Sen. Kennedy Goes to Duke for Surgery

May 21 - Sen. Ted Kennedy leaves Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with his wife, Vicki, right, and niece Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.“What are you covering?” residents asked this morning as they passed the media assembled outside Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.

Sen. Ted Kennedy’s arrival over the weekend happened so quickly and quietly, most people had no idea the legendary politician had selected a prominent Duke neurosurgeon, Allan Friedman, M.D., to operate on his brain tumor.

Before his surgery, Sen. Kennedy issued a written statement outlining his expected treatment: a week of recovery following today’s surgery here at Duke, then radiation treatment and chemotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital.

In the statement, Kennedy writes, “After completing treatment, I look forward to returning to the United States Senate and to doing everything I can to help elect Barack Obama as our next president.”

Best of luck Sen. Kennedy

If a doctor is too afraid to operate on a dying man, that person should not want him to operate. My dad used to say, Where there is a will there is a way. Someone out there has the right knowledge and spirit to operate and he should be willing at least try to save Sen. Kennedy. What’s he got to lose? To send a man home to die is not doing all you can do. It is saying it is all I will do. I am hopeful that Sen. Kennedy gets the operation and recovers. Nano technology should be tried and applied with light to dissolve the tumor. Why go half way? Go for broke I say.

I’m praying that you will have a full and complete recovery Sen. Kennedy. We still need you in the Senate.

Dear Senator Kennedy,
As you undergo this surgery many Americans including me will be praying for you. I want you to know that we have never needed more of your leadership than at this time in our nation’s history. We need you to recover, and fast. We must take back the house and begin the process of cleaning the mess of the last 8 years.

Senator Kennedy, my prayers are sent to you during this time of surgery and uncertain circumstances regarding your health. My friend Ron DeVaney has just had the same diagnosis and surgery with the start of chemo and radiation. Right now he has had a second surgery. Pray for him, sir, thank you.

I have very rarely agree with Sen. Kennedy on policy, having said that everything that i can tell is hes a very generous public servant. Sen. Kennedy we have very big differences from Immigration to the War to taxes, But my prayers are with you and hope that you have a very speedily recovery, but please retire from politics!

Where is your dignity? The man is undergoing brain surgery and you find it fitting to make a political statement. Come on guys, Senator Kennedy is in a fight for his life and I hope he is more focused on himself and his family rather then the wrangling Washington politics. Besides, the problems in Washington will not be solved by one man or by one political party.

Senator Kennedy,

It is sad for anyone to encounter the grave situation that you are facing at this point.
As a staunch Republican, I differ greatly with you. As a Christian, I grieve for your condition. I pray for a good recovery, whatever that is, with this cancer. I pray for the Lord to keep you comfortable as you address your treatments and potentially you reclaim your place in the Senate. Back where the playing field is more level. God Bless You.

Wouldn’t it be something if Mr. Kennedy wakes up after surgery and says “You know what - that Rush Limbaugh is absolutely right!”

May GOD guide your surgeon’s hand through this delicate surgery. You have been a very strong and brave man through this. Your positive attitude and faith will carry you through, and next year at this time, it will be but a bad memory. We need you back to help Barack and stop the wasteful spending of our government and get it on the right track. GOD SPEED

There is always some left wing person (loon)(comment by Osa) out there that has to bring politics into everything that goes on in the world. Can you not just say a prayer and relax a little. I am quite sure that the man would prefer to heal versus hearing your political rhetoric.

I hope that Senator Kennedy comes through the surgery; however, what I don’t understand is why he is treated as such a fine outstanding citizen. Doesn’t anyone remember that he left a young woman in the bottom of a river but somehow got himself out of the same car? An outrage indeed and so I don’t feel like we should immortalize this man; because he was a Kennedy he got away with murder in my opinion. And please don’t say I have no compassion; I am dealing with a brain tumor myself every day of my life and have been for the last 4 years. I don’t wish the man ill will; I just don’t get the fact that we dodge what he did earlier in his life like he did nothing wrong. If he was a true leader he would have led by example and called the police IMMEDIATELY after that car went in the water!

I pray for your complete recovery, even though I disagree with nearly everything you stand for.

Dear Senator Kennedy,
I hope the surgery goes well and that your recovery is swift and complete. I also hope that you retire from the political scene and have a long, joyous and peaceful recovery and retirement somewhere far from Washington and away from anyone else that can be further damaged by your politics. It will take decades to recover from many of the deals that you have been associated with and the hurt and pain you have caused this country. Please allow John McCain to start the process without interference.

Godspeed, Senator.

I hope and pray that Senator Kennedy’s surgery is successful and that he enjoys a full recovery. However, let’s not make this politcal. The Senator’s recovery has nothing to do with who the next President may or may not be, it has nothing to do with his accomplishments in the Senate and it has nothing to do with whether you’re a conservative, as I am, or a liberal. We wish him the best because he is a human being and he deserves to live a long and healthy life. No one should be sick, not ever.
