Universal Studios Fire

Monday Latest We have just been updated that the fire burned about 3 1/2 acres of the back lot, which translates to about 1% of the entire area. The New York street is a total loss as is the King Kong attraction, but the famous courthouse facade from ‘Back to the Future’ was saved. The fire burned right up the the steps and there is smoke damage. Investigators are here now and arson is NOT suspected we a re told.

Sunday Evening Update: We are now 9 hours since the first call of a fire here at Universal and still a decent plume of brownish/black smoke drifts eastward into the sky. Thankfully there is only a very light breeze and for a few hours now firefighters have surrounded the flames. I am told by one source that the fire is believed to have started in the New York Facade area where they have been shooting a commercial in recent days.

These are exclusive fire pictures from inside Universal City. Los Angeles City Firefighter Ted Chambers was on scene with fellow firefighter Tom Prange and as we arrived about 6:45am, I met them outside of gate 1 here along Lankershim Boulevard. Here are the first of more that I will post, I also have posted some behind the scenes video that shows what it looked like as we approached the scene.

Smoke continues to billow into the sky right now and we are more than 5 hours after this fire began. Another ambulance has just raced off of the lot and so far I am told, thankfully, that only 3 firefighters have been taken to local hospitals with minor injures. We are told Main Street, where they filmed ‘Back to the Future’, has been destroyed along with the video vault and the King Kong attraction.

Adam working on a Sunday! No rest for the wicked! I just saw Adam plugging his blog on Fox. This is crazy! I’ve been in those sound stages many many times. All sound stages in L.A. are just like that. They are fire traps. However, they all have been retrofitted with massive ceiling fire springlers. Didn’t they work?

Comment by Gillian C

Wow! I am suspicious to the cause of this fire… I am awaiting the press conference to see what they are actually going to let us know about this fire… Why would they open up the park and expose all of those people to that smoke??? Bad enough we have smog in the air…

Comment by Dustin

This is absolutely crazy. I’m anxious to know what the cause of this massive fire is. I sure hope the movie vault goes unharmed. A lot of movie history is close to being lost… I pray this fire avoids this building.

Comment by Justin Sluss

Adam,

we’re linking to your blog over at HighDefDiscNews.com.

Comment by Justin Sluss

I have to agree with Dustin, that’s our major concern over at my website and to me personally. The film vault as well as famous sets like the Back to the Future clocktower and city square, etc. The Psycho house…

Comment by socalsurfer

that one biulding i think is where they build set walls and stage and special effects pieces. Even though is a steel biulding. The inside is filled with all types of wood, plastics, foam and chemicals. The smoke is goingto be very toxic to the nearby communities.

Comment by socalsurfer

Justin, the fire is not near those landmarks. the fire is about at a much lower level and about 1/2 mile away.

Comment by socalsurfer

and no the fire is NOT NEAR WISTERIA LANE!………..too funny, the fire chief jsut said that on ABC local live news.

Comment by Jennifer in ATL

Whoa!! What amazing pictures. Thanks, Adam. I just saw a clip on ESPN about the Charleston 9 who lost their lives fighting a furniture warehouse fire last year. Brought tears to my eyes. Seeing the firefighters on top of the building in that one slide actually frightened me.

Firefighters truly are the bravest people on the planet.

Godspeed.

Comment by socalsurfer

news just said that the Video Vault and a Set/Prop maker biulding was hit.

Comment by Susan--AZ

Good thing your blog is available Adam– I haven’t had any time for anything– there is a fire in Universal Studios?

How did it get started?

Will check back later to see the video!

Adam– You have been seeing too many fires lately!!! Time for an Ireland vacation!

Comment by socalsurfer

this wasa video vault. NOT the FILM vault. This is the vault where they store dailies, sitcoms etc. Everything can be easily replaced.

Comment by socalsurfer

most of the videos were removed and none were completely destroyed. Damaged, yes, but everything is replaceable. Again, this was NOT the sacred Film Vault and no irraplaceble film/hollywood history was destroyed.

Comment by Justin Sluss

Yep, film vault is SAFE. Great news. Thanks go to Adam!

Comment by socalsurfer

well, bad news, I was wrong. The back tothe future set and the King Kong rides were destroyed. However, everything can be replaced. It’s hollywood afterall. It can be rebuilt exatly as before.

Always sad to see “history” destroyed.

I went to universal studios when i was in the 6th grade. LONG time ago!

I also like the multi-tasking pic…better than the suit and tie thing ;-)

Patricia…maybe you should take your own advice, try spreading a little cheer now and then, amazing what it does for the soul. We’re glad you stopped by! Welcome.

Hi Everyone!

Let it burn. Lit it all burn. Hollywood has been and remains a negative influence in this world. In my mind, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings or change my life if it all was destroyed. I wonder how many more people have the same sentiments. If you do, you need to speak up. I don’t like to see poeple suffering but I also think that Hollywood and some of its wierdo personalities have been a major black-eye for this country

Comment by Karen2 (K2)

Wow. amazing photos….did not know about the fire. Is it getting under control now?

Comment by Justin Sluss

Jay, you’re absolutely ignorant man. Adam please delete that guy’s comment that’s just sadistic and evil. I’ve been to Hollywood not far from where this fire took place an there’s a lot of great people there. Namely right now the firefighters working on this, 3 of which have had to be taken away to the hospital for smoke inhalation or other injuries. Think about what Adam said in his news report(s) before you say really cold hearted statements like that. Hollywood isn’t as evil as you think dude. Just because your parents told you if you watched a film that was made there demons would come out and rape you doesn’t mean you have to go spreading that idiotic idea on others and tell them you hope it all burns?! I mean really… >SIGH< This really upsets me, people like this “Jay” guy

Comment by Justin Sluss

I was telling someone earlier that the fire had to have been going on for almost 5 hours now because I posted my story on digg.com shortly before I went to Adam’s blog here. It’s that old timber burning is what’s making it take forever to put out.

Comment by Adam Housley

JUSTIN-

You are right on all fronts. I don’t want to delete the comment because everyone has their right to an opinion, however wrong they are. In any case, your assessment is correct, the fire is closing in on 6 hours now and there is a ton of fuel in these sets.

Adam

Comment by Steve Jackson

Not saying this is the case
But it seems every time a major movie studio has a string of bad flims.. they seem to have a fire.

Comment by Justin Sluss

I actually respect that Adam, Freedom of speech is important in this country. You’re absolutely right. For instance I’m not really that big of a fan of FOX News but I find you reporting to be worth watching to justify watching the network even though I don’t agree with it’s political values, etc.

Comment by Adam Housley

Justin-

Just don’t confuse our opinion shows with our day to day coverage. The one thing I respect about our opinion shows is they tell you exactly what they are and how they feel. There’s no hiding. As a correspondent, I’ll put up our reporting and accuracy against anyone. Thanks for watching :) .

Thanks for clarification that it was the “Video Vault” not the Film Vault!!

Jay, you need to just SOD OFF!

Comment by Jay

I didn’t mean to offend anyone and I surely didn’t intend to imply a sadistic attitude. My prayers go out for the brave men and women who are battling this blaze and reporting on it. I pray for their safety through this. I am just saying that my feelings for the mentality of Hollywood is socially corupt and they are to blame for a lot of the social ills of this country.

Jay, if you think Hollywood is a negative part of our country? Think again. Hollywood made our country. It’s liberal freaks like you who are the black eye of it, and keep in mind, Universal Studios Hollywood isnt actually in hollywood smart one.

OH noo..

Tobin is now going into their smuggling tunnels :O…. theres pic on greta wire… deplorable

Comment by LDG

@Avi

Saw them. Not going to bother even reproaching him this time. “Don’t try to teach a pig to sing…” and all that. So long as FOXNews choses to employ him, there is not much to be done. He apparently believes he is doing his job, and my (or your) opinion matters not one whit.

Comment by Avi

Yah. LDG,

.. i like ur quote ” Dont try to teach a pig to sing.” …….

one of those pics with him appears to be a terrorist smuggling TNT in that black container…… question is did he help faciliate the transfer of it just by being there or what…..

well i guess Tobin like viewing terrorist acts ( before -after- and not the outcome) … if thats his thing then thats his thing…. and by going there he is might be indirectly helping them in cab fare or w/e else giving them a bottle of water or tidbits of food…

hes lucky that tunnel didnt collapse as they do here and there…. if that happened which luckly it didnt i wonder what would be said…..

Comment by Max Kon

Avi: Wouldn’t it help the Israeli military to have a video of what’s going on behind enemy lines, or the locations of some of the tunnels or rocket factories?

Comment by Sylvia

Hi Avi
I saw those pictures too and don’t know what to say about Tobin going into the tunnel. It has to be dangerous but I guess a journalist’s job isn’t always safe.

How you been doing?

Sylvia

Comment by Avi

Max,

they know already what is going on and how they look….. The terrorist would probably ban him if he reviled where he was…. they probably view his footage … but israel knows where everything is at….

however why doesnt he go on a embed mission with the IDF as they round up terrorist or as they bomb missle locations….

when he did his last report from the missle launch …. Israel could so have bombed the location but they probably knew Tobin was there so they didnt bomb them cuz Tobin was there… id assume….

this tunnel is probably between Egypt and Gaza…. is a big problemo…..

imagine if that guy holding that black box in the tunnel was Osama Ben Ladin for arguments sake…. your showing him that he makes good tv and he should continue doing it…

I dont see any other Network hanging out with terrorist with blood on their hands…

It brakes Foxs fair and balanced doctrine…..

Comment by Adam Housley

Avi-

As someone who has done two tours in Israel I can assure you Mike and our staff spend a ton of time with the IDF. What they are doing is showing what ISrael is facing. You may think it is promoting the attacks, I think it is showing Americans what your country is facing.

Adam

Comment by Max Kon

Tobin has done imbeds with IDF before. During the war with Hezbolah he was with the IDF all the time.
And isn’t it more fair and balanced to show both sides? If we know what the other side is doing then we can more easily discredit them.
A lot of groups say that when the media won’t show anything about them that it shows they are right because the media are scared of showing their views to all the world, since it would convince everyone what they say is true. While showing what they believe we can see how ridiculous it is.

just heard on KTLA 5. Looks like something kept in the video fault that was destroyed is indeed irreplaceble. Old original recordings from Decca records . Songs from Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and a bunch of other singers and bands that are very important. Including oringinal recordings from several movies, session works, tv shows.

Comment by LDG

@socalsurfer

re: “I just hope…”

I applaud your thoughts (and some similar posted here and before), but would caution the following:

a) IDF has had the Egypt-Gaza smugglers penetrated on and off. Nothing new in those video/pics except maybe location hints. No new faces compromised, no new techniques (I looked for both).

b) The tunnels that are hittable are hit. At one point the lifetime of a new tunnel was about 3 days, if I recall correctly. The smuggler’s answer is to start, route, and end the current tunnels in and under inhabited “civilian” structures. No longer an allowable strike target.

c) Even with no *boom*, based on the issues caused by (b), this would still be answerable by police action… but: the IDF was pulled out of Gaza leaving it unoccupied; The Palestinian Authority lost control to Hamas; and it is Hamas that benefits from the tobacco and arms smuggling that make up the bulk of the traffic. Pretty much, your only hope to get these things closed down without major and messy military action is to get the Egyptian Police / Border Troops to close them. Occasionally, they do.

so, sadly, once again no one is helped by M.Tobin’s report except those supporting Hamas.

@Avi

Have you sent your concerns to the Fox bureau in Israel? Maybe Tobin himself would explain his actions. His reporting probably has the approval of the NYC office, but Tobin should be held accountable for his reporting, especially if people in Israel are concerned. I don’t think we in the US are aware of any problem it is causing…at least I wasn’t until I read your comments.

nothing to do with the fire, but hre it is. More Obama wnting to meet Chavez

Should a US President Meet with Hugo Chavez or Raul Castro?

Q: US presidential candidate Barack Obama’s stated willingness to meet with leaders of hostile nations has generated quite a bit of controversy and debate. How effective would such a policy be in the Americas? Would meetings with leaders like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez or Cuba’s Raul Castro help or hurt US interests?

A: Board Comment: Diego Arria: “Obviously, meeting with Ahmadinejad cannot be compared to meetings with Hugo Chavez or Raul Castro. Senator Obama’s remarks that not talking to countries (like Venezuela and Cuba) ‘is ridiculous’ does not really apply to those regimes, especially in the case of Venezuela, where the US has a significant diplomatic and commercial presence. Still, I fail to understand how Senator Obama believes that meeting with Castro and Chavez will ‘bridge the gap that divides our countries.’ The divide is well known. In the case of Cuba, the embargo remains the main obstacle, and it should be removed. In Venezuela’s ‘rich rogue regime,’ Chavez himself is the main problem—and that cannot be solved unless a new US administration would agree to give him free rein to continue promoting his so-called Bolivarian revolution all over Latin America and making a joke of the Inter-American Democratic Charter as well as of the Organization of American States. Venezuela’s regime has made its active antagonism to the US a priority of its foreign and domestic policy. There is no ‘quiet policy’ option with a head of state like Chavez who publicly and covertly supports the narco-terrorist FARC. Obama has clearly overestimated the UScapacity to influence a regime that neither wants—nor needs—US assistance. There would be nothing to gain for the US and a lot to gain by Chavez, who would not lose the opportunity to demonstrate his rejection of the US, to which it sells most of its oil. But like the Van Morrison song says, ‘talk is cheap—it comes with the territory.’”

A: Guest Comment: Peter DeShazo: “While the role of commander-in-chief gets more attention, theUS president is also the nation’s top diplomat. Meetings between the president and other heads of state are usually matters of considerable substantive and symbolic importance. They and other forms of presidential contact (letters, phone calls,) are key elements in the foreign policy tool box. Senator Obama’s stated willingness to meet with leaders such as Raul Castro and Hugo Chavez appears to follow an approach to foreign affairs that emphasizes openness to dialogue, even with unfriendly governments. This approach is useful in theory but in practice depends on the circumstances under which it is applied. In the case of Cuba, the US should examine new strategies for advancing the (bipartisan) goal of promoting a transition to democracy and respect for human rights. A more flexible outlook toward engaging the government of Raul Castro to encourage change makes sense. Presidential involvement in this effort could be useful, but should come only after very careful evaluation and preparation. Venezuelapresents a somewhat different picture, given the existence of diplomatic ties and the important energy relationship. The US has repeatedly stated that it would welcome greater cooperation with Venezuelaon issues of mutual interest, an unlikely prospect given President Chavez’s anti-US outlook. Nonetheless, the opportunity might present itself in which contact between heads of state would be helpful in advancing US goals. It serves no purpose to rule out a priori the instrument of presidential diplomacy, but it must be used with special care when dealing with unfriendly regimes. In the end, the decision for presidential engagement should be based on a sound analysis of how the US national interest can best be promoted.”

A: Guest Comment: Roger Noriega: “My suspicion is that Senator Barack Obama’s commitment to meet unconditionally with the United States’ worst enemies was a gaffe that has morphed into a doctrine. Unfortunately, his gambit to present himself as fresh and bold may merely prove him to be naive and careless. In the case of Raul Castro, we’re talking about a changeling dictator who is trying to consolidate himself in power against the rising expectations among the Cuban people for real change. At this sensitive time, even the promise of such an encounter is all Raul Castro would need to legitimize himself and demoralize his opponents. Even if ‘President Obama’ were to give Raul a withering lecture, the mere chance to ‘give as good as he gets’ with a US president would do more to consign 11 million Cubans to years more in tyranny than any other single factor. I don’t think for a second that Senator Obama would want this result, but that would be the result of his not thinking for a second before repeating his careless pledge. To treat Chavez as a worthy interlocutor—at the same time that Obama is disrespecting a stalwart US ally, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, by dumping on a trade agreement he hasn’t even read—is a very silly way for a new president to introduce himself to the region. There are literally dozens of responsible leaders in the Americas who deserve presidential attention—and they’ve received it from President Bush, who has met with more of his counterparts from the region than any president in US history.”

Peter DeShazo is Director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic & International Studies and a former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs.

Diego Arria is a member of the Advisor board and Director of the Columbus Group.

Roger Noriega is a Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a Director at Tew Cardenas LLP, and a former US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs.

Adam,

yah i guess if you look at it from that angle it makes sense however i think that there should be more balanced coverage on the victims such as doing a shot from Sderot and the surounding areas and show how familys, farmers, and so forth are affected….

what we see soo much of is how the palestinians suffer ( from the israeli blockade) due to the terrorists but not how israelis suffer…

just seems terrorist are getting more airtime than the victims…..

Comment by LDG

@Adam Housley

a pleasure to be of some small assistance, as always.

@Avi

Let me try this one out on you:

*hypothesis*
The Mexican Drug Cartels use smuggling tunnels to get across the USA border in some places. I suggest that were the reporter in question to go in with a police detail to examine a captured tunnel, that would be without question meritorious reporting, BUT…

…to pay off some Cartel members/leaders to get taken to see one *in use*, and to cooperate with the Cartel as to not showing people’s identities or details of the location…

…how close to aiding and abetting is permissible in the pursuit of a “scoop”?

Would that be analogous to the dismay felt seeing M. Tobin go in with the Hamas smugglers? (Overlooking the difference between what is being smuggled, and why, for simplicity.)

Comment by Avi

Sylvia,

I’m not mad…. like i enjoy the videos … what im saying is that there should be more coverage on the results of their actions then how they prepare……… because it is victory for them when people come in to tape and take pics of them….. the point of isolating them is kinda falling apart ……. but this is changing and they speak loudly that people are starting to side with them…..

just theres need to be more coverage on their impact rather than their methods……..

Interesting posts. While I would agree that Hollywood didn’t actually ‘make’ this country, the entertainment industry is largely responsible for creating and perpetuating the mythology that is an integral part of the cultural fabric of the United States. It is Hollywood that has given us the epic stories of heroism and drama, of monsters and madmen. Like it or not, this is our cultural legacy.

Conspiracy theories abound and 99.9 times out of 100, the theories are nothing more than the lunatic grasping of straws to explain something very simple in a complicated, convoluted way. A fire happened at Universal, and the real reason will be known once the investigators have had time to examine the site. The investigation is going to be profoundly difficult, given the nature of the sets, facades and show buildings, many of which house fire effects (like in King Kong, for example) and all sorts of special electrical and hydraulic setups.

Not every bad thing that happens in America has to be ascribed to the ‘terrorists’ because when we do that, we give those losers more power than they already have or deserve. And on that note, praying for anything is a waste of time. God didn’t start the fire, and God certainly didn’t put it out. Rather than praying or talking to yourself or whatever you want to call it, be thankful for the fact that we have firefighters – amazing, well-trained people who willingly put themselves in harm’s way to protect people and property.

Otherwise, well said, esp. about firefighters.

Comment by sgt shot

Mike,

I am sorry but I will disagree with you about the cultural importance of Hollywood, it is a great place to make a movie and there have been some great movies, but it is far cry from the true heroics so many movies are based on and it does not have even one ounce of the creative genius that great writers had, and of course Hollywood based many movies on written classics. Hollywood is great about perpetuating the “idea” of America, that same “idea” that so many in the world despise. The “idea” that Americans are rich, wasteful, godless, and we all can sing and dance. The true idea of America get’s overshadowed by the ever intrusive Hollywood crowd. The America I love, is a place where anybody can become anything, where anybody can believe anything, where great minds invent great things…where good, honest, hard-working people make their way through this world, doing what they love….you know…the stuff movies are made of.

On another note, all some people can do is pray, and for many that is the best thing they can do. We cannot all go rushing into the buildings, we cannot all man the front lines, we cannot all be the hero…but I can tell you one thing, that the hero’s that do go rushing in are very grateful when others think about them or pray for them, it lets them know that their heroics (to them its a job) are not unnoticed.

Comment by Michael

sgt shot,

Thank you for a well-spoken and well-reasoned response. I think I may have overreached in my statement about the cultural significance of Hollywood. Now, when I say “Hollywood” I’m really speaking in terms of film and some tv shows. I have no use for, and little appreciation of, the Hollywood crowd. There are some talented people but just because a person is an actor, I really don’t need them telling me how to vote.

I mention mythology, because it’s my belief that civilizations need mythology; larger-than-life stories that inspire and strengthen the good aspects of humanity while punishing the bad. However, for a couple of hours in a theater, we can live vicariously through the actions of our heroes. We can be Spiderman, Indiana Jones or Batman and in the process, their exploits become our modern myths, legends and morality plays.

Of course, real-life heroes trump anything on the screen, and if I implied anything to the contrary, my apologies. As you said, not all of us can be the hero but most of us can afford a movie ticket or a dvd rental.

One of the things that makes the US so great is its diversity; we are a melting pot in which many different cultures, races and religions try to come together. It is a great thing but it also makes it difficult for the varied mythologies to be seen or heard. To me, that’s where the movies come in. Sitting in the dark, we’re all the same and seeing the stories, we are participating in a shared cultural experience that I think serves to unite more often than to divide. I’m not saying this is true of every movie, not by a long shot.

Comment by Patty

Well said Sgt…as usual.

Comment by sgt shot

Mike,

I will agree, that is a valid point, I will be taking my kids to see Indiana Jones, just like my father took me, and I am sure that there will many different demographics represented at the theater.

Most of the regulars here will tell you my fur gets ruffled any time anyone mentions overpaid actors or overpaid athletes, so I will apologize if I came off as harsh.

You seem like you can offer a logical argument and it might not completely align with my own views, also I have not noticed you here before…those factors make you a welcome addition to Adam’s blog…so from me to you…welcome to the crowd.

The movies are a great legacy and we have a culture that is truly united by our entertainment, so much so, that I would think the last time a society was so influenced by a form of entertainment as much as we are, they were tossing Christians into the lions.

Hopefully our society does not align with that society on every issue, if that were to happen we would be in trouble.

Michael,

Are you the same one that used to blog on GW? If so, I always enjoyed your comments. I’m new to this blog. I know some of the people from GW who now come here.

Comment by Michael

sgt, thanks for the welcome. I arrived here because of the Universal fire. And while I’ll accept your apology, it’s not necessary – didn’t come off as harsh to me, though I will amend something I said previously: I have no use for, and little appreciation of, the Hollywood crowd, outside of the work they put on the screen. And we completely agree when it comes to overpaid actors and athletes. And rock stars, for that matter.

So we may not be in total agreement in some areas. What matters is the ability to address those differences in a reasonable, respectful manner that encourages active discussion and being able to do that, well, it’s not something I see very often in discussion boards.

Hi Sylvia,

Nope, I haven’t blogged anything regarding GW, which I’m guessing may be about the president. Anyway, this is the first time I’ve been here, and only found it because I was looking for information about the fire at Universal.

Michael,
I meant Greta Wire…..sorry. You have very wise comments and I thought it was the same Michael that used to blog on Greta Wire.

Sylvia, thanks for your kind words.

Avi, are you around now

Sylvia, I was thinking it was the same Michael too. Maybe I was wanting to believe it was because he was such a good catalyst. Guess there are millions of Michaels in the world.

Adam, are you staying where you are or are you off to a new destination

Also, is there a way to email Jennifer Nauert

Thanks in advance, Montana

Comment by Sylvia

Montana,
I think you mean Heather Nauert.

Mike,

well hopefully you are around, we get some very good discussions going. Most of them involve terrorism, Politics, Goofing around, High explosives, Adam babbling about something, wild woman (you all know who you are), and lots of things about California, we are from all over and most of us are pretty middle of the road politically. We like good discussions and debates, we like being able to call each other “thundering wonder knuckles”, which is a polite way to say, I understand what you are saying but you are an absolute idiot for believing that, and then continuing to be friends…

I also despise the salaries we pay entertainers and that includes rock stars, actors, athletes, and the whole hollywood crowd (sorry Tamera, I actually like you, and after seeing one of your movies for the first time this last week, you are on the “shots approved actor list” for movies for my kids) I think it was “twitches too”, the kids think you rock.

I enjoy hearing other sides of an issue and I think that me and you will agree more than we disagree, but I will enjoy hearing your side of it. You present well, even if you are a thundering wonder knuckle….oh wait…I think we actually have the same point of view…so it would be the pot calling the kettle black…

“Thundering Wonder Knuckle”…even if it’s a putdown of sorts, it still sounds mighty impressive. Is there a general url for this board, is it something I can coordinate through my email? Politically, I’m middle of the road as well, though neither of the two ‘official’ sides represent enough of my interests to make me want to side with either of them. The lesser of two evils is still…evil. And if they still don’t have enough money to run for office, to hell with all of them. I’m too busy trying to keep my tank filled to care.

Wild women, high explosives and goofing around? Okay, you’ve got my attention…

mike,

yes thundering wonder knuckle is going on my next business card, the link for the main page is this:

I would like to see it progress to email updates, but that is a ways off. there is the regular crowd, that you will see pop in and out of most blogs, I am actually one of the new ones I think, I used to post under the name Derek, but the new site (the link I gave you) likes the sgt shot better.

I too am completely disappointed with both of the major parties in our election, I do not identify with either enough, and I am going to use your lesser of two evils is evil thing in the future. We have talked a few times in here about what it would take to get a real third option in politics, but it is really just talk, but an enjoyable topic.

We have several people that are extremely bright and gifted in various areas, I will let you figure out whe they are, we have others that look great in a bikini, again you will have to figure that out, we have one guy in israel, several in south america, and lots of us scattered throughout the states.

We really have a good time, and for the most part we stay on the most current thread, you will find that on the link I posted, we digress all the time, we tell jokes, we discuss really important things and we plot to take over the world, we are starting with Adams Bedroom, from there we will conquer the kitchen, then on to the living room…we start small and stay small…with adam as our fearless leader.

There you go again, talking about us wild women!!!!!

Welcome Mike – you will have a lot of fun here especially when we start to digress – You never know what is going to be said or discussed

ah yes, Hi KC, she has probably returned from a recent hunting expedition. These women, hunt and tag men for sport…I am grateful I am on the opposite side of the country, but I fully expect to be walking to my car one day and then hearing a faint twig snap, just before getting shot with a dart and then collared for “scientific study”, these wild women seem to think they can domesticate us menfolk

Comment by SoCal Michael

Alright, you’ve got me convinced – I’ll try to put aside my less-than-stellar track record with online forums and make a real effort. I’ve changed my “Comment by” name in hope of avoiding common name confusion. I’ve got areas where I know a lot, others where I know nothing, and I look terrible in a bikini.

Which is to say, I think I would.

Save the dart and collar. My migratory pattern is: home, work, beach, bookstore, market, home. Repeat infinitely.

Hi Patty

Been thinking about ya and the Kansas weather watches/warnings. Is all OK at your end???

Loved your slide show – so beautiful, peaceful and quiet looking. It has got to beat a house on both sides of you, behind your back fence, and of course across the street like we have. Loved your new porch/deck.

Also, congrats on that new grandbaby of yours – cute pics there too!!!

Comment by Patty

KC…thank you, yep, its our lil piece of heaven, all 80 acres ;-)
And the baby, is just perfect, he was here this weekend for a bit.

So far..the KS weather has missed us. Thankfully! My heart always breaks for those who loose belongings, i know its just “things”, but still, things that are close to the heart are hard to loose. Today there was baseball and softball size hail about 75 miles south, those storms slid right by us. If you’ve never really been in a hail storm, its hard to imagine. Here’s some pics from this morning, most of it down by the interstate eastern 1/2 of the state. http://www.wibw.com/weather/headlines/19459534.html
get a load of that windshield….i’ve never seen anything like that! and never want to!
I cant remember a spring like this. KS has had 90 tornadoes in this spring. Its crazy!

Comment by KC-Fresno, Ca.

Patty,

Those pictures are crazy – I have never seen hail that size in my life. I am so thankful the storms are missing you, and we will keep you and yours in our thoughts and prayers.

Guess I will never complain about living in this “hell hole” of a valley again.

Be safe my friend

I can’t believe King Kong attraction is gone. I loved going through that attraction. I wonder when new york street and courthouse square will be back up again and I wonder what attraction is being put up in replace of King Kong.
