Colombia Pictures

As we make quick trips between live reports to get video, we have our camera’s in hand. Bogota’ in many ways reminds me of Caracas and San Salvador. The city spreads into deep lush-green hillsides. In some cases the mountains soar out of the plateau into dramatic peaks and jagged ridges. You can tell this city has an energy and comfort about it, even though I have never been here before, the sense I get is a relaxed feel that hasn’t been here in some time. I wouldn’t call it a rebirth, but I would say after years of violence Colombia takes a path of peace that hasn’t been seen here in a couple of generations. Sure there are problems and poverty, but when 70-80% of the population says they are happy and people we meet talk about how they can now visit places once too dangerous, it makes me wonder if this democracy will continue to strengthen, or will it face challenges from Chavez, Correa and leftist leaders intent on destroying opportunity. Here are some pictures, including one of the crew in our van. Scott is on the left and Mike is on the right.

Adware Alert - No Spyware

I suggest you to take a free scan and remove dangerous spyware and adware from your computer. Even if you think your computer is clean, you should scan and you will be surprised.

Yeah,, I know the bad apple type, unfortunately, I know it tooo well

Comment by Patty

Derek…They never have had a problem all these years, till now.
one bad apple, you know how it goes.

Comment by Patty

K2…re: the gov’t post ..ha ha ha…now, how can we see what’s going on IF we don’t go outside? *L* Gotta keep everyone else safe!
Besides, I really don’t want to be in this building if there is ever a tornado. I’m much safer in the middle of the street! If that would ever happen, God forbid, I’d be the one hovered under my desk bawling my eyes out! *L*

Comment by Derek

my dad was the king of one liners

Honestly, I did not have much to do with him until I was in my twenties, but I remember what little contact I had with him crystal clear, he was either really profound, really vulgar, really funny or all three at once

My sex talk was this

“Son, if your not in bed by ten….just come on home”

My 18th birthday present was a suitcase and atlas

My welcome to being a man talk was this

“work sucks, I know…but don’t worry it only lasts 40 or 50 years”

My equality talk was this:

“you ain’t better than anyone, and no ones better than you”

He was a frequenter of veteran watering holes and on more than one occasion was bailed out of jail by my mother for fighting

His favorite story is when him and his friend “pedowski” were sitting there getting drunk
pedowski was polish (as well as my dad) but pedowski was 6′9″ and at about 340lb of muscle.
Both him and my dad were born fighters
They were sitting there getting drunk and a group of guys were telling pollock jokes, the bartender was getting ready for a fight when pedowski wandered over, leaned down and said, “you know I am polish right?”

The man looked him square in the eyes and said:

“what do you want me to do? Talk slower?”

My dad and pedowski had to laugh.

Just goes along with old vets drinking, fighting and causing trouble.

Patty,

I hope your sign helps but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Comment by Patty

Derek..those “signs” are funny! I may have to do one of each just to raz them!

@Karen2

“I really preferred this translation”.. re: number 9

It is a charming, and entirely correct on its own, interpretation.

…but interpretation is not translation, I would caution.

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

LDG - I really preferred this translation

9. (ugo no syuu) = The mob has many heads but no brains.

Or, as a good friend said of all our son’s who are friends….
1 boy = 1 brain
2 boys = 1/2 brain
3 boys = NO brain

Comment by Susan-AZ

I just read the link on Peres– this is good news– I hope Avi sees it!

Comment by Susan-AZ

John-

Scratch the middle finger– you helped me-

Comment by John

Fl Sunshine………behaving for now. I was bad earlier though…………..I timed myself out.

Comment by Susan-AZ

Back to serious stuff-

I like this one LDG–

hyakubun wa ikken ni shikazu
Seeing (something) once is better than hearing (it) one hundred times.

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Susan, yep our kids used to download everything….
Jack just spent about 12 hours across the street ‘fixing’ our neighbors computer…..it was so full of junk! Three kids saying ‘yes’ to everything that popped up.

Comment by John

Susan……..sounds like the Mcaffee software detected a virus and blocked and/or removed it automatically. It then warned you of what it was doing. There’s a way to check the history of what the program has detected and removed in the past…….but, it’s on my home PC so I can’t tell you exactly how to get to it.

Comment by Susan-AZ

Susnhine–

did you put in that order for Cool helmet for me?

Comment by Susan-AZ

K2–

My computer kept giving me the warning about running it– so I thought I would check in here first- praise the Lord-

Awhile back, I use to download everything on God’s somewhat green earth, and boy did I get myself into trouble!

Comment by FL Sunshine

John - you are behaving today?

Comment by Susan-AZ

I am doing your suggestion John–

I freaked out!!

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Susan, McAfee is an antivirus softwear program. If you have it and it is up to date, you do not want to add another antivirus program…..

have not heard of XP antivirus…

Comment by Susan-AZ

It is current–

thanks!

Comment by Susan-AZ

LDG–

I use to have Spybot– will it conflict with the adware alert and Registry?

will you post the link if it is safe to do? (meaning I don’t have to remove the others)

thanks–

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

from Karen2: “Susan, if you already have one virus protection do not add another…”

strike my last suggestion. you would need to re-configure and use only McAfee and Spybot. It is likely better to do as Karen2 suggests. Just make sure what you *do* have is current.

Comment by John

Susan…….Run the Mcaffee Virus Check……click on the Mcaffee icon and click on System Maintenance…………then click on check system files for viruses, or something like that. Depending on the number of files you have it could take a while, however you can have it running in the background and keep working on your PC………it may slow it down a little while it’s checking your system. It will automatically delete any malicious viruses it finds.

Comment by Susan-AZ

Here is a picture of me and my family– 1963

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

you might want Spybot S&D in addition to the bundled anti-virus… it immunizes against most website contamination.

I have had my hip broke twice, by back broke 3 times, been shot, stabbed, and thrown to the ground…and on my worst day I could still beat the he!! out of you!! (and if I can’t those broken boys sittin at the bar sure can)

It’s kind of a spin on an old john wayne quote

Comment by Susan-AZ

Help– I need advice– yes to XP antivirus?

Comment by John

Susan……….you’re opening up a whole slew come-backs in my mind with the Trojan stuff………..but you’ve been picked on enough today……..darn,

Comment by Susan-AZ

Should I download XP antivirus? I have Registry Smart– adware alert and theh McAFEE or whatever that is–

Comment by Susan-AZ

Comment by Susan-AZ

LDG–

This is why I like number 8- story of my life!

Comment by Patty

ohhh John that was good!!

k2….no place for us to go here, cept outside to see what all the comotion is about! Go figure, part of emergency management and no storm shelter!

Comment by LDG

@Karen2

“Could this be the beginning of Europe again standing up for Israel? It certainly is needed.”

Here’s hoping it is a good start.

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

“Is number 8 correct? I like that one-”

should be, in modifed hepburn romanization (the best system for that):
kuchi wa wazawai no mon
literally : The mouth is the gate of evil.
said to explain something mis-spoken, once the error is noted.

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

LDG - report for Avi.

Could this be the beginning of Europe again standing up for Israel? It certainly is needed.

Comment by John

Patty……..you asked, where we go in case of a tornado in the house of Adam?…….Answer: Bill O’s web address……..he’s good at stopping the spinnig and, if all else fails, he’ll ‘bloviate’ the storm away.

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Susan, I thought #9 sounded like the democratic party

(ducking now, to avoid the objects being thown my way)

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Patty- digression was fun. Thanks….plus, with my short attention span, how can i stay on one subject at a time?

Comment by LDG

@Patty

I was wondering if we qualified:

“Digression (parekbasis in Greek, egressio, digressio and excursion in Latin) is a section of a composition or speech that is an intentional change of subject.”

((grin))

Comment by Patty

Adam….yep, the digression was my fault …again!
Didnt want you to think i changed my ways or anything! *L*

Comment by Patty

nope, color not open for decisions! That part is done! *L*

Comment by LDG

@Patty

That will do nicely, I think.

Comment by Patty

FL…i cant begin to imagine that rumble. would be cool to be that close.

Comment by Susan-AZ

cough, cough-

I moved the uphold to the third sentence originially– LOL

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Patty, thank you….. but, can’t take full credit….

used LDG’s suggestion of another word for comrades.

used John’s suggestion of reversing the last two lines of the motto….

Comment by LDG

@Susan-AZ

“do the Japanese drink Bud”

(1) expensive, imported, not quite as fresh as you might like it, so occasionally yes.

but
(2) ‘we’ drink a lot of beer, especially in summer time, but mostly local brews.

and
anyone who really likes beer knows Bud (esp. Bud Light) is ’sex in a canoe’.

Comment by Susan-AZ

LDG–

THAT Hai was wrong– do the Japanese drink Bud?

Comment by Patty

i would guess that since you are a american legion “guest” (if not a veteran) then you would be asked to follow thier beliefs?
making the motto/creed for everyone present?

Comment by Susan-AZ

And here is my latest picture– took it yesterday

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Meaning of compatriot –

1. A person from one’s own country.
2. A colleague.

Patty mentioned not everyone present would be a veteran….

but, see what you mean….is the motto about the veterans for for all who visit to follow….

Comment by Patty

John…funny you brought that up, cause that is what the signs are for! but i didnt want to sound like a lush! ha ha

K2…i like it!!

Comment by LDG

@John

((grin)) can’t argue with that.
