Catchin’ a Ride with Rock Royalty
We have completed our most excellent adventure of being on tour with Iron Maiden this week. It is such a thrill to have an idea of something in your head, and then have it come together so much better than you had anticipated. I have so much to tell you, but we have to get our report put together for tonight’s Fox Report. Be sure to check it out 7p Eastern!
Here is a shot we took from the soundboard at Wednesday night’s show in Puerto Rico.I will definitely blog more after we get our editing work done, but in the meantime, I wanted to share some pictures with you from behind the scenes of the story. As you know, Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden, is also piloting the band’s “Ed Force One.”
Yesterday, we boarded this one of a kind rock n’ roll tour bus in the sky, and took off for Newark New Jersey.
Here I am with Bruce getting on the plane… doesn’t he look great in a Captain’s uniform? Much different than seeing him on stage singing “The Trooper”, right?
Here’s Hollywood at his finest… getting the best shots for our report tonight
We did our interview with Bruce in the cockpit, he even let me sit with him in the pilots chair for this picture.
We went back outside to shoot my “standup” as the band and crew were loading in themselves, when the band’s drummer, Nicko McBrain walked up and surprised me with a fantastic hello as we were filming. This is a screen shot I took off our video, because I didn’t have my camera out at the time
MUCH More to come… I’ll blog more in a bit! Did I mention that a certain reporter and producer were invited to sing on stage with the band…. ?

Fencer/airplane pilot/rockstar? Man, the guy is amazing! It’s great to see Iron Maiden still getting mainstream coverage. There is something satisfying about seeing my teen heroes regarded as respected veteran rockers. They’ve certainly earned it.
Hey Laura,
This is Tim S. from your old town. (Sacramento). Looks like you are having more fun in NYC than back
here on the left coast. Kinda reminds you of the good ole rock and roll days huh? Great to see you doing so well. Drop me a line if you ever have time. I am sure to see you soon on FNC. Keep up the good work young lady.
With care, timmy
Boy, if Bono knew how to fly a 777 I think I’d just about faint.
I don’t know nearly as much about Iron Maiden as I do U2, but I know my aircraft. And it’s pretty impressive when entertainment stars like Bruce (or Travolta with his Boeing 707) show a side of them that you’d never figure they’d have. I hope I can catch Laura’s report; I’m a faithful Fox News watcher, but haven’t seen her piece. Hopefully I’ll be able to stream it off the Fox web site.
You have one of the coolest jobs on the planet. Keep us posted & say Hi to Eddie for me.
I just turned 35 and I was listening to Maiden when I was 11 years old. Not so much now-a-days. It is nice to see that they are still at it, and I’m impressed by Bruce’s range of abilities. You can never stereotype someone. I’d bet flying a plane is not the only skill he has learned besides singing over the years.
Laura, we know you are a rocker from your DJ days in Sacramento. Always enjoyed your KFI work, and very happy for your success on television~! What a great time you are having with IM, great blog entry and pix~! Rock on, Laura!~!~! \m/ \m/
(Maybe you will cover Rocklahoma for us? Please?)
Lucky you… looks like you handled the trip and Bruce’s flying like a real “Trooper”……
Of all the ’80’s metal bands and their members I’ve seen resurrected lately I must say Bruce looks like he has aged the least.
laura,
great picture of you and bruce in the cockpit. especially you. loved your segment friday night. love maiden, never figured you for a metal head. great work TT
Laura,
I forwarded your Iron Maiden pictures & report to my avid Iron Maiden friend in Denmark. He was delighted and posted it on the Maidendenmark fan club site!
Bruce is an amazing person. Aside from flying the band around, he also flies charter flights — such as for international sporting events. And during the mess in Lebanon in 2006, Bruce also helped evacuate Brits from Cyprus. Now that’s a trooper!
I used to listen to and go to Iron Maiden concerts in my younger days. I am amazed at how well Bruce Dickinson cleans up. What a difference from the old image. My 15 year old son plays bass and loves to listen to Iron Maiden as well. He is also aspiring to become a pilot. He would like to attend Embry-Riddle
when he graduates high school. I hope seeing Bruce like this will give him some inspiration. Great job Bruce!
Laura,
I envy you and Ian, I got the scoop from him on how much of a good time you guys had doing this story. As an 80’s child, I can imagine how cool that must have been, especially to get onstage and sing. Lucky you. Great story,
John
I remember buying my 1st Maiden cassette tape because the cover was so cool.
Who knew I’d like the music too!
Like Cliff B above I’m 35 and started listening at about 5th grade.
Glad to see they’re still rockin’.
They really are Long Distance Runners.
Hi Laura,
I just want to say that your a beautiful woman, and you are doing a great job,
keep up the good work.
Sal
Well, it certainly looks like a 757-200 to me…not a 777. Either way, it’s pretty freakin’ cool.
We met Niko McBrain in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago, in a music studio, where Niko was laying down some tracks with Danny Schmidt from Anthrax.
My wife comes from the same area in the UK, and Niko shared his bar of chocolate with my 6 year old daughter.
A real gentleman, he may remember my son Ben, a guitarist (visually handicapped), who also plays steel drum, and specializes in reggae-rock.
Say Hello from Dave & Sharron & kids in the Turks & caicos Islands!
Just like many posters here before me, I was listening to Maiden waaaaaay back when. I can see that the dream so many of us had back then has come true,,,that the bands we loved that had REAL talent (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth) are still going strong. Goodness, old farts and still touring, their own 757, AND an amazing looking woman like Laura tagging along for the ride…Now THAT is rock n’ roll success!!
Hey Laura, I know you need some artwork for your office in NYC. Send me an e-mail with your choice and in the mail it will go. I bet you I can send you alot of “back in the day” rock and roll pix also.
Keep up your fine job at FNC. AND we are all proud of you and all your great work. You know me
and the now grown-up rocking teens. Maybe you can get me a tour if I ever make it to east coast.
Be good and sent with care, timmy (My name is link to your choice of artwork)
