My husband is deployed overseas in Iraq as we speak. My children have had it hard enough missing their daddy. But it is extremely hard on them when people make the anti-military remarks such as are done by these people who block the recruiting offices. This is hard on troops, the wives the parents, and the children. My husband is so insulted by these protests. It is so hard to fight for a country who only partially fights for you. However, Thankfully the military is chuck full of the kind of men and women who know how to do what is right even when it is not popular. They don not do it for an oscar or some reward. They do it for the safety of the future generations. thinking of others. what a concept. A concept that has completely slipped by those who are harassing our troops and insulting their families.

The City of Berkeley should be un-incorporated and the officials fired. The un-incorporated village then be governed by the next larger city. Like Point Loma in San Diego.

I call for the firing of all City leadership due to the lack of leadership. Also using the office for personal ends. Like a monarch.

I too am fed up with the unlawfull actions of the Berkeley City Council. You are the ones creating the prolem, the Marine Corps Recruiting Center is headquartered lawfully in a government building and certainly has the constitutional right to recruit young men and women into our armed forces. You, of all people, Mayor Bates, should recognize this or else you certainly are a turncoat and traitor to the very armed forces in which you served as an officer, no less! I think the Berkeley Council’s despicable actions are furthermore traitorous because they give aid an comfort to our avowed enemies, the terrorists of the world. You are so quick to condem, but not quick to remember what happened on September 11th, 2001 when my good friend and fellow pilot, Charles “Chick” Burlingame lost his life when his plane was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. I lost a friend but our country now has lost the nerve and will to take the fight to them from the relative safety and wealth of our great nation. Remember, Mr. Mayor, our country was founded on the constitution and the President has the right to raise and maintain a standing army, which includes our brave men and women in the US Marine Corps. They have a proud tradition of being “first to fight” and have weathered more than your puny resolutions and still they battle on to preserve the rights of free speech that the Code Pinks so blatantly flaunt.

By giving aid and comfort to these seemingly crazy people who whouldn’t know a military person from a Berkeley student, you are in violation of our country’s laws and should pay the consequences. I promise you I will do everything in my power to have Federal sanctions levied against your town by communicating this to my congresspeople and supporting those in congress who would bring those sanctions. I hope and pray that the NC congressman’s bill passes to cut off all Federal funding to your city and I will furthermore personally, never spend “one more red cent” in your city nor will I allow any of my family to do so. I will work to have all my friends also boycott your businesses, schools, and even your beautiful Berkeley hills. You sir, are a disgrace to the uniform you once wore and your City Council members must certainly be crazy. We will put pressure on your city economically, which is apparently the only way to get Berkeley people to respond. I stand alongside all the true patriotic organizations like Move America Forward to thwart your city’s commerce and plans. Rescind your resolutions pointed against great Amrican institutions like the Marines and the Boy Scouts of America which your city has also disrespected and pressured to admit people who who would undermine the established bylaws of the Boy Scout charter.

Mr. Mayor, send an immediate apology to the Marine Corps Recruiting Center, to the American people for acting so irresponsibly and rescind the remaining propositions which try to destroy our right to raise and maintain our armed services. We will become a very loud and vociferous voice of reason in a city that is not only obnoxious, but seeks to operate in a Socialist/Communist philosophy. Stop hating your country and start supporting her.

The mayor and council of Berkely, and by extension all residents that support this radical elected officials views against the USMC, sow the seeds for the ultimate destruction of the values founded in this Republic in 1776. The mayor and council, while touting their right to Freedom of Speech, ignore the fact that right also gives those of us that disagree equal right to be heard and debated and through their one sided view, do not seem to understand just how their right to freedom came about.

As a military retiree (I am a Vietnam veteran - three years in vietnam) it is appaling to me that in this time of war, we are seeing the kind of negativity that is going on against our military. I had to go through the pain of coming back to the states and the protests of the 60’s and 70’s. I would have thought that this time it would be different. Shame on these people!

As I understand it, there is some legislative action against Berkley that will cut off funding to some of this city’s projects. Maybe we can change their attitude through their pocketbook.

I am the proud father of an army soldier that has just returned from a 15 month deployment in Iraq. He willingly volunteered to put his life at risk to preserve the freedom and liberty that you and I enjoy every day. This has not been a cheap price to pay. He has carried out multiple soldiers who have paid the ultimate price for this freedom, including holding his best friend in his arms while watching his life expire.
When I learned of your decision to block the entrance of the Marine Corps recruiting office with a bunch of anti-American code-pink radicals, it made my blood boil! The Mayor and City Council should be ashamed as well as the community members that hold this view.
I am glad that our military members don’t lower themselves to this standard. They bleed and die to protect Berkeley the same as they do for other cities and communities who support their valiant efforts.

The individuals who serve on the Berkeley city council are sorry excuses for citizens of this country. The actions they took, the words they said, and what they believe in is sick enough, but thier unwillingness to admit any wrongdoing really speaks to the kind of people they are.

Bloated with self importance, they don’t realize how truly stupid they all look.

Fortunately, this will be the most any of us ever hear from them, they will amount to nothing… and on thier deathbed they will look back and say “Boy that was great that we told soldiers that defend our own country that they are unwelcome intruders.” “I am so proud.” Then they will die…and no one will care, escpecially me.

Unless there has been a change, people still have the option in this country of being able to make their own choices. Serving your country is a career option for more individuals in this counrty than most other career fields. Our nation is in jepordy, because the services are all understrength. People & groups like yours are a major cause of the deterioration of youth today. The youth of today are taught nothing about servise to their country and are taught that they can do or say anything they want with no respect. Your are one of those cancers eating away at this generation. This country is doomed unless someone gets a handle on the respect issues we have in this country. As in activist groups such as Code Pink who you socialistically granted parking permits and wouldn’t do that for the recruiting station shows the sorry state of your community! I agree that all federal funding should be pulled. You want to treat the nations best who are federal employees this way. No federal funding to line your pockets. Then we’ll see how far your community falls. No it can’t be stopped on this years budget, but next year it can. I hope an example is made out of your community to serve notice to others that have the same agenda you have. If an Australian council acted like the Berkeley council is they would be considered treacherous and un-Australian.

The members of the Berkeley council and Code Pink should be sent to the Iraqi or Afghan hotspots, the sites of the fiercest fighting and told to defend themselves as they despise their military and the brave fighting they do.

They took that out, saying it had “hazardous chemical residues” and wasn’t safe for the children. That was after it had been sterilized before setting it up, and then weathered in the open sun and rain for 20 years. They just made up the “hazardous chemical residues” part and that was good enough to move that miltary symbol out. They succeeded at keeping the Blue Angels out of San Francisco for several years, though, thanks to someone, and I don’t know who, they gave us fantastic airshows the last 2 years. San Francisco “persuaded” the Army to give up the Presidio to friends of our 2 women Senators. The buildings that used to be officer’s quarters now belong to their friends and movie moguls. That’s just the beginning. For those who don’t know, Berkeley is a college town. All it produces is college graduates, and a lot of those go on to be psychologists in our elementary schools and political science majors who make government their career. It’s no wonder that our country has been taken over by anti-American psychos. Think about the qualifications of the people that run your schools and who are hired to work for your city. They might be Berkeley graduates.

I am one of the embarassed residents of Berkeley that attended the demonstration earlier this month and stood with the pro-marine side. I should also mention that I am a 56 year old conscientious objector who helped to peacefully and even quietly shut down the marine Recruiting center on Portland State campus in the late 60’s as a part of a demonstration we held in Portland that day. !0,000 attended which is huge for Portland at that time.

There was a draft at that time and I was in full support of those who burnt down local draft offices where records were kept on those who were forced to register. Remeber in those days computers weren’t used and so if the records were burned or lost the people were free from being drafted. No back up copies. I tell you this so you can picture my mind set and to distinquish myself from the blind patriot crowd.

If there was a draft today I would support your position. There is not a draft today however. Another thing that is different today from the Viet Nam era should have been noticed by you on 9-11. Remember that? More people were killed in that attack than Pearl Harbor.

Now I do not support the war in Iraq but only a bloody fool would deny the necessity of stopping Adolph and co. in WW3. And as I can see the justification for the war my father fought in I can see the necessity of a World Wider war on the terrorists and Islamofacists. It is not the fault of the Marine Corp. that we have a bungling and ill motivated character in the White House.

Now who do you think we could recruit to help our country in this war on terrorism? No more draft thankfully. I guess that leaves us with the Few and the Proud and those like them to protect us. You know those same people you FOOLISH INGRATE ASSES so arrogantly insulted by your words and deeds.

I wonder if their actions may even be illegal since favoritism is being shown to Code Pink by giving that protest group a preferred parking space. I know its part of the military code of conduct to sit by and take this, but for the love of me I don’t know how one can.

Many of these people serving have given up good lives so that they man protect us, and everything we hold dear. They serve and protect the right to act like a coward and harass some of the most selfless people to walk the earth.

As a 22 year old i’m mostly ashamed of the people who “Fight the marines in the name of the youth and the future,” these men, women, boys and girls are fighting for our future, fighting with no regaurd for their own future. The only youth that these protest groups fight for is the youth without a mind, the youth that gets strung along into fads and given their news by MTV or John Stewart, the Youth that believes if we hug our enemies they’ll change their mind and decide to love us.

These “Anti-War”, “Anti-Military” groups survive in a bubble, a bubble were logic is null, where true ideas, debate, and thoughts they don’t believe in are void, a bubble protected by our troops Our troops who fight for what they believe in, for what they oppose, and for our God given right, and they fight for all of US, even if some of you hate them.

I wonder if Berkeley would allow protesters to chain and block the front doors of an abortion clinic? And if protesters did this, would the Berkeley police arrest them? Instead of standing by like limp noodles?

Double Standard for Berkeley. Murder a defensely baby? Sure! Protect and Serve your nation? No!

The mayor, Master Bates and the city council are a loyal member of the “hate America First” political party. And, they do not even want to apologize. How absurbed! Maybe the council would like to move to Havana or Caracus where their stand would be more acceptable.

I recently wrote to the mayor of Berkeley, the following is a copy of that email. The response was a spin generated response letter claiming what patroit he is and how their actions in regards to the code pink Nit-Wits was one that could be requested by anyone. It looks as if that same letter went out to quite a few people . Here’s my letter.
Dear Mayor Bates
It is my understanding that the United States Armed Forces are not welcome in the City of Berkeley. In the past, your fair City has lent an ear to some far left policy that has left you and the city council looking pretty arrogant and the truth be told, most of America thinks you are no more than pseudo-intellectual kook’s. I ,on the other hand, think your attitude is dangerous to the men & women who protect this country every day. If you think what you do is of no consequence, you are wrong. Terrorists wait with baited breath to hear the kind of thing coming out of your city, and use it to demoralize and propagandize troop’s and hold you up as their evidence. In the not so distant past, comments the likes of which are attributed to you, would be looked at as seditious, and would be dealt with severely. Perhaps your city could sever it’s ties with the US Government and strike out on your own, until then, you and your city council need to tone down the rhetoric and support the nation that gives you the freedom to say the things you have, and me the right to disagree.

I hope that one day that you or your loved ones do not need the Marines due to your sad actions to attempt to stop recruitment in such a fine California city. However, if your city does need the Marines, I’m sure we (old Marine) will be sure to help you anyway.

UCBerkeley is such a great university but the town is such a toilet. Our son graduated in 2006 with a degree in ChemEngineering. We enjoy the football teams and university open house but the town sucks!

Go by “People’s” Park. They allow several hundred drunks and drug addicts to live there and rob the students and the community. When we tried to complain to the University that their school is not safe, they tried to pass it off as a “community” problem. I think people and the US Dept of Education need to be notified that the students are not safe. It is in the middle of three student housing complexes.

The city is a perfect laboratory of liberalism. This is what happens when we let liberals run things. One of the earmarks that Congress (yes, federal tax dollars) gives the city is “gourmet” school lunches catered by the most expensive restaurant in town. Perfect! We tax the working people so that these rich kids get federal subsidized “gourmet” lunches. Waste upon Waste!

Being rude to our Marines is the least of their problems. It is a pity that we don’t let the Marines practice their hand-to-hand combat techniques on these loathsome slugs. I would give money to see them give the fools a well needed “education.”

I will write my state legislators and ask them to change the name of the university to UC East Bay or something that is not connected to this disgrace.

It really is a total shame that a American city would even consider kicking Marine recruiters out. It is still “HOME OF THE BRAVE” not home of code pink

The citizens and city leaders of beserkley are a disgusting group of misfits. You should hide your heads in shame. I have more respect for pond scum. Why don’t you build a wall around the joke you call a city, so that we can deny your existence? Or, even better, fold up your city and just go elsewhere? How about Cuba??? I’m sure you would fit right in….
You were wrong to treat our military with contempt during the Vietnam conflict and you have obviously not improved where good manners are concerned in the years since. But then, why should I expect good manners from the home of the rabid liberal? Or anything else worthy of notice. I almost feel sorry for your children. They stand no chance to fight the brainwashing to which they are obviously subjected. One can only hope that their wisdom and maturity will grow apace and spare them a life of confusion. (I won’t hold my breath in anticipation).

To The Governor Of California:

Sir:

To many Americans, especially those of us born of immigrant families, you are an American Success Story. Your movies have protrayed you as a great American hero in many of your roles. In fact, military personnel find your movies highly motivating and I cannot think of any movie of yours, that played on, on base theaters that didn’t play to a packed house.

Now is the time to truly be a hero and a civic activist, rather than stand by let the “girly-men” or whatever in the City Council of Berkely to perpetuate the misdeeds against military in their hamlet. Besides taking a stand for what is right, I think you should be consulting your State’s Attorney and economic advisors to fully understand the ramifications of Berkely’s actions in terms of monetary loss to the economy…not only for Berkely, but in terms of the whole state. The State of California is one of the largest beneficiaries of military salaries, federal contracts, education funds and research grants to its schools. Public Relations-wise, your Visitor’s and Tourism industry may see a decline as well.

As a Public Affairs Specialist with nearly nine years of assignments in California, I can attest to the thousands of veterans who hold reunions and conferences in your state. Millions of service personnel have lived or pass through your state over the years. And, while they may not vote as residents, they vote with dollars that feed California’s economy. If your State Attorney’s office is worth it’s salary, they will indeed find that the Federal Government has every right to withhold any appropriations that are earmarked for Berkely and the University of California campus in that town. The city council is violating a federal law that California legislators supported to help ensure the success of our “All-Volunteer Forces” and the discontinuance of the draft. Further, I believe California has an “Equal Access” Law that provides that any publicly funded campus that allows any agency or commercial interest (e.g. class ring vendors), has to provide equal access to federal or state representatives for the purpose of recruitment or education. Imagine Berkely extending a ban on state police recruiters. Would you stand by and not take action?

Your predecessors, to include Ronald Reagan, and Governors Brown, were quick to acknowledge the contributions the military makes to your adopted state and the role veterans play within the economy and political life of California. The City Council of Berkely has acted in a way that usurps the principles that this country and the State of California were founded on.

You have protrayed U.S. Military personnel in an heroic way. You have worn our uniform in your movies. You have portrayed an uncompromising, honest and courageous federal agent. In fact, your fame and fortune can be partially attributed to the loyalty of your fans, who include military personnel and the heroic figures you have personified.

So, the challenge is: Will you cast off the cloak of being a politician and take a stand as a Civic Activist and Hero? Will you stand by and let “Code Pink” and the City Council of Berkely violate the Constitutional Rights of military recruiters. Will you let those groups in Berkely violate Constitutional
Law and legislative statutes? Will you turn your back on the people who have supported and defended your rights to be the success you are, today? A canny politician would have legal experts descending on Berkley to make the politicians aware of the error of their ways. A canny politician would be working with the Recruiting Commands in your state, to help resolve these issues. A canny politician would be worried about national backlash. A canny politician would find a way to inform the people of Berkely how to impeach their officials.

A Hero and Civic Activist would do something to correct the travesty that is occuring in Berkely.

The question is, what are you? A panderer who will pussyfoot around the problem, or make concessions to mistaken, wrong-headed people, or will you live up to the image you have portrayed, both on the screen and in the political arena.

While I chose to serve my country differently than you have, you have the chance to serve your country and honor the military people who defend our freedoms. Take a stand and do something to help resolve the heinous activities supported by the Berkely City Council, The Mayor, and groups who would deny the same rights to our military recruiters that they themselves enjoy.

The actions being taken by this group (code pink) is absolutley disgusting. Their ignorance towards the military is hilarious. I hope one day they wise up.

It is truly shameful for Berkley and other cities to villify the very ones who protect their civil rights to be hateful!! My husband served for 26 years in the ASAF, we have 3 sons in the military (USN, USAF, and USMC). To see anyone intentionallly and blatantly work against this country’s military members angers me beyond words! As far as my family is concerned, if anyone doesn’t like this country, or the people who protect it, they should leave immediately.

To the Mayor, Council and People of Berkeley California,

I am a Marine and Veteran of the Vietnam War and I will always be a Marine, as you only become an X-Marine by choice or dishonor.

I have been sickened by the stance taken by a city that in my era hung Marine dummies on light poles in protest of the Vietnam War. Now once again you have spoken against those who give you the very right to look like idiots and even be led by a group called Code Pink.

Code Pink has to have the worlds most down trodden and more likely then not welfare recipients to have so much time on their hands to spew hate. The burning of our flag only to further infuriate our troops and our veterans sickens me. Have you ever thought what you are doing to the children of these brave men and women? You only stand for communism and hate. You spew filth on your signs and your ware.

I watched U-Tube as you blocked entry into the recruiting office while your police remained neutral? Your message is loud and clear and so is ours as we to have the right to freedom of speech. Our goal is to boycott your city and your businesses and bring you to your knees with an apology to our Marines and our troops you refer to as murders.

A city ran by cowards that lay lie after lie out to cover one lie after the next. A Mayor in a pink hat and his full support of Code Pink needs to be replaced along with the entire council. With your rights to free speech and expression your pink flag fly’s as you watch Old Glory burn in your streets with pride. Is there not a man or woman among you who has guts enough to put a stop to this or will you always be known as cowards? Speaker Nancy and Senate leader Dingy Harry must be very proud of your actions as they have not said one word because you speak for them with the same hate they hold for our country and our military.

When the last true American leaves Berkeley please bring any remaining flags we will care for them.

I would like the Berkeley City Council to move…to CUBA! Or Russia, or any other country they think is doing a great job.

As a former U.S. Marine who served this beloved country during the Viet-Nam era, it sickens me to see how these lop-eared; buck-tooth; alligator-chomping; Bohemian fish-eyed worms could possibly want the Marine’s to shut up and move out … so, here’s what I seriously believe the Pentagon should do, as it’s what I would do immediately if I were in charge:

1. Pull all of the Marine’s and all other military out of the area and relocate them to areas who appreciate the military.

2. Since the military pumps BILLIONS of dollars into their local economy, jerk every penny away from their economy.

3. If a natural disaster, such as an earthquake should occur after the military has been removed, do NOT send in any of the U.S. Military to assist in any type of rescue and / or help in any way or fashion.

Since they hate the U.S. Military, they damn well don’t deserve any Federal Gov’t. help / assistance should any disaster hit the area.

All you people living your protected lives in Berkeley should hang your heads in shame. These honorable young men and women in our military service are so far above your lot in life and have far more class and caring about you low lifes than you could possibly have about anyone but yourselves.

Crawl out from under your rocks long enough to honor these military personnel. You should be grateful they are doing what your children should be doing…protecting our country and even your undeserving hides!

Until Code Pink and the Berkeley city council apologize to the Marine Corps recruiting office, I will stop paying anything to UC Berkeley for my daughter’s college education. And if UC Berkeley tries to extort payment from me for my daughter’s education, I will remove her from campus, remove my endowment, and NEVER return to Berkeley again. These individuals should leave the country, the same country I have defended during the Vietnam war. Let them learn to live in Iraq or Iran. Let these people try to arouse controversy in a country that will not tolerate it. Let these council members find out what that foreign government does to its citizens. Maybe then, Code Pink and the city council members will appreciate living in the United States.

Please add my voice to those who support our troops and thank them for a long history of jobs well done. The Berkeley City Council’s actions are reprehensible, worthy only of contempt. It’s not surprising, however, since Berkeley has been a cesspool of liberal propaganda and anti-Americanism since the ’60s. In a strange way, though, their selfish, narcissistic stupidity demonstrates the strength of the liberty our Marines, soldiers and sailors have died to protect — they are free to bite the hand that saves them. I’m sure the Berkeley City Fathers would be the first to crawl whining for Federal aid in the event of a terrorist attack on their city.

If Code Pink protested in a respectful way, without all the disrespectful comments, insults to our troops and interfering with military personnel doing their jobs, I would have no problem with that.
