency of active duty, veterans and defense employees who are watching the drama in Berkely, unfold. That constituency tends to vote conservative(republican) and talk with their dollars as well as their votes. Something that will become more important as California legislative and gubernatorial elections get closer.

You and your wife(who was a canny journalist and savvey political analyst) may be thinking this will blow over, and your reasoning is not to interfere with the sovereignty of any singular municipality, but Berkely has become a national issue and has already seemed to have drawn itself into constitutional and legislative law violations. Moreover, if you read the blogs and editorials, you will see that California is being castigated and the economy will suffer, if all the threats to boycott Berkely and California goods and services are followed through on.

Perhaps, it is time for you to interfere with Berkely’s sovereignty and take action to clean up the travesty that has been perpetuated there. You have the power and influence to hold “earmarked” funds in abeyance. You have the right and the responsibility under California’s Constitution and your oath of citizenship, to take action. Will you live up to the Heroic figure you portray and as an example of an “American Success Story” or will you bow to political panderers and the “girly-men” and Code Pink. If they do not respect the rights of a Marine Sergeant or any military recruiter, than they do not deserve the respect that they claim to deserve under principles of the “Declaration of Independence or the “Constitution of the United States.”

So, your challenge is to be a hero and support and defend the Constitution and the rights of military personnel whose function is to educate and provide young men and women with choices and opportunities…which includes scholarships, skills training and other benefits. Not all recruits go into combat arms. No person is forced into military service in this country.

You have the power to clear up the mess in Berkely. Do you have the moral and ethical fortitude to do so?

Despicable behavior by the town of Berkeley and their elected officals, would someone please remind them that the U.S.A is defended by a volunteer Military. Not one single person was drafted into the branch that they serve. The idiots of Berkeley should respect the service of the individuals that are willing to lay down their lives in defense of our country, the GREATEST in the World, maybe Crude Pinko, can do some recruiting in the Middle East, of wait, women are possessions in the Middle East, Now sit down and shut up.

I have been very outraged about this. I’m a Navy veteran from 1981-1988 and then 1990-1991. I sent a letter of outrage to the Mayor of Bezerkeley, and to Senator Dick Durbin in protest of this issue. I also forwarded a request to move Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, and National Guard recruiters to the city.

The people of Berkeley should be happy that the armed forces were around when the big earthquake hit in the late 80’s. I will also never ever forget being called to Concord Naval Weapons Station in the early 80’s to stand guard and ward off angry protestors who were opposed to the weapons being stored there. The greatest majority of them were from that great institution of liberal learning University of California Berkeley. Not to mention the angst that existed from the San Fransisco and Oakland area towards military.

I suggest that other cities will take the Marines if only they’ll take all the law breaking illegal immigrants that they are in favor of having here, because they’re humans who have rights. What about the Marines rights?

There would be less of a need for recruiters if mandatory military service was required here like it is in most of the world.

I have written to Senator Dick Durbin requesting not only stopping any federal funding, but to insist that every branch of the service including the National Gueard open up offices.

Being stationed in the Sonoma Valley area in the 80’s (Usn 1981-1989 & 1990-1991) I can remember guarding Concord Naval Weapons Station protecting it from protestors who were mostly from University of California at Berkeley. They had disdain for the weapons loaded and stored there, as well as the military.

I’ll trade with Berkeley. I’ll take every recruiter available if they take all the illegal immigrants they are so enamored with protecting. This wouldn’t be an issue so much if every American was to serve a 2 year mandatory enlistment like most other countries do.

I am real proud of all those individuals and orgs that are supporting our recruiters and troops including Move America Forward, Free Republic, Gathering of Eagles, Vets for Freedom, Band of Mothers, Rolling Thunder, Eagles Up, Order of Purple Heart, Freedoms Watch, Patriot Riders and many others. I would like for a news reporter to stick a microphone in the face of Obama, Clinton and McCain and get their stance on Berkeley.

I’m all for manditory 3 year enlistment for able bodied Americans, starting with the members of Berkley city council and the mayor.
That way they can cry all they want, and for good reason, on 5 mile rucks and from the push up position.
Freedom is not free, costs a lot of sweat.
When hateful people seek to kill Americans, you pay in blood and tears.

Leave the city council alone!! An empty apology is worth absolutely nothing!! It’s like trying to make a child apologize when they don’t want to nor when they don’t mean it. If the city council apologized—it would not be sincere. These people stated how they believe and what they want done. I am the mother of an Air Force SSGT. She is just back from her third deployment in this war. I worry myself sick while she’s gone,and take care of my grandson for her, while hoping and praying he doesn’t become an orphan. I just want to take a moment to applaud the efforts of Move America Forward as well as every other organization involved. I was in the Army and am now an Army wife and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the support of our fellow Americans. I cheered out loud when I read that companies have started pulling their money out of Berkley investments. If the city counsel will not support the troops, then they cannot and should not expect support from those of us who appreciate the freedoms that our armed service won for us with their blood. My best guess is that in the last 30(?) years our United (not as much as we should be) States Armed forces hasa been an ALL VOLUNTEER force. From 1985-2005 I was a member of the Armed Forces OUT OF CHOICE. When my first enlistment expired I reenlisted OUT OF CHOICE. I WANTED to reenlist. Men and women are joining out of CHOICE, our armed forces is an ALL VOLUNTEER FORCE. I can fully understand USC Berkely’s bone of contention if there was a draft in progress. What’s the problem?

I wrote to the Berkeley City ‘Council’ and Code Pink and told them that our family and community is disgusted with their anti-American and suicidal pacifism.

I have urged both Senator McCain and Senator Kyl to support the Semper Fi Act of 2008. All loyal americans should get behind this effort to bring justice to our military men and women.

The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a companion bill in the House of Representatives and I will be writing my Representatives to suppor that one as well.

I strongly object to any of our tax dollars going to either the city of Berkeley or Berkeley University when they are such avid haters of our military men and women.
I have also asked them not to let Speaker Pelosi and her comrade Reid prevent this from coming to a vote. When it does come up I urged them to rally all of their fellow Republicans to make sure it passes.

I am outraged by the council’s attitude and lack of respect for those who serve and wish to serve in the all volunteer military. These brave men and women protect us with their lives and deserve nothing less than respect and the freedom they allow us to enjoy.

As a son of a Vietnam Vet I am sorely disappointed in what Code Pink and others are doing to our Military. They say they support our military but in all actually they don’t and never will.

Regardless of my own personnel feels of how wrong Berkley’s city councils actions are the fact remains that the citizens of Berkley have the constitutional right to protest the recruiters office being there, a point that must be given to the city of Berkley. What is sad though is that it’s the service members that protect that constitutional right for the city of Berkley and this is how they are treated in return. On the other side of the story is that the constitutional rights of the citizens who want the recruiter office to be there are being trampled on. For the sense of reason and fairness to both sides a compromise should be reached. Now if that can not be done then the state of California should act on the issue and tell the Berkley city council to go to hell and post National guard outside the recruiters office on a 24 hour rotation with humvee’s and guard posts at each corner of the building until further notice to remind them that freedoms are not “free” and just how good they got it.

The city council should be run out of town and all military suport taken away from Berk. and all money from the gov.(tax payers) taken away and never returned to the city.
If all military spending was removed from California at once the people would change their minds quick.
In 1950 the town of Faithville N.C. was put off limits for the army and less than 30 days the towns folks had a change of heart real fast when most of the busness went broke. I think this kind of action is in order now for Berkeley, calif. and maybe the whole state.

I am saddened and angered at the mood and stance of the City of BEZERKLEY at this point and time with regard to denying the US Marine Corps their First Amendment Right of conducting their everyday business without harrassment and public policy and statement against them. Since the Viet Nam war, Berkeley has not been a place where the military has been welcome. I can’t help but wonder what would happen if the National Guard was needed in Berkeley. If there was a disaster and the governor needed to call on the National Guard I have a couple of questions. Would the citizens of Berkeley who currently oppose the military welcome the assistance? Would the National Guard be willing to go someplace where they “are not welcome”? I have a lot of spiteful thoughts about Berkeley, but try to moderate or tame them. I was born and raised in California. I lived there from 1964 until 1985. I married a career military man in 1984 and have only been to California to visit since moving out in 1985. Not everyone has the options available that I had. I guess I would say use your vote and get rid of the fools who are opposed to the military until they need them.

The city council in Berkeley has acted in an inexcusible manner. I think they should apologize for and rescind all of their actions and then be forced to step down from their public positions. I also believe that the government should move ahead with their plans to strip out the federal funding that was earmarked for the city, regardless of whether the council apologizes or not. What to do about Berkeley?

I’m hoping that on your show, The Colby Files, you will invite a discussion of legal experts to explore litigation against the Berkeley City Council and Code Pink and other anti-military organizations.

The Berkeley Council and protesters are in clear violation of several provisions in 18 USC Chapter 115 – TREASON, SEDITION, AND SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES. 18 USC Sec. 2388 “Activities affecting armed forces during war” is a good place to start, and other sections apply.

Additionally, a case can be made that the Berkeley Council and anti-military protesters are in violation of several Berkeley Municipal Codes that are routinely unenforced by local law enforcement. Look specifically at Sections 13.36 and 13.44, although other portiions do apply.

This would be just a beginning of the discussion.

I’m highly disturbed that the Federal Government (U.S. Marshall, FBI, Department of Justice, etc) has yet to crack down on Berkeley City Council and Code Pink protesters for thier lawlessness.

Perhaps with your assistance, Jamie, we can get these legal questions answered. I do realize the Presidential election is dominating the news, but the election isn’t until November and that leaves a lot of time for more mischief from Berkeley and Code Pink. They need to be put on notice and stopped.

If they know their history, they would realize if it wasn’t for all of the “troops” throughout our nation’s past they wouldn’t have the right to even voice their opinion. How ignorant can people be. Perhaps they should try living in a country where they don’t have those freedoms that have been fought for and see if it makes them gain a new respect for the U. S. and its troops.

For myself, I owe alot to these men and women. I don’t have to worry about being bombed when I go to the mall or the grocery or just down the street. They are stopping most of the idiots before they come over here. As for the bleeding hearts who think that there can be peace throughout the world without war, they need to read their history books and their bibles.

And yes, my son is in Iraq at this moment and it was totally his decision and he took 3 years to make it. He wants to fight to protect his country and his family. He states the people there who just want normal lives like everyone else are so greatful to the soldiers it is unbelievable.

I could go on and on but to no avail. Some people just do things for the attention it brings them, like protestors.

I was stationed at Hamilton AFB in the mid-1960s and remember well the unruly treatment of ROTC faculty and cadets at UCB. So nothing has really changed except that the local government has now sided with the likes of Code Pink. They are inviting another bombing of government buildings, this time in their own backyard. Berkeley – wake up to the real enemy who applauds your insanity.

I think it is treason to have City officials support the efforts to have U.S. Recruting offices defiled in the name of “peace”. How do terrorist activities show support? Anybody found undermining the Governments attempt to defend our counrty should be put in jail and prosacuted for treason. Running a recruting office out of town, bombing an office in New York are not the way I see any patriototic americans acting. I believe that type of thinking is no less terrorist than flying planes into our buildings.

While it is distubing to veterans to see American citizens acting up against our great Nation it is their right as a citizen to speak out without fear from legal persecution. This right was gained and is now protected by the Armed Forces of the United States. As a citizen you have this right and no police force will arrest you for doing so but if you really feel as strongly in your opinion as you say you do try expressing your opinions somewhere your rights are not protected. I dose not take much courage to condemn the American fighting man and woman,the American government and the American envolvement in world democracy when you know after you have done so you can go back to your home,sleep in a safe bed,go to your school(paid for probabaly by the government) and will be ready for the next days protests. Please try this in another country and see what happens, and bring a camera as I’d love to see the look on your face. But I don’t blame you too much. Your young, impresssionable and stupid at times. I really find the blame placed squarely on the shoulders of the so called leaders of your community. The elected officials who are sworn to uphold the ideals of our founding fathers. These are the people who sadden me the most. They should be brought up on charges of treason if possible. At least they should be fired for not living up to their positions. They are not fit to lead and are not fit to be Americans!!!

Enough of these self-centered spoiled children who pass themselves off as any kind of “official”. “Official” morons, all of them. Cut off all Federal and State Funding to the City Of Berkeley, Home of the “Shame”. Basically, traitors. They want their own little piece of crazyland, let them pay for it all themselves. I am from California. I spend money in Berkeley. NOT ANY MORE!!! Disgusting immature, ignorant adult brats. “YOU” get out of” MY” country and” MY “State. YOU are the cause of hatred and division. The very essence of our country is FREEDOM and its not just for anti-military, anti-Bush, anti-ANYTHING. movements. It’s FREEDOM for all of us. Get over yourselves. You don’t like the military? then PLEASE leave. I beg you LEAVE. Go live somewhere where there is no military. Guess what?? Wherever there is no military, the United States has to protect those people also. So pride your “Pink” selves on whatever it is that you are against today but leave my Freedoms alone. I have the RIGHT to be protected by the military. I want it. I admire and respect our soldiers. I LOVE them. If you don’t want protection, then get out of this country. It is a MILITARY country. No military – no USA. Can’t you understand the very simple basic foundation? YOU” are the ones who are not welcome !!! What do all of you ingrateful snobs think the military is for? Answer: To protect you. Shame on you, sitting there all smug, claiming you own no apology to anyone, while these brave young men and women fight against the kind of tyranny that you are trying to impose on the rest of us. You owe every citizen of the United States an apology. You are an apology. The left wing nutcase wackos in this country are the reason for all of the hatred between the two spectrums of the political beliefs. It is always your disrespect for other people’s views and your hatred for your OWN country that causes the problems in our society. On the Right we stand for honesty, bravery, decency in actions, Freedom for EVERYONE, not just one mind-set. ENOUGH!!!! You have gone too far. Grow up and actually be an example of real Patriotism for the youth of this country. If you never lifted one finger to help your country, at the very least you could shut up and let real Americans do the right thing. How can you stand yourselves? I truly hope that what you have done to embarass our State will result in punishment for your city. Your reputation is already ruined , maybe you will wake up when your economy is affected by your stupidity.

I think that was the lowest of low that any City could display. I for one think that when they are in need of (any kind) that they should not be able to call on the Marines for help. The military is and always has been what is keeping America free. We have always had recruting for military as long as I can remember and I am not a joung chicken. I am proud to have had a dad that fought in World WarI, one brother in WWII, two brothers in the Korean war. May God Bless all our men and women in uniform. I thank them and God every day for my freedom.

Shame on you! As an American Veteran and spouse of an active duty service member who just returned from Iraq I’m so ashamed of your lack of support. Find it in your heart to admit you were wrong and apologize. We will not be bringing any financial support to the city of Berkeley in anyway shape or form and I hope others will boycott you as well.

For many, many years as a CAL grad (‘60), my family and I have traveled to Berkeley for a lot of CAL games. With that, we would have lunch, and/or dinner at a restuarant nearby to the campus. Not any more. I will buy game tickets, but nothing else … absolutely nothing else on these game days. I will encourage my many CAL friends and fraternity brothers to do the same. It might not seem like a lot… but at least it will not support the sales taxes that the city of Berkeley receives.

BTW, please… please, everyone reading this note. Lets not call the campus Berkeley any longer!! It gives a bad name to a wonderful university that should not reflect the image of the city of Berkeley.
Lets call if CAL, UC Berkeley (if we must) or anything but BERKELEY.

I’m horrified that the City Council in Berkeley allows this travisty to exist with the horrible treatment of our Marines. Don’t they know that if they weren’t over there defending our country that the jerk terrorists would be right here in our country to kill us all. Then Code Pink would be Code Red from the blood. Terrorism is the next thing to come to our country, although we have already lost 3,000 people to it in the 911 tragedy. Why are the old hippies who smoke pot constantly allowed to run the country when our “city people” can’t control them.
