Safe in Belfast
by Adam Housley
I have been promising this for a bit, so here it is. We actually got the idea from your partially absent Baghdad blogger. Yep, Shaffer suggested that when we swung through Belfast, we make sure to see the Europa. It was a fantastic time for me, since I heard and studied the unrest in Northern Ireland as a kid. I can still remember my school teachers mentioning the story from time to time. Of course in fourth grade, it’s tough to get a handle on the story. Belfast is booming and while the tension hasn’t left, prosperity is winning. Nice to see.
done
Adam–

partially absent Shaffer? I would agree there– But I have learned a lot! so thanks!
K2–
I went to the Suns game last night- a last minute invite– and I am sorry to say the Timberwolves lost! You know we have Shaq now playing here? I think it is funny how people say he is too old to be playing basketball– He is what? 36?
Susan: i saw that, maybe that’s where some dances come from, bears scratching their backs!
*boogies down with the bears*
Susan, don’t the Timberwolves always lose?
Adam, I think you should contact Ireland’s tourist bureau….. You could put together a ‘Visit Ireland Now’ ad.
K2—
Adam should start a foundation for Adam’s bloggers to go visit Ireland!
Yes, the Timberwolves do seem to lose a lot– just like our football team The Cardinals– I go for fun– I don’t actually put much emotion as to who wins as some others do–
Adam–
the hotel– the Europa– the one which was bombed frequently at one time? Good thing there are lots of pubs there– (bomb shelters?)
trivia-
A landmark in Belfast, the Europa is a monument to the resilience of the city in the face of the Troubles. The most bombed hotel in western Europe, it was targeted 11 times by the IRA since the early 1970s and was refurbished every time, and today shows no signs of its explosive history. Indeed, even with this track history, President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary chose the hotel for an overnight visit during their 1995 visit — for 24 hours the phones were answered with “White House Belfast, can I help you?” The president’s room is now called the Clinton Suite and contains memorabilia from the presidential stay. The Europa is owned by affable Ulster millionaire and hotel magnate Billy Hastings.
Wheeee!!!!!!!! This was short but I liked it! I even got to see one of the yellow buildings, that made the whole video. Anyone know the video was so short? I feel like I got gipped out the action.
