Northern Ireland
Just a few short years ago, our trip through this land would have been a treacherous one. Catholics and Protestants were at war and for TV viewers across the globe, each night meant a report about a bombing on unrest amongst the sides.
The pictures in my mind are now replaced by a stunning, much more peaceful portrait. Belfast is a city on the rise, it’s downtown is spectacular and growth and advancement is everywhere. The buildings sparkle and the mix of new and old makes this city so much more desirable than I had ever imagined. We visited the most bomber hotel in the world, or so some claim. The Europa has undergone a huge transformation, much like the city itself. Yes there are still tensions here, but the peace seems to be so prosperous, that once bitter enemies can somehow get along.
Throughout our drive through the countryside, it is very evident that Northern Ireland is building. New homes shoot out of the rolling green landscape. Along the Causeway Coast, homes and businesses thrive. We had an absolute blast and the people were most welcoming. If you come to Ireland, you cannot miss the North!

Mrs. Housley–
See how nice these people are– You would love Terri’s site– she has quite a story behind her- She did an interview on CNN and health care reform– Quite the fighter she is– and if you click on her name, you will see how pretty she is–
Patty, LDG, Jen, KT, K2, Avi, Marie, Kathy in Texas and all the others are wonderful people– and I thank Adam for allowing me to use his blog to make such valuable friendships– And of course– you know how we all love Adam–
xxxxx
@Mom
Mrs. Housley, a pleasure to make your acquaintance. You kindly asked of me and this seems the tread to reply in.
“Where is LDG & Derek from? How did you all get to blogging?”
I am ‘from’ rather many places. My nationality is U.S. of A., and I am a Permanent Resident of Japan. I came over to see this thread months ago as a way to see the discussions around some stories Adam Housley was covering at the time, and began posting during his most recent assignment to Colombia, when it became apparent that I could add something of value to the discussions here. I continue to post as I can as I have made some most pleasant acquaintances here and it is fun to help when matters get a little more complex than the usual news story.
I have been asked as to my profession and my reply is “a consultant; a Specialist in the Humanities/International Relations”. That means mostly I teach and advise clients on matters International, and provide analysis of events that may impact the client’s activities.
As to my personal life, some folks here know that I am married, am in the process of building my home, and that in addition to my charming wife my family includes four cats. With the warning that the bulk of the posts there are written in Japanese, you are most welcome to come see about all that at my wife’s web log. Her posting name is “Princess Foxy”, and you can select the topics to view by looking on the left side of the page for a Category selection and chosing House, Family, or Princess Little Mew (one of our cats “posts” her thoughts there)
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/princess_foxy/
Please enjoy, and again, it is a pleasure to meet you.
*giggling*
right on Patty!!
Ok, ya’ll are making me feel guilty! You got sappy on me! *L*
YES Adam’s Mom…….all these “guys” are the GREATEST!!
There, i feel better now…have a GREAT weekend!
Adam’s Mom..
what Susan didn’t tell you… she is the little cheerleader of the bunch and has a heart of solid gold.
She’s a little stinker, too. (hugs Susan)
Really, you will love everyone on this blog.
P.S.
Mrs. Housley:
What has made Adam’s blog work is almost like a friendship coalition– We are united in the sense we have respect for one another and we are yet distanced by a screen and our geography and given this, we are almost in a sense, united- bonded-
As absurd is this is, I have met some very nice people here whom I will always remember.
Your son has brought out the best in us and he has done a remarkable job as being the most of what quality is in a human being- And this is why we love him.
Susan
Mrs. Housley–
I know that feeling about being under the weather– I sincerely hope you feel better.
We have moved our history class, Northern Ireland to Iraq now–
My history– well it began in 1952 and it has been an ongoing thing-
All I know today is that I didn’t know much of yesterday! And I love to annoy Adam!
Genetics– Swedish/Polish–I was born in Moline, Illinois but I was raised in South America and Mexico City– My father was a geologist- So when Adam travels in these areas, I become interested as I feel a part of me is still there-
Philosophy– Don’t tell me what you did yesterday, tell me what you are doing today. (This applies to those who dwell on the past as in mistakes)
Religion- Too err is human, to forgive is divine.
My passions– Empathy and wit
Dreams– Dying and knowing what I leave with are good memories. No regrets!
xxxxxx

Hello Adam’s Mom, (isn’t it funny, once we have kids we are known by this name)
I cannot say enough good things about Adam and his blog / bloggers. He has the nicest group of people here. We discuss the topic, challenge each other - on occasion, digress, joke, and share. It is truly fun.
As for me, just a mid-west girl who moved around a lot and ended up in southern California. Married 24 years (my husband says the first 25 are the hardest!), a daughter (23) and son (20). Daughter just finished college. Son is studying in New Zealand this semester— and breaking the bank!
In January 1994 (10 days before the earthquake in Santa Clarita - our old neighborhood) we moved to Minnesota. Husband’s job brought us here. His commute when from 1 hour to 11 minutes! I left the corporate world in 1999. Ebay was relatively new, and to ensure I would not have to go back to work, I sold all my work clothes on ebay! Then the junk in our closets and cupboards. It has now become our business. So, I get to work from home and do as little or as much as I want.
We have family in the Palm Springs area, so we get out there at least one time a year. Would I move back to CA……sorry, no. After being gone so long, I do not miss all the congestion and postage stamp housing lots. One of these days, we will move to Michigan and build a home on our 16 wooded acres. That will happen after we are done paying for college - and the housing market turns around!
If there is anything else you would like to know, just ask.
Hope you are feeling better.
Happy Easter,
Karen2 or more often referred to as K2, here.
Adams Mom,
I’m 17 and i currently reside in Israel, we moved here almost three years ago from miami . I attend Israeli school full time and also take a few classes online via the university of miami online highschool to obtain an american diploma and for other obvious reasons. So yah i graduate in 09′ and off to college in the States.
oo and if you wonder why i kid of my age is here well ever since 9/11 i started being a news ” junkie,” and yah and the rest is history …. lol
good morning adam’s mom,
Patty is right, we digress, joke, discuss, argue and then get back around to the subject. We are from all parts of the world, and we all have differing views on many subjects.
We have fun on this blog:
Me? I am a 33 year old father of 3 boys. I live on the east coast, in Virginia. I am a corporate sell out, I work a white collar job in the technology sector.
I am recently returned from Iraq, I have done 2 combat tours with the army, I started out in the army as a grunt, then switched to the reserves, then I was called up twice, once in Iraq, once in Afghanistan. Because of my Infantry background, I typically end up being shuffled to an Infantry Unit during my tour, and that suits me just fine.
I have been married for 9 loooooooooooooong years (hahahaha…the wifey will kill me for that joke) to a wonderful woman, that has the patience of Job, she has to, in order to put up with me.
I ride a motorcycle to work, I vote conservative, I debate in local politics, I run marathons, I spend as much time with my family as possible, I support Veteran causes, I am a member of freedom riders, I register independent, I work hard.
I was born in Utah, the son of a veitnam vet turned electrician and a home maker. My mom always lived in utah and I spent the summers with my dad, in whatever town he was working in (new york, cali, idaho, wyoming, utah, kentucky, and more) I call Utah my home.
I am a mormon, and trying to be a good one.
I have 3 brothers, one is 41 and a truck driving neo-nazi, one is 27 and a helicopter pilot, one died when he was 7 and I was 9.
I have a bachelors degree in english-creative writing, I am currently writing a book about my years at war.
I deal with PTSD, it is a part of me, and I will talk about it, it affects me every day.
I love my family, my army buddies and life. I try to stay balanced.
In answer to the most popular questions I get asked about Iraq, I have 6 confirmed kills, 23 unconfirmed, I have put 3 really good friends in the ground and buried 7 more guys that I viewed as son’s.
Do I support the war? absolutely, anybody that has been there, has faced the enemy, has talked with the people, and been hugged by the women and children knows we are doing the right thing, not the easiest thing, but the right thing.
I will never forget the little old lady that wouldn’t stop kissing my face, my guys joked later but she just held my face and kissed my forehead and cheeks, she was so grateful to have us there.
Is it worth it? losing friends, son’s, daughters, husbands, mothers, fathers…it is such a high price to pay, but yes it is worth it.
g’morning adam’s mom and everyone.
I hope you are feeling better Mom.
Blog 101 for Mom…
When Adam (or robert..for a few weeks) posts new stories (blogs or threads) we all usually gravitate to them. Leaving the older posts and sometimes not coming back. If you go up top and click on Adam’s pictures, it will take you back to the main page. Then you can see what all he’s listed. We usually gather around the newest one. When on that main page, you can see the number of comments made on each one, if you have a memory (i do not) you can tell when there are new posts from the bloggers.
Adam will tell you it’s all in the numbers on the blog! The higher the “hits”, the better for him. I’m beginning to think he’s paid on commision! *LOL* just kidding
We generally stay on topic, but make a very large circle around it some days!… We digress often..if we wander too far off subject, Adam “gently” reminds us to get back to the subject at hand. He is very patient and funny, although… you already know that!
Somedays it is really tough to keep up, but it is so amazing what we learn!! The places Adam takes us can be the best travel there is!! I adore your son btw.
He would make any mother proud!!!
about me..
We are ex-dairy farmers, still live on the farm, but work in town. And love every minute of it.
Everyone else already knows all this…
I am from the northeast corner of KS. Married 31 yrs., Mother of 4 — 2 boys, 2 girls, we lost our youngest, Kathy, in a motorcycle accident april of 05, she was 18. We have 5 grandkids and the 6th is on the way. I grew up in a funeral home family business, my dad was Arthur also
There, a little about the blog, and me (the quiet one here ….ha ha)
Test at 2 pm! *LOL*
Anything you don’t understand…just ask! We will all answer
Hi Everyone!
Been under the weather but
perking up here soon.
Let me know about each of you.
Or can you do that with blogging.
You all sound interesting & lots of fun
but know your history etc. too!
Refreshing!
Happy Easter!
And Robert…….watch these ladies here, they’ve been dying to see you in your uniform………..and out of it. Better get some more hot towels.
Good Morning all…
Can’t stop laughing….. Hildabeast, Borat, Ralph Whatshisname!
You guys just made my morning.
Derek & John
Can’t wait till you read Robert’s blog - I am sure both of you can make a comment on the warm nuts he mentioned!!!!!
He might as well get to know you guys immediately - hee hee
Good morning everyone
Happy Spring
Our missing Robert has posted a new thread - go visit him and tell him Hello
Patty………I don’t know if having Ralph lead us would be all that bad. I mean, he could end the war because he would rely on his consumer advocate friends and deem the war as “unsafe for the consumer’s wellfare”……..He would completely eliminate corporate taxes because all US corporations would flee the country……..He would solve the illegal immigration problem because he would make gas-powered lawn mowers illegal…..thus destroying the landscaping businesses and their need for ‘cheap’ labor…….but best of all, he would minimize our dependence on oil because a country that’s gone back to the stone age needs no oil.
yeah I am beginning to think there never was a robert, adam just made him up to make us think he had friends, kind of like he makes up tamera and his mom.
You ever notice how tamera and adam and adams mom never blog at the same time, i am beginning to see a pattern here.
So, after being jipped on the robert thing, I too am beginning to think we need a refund…currency is worthless, what can adam refund us with?
Time for a basketball break
KU is #1 seed at Omaha!
Oh john..i shudder at that thought!!!
Wheeee!!!!!!! These pictures were great!!
Adam! Say hello to Tamera and your Mom is wonderful!
***ADAM***
We got shafted on posts from Robert! I want a refund! hahahahah
patty.
I hate the westboro klan as much as I do the new black panthers and the good reverend that borat listened to, they are all part of the problem and will continue to be part of the problem because they are too blinded by hate to see the truth
I think once the mud really starts slinging and all of the truths, half truths and somewhat truths are exposed there will only be one man left standing………one man that has not been heard from, one man that will make sure the Chevy Corvair will never be the Presedential Limo, one man who’s name best describes the feeling he imposes on the American public…………Ralph.
Watch out for Ralph and ‘what’s his name’……..they’re moving up……lol
Jen…i’ll go for friday today! Since tomorrow is only 1/2 a work day
derek…ouch about westboro!
grumble grumble…the state is trying to get the funeral protest bill through this week….gee, whats so hard about it? How many states have had to already…and the state the jerks come from cant even stand up to bat. grrrrr
good morning patty and sunshine-
Isn’t it fun? I mean we are just at the tip, Borat is going to watch his candidacy crumble. The press has not even begun to dig, once they do, there will be photo’s and dates and times exposed, there will be all kinds of things.
It would be like finding out McCain attended the westboro baptist church.
Hildabeast is being awful quiet about everything, it makes me think she is hiding something herself, and does not want to provoke anyone into digging into the logs that were just released.
So at this point, i think John McCain could do just about anything short of cooking and eating children and still look like the safest candidate.
I love America
hahahahahaha
Fl: so about the time i first arrived in London
I think the curved street is somewhere near Regent Street. I will have to look it up.
Jen S: But it’s not friday…
Fl Sunshine……it’s the only way I know of how to start the day
Jen S…..I hope you realize it’s only Thursday……….Friday’s are cool, but as one pessimist once pointed out to me, ” What’s so good about Fridays?……..it’s just one day closer to Monday.”
Jen - yea, love the hair….it could have been worse…it could have been BIG. lol
Derek - you and John are off to a fun start of the day!
Derek…you are a hoot!
Can’t you “hear” it now….Borat (as you call him)….proclaims …as he points his finger… “I didnt not have spiritual cleasning with that man”!!!
good morning all
birds are chirping and it is a beautiful day
I was beginning to get worried, I sat and watch the liberals pick up steam and voters, I was glad the nomination was still contentious, but hildabeast and borat seemed to be pulling the voters out of the woodwork.
The conservatives picked the wrong candidate and I felt like we were doomed.
But—cue the hallelujah corus
The dems let their true color fly (that is not a reference to borats race)
The new york mayor gets his grove on and has client #9 tattooed on his butt, the new mayor fires both barrels right after he enters the chute and the papers get released from the clinton years that say when bill told hilary he was going for that last piece of cake in the refrigerator, what he really meant was he was “going for that last piece of cake in the refrigerator”
It reminds every body of the clinton years and it makes hildabeast squirm
The Borat…oh beautiful borat, you were unstoppable, you were anointed, you had it all. then your “crazy uncle” came out swinging, all of a sudden the race card you have been playing in your favor has middle class white folk adding another deadbolt to their house, when confronted with the facts you go “huh?” you make billy proud, I eagerly anticipate the questioning “Mr Borat, do you mean to tell me, that a man you proclaimed as your spiritual mentor, never once mentioned that he hated white people?” and in his defense mr borat replies “define never”
I bet that Bill Clinton, will be giddy at watching him squirm, maybe he will sign on as his legal counsel.
Ah yes, the birds are out today and derek is happy, the wheels are coming off the bus in the liberal camp and it is going to be fun to watch the political maneuvering, as other dems try and seperate from them.
I can hear it now “I may have voted for Obama, but I see now it was a mistake, and I regret my vote” so similar to the Iraq war.
bwahahahahahaha
FL Sunshine-
Cute pics! Yep, I would have guessed the 80’s based on your hairstyle.
John— Is this fun Friday? cute jokes.
Q: What grows between your nose and chin?
A: Tulips
Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!!
K2…and FL…. Amanda isnt that good, but i just enjoyed her. I get tired of the goodie two shoes…lah ti da types…im always partial to the rebel
I know there are definlty better singers than her, but they keep saying this is the best year yet with talent…i disagree!! There has been much better talent in years past than what is on the stage this year. IMO
Oh im thinking too hard for this early! *L*
g’morning everyone.
must go do payroll…i’ll be back.
One more that’s not anal related…………from the same web site.
The scene is the Garden of Eden. God called Adam to him and said, ” I will now teach you how to kiss.”
“God, what’s a kiss?”, asked Adam
” I will show you,” said God, and he proceeded to teach Adam everything he needed to know about kissing. Whereupon Adam went to Eve and they kissed for a while.
God called Adam back and said, “I will now teach you how to make love.”
“God, what is love?”, asked Adam
“I will show you”, said the Lord and he taught Adam everthing about making love.
Adam went to Eve, but almost immediately returned and asked, “God, what’s a headache?”
Sorry, forgot to give credit where credit is due……..
The above joke came from askmen.com’s “Joke of the Day”
Something to cheer you up……….
” Embedded Phone ”
This guy was in a bar talking to his hand. The bartender came to him and said, “I don’t want any weirdos at my bar. I might ask you to leave.”
The guy said, “I’m using my cell phone. I got tired of carrying it so I had it embedded into my hand.” The bartender did not believe him, so the the guy had the bartender dial the number and then talked into his hand.
” How cool “, the bartender said.
As the evening went on the bar got more crowded. The bartender looked up and noticed that the guy was gone, but his drink and cigarretes were still at the bar. The bartender got worried and went looking for him. He found the guy on the floor of the bathroom with his pants down to his knees and a roll of toilet paper up his butt. The bartender asked, ” Are you OK? Who did this to you?”
” I’m OK “, the guy replied, ” I’m just waiting for a fax.”
John - you are funny (but the story isn’t). Poor lady! I’d sue too!
Good Morning to you!
So, if this is how Obama felt about Imus’s remarks….why does he not have the same reaction to his pastor’s remarks? hmmmmmmm Is not the definition of a racist a person who doesn’t treat people of different colors equally?
Check out his response about Imus’s remarks.

Good morning, BTW
Susan & Max - the photos were taken in the late 80’s. We took a trip to Europe for a Humanities college course. Had a blast but because our professor was a Black Panther the boys got good grades - us girls did not.
Max - that is my brother in the photo by Big Ben but that is NOT my brother in the castle photo. lol
Patty - not sorry your girl got voted off idol. jk I didn’t like her though.
Weather this morning is quite yucky however, I believe it will clear and we will have our Sunshine this afternoon with cooler winds blowing in from the north. Feel very sad as I view the photos of all the flooding in the midwest.

Indeed I did. Rabbles are useful, but lazy. Just ask any politician in a country with ‘democracy’.

FARC’s Terrorist Diplomacy
By Jonathan Winer
If the information in the laptops seized by the government of Colombia following its March 1 cross-border raid into Ecuador proves to be as authentic as it appears, Colombia’s FARC guerillas have developed an extensive political network to supplement their criminal and terrorist activity, with important nodes including the political leadership of Ecuador and Venezuela.
According to the material released to date in the Colombian press and currently being analyzed by a team sent to Colombia from INTERPOL, over the past decade, FARC had reached out to the governments of a number of countries in an effort to develop strategic alliances directed against Colombia and against the United States.
Texts of letters and other documents found in a computer that Colombia says belonged to FARC leader Raul Reyes have been published in the daily Bogota newspaper, El Tiempo. The correspondence includes letters from FARC’s leaders to Venezeulan President Hugo Chavez and to Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, as well as memos to FARC leadership describing diplomatic initiatives involving senior officials of Ecuador. They also outline a wide range of terrorist and criminal activities, such as FARC’s efforts to obtain surface-to-air missiles from Libya and uranium from an unnamed broker; the status of its approach to using its hostages to secure the release of guerilla fighters and narcotics traffickers from prisons (including from the US); its direct involvement in drug trafficking as well as in taking payoffs from drug-producing areas and traffickers; and a window into its propaganda campaign and efforts to justify its actions.

NEFA Foundation: New Bin Laden Audio Transcript and “Target America” Report
By Evan Kohlmann
An English-language transcript of Usama Bin Laden’s latest audio recording (released late this afternoon), titled “May Our Others Be Bereaved Of Us if We Fail to Help Our Prophet”, is now available on the NEFA Foundation website. During his speech, Bin Laden once again condemned the publication of cartoons in Denmark deemed offensive to Islam, and the subsequent defense of their publication on free speech grounds. According to Bin Laden, “if there is no check on the freedom of your words, then let your hearts be open to the freedom of our actions… The answer is what you see, not what you hear.”
Separately, NEFA has also released the fourteenth installment in its “Target: America” series, examining the planned 2004 attack on the Herald Square subway station in New York City. Working closely with an NYPD informant, whom they believed would provide explosives, conspirators Shahawar Matin Siraj and James Elshafay plotted to bomb what U.S. Attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf labeled “one of the most active public transportation hubs in America.”

Rep. Jack Murtha Endorses Hillary Clinton
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 8:39 PM
By: Kenneth Williams Article Font Size
Rep. John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam veteran who caused an uproar on Capitol Hill in 2005 by calling for an end to the war in Iraq, announced Tuesday that he is supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president.
Murtha, a Democratic congressman since 1974 is a retired Marine colonel and leading voice on defense issues. He was the first Vietnam veteran elected to Congress. The New York Times writes that his support could help boost Senator Clinton’s argument that she has the best experience to be commander-in-chief.
Murtha is also one of the so-called superdelegates, prominent party officials and elected leaders who can side with any candidate. More have chosen to support Clinton than Obama at this point, but many are still undecided.

Cuba, Venezuela accuse US of shielding “most notorious terrorist of the Western hemisphere”
Cuba and Venezuela criticized the U.S. on Wednesday for failing to hand over or prosecute an alleged terrorist accused of masterminding the bombing of a Cuban jetliner in 1976. The United States insists it is acting legally.
The case of Luis Posada Carriles _ a Cuban-born Venezuelan citizen who has been a Venezuelan security officer, a soldier in the U.S. Army and a CIA operative _ was raised during a U.N. Security Council meeting on efforts to combat terrorism.
Cuban Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz called the 80-year-old Posada, a militant opponent of Fidel Castro’s communist regime, “the most notorious terrorist of the Western hemisphere.”
He said there is sufficient evidence linking Posada to numerous crimes, including the bombing of the Cubana de Aviacion jet over Barbados that killed 73 people.

Circus Square is Piccadilly Circus i believe.

The one with the giant flags in is of The Mall, which is infront of Buckingham Palace.

When were they taken? Doesn’t look like too long ago.

Hillary’s 11,000 page of her activities at the White House- I feel sorry for the people who are reading this– how many pages are tea parties? She said when she was in Bosnia at the time, she had to run to dodge bullets or whatever was flying over her– By the footage I saw of her and Chelsey, the only thing she would have been dodging are handshakes-
McCain is on his way to England– I didn’t see his Stepford wife Cindy with him in Israel– I do think he was sincere in his talks about wanting Israel to restore peace– Those Palestenians (according to a poll) like shooting into the Gaza and don’t want any peace– As a matter of fact, I hope McCain becomes our President– He is the only one who makes any sense- I wish he could borrow Mrs. Bush for the first four years- I really like her as First Lady.
Bin Laden has a new video out– More threats now to the Pope and Europe–
The poll on extra marital affairs- 54% said they were not so concerned about the new Governor in New York having these multitude of affairs– So I guess if you want to run for governor in New York just make sure you have had some affairs–
Wildfires in Southern Texas- DFW airport is a mess–
Flooding in three states–
China and Tibet are a mess– Helloooooooooo China– Olympics??
And Adam has an imaginary friend– his name is Robert!
MAX - see if I have the right link with my name here for you to view my England photos.
Avi: stay safe. Isn’t your brother enlisted in the Israeli Military now?
I’m out,
2 things:
I keep on reading from some reliable and some unreliable sources that a Massive war is about to break out hear in the next few days …..
I doubt that:
1. if so Israel would let the people know to prepare
2. reserves would be called up in mass
Could it brake out sure :
1. the 40 days are over this weekend
BuT THE media here arnt talking about it
foreign outlets are more
only one article in the mourning online from the Israeli press ( each)
Keep in mind theres that big meeting in Syria of Arab Nations in the next two weeks… soo that meeting might be the time theyd attack because it would unite the arab world according the Debka and others….
And just think how quick the war 2 years ago started on a normal day and caboom war began just like that …..
Thank God all bulidings in Israel got bomb Shelters ( including our place)
Adam…i hope that Robert is ok…no stories from him?
