Another Rerun?
It doesn’t seem that long ago.
It all began one early fall morning on a street corner in Hollywood, our camera’s across the street from Paramount Studios as writers hit the picket lines. At the time, no one could have known that 100 days, 37,000 jobs and more than 2-billion dollars later, the strike would be over. We mentioned at the time the possibility that actors may be in the same situation, now we have arrived at the time.
done
The issue seems simple, but there’s a bit of a curve ball involved. Simply put, the actors want future and new media rights and compensation, more money for actors making less than $100,000 a year and a stronger pension. Negotiations with SAG (The Screen Actors Guild) are going nowhere, but the other and smaller actors union AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), has signed a deal that is currently being voted on. SAG leaders are urging people to oppose the deal because they feel a better deal can be reached. Currently 44,000 men and women are members of both unions, with results of the vote expected in about 7 days.
Meantime, the SAG contract expires tonight and leaders say they haven’t even called for a strike vote yet. Studio heads at this point say television production will go on and movies are wrapping up. Will new ones begin to shoot?
How long will shows shoot without a contract? Can the two unions work together? All these questions and many others are yet to be answered. Some actors are already taking sides, while others like George Clooney are calling for unity.
So today, we sit in Culver City. Sony Studios seems busy as normal, but the looming possibility of a strike has everyone passing by asking us what we think will happen and others worry about another stoppage and more lost wages…within the industry and many jobs indirectly supported on the outside.
No one should compare on how much one person is earning against the other person. Each one of us chooses our profession and we have the right to disagree with management if we think we are not getting the pay we deserve.
If the actors chooses to go on strike and the other profession that are associated with the actors profession are affected…guess what…these people (grip handlers, makeup, etc) chosed to be in that field. This is not the first strike that ever happened to Hollywood and not the first strike that ever happened in the US. Nurses goes on strike, sports players goes on strike, even Janitors here in Northern California just recently went on strike.
If anyone of you thinks that actors are being overpaid…all you have to do is stop watching any television, movies, plays, etc. But we all choose to be entertain by these professionals…they do not work for free…they have to get paid. If you think Will Smith does not deserve the $20 million per movie that he earns…stop contributing to his paycheck by stop watching his moves.
I am not in the entertainment industry…but one thing i know…no matter what work we all do…we all work to earn a living. Some work harder to achieve better jobs, better pay. Some are happy where they are…It is all a matter of choice. So to people who are whining…quit complaining…if you want to make over $100k per year…work hard, go to school.

When i first discovered the Hawaii 5-0 link i gave you, i wa able to watch certains clips of it. But now i cant. I wonder if the site is having technical difficulties? Maybe you should try another browser, instead of internet explorer, use Firefox or Safari. Just a suggestion.
I guess reality shows are entertaining to watch at 3am in the morning, when you are half asleep, and dont really have anything else to do. But i can find a ton more things i could do that is much more productive than that.
I saw the intro to Hawaii 5-O on youtube and it looks good, but it won’t let me watch on the CBS viewer.
I don’t know why people like reality shows, maybe people like to point and think “at least my life isn’t that bad”.
Brad: I’m about to go to bed, so i’m going to check out and comment on all you suggested i do in the morning.
Hawaii: At least it rarely gets over 90 there. And if i were to go there i think i’d spend most of my time looking at the natural wonders. Maybe one afternoon at the beach, but most beaches are pretty much the same.
Wilford: Yes, Redeye is where i first heard of him. Tomorrow morning long comment!
Hey Max-
I have visited Hawaii many times, and its a place i am hoping to go there and live one of these days. The weather is kind of hot and humid, but you kind of get used to it after a while. I guess its a whole lot better than freezing cold tempuratures.
If you ever get a chance to visit there, but sure to stay away from the tourist trap, and savor some of the local culture and food.
You definately need to check out that site i posted for you in a previous post.
http://www.mjq.net/
It gives you an extensive listing to all the episodes of Hawaii 5-0.
Also check on Youtube, and search for that show. They have some awesome clips you may be interested in.
I also found this site while on google. its the news channel for Hawaii, and they have full episodes available for you to watch on streaming video. Check it out here:
http://kgmb9.com/main/content/view/6134/209/
After you cut and paste this link, go to the right hand corner where it says classics, and click on Hawaii 5-0.
A lot of tv programs on the air right now all mostly reality shows. I dont see what is the fasination with them. They are so fake, they are just like tv dramas, written by screenwriters, and staged to make it look spontaneous. I can even tell you the formula that is used in those, just by watching them frequently.
I really think Cover Me should have been given a 2nd chance. USA Network didnt even let the show develop and have a fan base. It would have been more successful if they did so.
I dont really know who Wilford Brimley is either, if you watch Red Eye during the late night hours on FoxNews. The host mentioned that he was a supporter of John McCain. I did some searching on imdb and other sites, and it turns out he used to act in those famous television western movies back in the day.
Brad: No, i’ve never been to Hawaii. And i don’t think i’ve ever seen Hawaii Five-O. At least not an entire episode if i did.
Just so you know i’m 19 so most of these shows i only saw on re-runs in the UK.
Also when i was a little kid i watched a lot on Discovery Channel, they used to have things like ‘Volcano Month’ so i learnt a lot about volcanos there, and my elemtry school was near the Natural History Museum here, so my mother took me there every friday (yay dinosaurs!) and they have a great exhibit on volcanic activity. I’ve only been around Europe and the east coast of the US.
Cover Me sounds like the best of those 3, at least for me.
Re Writers: maybe making fun of the discfunction of the consequences of the culture hollywood promotes got them out of favor with most directors.
X-files: If my friend wants to see it i will probably go with him.
I’ve heard of Wilford Brimley, but i’m not sure if i’ve seen anything with him in, at least not knowingly.
Max-
Have you heard of Wilford Brimley? He is longtime character actor and a stauch conservative. I know he recently is doing those diabetes commericial called Liberty Medical Supply.
Max-
And X-Files movie is coming out later on this month, that you may be interested in. Check it out here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443701/
No problem Susan-
If you ever need any help or advice on any subject, dont be afraid to ask.
Max-
I also noticed a couple of the screenwriters from Married With Children doing Disney Channel tv shows. I wonder if its because they arent in demand anymore?’
Max-
Sci Fi is owned by USA Network, that is probably the reason why it was airing on that channel.
Check out the internet movie database for more info on those shows:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250157/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0163953/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233491/
I just recently saw that actress in the Huntress in a sitcom called My Boys.
I remember Married with Children, that was one oft he first sitcoms on the Fox network, besides The Simpsons.
Ed O’Neill has been a very successful character actor since then, i remember seeing him in a dozen tv shows movies after that. He recently did a commericial for ATandT. He also recently starred in a remake of the old cop show Dragnet, but with little success, because it was cancelled halfway through the season.
I guess when a successful actor doesnt speak up about his political beliefs, its safe to assume he is a conversative
Do you happen to remember Hawaii Five-0? That was one of the longest running police dramas in the US, until Law and Order passed it.
I guess you have visited Hawaii many times, since you seen very familiar with the island. I believe it was a lava stream. I read that many residents who live down there are plagued with VOG, which is sulfur dioxide in the air. Its very similar to what the folks in California are experiencing, with all the pollutants in the air. Not to mention all those wildfires burning up in the mountains.
Brad: Being in England we’re never had that channel. I had to watch the Dead Zone on SciFi. What were those other shows like? Any good?
I first watched X-files last summer, my friend and I were going to try and watch all of them, but we got bored in season 5. Too many “funny” episodes, and the mistery had begun to fade.
My favorite TV show was Married With Children. I’ve no idea about the Politics of Ed O’Neil, but since he’s never spoken out about his politics he could well be a conservative.
Either that or he respects the politcal process.
Re the Volcano, was it a lava stream or an exploding one?
Personally i find the streams far more beautiful than one that’s exploding. Which is good considering how safe they are. Unless you fall into the stream you’re pretty much safe. They are very slow, so there’s no sudden splashes. I remember video of the volcano eruption in the congo and they showed how people were still living in their home when lava was coming down the street from the other end, but it moves so slowy they were waiting there and if it got past stakes they’d put in the side of the road they’d start to pack, but they had already being waiting several days, the stream was moving at a spead of 1 inch an hour, so they felt safe waiting to see if the lava would stop before it got to their hut.
Brad and Max–
love your conversations going on over here– I did not watch one minute of tele yesterday as I was gone again all day!! I see your posts, Brad, on the fire thread about some of the news I missed!
Happy Birthday Tamera!!!
and thanks for the help Brad!
Max– xxxx
On the Fox Report tonight they showed a pic of an active volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii that was still active. It looked pretty scary, but breathtaking up close.
Max-
Also remember those short lived shows they had on the USA Network before the Dead Zone, including the Huntress, Cover Me- The true life story of a FBI family, and The Net? Fond memories.
Max-
I guess that is the way it is, when you are a famous Hollywood star, and a conservative, you cant even open your mouth and speaking your mind, for fear of retrabution and paycheck from the far left elitists. I guess that was what happened with the late Charlton Heston, i heard he was blacklisted because changed sides.
I believe Ric Flair and Curt Schilling are a couple of conservative republicans. I am a bigger fan of them, now i know they share some of my views.
Correct me if i am wrong, but I also believe Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune is another example.
I dont know, i really havent watched the final seasons of the Dead Zone, so i cant say. But i do know they killed off a couple of the major characters after the creator passed away. I dont know if it led to the shows demise, but its one of those mysteries of life we may never know.
Btw, if you are a X-Files fan, you definately should check out this guys site. Its very informative, he has info on Hawaii Five-0 also. I guess those are two of the his favorite programs.
http://www.mjq.net/
Susan: *starts jumping up and down*. It may well help McCain, have to see what congress does when it returns from recess. As long as the focus is on the military opperations, and not the aligations of Columbia paying for their release, assuming they are false. A showing of military force accomplising something diplomacy never did really supports his message and undermines Obama’s.
Brad: Sandler was supporting Rudi, he’s definately Republican, but i’m not sure how conservative.
Grammer is supporting McCain. I think because of the animous towards Republicans among hollywood elite a lot of these actors were supporting the Republicans quietly in the past, but since McCain is a moderate Republican they’ve seen this as a chance to oppenly support the Republicans without being branded as far right.
Having not seen recent episodes of the Dead Zone i’d have to guess it suffered in a similar way to the X-files, as the series progressed the mystery of the backstories were slowly reveiled, which removed a lot of the mystery and suspence found in the early seasons. And then also the story lines began to rely to heavily on the viewers knowlage of past episodes to fully make sense. Is that what happened to Dead Zone or not?
Susan-
I dont really think so, but you really shoulsnt upload to much programs on your computer. They can conflict with each other if you arent careful, and cause certain problems. But i wouldnt worry about it too much.

I know what you mean about certain posts not coming thru. I have had that problem several days ago also. And it still didnt get approved. If your comments still dont come up, maybe you should try and post it on Janice’s blog, and i will answer it there.

I have McAfee, Registry Smart, and Ad Aware on my computer– will these conflict with firefox?

Brad–
I have McAfee– Registry Smart and Ad Aware Alert on my computer–
So will firefox conflict with these? And thanks for the help!
xxxx
Max-
Plus The Dead Zone is also on the Sci fi channel. Did you know its owned by the USA Network also? Its a part of the Viacome family of companies.
Susan-
I dont think it will conflct with your Anti Virus software, but if you download a firewall system, that might be a problem.
I prefer you go with the Norton Anti Virus System. It costs a lot, but its really effective in preventing phishing, identity theft, and other bad things that can happen to your computer. It gives you alerts when it detects a virus on a website you are visiting, not to mention when you have updates that you need to upload for your computer.
Firefox also tells you when it blocks pop up ads from websites you visit too, so its a good browser to stick with. It doesnt take very long to download, so i hope you will decide to do it soon.
where is my post to Brad? Was it not approved?
and why?
Susan-
What that general said to McCain was totally uncalled for, but he didnt appear on FNC, it was those other liberal biased networks. It really makes me upset to watch those.
I totally agree with you about all these muders. That is why you should stay with Greta, and not those other biased channels.
Brad–
if I upload firefox will it conflict with my anti-spyware or can it run on its own?
I appreciate the help!!
xxx
Susan-
That general who dissed McCain was never on Hannity of any other FNC show. Most of his appearences was on those liberal left wing networks. You should try to stay away from them. It will just make you angry and upset.
I heard about all those murders on Greta. But i dont see why you have to check out Nancy Grace? Its part of the liberal smear machine of hate?
In my opinion, FNC is the only channel you need to stay on.
Susan-
I have seen that runtime error message before, but only when i use internet explorer, i also get a message telling you that an error has occured, and my computer has to restart over again. I think its the websites you visit, plus your browser. You need to either upload Firefox(if you havent already), plus Safari. Those two will keep you safe.
From my experience, those rumtime error message usually happen when there are too many programs running in your computer’s hard drive. That is why you need to delete the “cookies” from your browser. Refer back to my previous message for details.
And if you go to those social networking site, those contain a ton of viruses, commonly found in thoe backgrounds and layouts. If you have one, i recommend deleting it immediately.
But if you must, you should go with Yahoo360, its really good.
@socal–
boy did you make me laugh!!!! LOL and LOL and LOL!!!!!!!!!!
Max-
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The first season of the Dead Zone, was really good, but as the show went on, the quality of the writing wasnt really up to par. I still found the time to watch it, but i think even since the producer, Michael Piller passed away, it just wasnt the same.
I didnt know Adam Sandler was a conservative. Thanks for the heads up, i might actually go and see more of his movies. He is a really talented guy, cowriting and producing all of this projects.
I believe Kelsey Grammer is also a conservative. I hope he is taking care of himself, after that heart attack he had on vacation.
The Columbian Hostage story had a great ending. It could have been much worse. FNC did a much better time covering it, with their news updates. No one can beat them, not even those liberal networks. God Bless America, this great land we live in
Patty-
Thanks for the link. That is a very heartwarming story. Its great to see advances done to combat this terrible disease autism. I am also glad that steps are being taken to rid our vaccines from those deadly mercury, there are reports they could be the cause.

Adam– your comment to LDG was funny— I have to use a dictionary when he posts comments– that man is brilliant! LOL
Patty– Erma Bombeck was a class act! May she Rest In Peace!
And Ingrid has gotten to see her children after six years– sob and sob!

Thanks Adam for posting that, it explains a lot if you are busy there is no way for us to post.
Happy 4th to all. (tomorrow) Be careful out there!

thursday morning test post of the second week of “technical difficulties”…
EVERYONE-
New thread/post. I am covering yet another fire here in the west. It is going to be a loooooong summer and fall as rains don’t historically come until late October. Also, got some info in regards to the posting issue. Because Fox uses the same filter for the blogs, when we get hammered by spam and unique people making bad comments (read into that what you want), it throws everyone into a holding pattern and I have to click to approve. I, of course approve everyone. Even Gringo!!
So, if I am on the road or driving, it may take a bit, or if it is later in the evening and I am sleeping. We are working on making the process easier and faster. I promise, no one is sitting there and making sure LDG uses proper engwish! Seriously, hang with me. And Susan….THANK YOU!!
Adam
Have a Happy and Safe 4th everyone!
A sincere Thank You to the all the military (past and present) and their families for our freedoms!
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.
~Erma Bombeck
Wishing everyone a nice safe holiday weekend.
Adam you looked very handsome last night on Fox.
Montana
I cant fathom how helpless and selfish people can be, leaving that lady in the hospital, neglecting her for 24 hours. She was in need of emergency help, and nobody bothered even to lend a helping hand. That is exactly why i try and avoid hospitals, i would rather go to a alternative medicine clinic. Its a whole lot safer over there.
I guess you guys saw what happened to that 12 year old girl, what a tragic ending. Its really sad that a poor helpless girl could have her life taken from her for a madman. They just found her decomposing body earlier this evening. Its really disgusting that a family member could do such a horrific thing. If you cant trust your family these days, then who can you trust? What is this world coming to?
Suzanne,
I got my gift!! Thank you sooooooo much! You made me cry. The plaque was right on time. Yo are a sweet heart. I’ll wear my shirt and take a pic and have Adam post it on the blog:)
Thanks sooo much!
Tamera
CNN is really kicking FOX’s Butt in this hostage release coverage. All live footage. All fox does is show bits of taped stuff and running tickers on it………..SHAME ON FOX! Lazy bastards!
CNN is doing a great job on it.

El candidato republicano a la Presidencia de E.U., John McCain, concluyó este miércoles una corta visita a Colombia y viajó a México, donde analizará la Iniciativa Mérida, un plan de combate al crimen organizado y el narcotráfico.
McCain concluded his short visit to Colombia and is now headed to Mexico where he will analyze the Merida Initiative– a plan to combat organized crime and drug trafficking–
Now we know where he is headed!
Max–
Let’s start really jumping up and down with joy when everyone is home safe and sound– I am sooo happy! Imagine being held captive in a jungle– tied up to a tree!
… (and it is “Colombia”- LOL– lots of people spell the Republic of Colombia or the country with a “u”) - and I am only correcting you because you have corrected me in the past on mistakes I would not have caught myself–
This will help McCain– what do you think?
missed you!

Adam - this story is only somewhat interesting. lol not sure who to feel sorry for. It’s like “which came first …the chicken or the egg”, one could argue that without the great actors the story wouldn’t make a good movie/show but you could also argue that without the stories we’d have no need for actors.
I think I’m pulling for the writers (even though I hate most of the cra# the put out). Actually, I’m pulling for all the “little people” who’s jobs will be effected by a strike!
Hey Adam - don’t forget to tell your FoxNews buddies to look for me at the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona this weekend!!!!! I’ll be working the drink cart in front of the Checkers Trailer (the one furthest west) under the Sprint Tower.
What a sicko! I wish with every fiber of my being these people would get caught by somebody that doesn’t care about their rights!
The posting is fast now, but not instant.
Great news from Columbia. I’m sure they’re all happy to be free, and likely coming home soon. Interesting for it to conincide with McCains visit.
Patty—
I had to turn Greta last night when she started talking about Brooke and what was going on– I did get to see a picture of Brooke– and it just tore my heart out!! And that serial killer was caught– Illinois!! I can’t watch this stuff anymore– one of his victims was a 93 year old– I am too affected by this– And then Nancy Grace was all over these stories too– I ended up reading! There are way tooooooooo many sick and evil people out in this world!! Way toooo many!

KC ribs, briskett, potato salad the kind you like, tea, watermelon, beans, pies, and homemade ice cream. Perhaps a beer or two not sure about that, will be ready 1 CST come on down! Love to have ya~
Socal - I agree- Chavez is probably drowning his sorrows by chewing more coca leaves or paste!
Remember when he was ‘negotiating’ the release of Bentacourt? So much for Chavez’s pull. Appears his biggest ally was lost in the raid earlier this year!
So glad to hear of the freeing of the hostages. Their story will be very interesting.

Is Clark still at it? He was on Hannity’s the other night shooting off his mouth– I think it was Hannity’s-
McCain in is in Colombia now– you know socal, Chavez is got to be real upset– I am so happy to know these people are released– but I will do the cheering when I see them all home, safe and sound! I would love to hear what Ingrid B- has to say!
Brad– what does runtime error mean? Something like this– Everytime I turn the computer on, this pops up– something to that effect it reads! It says it is on the C drive– I will write it down next time I log out and then log in– so you know exactly what I mean– and thanks!

Columbia raided the FARC compound that held their ex presidential hopeful and the 3 american hostages yesterday. CNN is show video of it right now. Boy, thats gotta piss off Chavez.
Tamera,
I am from Ohio and people I know in the midwest cannot relate to show business problems. Many Ohioans do not make salaries even close to what actors make. I’m sure you are a very nice person. You need to realize though that many people are not sympathetic to actors striking. Maybe actors need to get the word out about all their expenses and perhaps people will understand the situation.
By the way the average American household income is approxtmately $60,000/year.
Just saw the news of the rescued FARC hostages. Many happy families today!
Great News.
Brad, Wesley Clark needs to learn to keep his mouth shut………I have yet to hear anything intelligent come out of his mouth. Which is probably why his tenure with Fox News was so short!
Alfredo–

Here is some great news!!
From Reuters
July 2, 2008
Colombia said today it rescued French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and three Americans from leftist guerrillas who had held them for years in secret jungle camps.
What does everyone here think about that general dissing John McCain over his military service. I think he is just ruining things for this star candidate he supports, BHO. Because he is the one with absolutely no military experience whatsoever.
Colombian Army rescued 15 hostages including Ingrid Bethancourt and 3 North Americans
Bravo president Uribe!!!

Patty,
I am so sorry about the loss of your child. Nothing will ever ease that kind of pain and my heart goes out to you.
I appreciate you standing up for me, but don’t worry about me. I can handle a teenager who has never really experienced life. We all have our own problems life throws at us, some have more than others. I hope Avi has an easy, happy life where everything goes his way. I hope he never experiences the loss of a loved one who’s life is cut way too short. Most of us don’t have that luxory. Many of us started out with nothing, got an education, and made it the hard way. The things we have to work the hardest for are more rewarding than those things that are handed to us. This generation doesn’t start from nothing…..their parents are wealthier than my parents and my husband’s parents were, and many things are taken for granted.
So when I say I don’t care about the actors’ strike it’s because it is so minor in comparison to what goes on in the world. Avi just needs to experience the real world to get better perspective.
Sylvia,
By the way, I do know nurses who make 80,000 to 100,000 a year. And yes traveling nurses are SOME of them. Oh and FYI actors have to pay agents 10% plus managers 15% of all their salaries. That’s 25% plus the 1/3 that goes to the government! Some of us are in the hugher tax bracket! You add that up and see whats left!!!!!!. Where are you from? Just wondering. You also have to take into consideration that most actors in the business need publicists who we have to pay 2500 up to 4500 a month! And we need all three in my field. There is no way around it.
Avi, your the best:) I think if we all look at this situation through Avi’s eyes we will not be as narrow minded on the issue.
Sylvia, your simply just not getting the point. And you never will because your not an actress. I think the best way to debate this issue is to have empathy on both sides. Yes, we should strike and yes we should do it quickly so our wonderful grips, electricians, etc. can get paid and move on to making wonderful TV show, movies, etc. It’s unfortunate that others will be hurt in the process, but I think its naive to think our world doesn’t operate this way. I can think of many positive situations where because of one positive event, there might be a negative linked somehow. Sometimes, we have to do what we have to do. For example, although I think the war in Iraq is needed, think of all the civilians, children, etc. who are either killed or being negatively effected by it! So, should we not be at war because of the latter?
And to make assumptions that actors in general don’t care about the people behind the scenes is completely untrue. Do you personally know any actors? I consider myself a successful actress and know many who aren’t anything like you depict. You are entitled to your opinions, but I sense you don’t view actors as important or equal as other professions and that’s were your issues are embedde
