Wild Bus Ride to the Youth Rally

Father Jonathan Morris and I are finally on site at the Youth Rally in Yonkers, N.Y. And, I think we can honestly say that we’re grateful to be here, after a wild bus ride from the big media security checkpoint in midtown Manhattan.

What should have been a 20 minute ride turned into an hour and a half journey. The secret service apparently didn’t check the route map well enough and didn’t realize that the West Side parkway bridges were too low for three tour buses (that were carrying hundreds of members of the media) to pass underneath!

The bus tied up traffic for at least 30 minutes as police stopped the flow of cars so the buses could back up about a 100 or so yards to exit and go around the overpass. Then, the narrow access road had no outlet to accommodate the buses. We had to make a U-turn in the intersection to go back to the parkway, enter after the low bridge and then on our way again.

Needless to say, we were late.

There are already thousand of young people from the various surrounding dioceses here.  Stay tuned — I’ll be writing all afternoon.

I have been glued to my favorite channel (Fox News of course) for the entire visit of the Pope. This afternoon, however, I am sad that we cannot hear what is going on with the youth because of all the overtalking. I watch Fox News 24/7 so I will not change, but I would so like to enjoy what the young people are saying as well as the commentary. The Pope looks like he is enjoying this leg of his trip. Please could we find a middle ground for listening? All the background information is great…but I love kids too! (Grandmother of 6 here)
Thanks and keep up the great work.

I don’t know if you received my last post, as it was the very first time I have ever attempted to blog. I just wanted to thank you for the extensive coverage of the Pope’s visit. I watch Fox News almost exclusively from anything else (ok except Lost). My concern was the talking over the youth giving the gifts to the pope, and yes, even the crowd sounds. Some of your viewers have waited for this leg of the journey in America, and I would have liked to hear the youth speak. Thanks for being the best news channel on the planet.

Thank you Fox News and all your reporters for doing such a fantastic job of reporting on the Pope’s trip. Today’s coverage was especially welcomed by busy viewers who couldn’t follow the coverage during the week.
