Back in the Spotlight: Tatum O’Neal Busted for Drugs
Academy Award winner Tatum O’Neal has been charged with cocaine possession. Click here for the full story.
Court paperwork obtained by FOX News states O’Neal had two baggies of cocaine in her pants pocket when police arrested her Sunday night. Sources told the New York Post that when arrested, the actress claimed she was “researching for a part.”
We’ve been following this story all day, and will have more tonight on FOX Report at 7:45pm ET.
In the meantime, we want to hear from you. Click “comments” below and tell us:
— Are you a fan of Tatum O’Neal’s work?
— What are your feelings on the number of celebrity drug arrests we’ve seen in the past year? What does it indicate about the Hollywood lifestyle?
— Do you have any sympathy for the actress?
Didn’t she have a really bad childhood (other than the Oscar)? I feel bad for her
Im a fan of her early work. I don’t know much about her carer as an adult. Of course I sympathize with her substance abuse problems. Alot of us have experienced the same thing or know someone close who has. Its a life-long problem shaking a monkey off your back, only the strongest will be able to do it. Anyone finding joy about these actors falling by the way side are probably just as sick.. This is part of the human condition thats probably found a little more often in a lifestyle with fame, fortune and alot of free time.
I have always liked Tatum as an actress., but I think the excuse of “I was researching for a part” is a very lame excuse. She should stand up and admit she has a problem, and deal with it like the adult she is.
Hollywood is so full of drugs — it’s a sad story.
I haven’t seen O’Neal in anything since she was a little kid. I think the whole drug issue has gotten totally out of control with both hollywood celebrities and sports celebrities. There is really no excuse for these people to be using drugs in their positions. Kids look up to both hollywood celebritries and sports celebrities. Those people should be demonstrating a clean way of life for kids. So many people would love to have the chance to pursue a career in hollywood or in sports without the use of drugs.
how stupid can she get.
poor girl
Addiction is a hard cycle to break
I have been in recovery for 8 + years and I work a program, go to meetings and have a sponsor. I haven’t yet found it necessary to drink or take any mood or mind altering substances BECAUSE I am IN recovery, not around it. I hope Tatum finds the help that she needs and IS available. It takes more than just abstaining to remain happy, joyous and free; I have to WORK a program. I don’t go to the bar for a cheeseburger and I don’t stop by the crack house for a cup of coffee. To thine own self be true, Tatum.
yes i feel bad for her. leave her alone.life is hard enough wihout u making it worse for her.
No sympathy for Tatum. She knew what she was doing.
Yes I have sympathy for Tatum O’Neal. We raise up actors and actresses as gods and from their childhood they are thrown into the craziness of modern American culture. Nothing about their lives make any sense. How should they be able to deal with it? Most of them don’t really do very well. I worry about people like the star of August Rush - sorry I just don’t remember his name right now. But look at that little guy. What a wonderful person, but how much chance does he have to be okay, and have any kind of a normal life? Same with Tatum! Where is any sense of reality and balance for her life? And who cares?! We just want to be entertained!! Of what value was her life to any of us? My last word on it is - she matters. Just like you matter. She matters.
Do I feel sorry for O’Neal and the rest of the Hollywood crowd? Not no but hell no! You guys spend entirely to much time covering these idiots. There is so much going on in our world today it just slays me how much time you give to these people - enough is enough! Report more on what the REAL people are doing and leave these misfits to drown in their fantasy world!
Thank You

I am at the age that I have no sympathy for those people! They have more money and attention than they can handle so they usually destroy themselves. They all should know by now that the Hollywood times are over and none of the common people and most of the people in general don’t care what they do to themselves if they don’t drink and drive and kill some innocent person with their own problem!
Yes, I have sympathy for Tatum O’Neal’s “repeat” problems with drug addiction. Didn’t everyone show compassion for Robert Downey, Jr., every time he slipped and started abusing drugs - again and again - and entered rehab, again, and again until, thankfully, Mr. Downey became “clean and sober” and picked up his acting career once more.
Drug addiction is the scourge of our nation and drug addiction is an illness that is powerful and difficult to cure because the brain tricks the body into believing that it cannot survive and cope without the drugs. Tatum has a family history of drug abuse. Her Mother died at an early age as a result of habitual drug abuse. And, Tatum’s brother has also suffered drug abuse. Drug addiction has caused Tatum to lose of custody of her children and led to the demise of her marriage to Tennis star John McEnroe. Drug addiction has caused Tatum public shame and disgrace, loss of film work and loss of income, and caused the downhill spiral of her once promising film career that had led to her being one of the youngest academy award winners.
Drug Rehabitation should be readily available and “free” for every single drug abuser who wants to become “clean and sober”! It often takes multiple stays in drug rehabiltation until one permanently overcomes the program. And, it takes the support of family, friends, and the community!
I say “Good Luck to you Tatum”.
I hope that Tatum’s children, father, and friends will not “give up on her” and will help her get into a good drug rehab program (with a high success track record) that will enable her to seek sound medical and psychological guidance so that she can beat this set-back and get back on track.
