Drug Bust 101
FRIDAY UPDATE
Bonds for those arrested in the big San Diego State drug sting range from $10,000 to $150,000, many accused have already pled not guilty. This comes as a professor at San Diego State tells the Union-Tribune newspaper that she’s concerned the school’s president Stephen Weber “unilaterally authorized” the Drug Enforcement Administration to conduct the operation. According to reports, “Now it’s drugs,” says Carole Kennedy, a political science professor who heads the faculty union. “Maybe next time it’s about political dissent … What happens when you have students talking about federal income tax policy, saying they’re not going to pay their taxes? Are they going to bring in IRS agents?”
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
We are getting ready for Greta’s show and we’ll be talking beforehand with Deputy District Attorney Damon Mosler. He’s appearing right after our report as our live is slated for about 10:06pm (7:06pm Pacific). Damon tells me about the strong cooperation between the DA, DEA and campus police. He explains the DA in San Diego County was approached last September to get involved in this investigation, one he believes is the largest bust ever on any college campus. He like the DEA believes that more arrests could come as all the avenues are followed.
WEDNESDAY LATE UPDATE
Just got off the phone with a contact at the DEA. They are obviously swamped with the ongoing investigation and the background parts of the case. They say more arrests are very possible, nothing like the magnitude we just saw with this bust, but groups of a couple here, four there etc. could go down as the pieces of the drug puzzle are put together.
They are looking at the connections with the Mexican drug cartels. At this point it looks like the gang banger from LA was the connection into the states.
They can’t comment about any investigations that may or may not be ongoing at other colleges. So far this drug web has not spread to other schools.
The DEA agent I spoke with says they hope this bust reminds people about the dangers of drugs and that parents need to communicate and stay informed of what their children are doing even when they are in college.
WEDNESDAY MORNING
While the crackdown at San Diego State may not be a surprise to some students we’ve spoken to here in San Diego, others are obviously worried about future ramifications when they go job hunting. Several seniors have mentioned they are happy that drugs are off the streets, but will this massive raid transcend into their job hunt? Will potential employers look at a candidate and remember what happened here and then not hire a San Diego State grad?
While those questions are still to be answered, we have learned a few new details. First, there is a connection between the drugs running through this campus and the Mexican cartels. The border is a very short drive from campus and the story of the cartels and their prowess in nearby Tijuana is one that we’ve covered many times in recent months. Secondly, this investigation is not over and more people could be taken into custody at any time. There is also no coincidence that the raids came down as finals week begins. Many students head home after tests, or on trips and if agents wanted to get their men/women, there was a definite time element involved.
We got the word as the raids began early yesterday morning. My colleague Anita Vogel reported on developments as our crew grabbed our stuff and headed south. I was in Northern California for a day off and headed to the airport to fly south to San Diego where I met our team of Producer Chris Spinder and Photographer Keith Railey.
Together we left early this morning, about 5am, and headed to campus where the reaction from student is still fresh and the investigations is still very warm. More info to come throughout the day.
If this reposts twice I’m sorry-The new blogs are acting differently than before. Won’t let me post, gives me a time out, no proxy server, blah blah blah. The last comment I posted didn’t show up for a day or so.
Adam, I know it is the law. And I hear ya man.
I’m just saying the law when enforced as it is currently set up is potentially ruining more lives than these people did, because the law is going about this the wrong way and not improving the situation what-so-ever. These people made their choice and now they have to face the music. So did the people that took the drugs that died. They made their choice and paid dearly for it. Did the law prevent it? Nope.
I know you don’t agree with me…it’s cool…we cool….much respect.
SO Two People Died. Over how long of a period of time was this college ring going on?
–Remember one was uneducated about it and mixed her drugs with alcohol. I didn’t know about the other one. Same type situation I assume.
–Regulation and education can end these kinds of UN-NEEDED deaths.
–Keep pushing it underground and don’t talk about it- I tend to think the law turning its back on this has a direct effect on someone’s lack of education about the subject. Just my opinion.
I did a little Googling of you on the net (hope you don’t mind). I see your a wine affectionado (unless that’s bull). If thats true more power to you but I understand your stance on the whole alcohol thing better and why you defend it. Free country man (getting less free all the time) so you should certainly be allowed to like it and partake of it.
So 75 or 95 people, can’t remember, were involved with distribution at that college.
Lets take 75 or 95 random bars/pubs, whatever. Multiply that by the amount of time this drug operation was going on. How many patrons of the Bars/Pubs over that amount of time ended up with DUI’s, getting in a fatal crash, killing someone else, minor accidents, beating spouses, etc. Who knows, I’m just saying. I bet its worse though.
If you have time for a read you should check this book out.

Or you can just Google “Altered-State-Story-Ecstasy-Culture” if you don’t trust that link.
NO I’M NOT A HIPPIE!! And I’m not a Demoncrat. But I am a youth of this. There are millions and millions of us all over the world, and we are all grown up and drug free and successful (Maybe not Adam successful, but working on it). It has some very interesting points and might open your eyes up about a lot of this. Some would say it’s about protecting alcohol as the one LEGAL mind altering recreational drug and how these laws are really about $$$$ for them. Good ole dollar, nothing wrong with making a dollar but imposing on people’s freedoms to make $$$$ is BAD. With other markets alcohol would lose its grip. I think it might be the alcohol cartels (much like OPEC), that aid in creating this current dire situation and pushing on politicians to pass unproven laws that burden our society. Maybe thats balogne and a just a conspiracy theory. I’m not a conspiracy theorist- just like to look at everything from as many points as possible to form my opinions. Sounds like a good point though. Who knows I might die young as a result of being a guinea pig of this movement. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow too. Time will tell.
Ever been to Ibiza Adam? No I’m not gay either…..
I’m thinking about going over there this summer and see what all the fuss is about before it is completely gone. Some interesting things going on over there. Some weird stats about things there also. Will be interesting to watch what happens over there in the next couple of years.
The rules are changing around the world, where will the next Ibiza be? Or where is the next counter culture movement happening? In Japan I have heard, perhaps in Croatia also. I wouldn’t know, just an interesting topic.
Interesting regulations coming on board in Amsterdam also.
Adam I appreciate this conversation. I really appreciate you responding to me. Glad I found your blog. Seems I understand where you are coming from way more than you can see where I am coming from. Thats totally cool and I know I won’t convince you otherwise (not trying to), just lending a different opinion on it from someone who has seen other sides of it than those portrayed on TV and blown way way out of whack. IMO. You seem to be pretty cut and dried-best way to be. People know where you stand.
Thanks
HWA
HWA-
Dang you are a hard guy to debate with….you knock me out with content. I do see where you are coming from, but on this issue I have always been black or white. I have friends who make your same argument, just much less detailed. You got it right about my opinions, I am up front about everything. You seem the same way.

Aight folks im off to the trip … cya’ll next week
p.s. Susan ill take pics
A couple of Questions:
How many people died as a result of the drugs this group was selling?
One???????? And it was because of alcohol also.
During that same period of time how many people died in a Toyota that a dealer sold to them????
How many lives and families did this group of people ruin because of the drugs?????
Prove it!
How many lives and families did the government ruin through the enforcement of their stupid laws?????
ALL 95 OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE??????
Yeah, its much better for the government to throw these people in jail THAN to let them play out their course and eventually move on to become productive, tax paying members of society. This happens all the time and these people move on, believe me. They act like this is something special they broke up. Give me a break. What a JOKE!!!!!
Instead lets ruin these people lives, and make them a burden to society for the rest of their lives through jail rehabilitation. We all know how well that joke works. Good Job War On Drugs.
This makes me sick!!!!!!
HWA-
Two actually died. But how many lives did it hurt? How many kids got into other stuff? HWA….They made the choice and they knowingly violated the law. We can argue all we want about what drugs are bad and what drugs are “harmless”, but fact is…they knew the rule, the broke the rule…they pay the price. Dumb law or not.

Exclusive: Hizballah received 35 new Iranian speedboats shortly before current crisis
May 11, 2008, 9:22 AM (GMT+02:00)
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that three weeks before Hizballah seized western Beirut, the Shiite terrorist group took delivery of 35 fast speedboats for use with explosives from Iran. The craft can threaten US Sixth Fleet and Israel Navy shipping close to Lebanese shores, reach Israel’s Haifa and Ashdod Mediterranean ports and raid its coastal oil installations.
The speedboats were tailor-made for Hizballah by Iranian Revolutionary Guards shipyards at Bandar Abbas as the only marine terror fleet operating in Mediterranean waters. Our military sources report the boats are capable of carrying chemical, biological and radiological weapons systems.
They were delivered in mid-April by an Iranian freighter at the Syrian port of Latakia and trucked to Naimah port south of Beirut. There they were hidden in the subterranean hangars belonging to Ahmed Jibril, head of the Palestinian Liberation Front-General Command. Today, the PLF-GC is financed and directed by the Revolutionary Guards. The hangars were constructed in the seventies by East Germany engineers with a protected Mediterranean anchorage and made virtually impenetrable by sea or air.
Happy Anniversary KC!
May every hour

shining gift of Joy; A dream

16:45 The army command announced that Brigadier General Wafik Shoukair will be reinstated in his current position at the airport and demanded that all parties should immediately withdraw their gunmen from the streets . Promised to address the issue of the Hezbollah communications network taking into consideration the public interest and the security of the resistance
…being that S. Hariri and W. Jumblatt have both instructed their parties to respect this, is there an other possible reading of this than “Hezbollah Wins” being bandied about in places like Israeli Army Radio? <– one of the useful sources I *can’t* see from here in anything like realtime.

Exclusive: Iran-backed Hizballah offensive closes in on Israeli border
May 10, 2008, 12:05 PM (GMT+02:00)
DEBKAfile’s military sources report: Hizballah’s advance on two key Lebanese locations Saturday, May 10 had immediate effect on the strategic balance between the Iran-backed Shiite group and Israel. Sidon in the south, Lebanon’s second largest city, which provides Hizballah with control of a continuous coastal strip from its southern Beirut district all the way to Tyre.
The second point is on the northern slopes of the Hermon range. After Hizballah seizes control of this enclave and the Syrian 10th and 14th armored divisions step over the border into Lebanon, the two forces can join to form a strong military line opposite Israel near the Litani River.
Our military sources report that the vanguard of the 10th Division has already moved across to the Lebanese side of the border.
Hizballah’s victory in taking over western and central Beirut therefore has had the effect of adding another link to the pro-Iranian chain encircling Israel. In many ways it is a more damaging setback for Israel’s national security than the Palestinian Hamas’ seizure of the Gaza Strip
Yet Israel’s prime minister, defense minister and foreign minister are all too busy with the political fallout of the bribery case against Ehud Olmert to lift a finger to arrest Lebanon’s decline to a Tehran satellite before it is too late - any more than Hamas was stopped from developing into a major military menace.
Equally inert are the two presidents who are pledged to support the Siniora regime, George W. Bush and Nicolas Sarkozy. The United Nations, which maintains 15,000 armed peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, backed by marine forces off the shores of Beirut, has no thought of stopping the Iranian-Syrian-backed terrorist militia from capturing the country.
Hezbollah better not push this civil war across the border as i have read some where that its getting close to the israeli border… which im going to be very close to early monday mourning into tuesday for this big trip of ours…. if they do im going to be super mad….. Adam tell Tobin to keep them under control

Saw you this morning on America’s Newsroom- 6 frat houses, 95 kids arrested, connection to the Mexican Cartel - Wow
Sure gonna ruin a lot of students lives on this one.
Wonder if our little illegal subs have anything to do with the delivery of these drugs
What are the chances of any of these kids telling authorities WHO the drug dealers are that they purchased the stuff from. Need to get them to get this stopped
Great report as usual Adam

Drugs 101
I headed south to San Diego this morning after being rudely disturbed by Fox while I was on yet another day off. We met up with our producer and cameraman at San Diego Airport and headed straight for the bar……….ehhhh, car……car rental place and rented an SUV to take on the drugs……..ehhhhh, drug story at San Diego State. Upon our arrival we met our submariner “friends” from the Drug Sub story of a few days ago (the one that wore me out so I needed a day off story). Apparently they had “Subbed” up the San Diego sewer system to replenish the drugs lost in the raid.
They invited us to come along for the return trip to and show us how they do it(ala. Tobin in Israel rocket story). Their GPS was not picking up the satelites and we took a wrong sewer pipe near Tijuana MX……….So now here we are stuck in Mexico, with drug smuggling charges pending, awaiting Dog Chapman to bail our a$$es out of jail.
Adam
Think this will get him to get Fox to change the new blog format?

EVERYONE-
Hang with us. Here’s how your posts work on the new site. The first time you leave a comment it takes a bit because we have to approve. Once you are approved, than all future comments go right through. It’s just the first moderation which allows us to keep out spam. Like this site, once in a while when you post a ton of links, that too can slow things down. So, after you post over there once, you’ll be able to see it go up immediately. Can we try and move this conversation over there? John…you with me?

Well, I guess this old white haired woman is not going to be approved. I posted twice now, once before John and then after him to let him know he was not alone so don’t know what is going on.
My credit is excellent and I don’t owe anyone - so maybe because I am female??? No-can’t be
Patience is a virtue - I guess

Geraldo is doing the moderating on this first day. So anyone that talked badly about him in the past is instantly relegated behind the firewall………..You’ll just have to wait until he does another special on opening vaults and walls and stuff…….

Hizballah fires block Beirut airport
Pro-Western Siniora government and Iran-Syria-backed Hizballah forces exchanged fire in the streets of Beirut Wednesday, May 7. DEBKAfile’s sources report both have ordered a general call-up of their adherents.
Hizballah fighters clad in national army and police uniforms are infiltrating government party strongholds in the capital to seize control. In the north and the western Beqaa Valley region of Kharoub, government forces are mobilizing. First units have been sighted heading for Beirut.
During the day, Hizballah blocked the roads leading to the airport and vowed to keep it under siege until the Siniora government goes back on the decision announced Tuesday, May 6, to shut down the private telecommunications network Iran installed for the group and reinstate the pro-Hizballah airport director Gen. Wafiq Shuqeir. To pile up anti-government pressure, Hizballah called labor unions out on strike.
General Shuqeir was removed after Druze Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt accused Hizballah of installing spy cameras at the airport to monitor the movements of Lebanese and foreign leaders. Jumblatt said incoming flights were bringing the Shiite militia supplies of weapons from Iran.
On August 9, 2007, DEBKAfile first revealed that Iranian military engineers were installing a secret underground telecommunications system to support Hizballah’s missile unit. The network runs through south Beirut, the Beqaa Valley’s Yohmor region near the Syrian border – where Hizballah and the Palestinian Popular Front-GC keep their training facilities – and connect the southern towns of Tyre on the Mediterranean with Abassieh, seat of Hizballah’s southern headquarters.
For the ten months during which this military telecommunications network was being installed, the Beirut government did not dare touch it.
Prime minister Fouad Siniora finally decided enough was enough when satellite images provided by Western agencies showed work on connecting Hizballah’s network with the communications and eavesdropping systems set up by the Syrian army along the Lebanese border.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the two networks and their linkage are part of military preparations by Iran, Syria and Hizballah for a possible new flareu-up of hostilities with Israel.

hey everybody I posted over there, my alter ego or army nickname is “shot” or “sgt shot”, long story short of the origins. My time at war, I have never failed to engage the enemy, and while I have missed a time or two or thousands, I have never let them get away once I started shooting…therefore I am a good “shot”, and quick on the trigger.

Told you this War on Drugs is a Joke. Looks like it is really working—NOT—-
Told you this was more rampant than anyone would ever think.
That bust is about the size of a needle in a haystack.
Won’t make any difference what-so-ever!!!!!!
Won’t make any impact what-so-ever!!!!!!
People that do drugs are not scared of the deterrent of the LAW.
Can’t arrest them all. Can’t even arrest 1% of them.
Lets not treat the addiction and the problems these people have, lets just throw them in Jail so they cost taxpayers more.
That poor girl died because of Cocaine AND Alcohol. Speed Balling………
Ban BOTH of those drugs! The two worst offenders out there!
…………….Ridiculous………………
“I just drink I don’t do drugs.”
….BULLCHIT, YOU DRUGGIE!!!!
“I can handle my alcohol.”
….Nice job, You handle your drugs well you DRUGGIE!!!!!
