At the present time I am 100% disabled or I would be out in Berkley or anyone place that says the Marines or any of our Military are not wanted or should not be there. This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. What would they do without the Military. Right now they could be speaking any one of many different languages. Our Military is the best in the World and everyone should be standing up and applading these young people. Any one that acts the way these elected officials in Berkley have done should be charged with treason during time of war and let the chips fall where they may. They do not have the right to even call themselves Americans. No true American would do this while we have our Military in harms way.

I am a proud wife or an Iraqi and Desert Storm USMC Veteran. I have had to priviledge of knowing many young men who have served with my Husband. I would not trade anything for them. They are the reason we have the rights we do have. Please respect the rights of these servicemen and women to make their own choices.
After all they are the ones watching our backs.
I agree and believe we should remove any Federal Monies or “Earmarks”, scheduled for “Berkley” immediatley! I respect their are honorable citizens of Berkley, well, they better start pullin in the reins of the City Council.

I am so disheartened to learn of the Berkeley City Council’s actions against the Marine Recruiting Station and our young marines doing their job. My husband and I are both retired from the Navy and our daughter is currently proudly serving in the Navy also at the young age of nineteen. She wanted to serve her country. I can’t believe that our marines have been treated with such disrespect when they put their lives on the line everyday just by putting on their uniforms. My heart goes out to all of the young men and women serving on active duty or in the reserve forces today! Please do something to reverse the damage and unjust that has been done here! These service men and women should be applauded for their service NOT ridiculed! I am embarrassed by the actions of the City Council who are sworn to serve the public. Can’t we find something better to occupy council time than pick on an elite force of heroes!!! SHAME ON THEM!

There is such a “Thing” as Dissent; and I am aware that opinions are like “Backsides”, everyone has one… So it is my “Opinion” that those “Traitorous Swine” should be taken out a “Stood against a Wall”! With having a son in the military now, who served 5 deployments in Iraq and a husband who served in the Marines many years ago, the actions in Berkeley sicken me. Aren’t they living in the land of earthquakes. I wonder who the people of Berkeley will rely in a crises to rescue and secure them and maintain order. If Berkeley were a private community (such as a senior citizen community), then I could see how Berkeley could decide whether or not to accept certain businesses or organizations within its borders. However, you are a public community supported NOT only by your own tax dollars but ALL of our tax dollars from all over the U.S.

You do owe the USMC an apology for your public discrimination. To dislike an individual because of their beliefs and choice of career may be ok while in your own home but to do so utilizing public funds (including MY taxes) is unacceptable. If you REALLY dislike the Federal Government and all of its branches, then step up to the plate. Do NOT take federal funding, do NOT allow any of your citizens to go to college utilizing federal grants, do NOT accept any federal funds for special projects, food for students, programs for the underprivileged…why? Because this is the SAME federal government that finds nobility and honor in the public defense of our country as well as coming to the aid of others through the use of a military system.

I live close to Berkley and my husband is a US Army Recruiter. And the one thing I would tell the Mayor is our Military Recruiters do no force a single soul to join any branch of the Military. They are there to give information and to do the paperwork to enlist a person who wishes to be in our US Military. He should get all of his facts before he and the city council decide on issues.

Back in the late 1960’s my family would watch the evening news and once a week the number of Americans killed in Vietnam were mentioned. Footage of action in Vietnam and of war protesters appeared just about every evening. We sat quietly and didn’t say a word.We all knew that it was just a matter of time before I received my draft notice. You see,my father was a prisoner of war. He was captured in Italy and marched five hundred miles into Germany where he remained a prisoner for nineteen months. His younger brother served as a combat medic in the Pacific, and his youngest brother was wounded in France and was crippled for life. He was confined to a wheel chair. Those are the reasons my parents didn’t discuss the Vietnam War. They knew that there was an excellent chance that I would be going to Vietnam. Well, I was drafted and sent to Vietnam where I served as a grunt. Before and after my time in Vietnam whenever I was in uniform I was cursed and called terrible names at all the airports by a few people. The Berkeley City Council and the members of code pink( no need to capitalize their organization’s name) remind me of all the individuals I encountered that had no respect for me, but more importantly, had no respect for my uniform which to me represented my country. God bless our servicemen and women.

Our troops have defended our National position to allow people to forget the horrors of war. Is this the thanks they get? The American people should remember if the war was fought on our own soil and people like you were doing the same thing what would be the outcome? I am saddened by the Berkeley City council’s actons. Talk about The Enemy Within!! Wasn’t it Krushev (spelling?) that said The United States would be destroyed from within? sounds like the beginning to me. I’m just saying.

I want to express my thoughts on Berkeley California. I think we as true Americans need to just write them off as part of the United States. They need to be sent to Mexico are better yet Iran. Our wonderful men and women in foreign lands working to keep us here at home safe need to have our prayers and good thought and wishes. My father fought in WWI, one brother in WWII, and two brothers in the Korean War. I am very proud that they served our Country well, and will always thank God for our freedom here. I think the least the council could do is apologise to our Marines. God Bless them and God Bless America.

The city of Berkley police dept.and especially the Chief of Police should be ashamed for doing nothing when portesters were blocking the door way to a government place of business. That is a direct violation of the law. A police dept. representative stated when asked”we are remaining neutral”. I could not believe it.

Are there no “real Americans” in Berkeley? I did hear a few speak out against the Berkeley city council but there should be many more like Laurie of San Diego and Kelly of San Clemente. The silent mojority are finally being pushed into action. We are proud of our soldiers and take personally the abuse they have suffered.

All federal funding to Berkeley and other areas of the country that do not support any military recruiting center, should be stopped. I realize this if wishful thinking, our government is incapable of stopping any kind of spending, even under these disturbing circumstances.

I am a vietnam era veteran. I recall the way the troops were treated by air-head lefties during these times. After Desert Strorm, I though we as a nation had grown and learned that the troops are not policy makers–only people following orders. It does not surprize me that the city leaders in “Bizzerkly” are still in a drug-like induced haze. I hope that California Legislators and the US congress hold back funding to the community of Berkeley.. However, I realize that the Democratic contolled California State Legislature and the Democratic controlled US House and Senate, will most likely “increase” funding to Bizzerkly–citing their agreement with the stand taken by the council.

It is hard to believe after 9-11 a community or any individual would have anything but the deepest respect for our troops. Some people just don’t get it, freedom comes from the sacrifices of the military. The way I see it, if you insult the military like Berkeley has, you come up short on patriotism and should come up short on government funding. Berkeley, you are a little bit scary.

It saddens me to know how my father suffered from being shot during the Normandy Beach Invasion, fought in the Korean war, and served in Viet Nam 3 times where again he was shot and traveled for three days using pungi sticks as a brace for his leg and he did it all for you and me.
These men and women risk life and limb to keep us safe and Berkley won’t allow them in their city
in order to sign new recruits? Why? They don’t bother anyone so why are you doing this? Are you saying that anything to do with the military is low-class and evil? These wonderful men and women are ready to die for you sir! Think about it. My son and daughter served in the military. When they were done with their tours of duty they used the college fund that the military offers and received their respective Bachelor Degrees. Without the military they probably would not have been able to afford college right away. Please tell us why you think the military recruiting in Berkeley is bad. As far as I know, Berkeley would expect the military to protect them if we are attacked by another country…right? Please sir, explain to me why the military is considered second class to you?

To the Mayor, City Council, Citizens, and Students of Berkely, CA:

For 233 years, the men and women of the United State Marine Corps and other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, have defended and upheld the Articles of “The Declaration of Independence” and our Constitution. And, I might add here, that at no time have military salaries and allowances ever come close to being equitable to their civilian counterparts. Military personnel are on call 24 hours daily, seven days, weekly and 365 days a year, but base pay for a young man or woman entering the military is less than minimum wage, compared to their salaried or hourly counterparts.

The rights and privileges military personnel extend to political, religious, educational and economic freedoms which citizens, like yourself, take for granted and often abuse. Many years ago, California legislators joined with a majority of other congresspeople and senators to pass a law, stating that the federal government had the right to withdraw federal funding and support to any agency, municipality and academic institution that denied the right of access to federal personnel engaged in the act of educating or recruiting qualified personnel for employment with the federal government.

Many states in our country have concurring laws. Be that as it may, while in violation of federal law, your actions are not only an embarassment to this country but are denying recruiters and civilians their own livelihoods and freedom of choice.

You are denying recruiters their first amendment rights, among others. But, moreover, in these economically troubled times you are denying students a right to seek employment opportunities and training, that may not be available to them. You are denying students the opportunities for scholarship programs that can–in some cases–equal almost $100,000. in real cash and benefits, by denying recruiters access to your town. You have cast our military personnel in a heinous image, which amounts to being defamatory and libelous. Moreover, by being one-sided, you have violated the very precepts that our Constitution and Declaration of Independence were founded upon.

You have denied an equal voice to military personnel, who by their very presence is an example of the sacrifices made by people whose moral and ethical choices place them far above the paltry contributions you have made to keep our Republic a strong, independent nation “of the people, by the people and for the people.” Military personnel may not always be perfect, but in the overall scheme of things, they represent the best this nation has to offer regarding moral, ethical and, yes, the lawful representation of what our country stands for…”to support and defend the “Constitution of the United States against all enemies…foreign and domestic.”

I can think of a number of solutions to the atrocious wrong-headedness acted upon in Berkely”

1. Rescind your actions and apologize
2. That the Governor of California and the Federal Government withdraw all public funding to your town.
3. That the Federal Government withdraw all funds to the University of California Campus in your “berg.”
4. Or, if you and your citizens/students believe yourselves right:

a. refuse all state and federal public funding
b. apply for secession, and try to support your own economy as a separate nation
c. disavow the protection of state and federal law enforcement
d. disavow the protection our service personnel provide (this would include, FEMA, the national guard, reserve or active military support in times of crisis and natural disasters)
e. disavow the protection and rights afforded your hamlet under the U.S. Constitution and Federal and State Laws, which you are so blatantly defying and ignoring

Your actions are hypocritical at the least and thoroughly ungrateful and thoughtless, at best. It is indicative of the generations who feel they are “entitled” to all they desire, without earning or deserving the freedoms, rights and benefits they enjoy. Not everyone has the fortitude to serve in our Armed Forces and not everyone is suited, but the freedom of choice is something that should be afforded to all young men and women, of good conscience, and not to be denied by bureaucrats and academics who are unwilling or unsuited to face the realities of this world.

As a former Marine Infantryman who was afforded the opportunity to become a photojournalist and broadcast professional, I can say that young people today have more opportunities in the military, than most colleges and municipalities offer. Your actions are a travesty and I can only say: What goes around, comes around. I can only hope your heinous activities and political machinations will give you(and the constituency that supported you) reason to feel shame and despair for your hurtful actions. I can imagine how Al-Jazeera and other international media outlets are reporting your actions.

If the people in Berkley think our men and women in uniform are so horrible, maybe the entire city should just move to the middle east where they are so much “nicer”. It is a dark day in America when some of it’s own people attack the very people trying to protect it. I would love to see these lunatics in Berkeley try to oust the Taliban from their city. What drives these unhinged liberal lunatics is their refusal to grow up coupled with a deep self loathing translated to hatred for America an it’s military. I’m sure the terrorist are looking for their next soft target…..In Berkeley I think they just might have found it.

I am so glad that Fox reported this story! Berkeley’s actions are unforgivable. As someone who grew up next to a military base, I know the sacrifices these men and women make to help keep our country safe, and we should all be supporting them, not bashing them. Thank you Fox!

How about having the Berkley City Counsel sign a waiver that exempts the National Guard from coming into the city in case of a terrorist attack, a riot, natural disaster or any other reason. Would the people in Berkley go for that? Wouldn’t that change the counsel’s mind?

I retired from the US Army after 20 years in 1996. My Dad is a 20 year Airforce retiree that served in Korea and Vietnam. One of my sons has about 9 years in the Army as an Infantry Airborn Ranger and has been in Iraq two times and Afganistan once and should be back in Iraq by September. One of my daughters in law is a Army Finance officer and has been in Afganistan once and is presentlly in Kewait. I never served in the Marine Corp but I have another daughter in law that has and I have other friends that have and are serving and they are the bravest people that I know. As you can see my wife an I are in full support of our millitary and will back them up in any way that is needed. You Want a be hippies from the 60’s never got past the Vietnam war protest. You were the people that stood in the San Fransico airport and spit at on the Military members as they returned from Vietnam and called them baby killers. That was a very sick action to take ageanst our military and you are still doing it by telling the Marines that they need to leave the city of Berekely. If it were not for the Marines we would all be speaking Japanese after the bombing of Peral Harbor and the taking of two Islands comming down the Aleutian chain in Alaska. You should be ashaimed of your selves and submit your resignations with a full appoligy to the Marines and your city and th United States.

Berkley California needs to wake up and join the rest of true Americans. What world do you think you are living in? Without the military, you wouldn’t have the right to complain. You act more like spoiled brats than grown adults!! Shame on you!

Hatred of America pre-occupies their minds and is a useful tool to get their names in the media. Spolied children will always throw temper tantrums to get what they want.
