The Blackberry Guru
by Adam Housley
I will post the Trunk Show video tomorrow (Friday) I am going to edit it on the plane. So, to keep you occupied, I want to introduce you to the guy who keeps us all connected at Fox. For example, right now I am blogging on my computer using a Verizon card. Also I can and have blogged using my blackberry. When the bosses call for breaking news I answer on my Fox cell phone…all provided and registered by William Alvarez. He is the wizard and I stopped at his desk and decided to pull out the Sanyo camera and grab this clip of his New York Desk at the Fox headquarters.

This video doesn’t exist
Gizmos…ya can’t live with em, can’t live without them. -Rod-
Rod.. can you go onto the other thread and get K2 also please
Oh I heard about these verizon cards! Need to watch this video
William Alverez! You Rock!! You are the Blackberry Master of Electronics
Wheeeeeee!!!!!!
Did you guys see all those blackberrys??? Got to keep the crews connected, we wouldn’t have breaking news if it wasn’t for you William!! Good JOb!
Thanks for this video Adam!!
I heard about these internet connection cards. But that the plans can be pretty pricy because to be able to view all pages you have to pay the top price. Not sure of the details.
William Alvarez;
Not to worry, I won’t bug you. I don’t own a Blackberry- Although, I think Adam said he is sending me one for my birthday so he and Chuck Denton can email me from wherever!
hahahha, William must have a stressful job, he commented that when the blackberrys go down you guys go nuts!! hahahahahahah
What is a trunk show? elephants?
Good question Susan… somebody answered that question on the other thread but I don’t remember the answer
Equine?
Trunk Show. Exhibit Space Contract?
Okay — that was way too many phones….. I can barely work my one. I can answer it, retrieve a voice mail and end a call…….. Yes, my kids laugh at me….
KT–
the answer was not to be found–
Eddie Trunk?
KT - i am here. did you need something?
I give up!
Susan, you give up on what?
K2-
What is the Trunk Show? I was giving up looking for the answer- LOL
Adam–
K2, Patty, KT, and I went out looking for your trivia answer– it is on the satelite thread, now the political thread- K2 found the answer by the way- will you go check it out- please-
Is the answer? Hatfield– he is retired-
but there were two republicans who voted against the first Gulf War- you said one-
oops–
I am getting my threads all mixed up- you posted the trivia question on the tax thread–
We worked hard Adam– will you check it out?
thanks!
Yeah, but you’re too late. In the tax thread. I don’t have any numbers to back it up, but I think I got my point across.
Ok. so we’re going with Hatfield?
I can’t imagine Adam blogging from that tiny little piece of electronics. I guess when he’s on the plane he can do this also?
KT - don’t think i could have helped you on that one……
bad info supported by bad reasoning…oh well.
ALERT….Adam see article below I picked off Greta’s site.
A Future For Me?
by Greta Van Susteren
So…I guess I might have a future after Fox!!! tech guru!!! see below:
A blurb from a media website:
FishbowlNY attended the MPA Digital Conference today, and one panel featured former MSNBC producer and current Newsweek consulting executive producer, Tammy Haddad. Haddad brought along her “TamCam,” a handheld video camera recommended to her by FNC anchor Greta Van Susteren, who Haddad calls her “net tech guru.”
Well–
I guess I will have to see tomorrow what the Trunk Show is–
KT–
I say we go for Hatfield-
nite!
ok Hatfield it is.
The only trunk shows I know are the fashion kind! I am ready for Adam to walk the cat walk with his blueberry!
On the other thread John said a trunk show was when people show off their companie’s latest products before the general public get to see it.
A trunk show for the luggage industry would have to be a trunk trunk show!
US warships move into E. Mediterranean in case Gaza escalation spills over into Lebanon
February 29, 2008, 1:30 PM (GMT+02:00)
Egyptian Gen. Suleiman cancels Israel visit
Egyptian Gen. Suleiman cancels Israel visit
Friday, Feb. 29, Egypt’s intelligence minister Omar Suleiman canceled his visit to Israel because of estimates in Cairo that hectic preparations current in Israel and the Gaza Strip augur a steep escalation of cross-border violence.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report: Officials in Cairo expect Israel redouble its air bombardment and armored raids against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, and Hamas to intensify and broaden the scope of its missile and rocket attacks on Israeli towns and villages.
Both sides are convinced that a further ratcheting-up of the war will generate indirect truce talks through a third party.
The US has meanwhile posted naval and marine vessels opposite the shores of Israel and Lebanon in case the fighting spreads to a second front. DEBKAfile’s Washington sources quote US and Israeli military sources as skeptical of the chances that prime minister Ehud Olmert and defense minister Ehud Barak will secure a ceasefire. The Gaza conflagration is more likely, they believe, to stir Hizballah to ignite a fresh assault from South Lebanon.
These sources point to four significant developments to watch for:
1. Hizballah is adamant about avenging the death of its military commander Imad Mughniyeh by border strikes against Israel and terrorist attacks inside the country. This Iranian front group is also committed to helping Hamas. The end of the 40 days of mourning for Mughniyeh on March 22-23 is anxiously awaited.
2. Israel is braced for this eventuality and in mid-preparation for its army to turn the tables on a Hizballah assault and carry the war into Lebanon.
US intelligence sources note that last week, the IDF deployed Patriot missile defense batteries around Haifa in case Hizballah unleashes a rocket offensive on the North as in 2005.
Our sources also report that local authorities and private security firms responsible for public safety in northern Israel were instructed to inspect bomb shelters and ascertain they were ready for use by March 10.
3. The quarrel between Saudi King Abdullah and Syrian president Bashar Assad, which is nearing boiling point, threatens to be fought out in Lebanon, their main bone of contention. Both are sending quantities of arms and ammo to the Lebanese militias under their respective wings.
4. This week, Abdullah persuaded Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and Jordan’s Abdullah to boycott the forthcoming Arab League summit in Damascus. Assad is unlikely to take this slap in the face lying down. There are indications he is ready to stir up Palestinian terrorist groups for attacks on Saudi, American and Israeli interests in the region.
Standing close by for immediate action off the troubled Mediterranean shores of Lebanon, Israel and Gaza is the USS Cole guided missile destroyer opposite Lebanon. It was joined Monday by the USS Nassau amphibious warship and its strike group of six vessels carrying 2,800 marines, flight crews and sailors. US naval sources report that a third group will join them shortly.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report the Nassau is accompanied by the amphibious transport dock ship USS Nashville , the guided missile destroyers USS Ross and USS Bulkeley and the fast nuclear strike submarine USS Albany SSN 753.
While cruising off the Lebanese coast, this formidable US naval force is close enough to the shores of Israel and Gaza to respond to developing emergencies.
Looks like a “storm” is brewing in the eastern Mediterranean……There isn’t much the USS Cole can do from it’s present location, other than just be a ’show of force’. Unless it’s moving into position to cover a ground offensive, but then the Israeli Navy has a formidable number of ships that could cover such an operation.
John,
Now that i think of it , if god forbid somthing major happens the American ships can come here and evcuate all american including meoi
….
they did that in Lebenon in the War 2 years ago…
Max… you’re funny!
I would love a blackberry but when you don’t work full time it’s hard to justify the need. I will be content with my cell phone and texting.
Maybe one day….
Hey Adam, doesn’t a blackberry allow people to work while not in the office? I know Daytona has great a number of cell towers. lol Did you ever check out my various ideas of stories you could report on from bike week? Time is counting down. lol
Fl Sunshine……..Is Blackbeard’s Saloon still up and running?. I lived in Daytona in the early 80’s……….crazy place during “Bike Week”…….enjoy it.
FL Sunshine, I love your “convincing”
Keep it up, it might just work! *L*
Avi……..let’s hope not, but you’ve always said you wanted a ride on a navy warship.
Avi..i was thinking of you during the night when i turned on the news….scary stuff, too close to home for you and all the others.
Avi
If Pres Assad of Syria is stupid enough to pick a fight with the IDF, the US and Saudi Arabia at the same time he, his armed forces and his govt will regret the move.
But I hope the US and Israel inparticuliar are ready to fight and win the propaganda war. That is why Israel did not win in last summer’s offensive in S Lebbanon, that and gutless leadership in Israel.
Adam, how many gadgets do you carry at all times?
I’d be a bumbleing idiot trying to figure out which one to answer! *L*
FL Sunshine - Adam needs David Hill to talk to Roger Ailes to put Adam on “Special Assignment” for the sister network (SPEED Channel) … so that he can do a story on Bike Week at Daytona … instead of sending his colleague Dave Despain (the self-proclaimed “windbag”) down there to cover it … LOL
Adam - All of this talk about your Blackberry … Does this make you a “Blackberry Strawberry” ??
LOL
Highly Poisonous Ricin Possibly Found At Las Vegas Motel
LAS VEGAS — Preliminary tests indicate that a package found at a motel contained the toxin ricin, and seven people have been taken to hospitals, authorities said.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,333781,00.html
I sometimes have a ‘rassberry’ in my backpocket, but I have to watch out where I bring it out…….most people find it offensive.
I hear three police officers and three hotel workers in hospital.
Adam, I wonder if Rian was at the scene?
That Ricin story is sooo NOT good for this week/weekend …
NASCAR is in Vegas … And some of the teams had decided to spend the week there instead of flying back to Charlotte after Monday’s rain-delayed races at Fontana …
Well, it wasn’t at a main hotel…
it was at one of those “tweekly” places…
Terri………” tweekly “?………Is that like, twice a week?…….or is it a place one can get “tweeked”?……….I think it’s a twick.
KT–
I just heard about the Vegas thing too–
Florida Sunshine- You are funny!
You sound like I did when Adam came to cover the Superbowl and I hounded him here about meeting him– Guess what- I got to meet him- He is a cool guy— very cool! LOL
John-
Where you one of the SWAT guys who got busted for drinking at Hooters and were letting the Hooter girls wear their guns-etc?
Oh my goodness- The fat taxman thread is close to being 1,000 posts-
And good morning everyone–
Kathy Texas– I did find on the internet there is a wardrobe event going on in New York- but I didn’t think Adam would go to one of those- and I am probably so wrong–
I will have to check later to see if the Hatfield answer is correct and what this Trunk event is about?
Hope everyone is well today–
Good Morning all.
lol at Adam attending a fashion trunk show…..looking at all the pretty dresses.
Being true to Adam, he is keeping us in suspense……
Susan………..no, not my guns……..but one did grab my nightstick.
John..
yes … tweekly… not twice a week..
let’s just say,
it’s NOT the kind of place I’d EVER stay at… not even for one night.
and no.. *giggling* it’s not a twick you wascally wabbit.
John- Max- Retread- anyone–
The tax thread is too busy arguing and I would like to know this answer-
Here is where I am messed up– What is the difference of voting against a war and voting against a resolution?
Or is it the same thing?
Susan… ?? I’m messed up to I guess…. does it make that much of a difference?
I would think voting against a war would take place before the war began and your voting not to go war……Voting against a resolution would occur after the war had already been started and now your voting against a proposed resolution to the war……..IMO.
OH THIS IS NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/02/29/a-tax-break-for-hugo-chavez/
Susan..i may be off here, but..a resolution is nothing more than a “law”…it was a resolution that said we could/would go to war. Majority has to agree.
that make sense?
Susan,
Not sure if this is what you are looking for….this is off a site KT posted on the Tax thread…
RESOLUTION: concurrent and simple resolutions normally are not legislative in character since not “presented” to the President for approval, but are used merely for expressing facts, principles, opinions, and purposes of the two Houses. A concurrent resolution is not equivalent to a bill and its use is narrowly limited within these bounds.
So, it appears voting against the war or a resolution against the war is the same thing. Unless of course, it is bill that would then be sent to the president for signature or veto.
John–
I love you– You just solved the whole mystery if this is the case– It was a trivia question and this now clarifies it all– if that is the difference- then Senator Hatfield was the only Rpepresentative to vote against the war in 1990 and in 1991 there were two Republican Senators who voted against the 1991 resolution– Hatfield and Grassley–
This has been driving me crazy–
Terri - I am sceaming over here….
Tax breaks for Chavez! But tax increases for every oil company in the USA! Go figure.
KT needs to put your link on her site….
K2–
Now you have me all messed up again– I am trying to get that trivia question perfect– if the resolution and voting against or for the war is the same– then there are two senators who voted against the Persian Gulf- but if their is a difference, then there was only one Senator–
See what I mean?
definition of resolution:
1. The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.
2. A resolving to do something.
3. A course of action determined or decided on.
4. A formal statement of a decision or expression of opinion put before or adopted by an assembly such as the U.S. Congress.
skip a few…
8.Law. A court decision.
I know what resolution means– I just want to know if these are separate– As John said- voting against the war before it starts and then a resolution would come later- Are these two separate issues?
The Gulf War started in 1990 and in 1991 the senators voted against the proposed resolution- but when I was searching the internet, one of the sites said Hatfield voted against the war in 1990 and then the other sites stated Hatfied and Grassley voted against the proposed resolution– so it is driving me crazy– so it is the same thing, then the site which stated Hatfied voted against the war in 1990 information is not correct-they wrote the wrong year–
See what I mean? And if it is the same thing, then Adam now knows there were two senators and not one- and it is different, then there would have been just Hatfield–
oops– if it is different….
OK…I’m not familiar with the resolutions made regarding the first Gulf War, but it sounds like Hatfield was dead set against the war. Then when war was imminent, or had already started, the Congress must have come up with a resolution as to how to conduct the war…….and he didn’t like that either, and voted against that also.
I just want to know if voting against the war which started in 1990 and voting against a resolution in 1991 are the same–
Is voting against a war and voting against a resolution the same?
John–
thanks–
I will check back later and see if there is an answer– It is driving me crazy–
xxxxx
Terri… Chavez / Citgo is NOT one of the 5 major oil companies that will be affected by this
Voting against the war seems pretty straight forward…….you vote not to go to war.
A resolution for war assumes you’re going, or are at war, and you draft a resolution as to how the war should be fought, or when you will cease operations against the enemy, or whether Britney will come over on the USO tours (sorry). So you’re basically voting for or against something that IS going to happen versus something you want, or do not , want to happen.
Now I’m confused………Miller Time.
K2, I’ll add it
It’s 10:18 am.
eeerrr Adam, where’d ya go?
resoultions- the house and senate use resoultions to state opinions on matters, change the procedures of their individual bodies, Since resoltions pertain to the houses of Congress , they are not laws, and the president does not need to sign them.
there are also joint and con current resoultions
joint- are employed to address incidential or short-term matters once passed by both houses it becomes law the president does not need to sign them…..
Concurrent resoultions to address situations in which the houses of congress must act to together, for example congress issues concurrent to state its postion on matters of FPm as well as to apporve congressional budgets. Concurrent differ from joint in that once passed they do NOT become law. They are similiar to resloutions ppassed by the house and Senate, and the President does not need to sign.
When can we get the answer on the trivia question., please?
oh Adam…that was funny!!! need to buy something…ha ha ha!
Hi guys, remember me?
Well, this comment is on the Ricen case Adam is on now. I wanted to ask you guys your thoughts on Police “press conferences”…..they never seem to be full of much information. It always starts with the same song and dance where all the agncies pat each other on the back and indicate what great cooporation they had together..then after tthat, they give a brief summery of what we already were told by the news media….then the take questions which are usually me t with thing slike:
1. It is too ealry to comment on that at this time
2. Details are sketchy at this moment.
3. This is an ongoing investigation, so i am not at liberty to speculate.
You know, it is the same thing over and over…..
Gringo
PS: On a seperate issue, who is really buying the claim that every gunman that has gone into public and started shooting everyone up, actually “turned the gun on himself”? Maybe some law enforement agencies are trying to avoid any potential lawsuits? Personally, if someone needs to be shot, do it…but why hide it or cover it up. I want our law enforment folks shooting. that is what the gun is for right?
Adam is reporting live right now on E D’s program about the Ricin incident
Adam,
I assume your plane was hi-jacked on the way to California this morning. Are you going to be on this story for a few days???
Gringo,
Tu es loca oo que?? you answered your own question 1. 2. 3.
I guess the police don’t WANT do devulge too much info… I would imagine they need to invesitgate properly w/o interference… not sure if they always like the press getting involved.. unless they need the public’s help in something…
Just my guess.
I know what resolution means– but is voting against or for a war and voting against or for a resolution the same thing? Does one mean the same as the other?
Adam– you skipped over my question and you started this with your trivia question! LOL
Avi-
you are so darn cute! you make me laugh!
Miller time too!
terri: thanks. Sorry i’ve not been on as much, after food posioning my sleep pattern has been all out of whack, i’ll be here more once it’s back to normal.
Hey - so Susan, AZ maybe if I keep it up I’ll have a chance? ha ha!
I think after Adam covers this Ricin story he should deserve a trip down here. Plenty of stories to cover on Bike week. You name the topic - it’s there! Of course, I would only know this from what I read and see on the local news….I don’t have a bike. Kind of hoping that Adam would give me a ride down Main on his.
FL- SUN-
Persistence- persistence- persistence! LOL
You have just been broadcasted as the blackberry guru! I can just imagine now how many more people are going to hound you with blackberry questions (like you don’t have enough-already). Do your kids use blackberrys too (keeping it in the fam?-lol)?
Lets hang soon. Miss the fam.
