Bad Weather on the Way for the Dallas Bureau

It looks like North Texas is set to get hammered by a storm system coming in this afternoon/tonight. There’s a flash flood watch for our area through Wednesday morning.

Coincidentally, it’s flash flood awareness week. The National Weather Service says two feet of water is enough to float most cars. Don’t believe how dangerous it can be? Check out this video obtained from our Fox affiliate in El Paso.

The NWS also says more people die in flooding each year than any other weather event– have of them die in their cars.

The severe weather comes as many parts of Texas are dealing with wildfires. More than 100,000 acres have burned in 11 counties.

The storm system could help– and hurt. It helps by raising the relative humidity. It hurts by kicking up strong winds that could spread the flames further. In fact, the Brownsville area (the Southern tip of Texas near the border) is under red flag warning.

The National Weather Service says there’s “Explosive Wildfire Growth Potential” for that area through Tuesday.
