TECH TUESDAY….bring on the Micro!
The ability to capture and store pictures, video and even music will eventually fit on the end of your pencil, or at least it seems that way. Take for example SanDisk, which recently hosted a launch of its new MicroSDHC card. Here’s a picture of the card which can fit on the tip of your finger.
The new cards can literally sit on the end of your finger and hold more information than cards twice twice the size. The new tiny cards work in cell phones, music players, hand-held computers, digital cameras and for example the 8GB microSDHC card can store more than 2,000 digital songs, or more than 5,000 high-resolution pictures, or up to 5 hours of high-quality MPEG 4 video2.
You can find them in retail stores now and you’ll start to them more widely each and every day, so be prepared. Adapters make them fit into your current camera, phone, etc. We got to try them out a few months back and I wanted to wait until I started to see them showing up in all the stores before giving you the latest.
So far I have tried them and purchased a couple and have been happy with the results. The small size does make you take a very close look, as misplacing one would be very easy to do. According to SanDisk, by offering capacities of 6GB and 8GB, the company enables people to enjoy more photos, more map data for navigation, more videos, more games and more music, wherever they go, on any phone with a compatible microSDHC slot. During our trial, the company gave us a Nokia phone and provided bands like Linkin Park. This video is still stored on my card…take a look.
More info from the company release…..follow the link. This comes from SanDisk:
SDHC is the designation for any SDTM or SD-based card that is larger than 2GB and adheres to the new SD 2.00 specification required for cards and hosts to support 4GB to 32GB capacities. The specification was developed by the SD Association, an industry standards board, which has also created three classes to define minimum sustained data transfer speed. These cards adhere to the SD Speed Class 4 Rating3.
In addition to microSDHC, SanDisk offers a broad range of both embedded and removable storage solutions for mobile handset manufacturers and mobile network operators. Product lines include iNANDTM and mDOCTM embedded flash drives and microSDTM, miniSDTM, Memory Stick MicroTM M2 and MegaSIMTM cards.
SanDisk is the original inventor of flash storage cards and is the world’s largest supplier of flash data storage card products, using its patented, high-density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is headquartered in Milpitas, Calif., and has operations worldwide, with more than half its sales outside the U.S.
Wow. that’s bigger than the harddrive i got on my first PC 9 years ago at the end of 1998.
It was like 7.65 gb or something around that.
Key words– misplacing them easy to do– This would be me and then I would need a magnifying glass to even see it as small as it is– (poor eyesight comes with age, Adam– wait and see- :D)
What is the price for this gizmo?
Mrs. Housley:
Did you even understand any of this? I sure didn’t!
Susan
Susan-AZ
Adam has been a big help-as is his
brother on helping me with the small
disks. Right now they got me for
mothers day last year digital camera,
(my second) and I take loads of
pictures-delete the ones that I can
and process them through my computer-print
them & use them in scrap booking and cards etc.
It really is lots of fun-Adam got me started.
I am with you on the losing part though! That
seems awful small & to lose it would be awfully
easy. My disk now is barely 1 inch square-if that
and I have to be careful!
Hi Everybody!
Susan: I looked for your info on the project & couldn’t
find it! Sorry-still a novice!
Hey everybunny!!
All that stuff is too confusing for me..
I let my hubbie do all that… he eventually teaches me how to use it later…
I recently learned how to get pics off my cell to my computer….
that was a major deal!
My hubs is a huge junkie for this kind of thing.
Adam..speaking of memory…music…do you remember telling us waaaay back that you had idol behind the scenes to share?
btw, I understood.
Just had to go all through this a few weeks ago trying to get my boss to understand his new phone. Those cards are SO little!!
He too knows how to get his pics off the phone now, like Terri.
ADAM, next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Fish and Game Wardens are going to Sacremento enmasse to lobby the state government over the further reduction of game wardens and lack of money for hiring new ones. It should prove to be really heated as last year they were supposed to be given about 30 million increase for equipment repair and special operations OT and they only recieved about 1.5 million due to some sneaky dealings in the state government employee practices. The rest was taken away and used for another department in California. I sure do hope you can do a story on the California DFG.
Mom Housley–
I need a son like yours to teach me these things. My daughter is good at this too. She helps me out but she gets impatient with me because I have this “duh” look on my face! She spent over an hour last week organizing my pictures here on the computer because I had them everywhere so now these are in files and labeled correctly.
Adam has a natural knack for taking good pictures so I am assuming he inherited the gene from you!
Do you read the e-mails sent to the winery? Or does Adam? I just need one thing from you and I don’t know how to get it– and I also need your permission to do this. I know you will approve- (project)—As a matter of fact, I think you will get a kick out of it- Adam does not have one of these nor can he get it- How about if I send an e-mail there and put on the subject line- for Adam’s mom only?
And you can’t look Adam!
Adam- How many gadgets do you own? And what is going on with Surfer’s story? You said you had contacted New York before you went on vacation–
Terri– I am so glad I am not the only one who needs help!
I am so behind with the times!
I am old so I get to get away with justifications! My cell phone is just a basic one- I had an upgrade but I couldn’t see the numbers so I am using my old one- Nice thing about this, no one will steal it because it is not cool enough!
Adam–
Does Robert Shaffer ever read the comments on his threads? He has some very interesting posts there-
I just want to know what he had for dinner– He is funny!
xxx
P.S. I wish New York would get the spelling to his last name correct– Shaffer- or does he spell it Schaffer also? His articles I read on the net have his last name as Shaffer-
I picked up a couple of these 6Gb SanDisks a few weeks ago and they work great. I shot some cool videos using just the video mode on my digital camera.
I’ll post some of them here once I verify that everybody in them is at least 18 years old………and/or has parental consent.
I think this is a great question…….” Where is the bailout for Main Steet America?”……..
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/JubaksJournal/WheresTheBailoutForMainStreet.aspx
G’morning Adam and all.
Very good article John!
And KS once again voted down last week, to raise it’s minimum wage. We are the lowest in the country. Sad, sad, sad. Then our local small towns wonder why they can’t keep our young kids here after high school. There is nothing for them to stay here for!
From a story we talked about last week…did you all see Walmart is letting the disabled woman keep her inusrance money?
And there is a “feel good” story… very close to where i live….
http://www.wibw.com/news/headlines/17116501.html
Patty……..Jennifer and Nick live in a very appropriately named town for what they are doing for those kids……….Home,KS
Maybe our Fed Chief read the same article I posted above……..I see he’s almost admitting we’re in a recession. It’s scary that people like him are so powerfull, yet so out of touch with reality.
John..interesting on the last page of that article. It doesnt point out that the reason farmers are planting less corn is in fact, because of the fertilzer prices in the first place. In 2 years time, fertilzer here has more than tripled in price. It more cost effective per acre for the farmer to plant soybeans. We fertilize our brome hay every spring, its standard procedure, you definitly come out head after you have put up they hay with increased tonage. This year however, we are shaking our heads, not knowing if it is worth it or not. The jury is still out at our house. We don’t know what to do. If it is a dry year, then there wont be much hay anyway, but if it is a year with plentiful moisture the fertilzer “might” pay for itself with addes tonage. Either way, we still have to include the increased fuel costs of putting the hay up, regardless of moisture, it still has to come off the fields. Never easy for a farmer, too many variables.
“There’s no place like Home” …is on a huge sign on the edge of town.
Patty……..Do you use organic or chemical fertilizers? Or does it not make a difference when it comes to costs?
Sounds like you will either have to charge more for hay, or create a shortage by not growing. Either way ( whether the farmers decide to grow or not ) it looks like food prices will continue to rise. You’re right, tough decisions………and here us city slickers thought all you farmers had it easy…….do a few days hard labor and then just sit back and did watch the crops grow.
John…we have cows, therefore we have cow manure, which is free.
We use both. Manure is high in nitrogen, its easy to burn your crops if you arent carefull. We rotate which fields we haul it on, that way the N part of the fertilizer isnt too high. We use chemical fertilizers to get the phosphorus and potassium. Manure’s rate of usable nutrients varies, it easily leaches with rain water to where you have nothing but a pile of p**p and worthless. So depending wholey on organic is not a good thing.
Good morning all
Patty - I saw on the news this morning that Kansas is in for some nasty nasty weather. Is it OK where you are???
Adam,
I read in your notes above that you can get more than 5,000 pictures off your camera using this magic chip.
Question - Are you going to post at least l/2 of them for us to view???
Patty…….I obviously know very little, if anything at all, about farming. Thanks for the info……
I’m also glad to see that it was you, and not me, that digressed this thread from high-tech chips to cow chips…….or is that pies?
I got SUNDISK ON MY PHONE !!!!!! LOL
Adam, yes we watched Idol lastnight, sorta kinda. Not much of a Parton fan, but i thought Syesha (sp?) and David A were very good. Wasnt impressed with the rest of them.
KC…threats of severe storms? I know we have chances of rain tonight and tomorrow, but hadn’t heard any more than that. Tis the season for “tornado alley” (the typical path is south of us, closer to the interstate).
Its just overcast here. Nothing falling from the sky
Adam… we don’t ALL the pics…just HALF! *L*
are you glad to be back? or is it one of those “why did it have to end to soon” feelings?
John…re: sitting and watching crops grow…if i were still a dairyman….those could be fighting words! But since I’m a “city farmer” now….I’ll laugh with ya!
Our dairy days started in the barn at 4:30 am and didnt end until dark or well after, depending on the season. The days where the weather was bad, either blowng snow and minus degrees to the 100 degree, humid days in the summer…were the worst. Those are the ones that would look to be the “stay in doors” type of days and rest. But it was usually the opposite. If stuff was going to go wrong or break down, it usually did on those days, and kept you in the elements what seemed like “forever”.
We sold out our dairy 13(?) years ago….i’ve always said that if hubby ever thought he wanted to milk again, that i was sure he and his 2nd wife would have a blast. Cause his 1st wife is going there! *LOL*
Adam–
Just send them to me and I will take care of it– And as for time– between trying to figure out where you are, how someone spells their last name, and taking classes with LDG as my instructor, I have little time!
FYI- (thinking about Tom Jones in Hawaii) today is World Awareness for Autism-
Terri– did you see Glenn Beck yesterday? Boy oh boy- He showed a snippet from Obama at a talk where he was at telling kids on the ramifications about losing their morals- He stated he as a parent instills to his daughter principals and morals. But the ramifications of not listening would be their being punished by a baby. (I guess he was talking about teen-age pregnancy) Boy did Beck cut loose a cannon- He called this poor wording. Beck said his third child is adopted and the mother was a teen-age girl and his son is nothing short of a miracle- Obama should have been pressing the issue of- consequences and taking responsibility for one’s actions but to use the word punished…..
He also showed how Hamas has his own television show which is viewed by children showing the kids how to hate Bush–
Patty- Wal-Mart dropped their claim against the lady who received the medical coverage through them- (adverse publicity) They are revising their policy so more discretionary power can be applied. I did not know Wal-Mart is the second company for charitable contributions.
Bush has asked NATO to send more troops to Afghanistan.
Some Jamaican got popped a couple days ago trying to board a plane at the Orlando airport carrying the makings for a bomb-
K2– Beck is doing a special tonight–Furor over Fitna-
And KT has some great videos on her site–
Phew–
John-
I’ll post some of them here once I verify that everybody in them is at least 18 years old………and/or has parental consent.
————————————————————————-
You better get the parental consent!
WOW susan…that was awesome! *L*
You need a nap!
ha
FYI…since it is a tech thread *G*
Kansas is the first in the nation to create a government accountability website…
http://www.kansas.gov/kanview/
I’m impressed
Everyone-
I have to get my brother and dad to write me out some of their stories. They have some unbelievable accounts of people applying for jobs.
Adam
———————————————————————————————————-
I hope I am still alive when this happens– You still haven’t even answered what the biggest headlines were for 2007 and where do you fit in from the Question Mark thread- Emily and I sat on that thread for weeks-
Maybe your mom can post a story–
Kansas is the first in the nation to create a government accountability website—–
I am glad you posted that- I opened it and saw numbers and scratched my head-
Patty–
I do need a nap– I watched Glenn Beck last night after I got done doing my homework on the Iraq thread-it was 3:00 a.m. when I turned off the tele and then I got up this morning to continue with the weed pulling– I am sick of weeds– those little ones- I had to pull them out from in between the pavers- I am having a BBQ on Sunday and I am trying to make my yard pretty- ugh!
My pomegranate tree has the prettiest orange flowers coming out from the buds!
Susan… how about a pic of that tree… i dont think they will grow in KS. Cant say i’ve ever seen one in bloom. I’m jealous.
Oh Patty- I thought about you–
Some lady who has an autistic son set up a program so every Friday parents of autistic children can play basketball. It was awesome to see these kids play. Apparently one of the benefits from this, aside as to them being involved in sports, are the socialization skills these kids are learning-
Great strides for autism!!!!
I just took a picture– let me see how it came out–
be right back!
My lavendars are in bloom too- the hummingbirds are having a feeding frenzy! they come early- eat and take off! (well- two of them)
FYI Adam I got a heads up to watch what OK did for illegals. It seemed to work, they have all gone to Houston! You need to lobby to follow this plus the Game Warden. Right now they are swamped with work.
I want that chip but now my stuff uses the bigger chip. I did buy a Nikon check out my blog for the new pix with it Tremendous really. I even did a slide show!
Patty-
http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh165/susan1az/?action=view¤t=Picture205.jpg
Susan, that is terrific with the kids! I’d love to watch, how fun! There are so many life skills taught through sports at that age. Besides that, the kids don’t realize they are learning, they just enjoy playing!! Autism is so confusing. I just can’t imagine what the parents go through. So many “whys” and not enough answers. Awareness is a big thing!!
Kathy: You can get a converter. But they probably come with one. When i got given (by the guy who sold me my phone) a 500mb mini SD card a converter was in the box with it.
The micro one should come with converters too.
That is so pretty susan!!!
Hey…we do have a plant in common! That dark purple one in the corner…dont know the name of it, i have a huge pot of it! I took it upstairs last fall..(well hubby carried it)…….the trails are so long… i have no clue how i’m going to carry it down now! *L*
Patty–
I am so glad autisim is not something you hide in the closet- I told you about my friend I worked with, Brandy- Zack, her son is autistic, so I had a first hand experience about autistic children as I use to hang out with her—
Also- in this special- a study showed (but not conclusive) premature babies show a 25 percent chance of being autistic– could be a contributing factor (prematurity) —-
I love digital cameras! But I rarely print pictures anymore.
I have 8 photo boxes of all my pre digital pictures all in order and marked. Irreplaceable.
It would be hard to grab those and run out of the house in the event of a flood or fire……the sandisks make that a little easier. We have started to not delete the pictures on the disk and are keeping them in a fire proof safe.
Kathy -
Saw your new pictures and slide show last night on your site—
I will comment here — Fab!!! Your dog pics are great!
Susan- Beautiful pomegranate tree - can’t wait to see AZ again in real life!
Susan: the eldest son in the household we stayed with in Atlanta was autistic, but he was resistent to getting out of his problems as well, the rest of the family all knew he understood more than he let on.
An example was when his eldest sister and her boyfriend took me and him to the mall he was always looking at the purses, on the way back he was holding onto her purse, and wouldn’t hand it back so she could pay for a meal, so her boyfriend said ‘he’s only into expensive purses, he’d give this one back if he knew she got it at the discount store’ and he did just that.
The only way to get him to try and improve his condition was to make a game of it.
His mother said she thought he liked being babied.
The dark purple plant was a clipping from Ken’s mom’s yard- I have them all over the place- as well as a spider type plant- they endure everything- By the way- I did all that work in the backyard by myself– it was nothing but dirt and weeds when I moved in- It still needs much more work- I need to get a couple citrus trees to plant- I am going to buy a couple this Saturday and the boys don’t know it yet when they come over Sunday– they are digging holes for me!
The name of the purple plant is a type of wandering jew–
Jen–
I can’t wait for you to come– and I hope you can do an overniter!! Lydia and Harvey will be settled in their home so we will have a great dinner and cards after I run you around to see some sites!!
Max-
Zack had a thing for paper- once he had some paper in his hands, there was no letting go!!!
I am buying a new digital camera next week- Danielle is coming over for a couple days and I really like her camera- it is small and a flat screen type- not bulky like this fifjifilm one I have- so she is going to help me pick one out as she is sharp at this! I still haven’t learned how to use this one and I have had it for two years!
Susan to Adam– (shaking her head)
You don’t think taking a picture wasn’t work? And I sure as heck didn’t get a bike for pullling weeds!
Patty!!!
I think we will wave goodbye to Ramiele tonight.
Great tie into American Idol BTW!
Susan
P.S. Ken told me to tell you, Adam, to come and get him!
Jen—
by then I willl have my new camera and we can take many pictures of us together- LOL
I do have to take you to the State Capitol for a tour and we can have lunch downtown– lots of great places for eating! I wish you were going to be here longer- you would love our State Park-
Boyce Thompson Arboretum-
Susan..i thought that was the name…but didnt know if it was “politically correct”…so i didnt type it! *LOL*
OMG– Jen- I just saw your image– LOL about hundred times–
everyone- click on Jen’s name!
Patty–
hence, my not captilazing it–
Susan: he also loved playing with water. He also knew when we were leaving, as he gave me a hug, he was going out for the day, but i think he knew we weren’t going to be there when he got back. I think a lot of it is that they are fearful of being inpendant.
Max–
these kids are pretty sharp- Sometimes parents baby their kids too much in the sense of over protecting them– for example–
My cousin has twins- the girls have Down Syndrome- they are high functioning– But these girls lack in discipline- they have all come to visit me twice and I am telling you, talk about sleep deprivation- The girls are allowed to stay up ALL night and then sleep all day- these girls graduated from high school- they know how to use the computer- read- and write- these girls should be placed in some vocational type of schooling so they learn a skill- but they pretty much run the household- They get their way-
I had no sleep when they were here- The girls were running the whole show- I even had to get one of them out of a bathroom stall one evening when we went out to dinner. She got angry at her parents and went and locked herself in a bathroom stall as people were in the bathroom trying to figure out what the problem was- I asked my cousini what to do and the answer was- she will come back– To me this was no solution so I had to go get her out after trying to coax her out, I finally yelled at her- And then I got into trouble for using discipline– The girls would take off late at night and I would have to go look for them- I was not a happy family member- and relieved to have them gone–
Max…i think you got it there…independence is very scary when you’ve been “coddled” to some extent.
Thats a tough line to draw with any kid, especially disabled kids…baby them or use tough love. It’s tough to choose.
I guess thats why hubby and I “work” well together. I’m the harder side of discipline, he’s the easier side (not too easy tho)…it evened out in the long run.
Susan…when in my house, its my rules!
Patty–
I am like your husband– too laxed– but enough is enough- my cousin and I parted not on great terms- I lost my temper at the restaurant- I reminded him I would not go into his house and expect them to take care of Ken- And I downed two margaritas real quickly! LOL
Susan & Patty: Yes, i think with a disbabled child parents are often loathed to disciplin them or teach them restraint, as they don’t want to make life worse for their child; and as they already do so much for their child they don’t have boundries. But really you have to get the child to do as much as they can, otherwise they would never be able to break free of their condition.
They are the only ones who can cure themselves, if they don’t want to lose their condition, then it doesn’t matter how good the Drs are they’ll still have it. If you make it seem to them that life would be easier if they could fix their problem then they would strive to be as functional as possible.
Susan, i think in 31 years of marriage i have actually seen hubby loose his temper a 1/2 doz times. It takes a lot to push him over the edge.
Guess that is why he’s tolerated me all this time! ha ha ha
Adam is fiesty today!
Vacation did you good Adam! *L*
rolling the digression back to “tech”…
susan…what kind of camera are you going to get?
I think our “stimulous” check will buy us a new one!
Patty-
not sure what kind of camera– Danielle is the mind behind this– My stimulus check is going on credit card payments.. And a baker’s rack- I want one real bad-
Max– key word– boundaries– These are needed- even Ken has boundaries- he use to swear a lot in public and now he has learned to not use so many expletives- he was not aware of this when he did - as for me, I continue to use these– LOL - My excuse- insanity! no cure for this!
OK– Time to go– have to get busy so Adam thinks I actually do something—
LDG– I missed you on the Iraq thread– by the time I got over there, you were gone- (sad)
you need to get ken to tell you off when you swear
Max–
Ken does! It is funny how we fight– because we don’t really fight– LOL
Your stuff is on the way–
Hi everyone!
And Adam
Susan: I tried to find your info on our
other www web site but (duh) couldn’t
find it. contact me at jhousley@megapathdsl.net
and I will try to help you out.
Yes, I do take lots of pictures & download them
and run them off! Then scrapbook or if you see
our house we have 100/’s all over! Family is
the best!
Mrs. Housley–
thank you and the job has been done– I can’t wait to hear what you think!!
You should see my home- it is all pictures- everywhere- every room- all printed out from the computer- I have pictures of my grandparent’s wedding, from 1924, Ken’s parents, 1943, my parents, 1951- I have them on a book shelf and it kind of neat to see the different wedding attire- (black and white) — I love photos- Adam is in my computer room — I had to print out the picture of us! Of course- Patty, Jen are here in this room too.
Friends and family– you can never have enough pictures!
xxxxx
Susan: thanks! I’ll have to go to the stores soon and find you some.
