Relevance, Senator John McCain and the GOP Choice for VP

After Senator Hillary Clinton’s big wins in Texas and Ohio, Barack Obama clearly owned Wyoming Saturday…caucus-goers there choosing the Illinois Democrat with a record turnout. Still, the delegate distribution could be termed a “near-tie”, Obama securing 7 more delegates, Clinton walking away with another 5.

Senator McCain remains focused on the Mississippi race Tuesday and then Pennsylvania April 22nd…but how does he keep up the momentum for both the GOP and his plans for a McCain Presidency?

That’s what we’ll examine today in America’s Election Headquarters at 10am eastern when I host two hours with Eric Shawn.

We’ll show you a new Senator McCain campaign ad…the Arizona Senator must not only bring more conservatives aboard, he must build his general election campaign infra-structure, raise campaign cash and select a vice-presidental nominee that will attract not only republicans but cross-over voters as well.

Who do you think is the VP choice most likely to secure John McCain a victory in November?

Post your choice here!

If McCain is running against Hilliary I think he will pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson, the Senator from Texas.

If McCain is running against Obama I think he will pick Governor Crist of Florida.

My dream VP would be Peter Pace the retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, a great speaker and motivator.

Hey Jamie,
I would like to see Sen McCain pick Gov Romney, that would make a great combo,Romney knows how to make money and create jobs, and McCain can take care of the war on terrorism, they would make the right decisons for the country, what do you think about a,McCain/Romney,ticket.

McCains potential presidency could hinge upon this very decision!

People believe McCain is an honest man that will not be sold to the highest bidder. However, he lacks the charisma needed to take him to the White House. His running mate could make all the difference. He should choose wisely a person with a solid economic background and the ability to excite the populace.

Comment by McMurphy

Mitt Romney is not the proper choice. He already failed to bring out the Republican voters. He would only make a drab situation unbearably drab.

Someone more regenerative would be the wise choice.

Comment by Shirley

Sen. McCain should choose either Michael S. Steele or Charlie Crist. I think either one would be a great asset to an already dynamic candidate.

Comment by aaron

Mike Huckabee would be a great choice in terms of connection to the conservative base, and he is a better speaker than McCain. Condalezza Rice would be a wonderful vice president, but would tie McCain too much to Bush.

Comment by Chaps

I think Condi would make a great VP with McCain.

Comment by Heather

I believe that John McCain has a chance to become president, if he chooses the correct VP running mate. I strongly believe that he should choose Condalezza Rice. She would draw women and African American voters but is also a strong pull from the white voters as well!

Comment by flame

I think Dr. Candolessa Rice should be the choice for VP. She’s got it all and what a boost for his campaign. If she were VP I believe with her being McCain;s right hand, they could pull this election off.

If McCain’s new ad is intended to win over conservatives, it failed miserably with me. What a turn-off! He gave the Dems plenty of ammo to use against him—the ad features OLD men, a past time of war–not the present-day one with terrorists. How much more irrelevant could McCain appear? Just makes him look really out of touch with the present. And I am a 58 year-old conservative who voted for Huckabee. Seeing a picture of kids from the 1950’s doesn’t seem “with-it” to me.

How about Stormin Norman Schwarzkopf? National Security is at the top of most Americans list and who better to assure the future safety of American the Norman? I couldn’t see a McCain/Schwarzkopf ticket loosing against even an Obama/Clinton or is it a Clinton/Obama ticket? I know if I was runnong for President of the United States he is the ONE I would try to get .

We know that McCain and Romney made the deal the day Romney dropped out,but the best choice is Huckabee.Course Romney has the money so that makes him attractive, but Huckabee has the grass roots support John needs.Huckabee should be the nominee for Pres.but it might be to his advantage to accept the VP spot.It would certainly be to McCain’s advantage.

PS.it’s not my blog spot but it’s one of my favorites!

Comment by Richard Tracey

With the importance of Ohio to the general election I think Congressman Boehner should be considered for Vice President. He is minority leader in the House of Representatives, a dedicated conservative, an attractive candidate in both appearance and political credentials.

Comment by Tim Alger

Hi Jamie,

I think McCain should continue to hold barbeques and argue w NY Times reporters. For the most part he should concentrate on consolidating (mollifying?) ther conservative base. He will need them to come out big in November. Let the Democrats continue to fight w one another.

I would like McCain to select Romney as his VP. There is precedent for political rivals (enemies) to run together. Romney would draw conservatives into the fold. He also has executive experience in the provate and public sector. Of course I voted for Romney, as Thompson had dropped out, in the NJ primary. Finally, I am concerned about McCain’s age. I am definitely going to vote for McCain, but I am far from enthused about him as the nominee.

Tim

Hey Jamie:

I am praying that McCain picks Mitt Romney for his VP! I believe that he can bring the knowledge of changing Washington to the ticket as he was Campaigning on, and in fact do that. That would be the secret to beating either Democrat nominee! Mitt brings not only experience in the private sector, but executive experience and truly would fix a broken Washington. We need him — He was my pick for President and would be my pick for VP then perhaps go on the win the White House himself he’s our saving grace — and what a wonderful man he is!!!

Comment by Jeff

To be honest, I think Mike Huckabee would be a great VP. He was pulling in the conservatives, and he’s got a great background. I think that together they could really make a difference in the U.S. Huckabee put a lot of emphasis on changes internally and supported the War in Iraq.

Comment by Ray

Kay Bailey Hutchison will blow McCain’s progress in shoring up the pro-life vote. A much more exciting choice is available in Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. Besides providing Obama-like youth and diversity to the ticket, she has an inspiring story: success in overtaking a corrupt prior Republican administration. Yet she simultaneously appeals to every leg of the Reagan coalition. McCain himself has the strength in international affairs that Gov. Palin lacks while she has the intelligence, personality, charisma and even physical beauty that will be highly compatible with McCain while appealing to a broad range of American voters.

Comment by McCurdy

Jamie,

First the VP choice must be made predicated on the fact that McCain will NOT run for a second term. He’ll simply be too tired and old. The VP will have to be young enough and conservative enough that he/she can rally the GOP. Not Romney or Huckabee….
Gov Crist essentially locks Florida…they love him and he can speak to every American. Overall, I think he might be the best choice.

Also important: remember when Bush ran in 2000, during the campaign he started leaking names of people who might be picked as Secretaries (Powell, Rice, etc.). This was enormously successful as it got stradlers to go toward the Republican ticket. Jeb Bush to run FEMA?? Peter Pace as Sec Defense??

Comment by Sandra LD

Newt Gingrich for VP. Intelligent, well-spoken, well-written, will coalase the Conservative right
behind American Values. He really knows how to stay on message even with the likes of Hannity and Colmes.

Comment by McMurphy

Huckabee might be a good running mate.

Comment by Joel Brind

I believe Sen. McCain should choose Mike Huckabee, and soon. Even though he came up short, Huckabee’s campaign got stronger and stronger with time, with an enormous number of enthusiasic volunteers who will work their hearts out for the ticket. Huckabee also has the center-left audiences of late nite TV eating out of his hand, has beaten the Clinton political machine in Arkansas THREE TIMES, and garnered nearly half the African-American vote each time! He might have won the top slot, were it not for vicious opposition from fiscal conservatives. However, they like John McCain even less, so a Huckabee choice will still be seen as reaching out to the right (but without jeopardizing needed independent votes).

Romney never gained the trust of social conservatives, and other governors are problematic, i.e.: Pawlenty will not be needed to win Minnesota, and not choosing a good southern conservative could risk losses in southern “red” states. Carl Rove’s advice notwithstanding, Obama on the Dem. ticket will bring out millions of young and African-American voters in the south–just like he did in the primaries. Then, watch those red states turn blue!

Charlie Crist is absolutely not needed for Florida, which will not be the key battleground state this time. (I believe it will be Missouri.) Between retirees, Hispanic voters and the military, McCain has Florida easily, with or without Crist. (And if there is any doubt, Huckabee will help win the panhandle.)

As for Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Condi Rice, they are ‘pro-choice’ and will keep down the evangelical vote for sure.

Finally, it is important to make the choice soon, so that the GOP can rally around the ticket ASAP, because only a very strong and unified GOP can win in November. Otherwise, we can already seen the various camps for different contenders VP competing, and fracturing the party.

WELL THAT IS AN INTERESTING QUESTION….. DO WE GO WITH SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP FIX THE ECONOMY OR DUE WE GO WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN AROUND THIS WORLD AND INVOLVED WITH ALL THAT IS GOING? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE CONDI RICE GO IN. THIS IS IN MY OPINION THE MOST TRULY QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB. INTELLEGENT, ARTICULATE AND EXPERIENCED. I THINK THAT IN SPITE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT WE ARE FACING WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND OUR ECONOMY OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS STILL NATIONAL SECURITY. DON’T YOU KNOW THAT THE TERRORIST WORLD IS JUST WAITING TO SEE US BRING ANOTHER CLINTON IN (SO LIKE THE FORMER CLINTON YEARS) IT CAN OPERATE WITHOUT FEAR OF ANY SERIOUS ACTION AGAINST USE. OR HOW ABOUT OBAMA, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? OBAMA? WHATS HE GOING TO DO? GIVE A SPEECH?? WE DON’T NEED SOMEONE WHO THINKS WE CAN NEGOIATE WITH THESE ANIMALS. THE ONLY THING THEY UNDERSTAND IS POWER AND THE USE OF IT. GO BACK HOME OBAMA AND CHECK WITH US WHEN YOUR OLD ENOUGH TO SHAVE.

NO WE NEED SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS TOUGHNESS AND HAS BEEN IN THE THICK OF THINGS. THE PERFECT MATCH FOR MCCAIN IS CONDI RICE. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT SHE WOULD ACCEPT THE JOB.

Rush Limbaugh: Secretary of Ego run rampant

The only way I’ll vote for McCain is if he brings a big conservative name along as his VP. I’d love to see George Allen get another shot at the national scene. Sure, he made a mistake during his Senate loss a couple years ago, but the guy is a strong conservative voice and he could help McCain gain acceptance of the right. Cmon, this is America…Everybody gets another shot! I also feel that Elizabeth Dole would be a good choice if he chose to go the Woman/Minority route for his VP.

However, I feel like McCain doesn’t have enough of a backbone to go out on a limb and pick someone like Allen or another strong conservative. The guy doesn’t even have the nerve to criticize Obama because he’s scared the media will turn on him and brand him a racist or say he’s engaging in “Dirty Politics”. He’ll most likely pick one of his crony buddies like Charlie Crist, Joe Lieberman, or Lindsey Graham and the liberal media will praise him to no end for “reaching out to moderates and independents”. Then he’ll lose.

Comment by bobrocky

To win, McCain needs someone more conservative and more in touch with the social wing of the party. McCain does not have their support at this time. The best candidate for strengthening that wing of the party is obviously, Mike Huckabee.

Unfortunately, McCain is such a boring speaker and so old, Mike Huckabee will make all that all the more obvious when he begins to speak. Mike grabs a crowd. McCain bores them to death. So, I doubt McCain will choose Mike Huckabee. Probably wouldn’t be a very wise move for Huckabee anyway.

McCain/Romney would be the most boring ticket I can imagine.

Comment by Tami P.

*Mike Huckabee would be the best choice for VP 2008. The true Christian Conservative voter will lean toward voting for him if Mike Huckabee is the VP but if Mike is not the VP then a lot of us will be writing Mike’s name in. If McCain truly wants to see the Republican party unite then Mike is the best VP choice. Many Blessings!

My personal favorite pick for the veep right now would probably hinge on Bobby Jindal from Louisiana. He’s a strong fiscal and social conservative. He’s young, he’s charismatic, he’s successful and he can lock in the minority vote. He’s a lot of great things, but the only thing that’s hampering him right now is that he’s a bit too inexperienced. He’s just a former congressman turned newly elected governor of Louisiana. If this were 4 years from now, Jindal would be the lock for the veep or possibly the presidency.

But as for right now, the best choice would be Rommney or Steele. Both young and both successful, although Steele’s lacking a bit in charisma.

Oh, and for secretary of state, bring in either one of the local boys, Norm Coleman or Tim Pawlenty. They’re ready for the national spotlight and have long records of public service.

Comment by Kathy Coffee

I think Dr. Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense, will be asked to be the VP. However, if McCain wants a winning ticket, he MUST ask Mike Huckabee. He has an army of supporters that are still growing stronger, even though he has dropped out of the race. Mike Huckabee is our only hope of winning this election in November for the Republicans. Let him speak at the Republican Convention and he will put them all to shame.

Comment by Debra from Michigan

Mike Huckabee has the 30-40% of the conservative vote that McCain can’t get without him! He can’t win in November without having it all. I think we will have a Hillary/Obama ticket on the Dem. side to compete against. Mike Huckabee has the youth vote, charisma, and speaking skills to balance out what McCain lacks.

Huckabee is the only logical choice. Who won all the red states on Super Tuesday even with Romney still in the race.

Comment by Jay

Definitely Mike Huckabee for V.P. Huckabee already has a large base of energetic supporters who will ensure McCain doesn’t lose any of the red states to a Democrat this fall. My very red state is extremely enthusiastic over Obama and Clinton–not so much McCain–and I predict that my state and others could go blue this year if McCain doesn’t pick someone we can get excited about. McCain’s got the moderates sewn up–it’s the large conservative base he’d be well to be concerned about.

Comment by Diane Doughty

I feel it would be a win, win, all around if John McCain were to pick Mike Huckabee. Comment by Tim Alger

Jamie,

I meant private obviously in my earlier post.

I still like Romney as VP. Crist would be good, but only if Hillary is the nominee.

Condi Rice is terrific, but she is too identified with GWB and may cost more votes than she garners.

Watch Missouri in Nov. It has gone for the winner in every election since 1956 (when Stevenson defeated Ike by 4,000 out of 3.85 million votes–Ike won in 1952). Ohio and Tennessee are excellent indicators as well–they both went for Nixon in 1960.

McCain has to win these 3 states in November.

If not Romney, then Crist over Huckabee.

Romney’s a horrible choice for VP. His record in Massachusetts shows that he is no conservative–he raised taxes in the form of “fees,” ran as a liberal on social issues, supported a universal state health care plan in Mass. that is now floundering. The funny thing is that had he run as a moderate, he could have won New Hampshire and given McCain a run for his money. He’s a flip-flopper, and he won’t be any more appealing to conservatives as a VP pick than he was for President–although he was able to buy a significant number of delegates with his $105 million (to Huckabee’s 13 million).

$$$ is what Gov. Romney brought to the campaign–but since he’s unlikely to spend any more of his fortune helping McCain get elected (having spent $62 million of his own money already), I’m not sure how he’s going to help Republicans keep the White House.

I would hope McCain woudl choose Mike Huckabee, as he is the only chance McCain has of beating the Democrates in November. If he doesn’t choose Huckabee or someone who can get out the vote of the people who Huckabee spoke to, then he doesn’t stand a chance. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t think I am.

Comment by J. Anderson

MIKE HUCKABEE ……… Without a doubt ! He has proven his strong likability with conservatives and cross over democrats. Without a strong pro-life, pro-family VP such as Huckabee; I do not see John McCain winning in November.

As J.C. Watts just wrote about in his article “Missing Mike Huckabee already” (pahrumpvalleytimes.com) March 7, 2008 …Watts said that the issues of life, strong families, compassion, outreach and opportunity for all: they are in Huckabee’s DNA.

Mike is who he says he is and will not change his political views and be a flip-flopper with what ever is politically expedient and how ever the wind blows as for some we know. Huckabee’s over ten year record of the Governor of Arkansas, speaks for itself. He cleaned up the mess in Arkansas and changed a 200 mil deficit into an 850 mil surplus. He improved the highways from one of the worst in the nation to one of the best. He improved the education and health care systems …….All of that and more and left the state with a huge surplus…… A very gifted man with real and new ideas for America ! Huckabee drew huge support from the black community of Arkansas.

As J.C. Watts said “Huckabee’s exit leaves the Latino and black faith communities in a real quagmire because they don’t feel like McCain and the GOP are in sync with them. While they agree with the GOP on most issues, they don’t feel embraced by the party. They disagree with the Democrats, but the Dems reach out to them. Many white evangelicals are disgusted because the establishment and consultant class of the GOP are not connecting with them. This class of voters is abandoning that form of politics, but not their core beliefs.”

Huckabee has proven that he can win the Southern evangelical states (not Romney). Here in Texas ….. I talked to many, many who liked Huckabee the best…. but voted for McCain as the media told them that McCain was the only one who could win.

It is up to you JOHN MCCAIN ………. HOW BADLY DO YOU REALLY WANT TO WIN THIS THING? It is not with Condi, Charlie Crist, Kay B. Hutchison, Romney or any other name you can come up with. THINK ABOUT IT !

Comment by Loretta

I know the only way my family & I will vote for McCain is if Mike Huckabee is the VP… Mike Huckabee never put McCain down.. McCain seemed to hate Romney… Mike Huckabee treated him with respect… Whoever McCain picks should be someone we would want as president.. And, I would only want HUCKABEE………………………………………………….

Comment by Brian

I think Huckabee is the best choice. To me (and probably to countless other former Huckanuts), that would be the difference between holding my nose and voting for McCain and getting out in the trenches and working for the ticket.

I think Romney is a little too “gee whiz”, a little too blue blooded to really connect with voters. He is a fine religious and family man who pushed a lot of the right buttons with his policy proposals this time around, but I think given his extremely liberal (to RUDY’S left) time as Governor in Mass, I think this would weigh down the ticket. Combined with McCain’s clear disdain for the man, I don’t see Romney happening. I could, of course, be wrong.

If Romney is the pick then I think both of these guys lose and we will see a Huck run in 2012. I would vote for McCain/Romney, but I almost would want them to lose. I can’t think of two Republicans who have gotten more milage over stabbing conservatives in the back.

Comment by anne

Mike Huckabee should be VP. Huckabee can give one huck of a speech and knows how to energize the crowd. Mike also has cross-over appeal with his populist approach. He is not from Washington and has the most executive experience of any candidate who ran for President. He has the backing of the social conservatives. They are the ones who man the phones and go door to door. They are dedicated, and they will stand for no one but Mike. So if Mike is not on the ticket, Mac will lose BIG. They won’t go to the polls and they won’t go door-to-door or energize people. Mike energized his supporters and that is why they still donated to his campaign and stood by him in the South even though the media called it a “two-man-race”. Mike suprised people and won Iowa, not by organization, but with a message and an energised base. He spent only 13 Million in the whole campaign. Mitt Romney spent 10 million in just negative attack ads against Mike in Iowa. If Mike can go this far without money, just impagine what he could do as a VP candidate with the party behind him. I PICK MIKE HUCKABEE!!!!!!

Comment by D.A.

Many scoffed at Mike Huckabee, and as a Huckabee supporter (one in about 5 million who actually had a choice and voted for Huckabee) I am offended. You refused to see past his former years as a pastor and see how deeply he felt about many of the issues that plague America. Many people sold out their vote instead of leaning on their values. Many votes that went to McCain would have gone to Huckabee if only the media hadn’t marginalized him as some hick pastor with no real chance. He proved you all wrong time and again winning several states, millions of votes and splitting in half the states he did not win. He is a man of integrity who had many great ideas for America. He was truly concerned for the average American. Now we have tired and aged nominee, who may know war but knows nothing of diplomacy. He is for amnesty and as such will cause our borders to be insecure against terrorists. He is not a true pro-life candidate and has no governing or economic experience. America you should have quit laughing at Huckabee and listened to him He had over 13 yrs exp. Governing a state. He lowered taxes in AR over 90 times and awarded us many tax credits. The only two times he raised taxes, which by the way, was voted for by the people, were to rebuild our roads and bridges and the other was to improve our nationally failing school system. Truckers rated AR roads as some of the best and most improved and we rank 8 nationally for our schools now. ALL THANKS TO MIKE HUCKABEE.

Comment by EuropeanTraveler

Mike Huckabee, of course! He pretty much won the southern states which McCain HAS to win in order to come close to winning the election. The majority of those that are true conservatives and voted for Huckabee have stated in their comments on Mike’s website, that they couldn’t, in all candor, vote for McCain UNLESS Mike was on the ticket to represent their beliefs and convictions. Mike is a BRILLIANT communicator and has the charisma to match! Plus, Mike and McCain truly like each other…it doesn’t need to be said because it is quite obvious! That, in itself, is HUGE! On the other hand, McCain can barely stand to be in Romney’s presence….actions speak louder than words in this case. Romney…NO! That would be a mistake. He has been proven to be inconsistent and very transparent…he changes his tune by which way the wind is blowing and can’t be trusted. No, no, no…..not Romney. Rice has already, on a number of occasions, stated that she is NOT interested in the presidency or anything of that sort.

Comment by Charity333

McCain should pick Huckabee. I know of many life long Dems who fell for Mike and planned to/or did vote for Him. Mike gets the younger voters, the Christian voters and he even has a very strong pull with Faithful African American voters. He is well rounded and has over a decade of governing experience. He left AR with a surplus and a balanced budget He is fiscally conservative as well as socially conservative. The only times I can see where he raised taxes was to improve roads and schools and that was over a 10 year period. He lowered taxes like 94 times. I think that difference shows he can go a long way for less. He proved that with his modest campaign finance as well.

Comment by Gina Reed

I would work for a McCain/Huckabee ticket. I would still vote for McCain, but probably am not going to give money or time. I am just not as enthused about him as a candidate. But Huckabee has the grassroots support (of dedicated hardworking people). He is an excellent speaker, strong social conservative, won the southern states that a Republican needs to win in November (despite very little money). Both McCain and Huckabee were very civil to each other during the campaign.

Comment by Jim

Romney would never accept the position! He has stated numerous times that McCain is a ‘liberal!’ There is no way Romney would alter his moral standing for political expediency!

Romney is a man who has stood firm in his beliefs throughout his adult life and would never even consider sharing the ticket with someone who would taint him!!!

Romney saved the Olympics! Cried when the blacks were accepted by his church! Marched with the Martin Luther King! Don’t even insult his supporters with this drab!!!!

ROMNEY ROMNEY 2008!!!!!! Come on friends it’s not to late!!!

Hey Jamie:
i dont understand why MacCain is thinking so much about this topic… Mike Huckabee is the best choice for VP!!!! he has the vote of social republicans that MacCain doesnt have… we dont like him much and with Mike on his side he will win a lot of enthusiastic and loyal voters!!! because right now he is apealing to those moderate and liberal voters that when november comes they are voting democrat!! i know this for a fact, i’ve talked to a few of them… so the kind of voters that Mike Huckabee has on his side are very loyal and would stand by MacCain side regardless any media attacks if Mike is on the ticket with him… like someone in here said.. if not we are going to be voting Mike Huckabee anyways in november so.. i leave you with this thought..
i want to ask a little respect from some posters here… dont use call naming please “religious bigot” is very rude on your part and nobody here is being agressive towards anybody we are only sharing our opinions so please a little respect from you would be nice..
about Rice, Guliani and all of them … they are pro-choice and i agree they would lose the vote of social conservatives and true religious voters!!! so i dont think that would be a smart move from MacCain..!

I think McCain should choose HUMA ABEDIN as his VP. Huma Abedin, as I’m sure you know, is Hillary Clinton’s constant companion. If Hill is on the Dem ticket and Huma has been recruited to the other side, it would be a devastating psychological blow. She would fold like a cheap suit.

As it stands now, Huma Abedin could become our de facto First Lady if Hillary is elected. To learn more about the fascinating Huma Abedin, please go to:

Saying Romney understands the economy is foolish! Just because he is wealthy does not make him an economist.

He spent over 100 million dollars on his dirty campaign and still lost, walking away in debt. His socialist health care plan in Mass. is failing and their state economy is broke as a result. They are not even offering it anymore! Good, no more tax payer funded abortions!

Has anyone seen how much he spent on each vote? How will he spend our tax dollars? Does he understand how to recover our economy, or just how to create personal wealth? I doubt he understands the economy of 75% of us who work for a living. He has no idea.

He is actually an advocate of the global economy that is the problem, not the solution. We are losing jobs and dollar value because Fair Trade is not Fair to the USA! It has to be reformed and he will not do it. His companies, Bain Capital, would lose billions.

I think since Mike Huckabee has more support from Republicans than any other runner besides McCain, and he can rally social conservatives who don’t like McCain, he should be the logical choice.

Huckabee ran a brilliant grassroots campaign on less than 9 million dollars and still got 30% of the vote. Compare how he spent his donor’s money compared to Romney. He is more fiscally conservative.

He also is one of the few good guys left in politics and can win the Baby Boomers, because they are sickened by the bitterness of politics these days.

Huckabee also supports the Fair Tax, which would get rid of the IRS. It would bring jobs back home to the USA, stimulate Wall Street’s American investments, strengthen the Dollar, save Social Security and Medicaid/Medicare, bring down inflation and boost the small business economy.
At the Florida debate, McCain asked Huckabee to explain the Fair Tax. He might actually support it over time.

Mike Huckabee is young and could be a great leader for the Republican Party for years to come. Giving him the experience of foreign policy and Washington would make him more well rounded and qualified in the future. He is a great speaker and motivator, and has more executive government experience than all of the presidential candidates (over 10 years). He would be a great investment for the GOP and could help McCain rally the Reagan Democrats back over one last time.

I say Huckabee!!!!

I would prefer Mr. Huckabee or a Social Conservative over Mr. Romney to be the VP.

John mc Cain will not win without Mike Huckabee. He cannot win with Romney. There is no change or hope without Huckabee

Hey Jamie, McCain/Romney ticket,
McCain will be talking about the war on terrorism, Romney talking about how to get the economy going, and how he will create more jobs, and about the border security, and McCain, could start talking about who he will bring in to his administration, like Huckabee, Giuliani, Thompson, Powell, just a few names that we been talking about for over a year now, and we know everything about them, and we like them all, and I think they would make a very good team, what do you guys think,
will it work?

True National Primary Election Needed
Why the media and every American of voting age are not absolutely enraged (as I am) that the presidential candidates that are to be
placed on the November general election ballot will be chosen by a staggeringly small number of people is beyond my understanding. Most of the good candidates
have already been forced to drop out of this "choreographed attrition process" that is mislabeled as a primary election. A handful of voters in
Iowa, New Hampshire, Delaware and South Carolina cast their votes many weeks ago, cutting the list of candidates to less than half. The two major
political parties have kidnapped the presidential primary process from the control of the Electorate of the United States (That’s us, We the
People).
Currently, states are penalized by the Democrat or Republican parties (by stripping them of their convention delegates as the Democrat Party
did this year to the state of Florida) if they dare move their own primary dates from those dates strictly dictated by the parties. Who in the heck do they think
they are?!?!
The overwhelming majority of American voters are denied
the opportunity to cast their (meaningful) vote for the candidate of their
choice due to their home state’s primary election date being held well after the
field of candidates is reduced to one (or sometimes two). Case in point:
Kentuckians will not have the opportunity to cast a ballot for their choice
until May 20. Folks, that is 138 days after the forced attrition process has
begun, eliminating any real prospect of having a voice in this (so called)
primary election. Is it no wonder that so many Americans are disheartened and
frustrated with the lack of qualified candidates from which to choose?
The one true answer to this dilemma is for all 50
states (and voting territories) to vote on one single national primary
election day
. No one, especially a few political party bosses,
should have the right to systematically deny so many Americans their
constitutionally guaranteed right to choose their own leaders. Please contact
your senators and congressmen. Contact your state legislators. Tell them to take
action necessary to create our national election day, giving us all some real
choices. A Web site with links to our current temporary leaders is at http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml

The majority of comments seem to be Romney or Huckabee. I agree that McCain is a four year term, but Romney and Huckabee votes below their expectations.

I urge all of you to look at Michael Steele, former LT. Governor of Maryland. Well eductated, well spoken, conservative on all issues and well versed in domestic issues……a 49 year old Black man. He is awesome and has a way of speaking to the issues in a plain spoken manner, a wonderful complement to Mccain’s straight talk!!!

MIKE HUCKABEE!!!!! He won 38% of the Republican GOP vote!! If Ron Paul had not been on the ballot, I think Huckabee would have won in Texas!! MANY Huckabee supporters are saying they will NOT vote for McCain in November UNLESS Huckabee is on the ballot with him for VP.
Former Congressman, Joe Scarborough of MSNBC TV, has thoroughly examined Huckabee’s record as Governor of Arkansas. Mike is young and knows how to run a government (two terms as governor)…took care of the mess left by Clinton! HUCKABEE is an EXCELLENT speaker and debater! HUCKABEE for VP. Huckabee set the tone for this year’s race with his “vertical politics.” Huckabee is the only one who will be able to keep McCain’s temper in check. McCain just puts me to sleep. LOVE Mike’s humor.

McCain/Romney? Can you say,

“ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ?!

The ONLY way I vote for McCain is if Huckabee is on the ticket. That being said I’d hate to see Mike muddied with McCain’s messes!
