New Job?

Gotta love these. I was passed this along, true actions of those looking for a place to work. This should lighten your day a bit. My brother and dad also have some great stories of a few who have come up with some amazing ways….not to get hired. Feel free to add your own stories.

The list, based on a survey of 3,061 U.S. hiring managers and human resources professionals by research company Harris Interactive, found the top 10 most outrageous mistakes were:
- Candidate answered cell phone and asked the interviewer to leave her own office because it was a “private” conversation.
- Candidate told the interviewer he wouldn’t be able to stay with the job long because he thought he might get an inheritance if his uncle died — and his uncle wasn’t “looking too good.”
- Candidate asked the interviewer for a ride home after the interview.
- Candidate smelled his armpits on the way to the interview room.
- Candidate said she could not provide a writing sample because all of her writing had been for the CIA and it was “classified.”
- Candidate told the interviewer he was fired for beating up his last boss.
- When an applicant was offered food before the interview, he declined saying he didn’t want to line his stomach with grease before going out drinking.
- A candidate for an accounting position said she was a “people person” not a “numbers person.”
- Candidate flushed the toilet while talking to interviewer during phone interview.
- Candidate took out a hair brush and brushed her hair.
As well as asking about the most unusual blunders, employers were also asked about the most common and detrimental mistakes candidates made during an interview.

More than half — 51 percent — said dressing inappropriately was the biggest mistake a candidate could make in an interview.

Talking negatively about a current or previous employer came in second at 49 percent and third in the list at 48 percent was appearing disinterested.

Other mistakes included appearing arrogant, not providing specific answers, and not asking good questions.

My favorite was a guy that showed up in a horribly wrinkled suit, alcohol on his breath, and a horrendous body odor.

My boss took one look and refused to even interview him, the guy demanded a face to face rejection.

My boss walked out, looked him in the eye and said “you want a job? don’t sleep on the floor of a taxi cab before you interview”

The guy just left, it was unreal.

Rev. Wright was getting rave applause and standing ovations……

Two young college grads are were applying for one open position at a world renowned computer engineering firm. They were both equally qualified ( as a matter of fact they had graduated together from the same university with the same GPA ) and both interviewed very well during their interview process. They were so identical that the personel manager was at a loss at which one to choose for the opening. In the name of fairness, the manager decided to give each a ten question written test……….best score wins the job.
Luck would have it that both got just one question wrong. After reviewing the answers again the manager walked up to one of the applicant and said, ” Based on the answers given, we’re going with the other gentlemen for the position. ”
” How can that be?”, asked the dejected applicant. ” We both got nine right……why does he get the job and not me?”
” It’s not the number of questions you got right, but the answer you gave to the wrong question that determined my decision”, said the manager. ” You see, he answered question number 6 wrong because he wrote down “I don’t know” ……you got the same question wrong because you put ” neither do I “……….”

This is a true story- something I did–

Like always, I was running late- I had to be at work at 7:30 A.M. and this morning I was way behind– I went to work with my curlers in my hair- I got there on time but I had to do my hair there–

Everyone I worked with were cool- so we laughed about it–

Susan: I used to always be late. I used to go to this art class and i used to leave home when the class started, normally it’d take about 20 minutes to get there. Once i managed to leave 30 minutes before the class started. I got there even later than i normally did because the traffic was so bad it took the taxi 1 hour to get there!
Later i’d leave late and never once was i delayed so badly.

Max–

I just haven’t figured out how to be on time! And I don’t do it on purpose. I just can’t get me out the door when I am supposed to- I check the stove (gas) about ten times to make sure nothing is on- By the time I get done checking everything about ten times, I am like behind- the dentist won’t even give me the correct time when I schedule appt’s- They give me about an hour’s earlier time so I am there on time- LOL

I was always really impressed with the people that brought their McDonald’s or Burger King with them when they came in for interviews.
(impressed with their lack of sense)
