New York Times and Sen. McCain: Retraction?

The consensus today seemed to be Senator John McCain actually gained support following the New York Times front page news about the Senator’s unsubstantiated affair nearly a decade ago with a female lobbyist. Coming his way - new contributors, a warmer, fuzzier feeling from conservative radio show hosts and the chance to move on with just a single day of rumor control.

So what is the old gray lady to do now?

Should the New York Times print a retraction about its allegation concerning John McCain?

I feel that will need to do a retraction if they would like to salvage their paper. I don’t think that this is really hindering Sen. McCain at all, in fact, it seems to actually be helping him with conservatives. I feel this was a case of an attack on a candidate blowing up in the face of the assailant.

I don’t think it matters if the NY Times issues a retraction or not, but it would be nice. However, don’t hold your breath! The NY Times is barely above the Enquirer.

My wish is that the reporters on this McCain story get the same special treatment as Dan Rather did at CBS. The media has to self police because they hide behind the right to free press in lieu of accountability on a regular basis in protecting their sources or lack thereof!

Aren’t you gettng sick and tired of the medias way of generating revenue? Isn’t it bad enough we have to live with the dirt lawyers drum up!

“Once the bell has been rung…”

McCain handled the situation very well and the New York Times looks very foolish.

The NY Times had their story at the time they endorsed John McCain for President. If they truly believed the allegations they should not have endorsed him. The editors suggest that the public did not get the larger point. I suggest the larger point is to sell newspapers, thereby making them no different than other rags. Rick Alexander , NY

As long as our nations colleges’ staff and bookstores promote the New York Times as the only newspaper fit to read the times can do anything it wants and the mind controlled students and alumni will continue to subscribe.

The New York Times is just the tip of the iceberg.

Journalistic ethics is an oximoron.

Except of course regarding Jamie.

If it’s False, print a Retraction. Either way the public will forget it ever happened in a week or two. American’s have very short attention spans when it comes to anything. Look at all the Scandals that have come out of the White House, Department of Justice, CIA, etc. After a week, they all go away, even if they need to be kept alive and investigated. American’s care more about Britney,Paris and Lohan than they care about what’s important for the Country. Like in the Elections. It’s not what’s good for America, it’s what’s good for the Party. Pretty sad if you think about it !

Jamie Colby! Fox keeps moving you around too much! I was expecting to see you at 11:00 and no Jamie. Couldn’t you give us a little heads up on this blog when you are going to be on at different hours? Will you be filling in for anyone tonight?

no, the new york times shouldn’t print a retraction, but fox should print an apology for the public love fest it is having with Obama

It was so obviously a hit piece against Senator McCain. Also, criticizing him for having EX- lobbyists on his staff is ridiculous! They are no longer lobbyists, but rehabilitated into a more creditable vocation!

I think The New York Times, should print a retraction to its story of John McCain, in my blog I would do it in a heart beat, its about common decency.

A news outlet must have integrity, their Journalists must been able to look you in the eye and be honest, any thing less, then well your a puppet that doesn’t deserve any respect from the public.

I mean how do Journalists who twist and lie, look their family members in the eye.

Its about time our that our liberal media answer for all the lies they print about Republicans, Conseratives and Christians. They trash people with or without facts. I don/t see how they can sleep with themselves.

NY Times should close up and go away, but in reality they will stick to their story in hopes of destroying the Republican they promoted. McCain is still the same overly liberal person he was before they broke the 8 year old story.

NY Times? Retraction? probably have a better chance at having David Duke host a BET fundraiser. The NY Times would be a much better newspaper if it wasn’t so convinced of its own liberal slant wasn’t the best path. I think that the strange thing is that there isn’t more of an outcry that they endorsed him, while having this story in the can and waiting. Talk about a setup.

The Story within the Story

Concerning the NYT/John McCain story, nobody is covering the one fact “NO ONE” disputes. The real story within the story is the New York Times endorsed, for President; a man whom they believed was unethical. That is the real story that nobody denies, yet no one is covering.

The new York Times will eventually print a modified appology and sit back and laugh at the “deception” they have accomplished. This “Conspiracy” was just a slick scheme to trick Conservatives, most of the Independents, and some Democrats to support Mc(Cain). They didn’t endorse Liberal Mc(Cain) just to damage him. Think about it.

Comment by Chuck Littau

A side story to the NYT/McCain story is the Times editor has admitted he never expected Democrats and independents to be outraged. Doesn’t that suggest he expected everyone to be ideologues? Isn’t that insulting to his readers?

Even if the Times does print a retraction, it will be in the fine print on page 25, so as to not get any attention and make themselves look bad. I grew up in the NY Metro area and I remember when the Times was a decent paper. Now, however, they are nothing more than a left-wing rag. I recommed that everyone read “Bais” by Bernard Goldberg. He used to be a reporter for NBC, I believe it was, and he recounts in this book the most egregious cases of liberal bias, including the fact that a solid 85-90% of the editors and reporters in our major broadcast and print news identify themselves as liberals. In and of itself, that would not be a big deal, except that they now seem unable to separate their personal convictions from reporting the news.

My brother, who still lives and work in the NY Metro area, is one of those Northeast Liberals that the rest of the country loves to hate. When I mentioned to him that FoxNews was rated as the most trusted news source in a recent poll, he said that scared him. He believes that Fox is nothing more than a conservative mouthpiece. When I try to convince him that they are more balanced than any other source…with people from both sides of the political spectrum on most of their shows, he says it is just propoganda. That’s the problem with most liberals…they only believe what they want to believe…they are right and the rest of us, the majority in the country, the “fly-overs” are wrong and ignorant and misguided.

Tne “news media” in this country has always been bias. i am shocked that anyone listens to the major news outlets. Did we not learn anything from the attack on the Maine. How many events in this country’s history has been manipulated by the press. Unfortunately, the news media is nothing more then a mouthpiece for the socialists in this country and around the world. How anyone can believe anyhting that comes out from so called journalists is truly amazing to me. Look at the medias handling of Bill Clinton and President Bush. It does not matter what President Bush does the media finds a way to destroy the man. They dont just disagree with his policies, they have to ruin him as a President and a man. Why? Because he is a Republican. I for one agree with only a little of what President Bush has done, to include his biggest mistake, making Dick Cheney his Vice Preisdent. But then they may be considered a smart move. The Democrats will never try to impeach President Bush as long as Cheney is VP. FOXNEWS is the only place I get my news. Though they are somewhat bias I can filter out what I dont agree with. Print news is a joke and irrelevant, just like the liberal scum that populates that cesspool called hollywood. If I want to know what I should think or believe on a subject I listen to Hollywood and then vote the complete opposite. Hollywood and the big three news media is corrupt, immoral and down right ignorant. Most of the people in both are poorly educated and have no idea about reality. Look at George Clooney or Rosie. Perfect examples of walking irrelevance.
