Tony Snow and his Reds

Others knew him much better, many of my colleagues are much closer, but I do cherish the friendship I enjoyed with Tony Snow. Like the time I ended up in the LA Bureau late and he was hungry, all he wanted was some Chinese food. “Hey Housley”, he said. “Can you find me some Chinese food?” We jumped in my car and headed down the street, where I bought him dinner and listened to so many great stories. What amazed me was how I really felt like he cared about my opinions and what I felt on an issue. Whether baseball (he was a big fan) or border issues. In fact, on a trip to Washington D.C, and coincidentally just a few days before he accepted the position in the White House, Tony heard I was in town and called me into his office. I remember thinking…wow…Tony Snow actually cares that I am in D.C.! He showed me the radio studio, teased Griff Jenkins and myself, then spent an hour asking me about baseball and about the border. At one point he even asked “what would you do?” This was a guy who even when he had no time, he found some. Time he spent humoring a correspondent based 3,000 miles away.

Sometimes the best way to measure someone is to understand how they treat those that maybe aren’t so close. Here is the best example. On a trip to Mexico City I was having breakfast with a man named Miguel Monterrubio; at the time he was the foreign press secretary for President Calderon. During our morning chat, Miguel mentioned he was a big baseball fan and a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds. I remembered that every time Tony and I chatted he cherished his Reds, so upon returning home to the states, I dropped Tony an e-mail. I mentioned that I had met Miguel and that he was a big Reds fan and that Tony should say hello when the Presidents meet in Merida. Much to my surprise, the plane had only been on the ground for a few minutes in Merida, Mexico when Tony asked President Calderon about Miguel and then headed right to the man and shook his hand. Miguel would tell me later that he was shocked, proud and grateful for such a gesture. Tony would later return to Washington and send Miguel a signed photo of the President throwing out the first pitch at a Reds game. Miguel hangs that picture and Tony’s note proudly. All that from an e-mail.

While not a best friend, or even a close friend, I too will miss Tony’s friendship. I sent him an e-mail only last week. I hope he got the chance to see it. I am lucky to have known him and I was very lucky to work on ‘Weekend Live’ every weekend and guest on “The Tony Snow’ radio show. He was always very warm and welcoming to me in every single instance. Always joking over the satellite while we were in commercial, usually teasing me about my teams (the Giants and A’s), or suggesting I should get warmed up to go back into the game. He will be missed and I am happy to say that I knew him. We should all have his energy, love of country and warmth.

I am from Cincinnati and I know Tony loved his Reds and Bengals. Although I never got to meet him, I felt I knew him personally from seeing him on TV. He was a gentleman as well as a terrific pundit. I also think he was tops as a press secretary. He will be missed.
My heart goes out to his family.

Sylvia….also a Reds/Bengals fan

What a great man. I still can’t believe he’s gone.

I’ve been watching him since Fox News started … and I was so excited when he became the Press Secretary. He was AWESOME… no one did a better job than Tony.

I pray for his sweet family and his friends….

the only comfort there is, is that he is in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.

God Bless.

Tony Snow..what a sad loss. Such a honorable, respected man, a tough loss to understand, even for those of us that didn’t know him personally. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all those at Fox.

A BRIDGE CALLED LOVE
It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.
And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.
There is a bridge of memories
from earth to Heaven above…
It keeps our dear ones near us
It’s the bridge that we call love.

I first discovered Tony when many years ago he subbed for Rush one day, which happaned to be Valentine day. His tribute to his wife moved me, and I became an instant fan. Unfortunately, in Canada we did not get Fox News , so it wasn’t till a local Buffalo Fox station began broadcasting FNS that I was able to enjoy his work. We certainly lost another good guy today, God Bless.

Adam, your post is awesome and then some.

Mr. Snow was a wonderful gentleman and he will be missed by all.

Please tell your friend Greta to speak up on her blog and stop the ugly posts that are being put up.

This is one time her hits should not count.

fox needs to step in too and put his photo up everywhere.

Adam–

that was beautiful what you posted. I hope he got to see your email.
I have been watching the coverage Fox has been doing on him- I couldn’t help but get all choked up when they should the footage on his last day at the White House– everyone was outside waving to him!

And this what you wrote choked me up–I dropped Tony an e-mail. I mentioned that I had met Miguel and that he was a big Reds fan and that Tony should say hello when the Presidents meet in Merida. Much to my surprise, the plane had only been on the ground for a few minutes in Merida, Mexico when Tony asked President Calderon about Miguel and then headed right to the man and shook his hand..

Lucky you for having had the pleasure of meeting him!

But on the flip side– lucky me to have met you as I feel you are just as sincerely nice and genuine as Tony Snow! You do have his warmth! I KNOW this!

Though just outside of it, living “inside the Beltway” can result in a feeling of familiarity with national figures that is not easily obtained elsewhere in the country. Such is the case, and I am better for it, with Tony Snow. Whether as a columnist, on television, or on the radio, his optimism and kindness were infectious.

I am greatly saddened today by the news of Tony’s passing, but in trying to capitalize on the sense of optimism that he imbued to everything he did, I encourage myself to remember a quote by Patton about the deceased: “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived.” And it is this thought that I trust will buoy my spirits this day.

I have, and will continue to miss him. May God bless his family.

Adam Wonderful Tribute to a great man! Knew he loved baseball, I often wondered how much he and GWB talked about the game. GWB loves baseball with a passion.

I have written a blurb on my blog about him, I also linked an article that Tony wrote in 2005, he updated it once he was diagnosed with metastasized cancer in 2007. Tony’s words will carry me on, his faith was deeper after cancer than before. He understood the beast, and power.

Taking this day pretty hard we were diagnosed with cancer months apart, he was a personal hero of mine before cancer, and how he felt I also felt. The beast in many ways made Tony and me better people.

Thanks for the warm welcome to Doreen, she is safe as well as her home.

Tony Snow was one of the best, bravest, nicest person I’ve ever watched on TV and looked forward to seeing how he would handle the media when he became press secretary.

Our sincere condolences go out to his family, Fox News and all of his friends and relatives.

He will surely be missed but I’m sure he will be working as one of heavens press secretaries now and doing a wonderful job, as he always did here.

Tony Snow was one the very finest men I ever had the opportunity to meet. He will be missed terribly, but our Creator (whatever you wish to call Him) now has one of the finest press secretaries ever to have worked the White House. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, please remeber that Tony’s long battle is now over, the pain is gone and he is at peace and waiting for us to catch up.

Godspeed, Tony.

I met Tony Snow when President Bush stopped at the Sioux City Air Guard base during a campaign stop. I was asked to help him find a snack machine while we waited for Air Force One to land.

We talked while we waited, I wll always remember how down to earth he was, and so proud that he was able to attend his daughter’s recital the previous night – his face just lit up as he talked about it.

In a hallway full of dignitaries waiting to greet the President, Tony pulled me beside him and made sure someone took a picture of us together. I keep that picture of “my friend, Tony Snow,” as I teasingly tell my coworkers, on my desk at work – his big smile always makes me feel better.
Soon after, I was saddened to hear about the cancer, and sent him an email note on the White House website. A few months later, I was touched to receive a personal email from Tony thanking me for my note and prayers.

“My Friend, Tony Snow”, I’m proud to have met you. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.

Adam thanks for the remembrance of Tony. Every so often usually at a late stage in life someone considered to be a great man passes on. On his life I may weigh his accomplishments and consider what changes he made in my life or the world, for some libraries will be crowded with their history.
I never met Tony but I did call him once when he was filling in for Rush just after George W appeared to have clinched the nomination. Most of the calls were berating McCain for what they considered McCain’s disdain of the Reagan legacy. Tony was asking for patience at that point to give McCain a chance.
In my call I said that John relished the spotlight received as the “Maverick” too much to stay on the ranch, that the Rep’ only had 51 votes to keep him corralled and a least 4 of those were not comfortable on cutting horses.
We ended the conversation with a bet on lunch at a Bethesda restaurant about whether McCain would stay or wander. To this day I’m not sure who owed who the lunch.
As mentioned at the beginning some men seem to be born to have books written about them.
Tony Snow was born to let us see that we can be better people than we are. I believe that Tony has been called to do a bigger job than could be fit into his mortal body.

Waking up this morning to the news of Tony’s passing was incredibly heartbreaking. A man I never knew, only watched and admired has profoundly skewed my outlook on everyday life. I watched a clip today that showed his boyish delight while working on the White House grounds and showed his genuine excitement for where his life had led him. That’s how I want to remember him.

I have to say before Tony I never took even a minute to watch the news, let alone get into politics. He was so amaing the first time I saw him, I couldn’t help but want to learn more about politics. As time went on I trusted him more than any other person on TV news. Tony was not only a great man, but he was very loved by America. America’s prayers go out to his family and freinds. May we learn to live in the grace that he did.

When I moved from the UK to the USA, 12 years ago, I despaired at ever being able to find a TV News program that I could enjoy – they all seemed so left-wing. The I discovered Fox News and the first person I saw on there was Tony Snow. I felt as though I had “come home”. He was so gracious to his guests and his smile, sense of humor and knowledge were utterly captivating. I became hooked on the program and hooked on Tony! In this harsh world of cynicism he was a light of hope, humanity and gentility. God Bless Tony and his family.

It puts life into perspective how life can be so short! Never take anything or anyone for granted!

I would like to add on to this as this post came up quickly-

Personal note! When my father died unexpectedly four years ago, I sobbed for months day in and day out– not because of his demise but because of my guilt I had. For he was a difficult man and I lost my temper with him at times maybe not understanding his issues- the death of his wife and his blindness which depressed him. I thought I could talk him out of this but he was not willing so I would lose my temper.

He would come to stay with me a few months here out of the year and upon his last visit at the airport, I told him I loved him and I would see him again in a few months– but this was the last time- so when his unexpected death came as a phone call to me, I just cried and thought to myself, I wish I had told more often than not how much I loved him- My tears came more from regrets than his death!

My most valuable lesson I learned was to try to always treat the ones I love everyday as this may be the last time!

Though his time was all too brief — it was all *quality* time . . . and, for his loved ones:

I Am Free

Do not grieve for me for now I am free
I am following the path God laid for me
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I have found that peace at close of day

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah, yes, these things I, too, will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life has been full, I have savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free

You listen and hear and than try as you always did to make them understand what was real. I hear today that the oil companys has all this land to drill why don’t they drill. I can hear you saying will to drill where there is no oil would be like thinking Obama back packing around the country gives him the learning to run the USA. I loved listening to you and for standing up for Bush. For I voted for Bush and think what he did was the best we had to fight back we had to do our best. Mr Snow you will be missed. Tony Snow was a Great American who lived a very full and satisfying life during his 53 years than most people will ever get the chance during their lifetimes. Even when faced with the challenge of battling his cancer, he always had a positive outlook on life, even during his last days. He was also a kind and genuine person. A lot of people that had cancer looked up to Tony, as a brave and great spirited person. Not to mention all the charities he had raised money for.

My hearts and sympathies go out to the entire Snow family. They are in my prayers to get them through this tough time.

Tim Russert’s tragic death was equally sad, although i didnt agree with his liberal views, he was kind person, just like Tony Snow was. Tim was the only journalist on a liberal biased network, who always tried to be fair and balanced and relentless in his interviewing skills. He would have made a great addition to FNC, if he had only decided to join their team.

Thank you for the lovely tribute to a lovely man. I never met Tony personally, although I did see him in person during a White House briefing during 2007’s CPAC White House briefing (and even before he bagan to speak, the crowd stood and cheered — he indeed had a”rock star”charisma to many admirers.) But I watched him on television, listened to him on radio, and watched him spar with reporters when he was press secretary, and one gets a good sense of a person through the media of television and radio. He was a man of powerful intelligence and incredible integrity. While he had a multitude of fans, he was not a “crowd pleaser” when it came to his principles — he didn’t waver back and forth but maintained the same high principles throughout his amazing career.

I too lost a dear husband to cancer several years ago, so I feel very deeply for his wife and children at this time. I will offer a prayer for Tony and his family today — and urge others to do the same.

thought this was cute.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

BARACK OBAMA:
The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

JOHN MC CAIN:
My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON:
When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure — right from Day One! — that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn’t about me…

DR. PHIL:
The problem we have here is that this chicken won’t realize that he must first deal with the problem on ‘THIS’ side of the road before it goes after the problem on the ‘OTHER SIDE’ of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he’s acting by not taking on his ‘CURRENT’ problems before adding ‘NEW’ problems.

OPRAH:
Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I’m going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GEORGE W. BUSH:
We don’t really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

COLIN POWELL:
Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road…

ANDERSON COOPER – CNN:
We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JOHN KERRY:
Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken’s intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

NANCY GRACE:
That chicken crossed the road because he’s GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN:
To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART:
No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer’s Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS:
Did the chicken cross the road?
Did he cross it with a toad?
Yes, the chicken crossed the road,
But why it crossed I’ve not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY:
To die in the rain. Alone.

GRANDPA:
In my day we didn’t ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS:
Isn’t that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE:
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON:
Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES:
I have just released eChicken2008, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Chicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra…#@&&^(C% …….. Reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN:
Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON:
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE:
I invented the chicken!

COLONEL SANDERS:
Did I miss one?

DICK CHENEY:
Where’s my gun?

AL SHARPTON:
Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us about Tony. I didn’t know he was a Reds fan even though if I used a tiny piece of my brain I should have figured it out “the Big Red Machine” was probably one of the happiest moments in his life.

Followed Greta’s link to your page and looked at the photos of the fire you covered. We still have smoke in Reno and this is now the third week. I am not sure if I saw blue sky last night or not or wishful thinking.

Take care and stay safe from an unhappy Giants fan these days!

When Tony filled in for Rush Limbaugh, he talked about his love of music and guitar playing specifically; I sent him an email asking what guitars he had and to my surprise he actually responded! To me it personified the type of guy he was to take the time to ‘talk shop’ about one of his hobbies with another who had the same interest.
Even though he had reached the top of his profession, he remained to be one with a genuine heart for others in the public discourse of his career. I’ll miss you, Tony.

Susan-

I am terribily sorry for what happened to your father. I guess even thought the both of you were constantly at odds with each other, i am sure deep inside he loved you. You have to remember the good times you had with him.

And please dont hold any feelings of regret, hate or guilt towards your father. Life is way too short to harbor those kinds of feelings.

Take Care.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories and rememberence. You folks have been really fortunate and lucky to meet Tony Snow. It will be something you all will remember for the rest of your lives. I hope you you able to get pics and an autograph.

Susan and everyone-

Maybe we all should make a special tribute to Tony, and then send it to his widow and 3 children. I am sure they would appriciate it very much.

My heart has been heavy all day since learning of Tony Snow’s passing. My heartfelt sympathy goes to his family and his co-workers. What a loss for our country. His example has inspired me to be more positive, loving, and kind to all I meet.

He may be gone but never forgotten.

Ya know, Adam, I could send this comment to Fox but I wanted to keep it local. I never met the man, but you can tell the sincere person he was by the way he treated others. I loved the guy. I’ll come right out and say it, I’m a 51 yr old grown adult male and I can’t stop the tears for a person I feel like I’m related to. Why do bad things happen to good people? I wish I had the resources to do something positive for his family. This will take me a long time to get over.

God bless Tony Snow. He was a woderful person, who will be missed. I enjoyed him on fox News and radio. May god bless his wife and children. My heart and prayers go out to them. He will always be with you spiritually.

Adam your words here are spoken as a friend. Thanks for sharing this.

Here is a bit of an article written by Tony Snow in July of 2007——Amen!!

“I don’t know why I have cancer, and I don’t much care. It is what it is—a plain and indisputable fact. Yet even while staring into a mirror darkly, great and stunning truths begin to take shape. Our maladies define a central feature of our existence: We are fallen. We are imperfect. Our bodies give out.

But despite this—because of it—God offers the possibility of salvation and grace. We don’t know how the narrative of our lives will end, but we get to choose how to use the interval between now and the moment we meet our Creator face-to-face.”

Brad-

those were nice comments you posted– Thanks for the comment about my father– I learned a lesson from his passing.

I am sure his wife and children are probably getting so many letters, emails, etc.

Bill O’ did a nice tribute to Tony Snow too.

My heart also goes out to the nine US soldiers who were just killed in Afghanistan by the Pakistan border.

(I have a very funny link which I am not posting here– it is going on the fire thread– Greta would love this as she has tried so many times to get Obama on her show– )

Adam, Enjoyed your stories re: Tony Snow. Started watching Fox News when I succumbed to Direct TV and always felt I got a true and honest dialogue on an issue. Was heartsick when I heard he had died. However your letter was meaningful and comforting. I know his family will appreciate it. Sincerely, jvk

I am very sorry to hear of Tony’s death. I enjoyed him greatly. What a wonderful man. I had not seen him until he was press secretary and I enjoyed watching him. Made sure I watched him every time he was on the TV. He was amazing. I thought you know if this guy ever runs for president he has my vote. His wisdom, intelligence, integrety and good humor made him one in a million. Glad to hear about what a wonderful man and father he was. Also enjoyed seeing his joy in music. He was truly a man for all seasons.
My condolences and prayers to his family and friends

I totally agree, nobody knows the great courage and sacrifice these soliders are dealing with in a daily basis. God Bless to them.

I dont think BHO should even appear on Greta of Bill OReilly. He has been critical of FNC, according to what i read, so why give those liberal networks a chance.

My deepest prayerful sympathies and condoleances to the entire family of Mr Tony Snow, as well as to Very Honorable President G.W. Bush, the White House, and all beautiful appreciative Americans and people across all party politics and walks of life.
Mr Tony Snow had great carisma and an encouraging humor even at trying times.
I was very saddened at hearing about his health, and had hoped to write after finding some good health advice that could make him strong again.
Now, the tireless spirit of his service and sense of tireless duty at difficult times will remain as a shining example.
It is never too late to gladden his Soul and Memory by doing good, encouraging or helping others.
Doing good on behalf of the departed not only makes the world a better place, but also gladdens the soul of the doers of good.
Praying that his Tony’s soul will grow in spirit of joy and confirmation in all the worlds hereafter. Sincerely, P. Shahir
May God bless and strengthen the wife, childen and loved ones and friends of Mr Tony Snow !

I did not discover the fox news channel until 1999 I think. Right before the election. The face of Tony was the face of Fox for me. I used to get a tear in my eye everytime he had the comments at the end of the Sunday show. Tony and Brit Hume have both been so dear to my heart. Like everyone says, we lost a great American and such a rising star. Tony will be waiting with open arms for that family of his one day and I know he finds peace and joy in the arms of a loving savior today.

There just are no more words to express the sadness at Tony’s having passed to the next stage of Life. We are missing him but her has ventured to a much better place.

We always held a very high opinion of him but when he took the time to send a thank you for our having sent him prayers and best wishes at the beginning of his illness, we knew he was a genuinely wonderful person who lived the things he talked about at the end of the Weekend programs.

Adam, thank you for sharing your memories, too.

God’s blessings and my sympathy to all who knew Tony Snow and those like me (who felt like I knew him.)

This poem helped me a great deal when my mother passed away (and was in Hospice care.)
I hope it will comfort others also.

THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker

Along the shore I spy a ship
As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.

I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she’s but a speck,
Then someone says, “She’s gone.”

Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.

Beyond the dim horizon’s rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we’re crying, “There she goes!”
They’re shouting, “Here she comes!”

We’re built to cruise for but a while
Upon this trackless sea
Until one day we sail away
Into infinity.

What a precious gift God gave us in Tony!!! He always made us feel so good, as he was such a fine example of husband, daddy and friend. I remember so vividly, back during the 2000 Florida Recount, how he anchored for hours and days. One day he told us how soon this would be over, as he had promised his little daughter, he would be done soon, so the family could choose their perfect Christmas tree. That to me was a public and loving expression of the love he had for his family. Indeed a wonderful inspiration, our Tony was!!!

Comment by Teresa Marcellino

I have not found any “public” opportunity to give Tony a tribute. There is a private funeral… it just seems unfair when he touched so many minds.
When Tony had his show on Fox, I would email with questions (political) and he would always answer. Over the years, Tony always answered. Sometimes with humor and always with respect and intelligence… I learned so much from him. As famous or popular he became… he always answered my emails. And, my emails were mainly political or sometimes about his health and I loved when he spoke about the band camp he enjoyed!!!!
I will miss him.

Is there going to be any public forum for us to pay him tribute? I really hope so… but, either way, I will have a mass said for hiim and will say a special rosary.

My prayers are with his family.

Hey Adam~

Great posting on Tony. I’m so glad to be linked to your blog. I’ve always been interested in your field reporting……..especially after you called that nut-job New York Councilman a S.O.B. on live television while reporting on the riots in Venezuela.

I’m sure Tony had a smile on his face, like I did when I saw your reaction to his outrageous support of Hugo Chavez.

Tony was a Genuine American Patriot and we miss him.

Yep, Bon Jovi rocks, they are right in the category of Journey, Foreigner, Aerosmith, among others legendary bands. Are you a fan of any of those too?

I didnt know they played a concert in NYC. Did you happen to travel over there and catch it? I bet you got front row seats, not to mention meet and greet passes.

Btw,did you see that All Star Home Run Derby? It was on earlier tonight, and Josh Hamilton was on fire, hitting 28 consecutive home runs in a row. I think he should have won the trophy. I guess he just go to tired during the final round.

Thanks for that Sharing Miracles tribute blog. Is it yours?

Awesome poem. Thanks for sharing it. I am glad it helped you get through your grieving process. If you ever need any advice, just let me know, and i will try and help you anyway i can. Take Care.

Teresa-

You can send your tribute emails and videos to Bill OReilly’s show email address, because he said he would forward all of them to Tony’s family.

Another good way to pay your respects would be to make a youtube video. Just a suggestion.

Margaret-

FNC is glad to have another loyal viewer, and be sure to spread the word about the number one cable news network.

James-

Please show Tony Snow some respect, he was a very honorable man, just like Tim Russert. I only wish i had the opputunity to share his hand and have a talk with him. He always seemed really kind of sincere, a person where you could share you problems with.

Alot of the liberal bloggers are saying nasty stuff about him, some of it were even mentioned on Bill OReilly’s talking points bulletin. I am shocked that some people have absolutely no care for a human being who has passed away.

I expect in the future the family will set up some type of foundation to donate to. I don’t know that to be a certain thing. But a family that I knew had such an outcry for people wanting to honor their son they set up a foundation scholarship to honor the wishes of people.

If Tony’s family wants to, it will be a way for people to contribute. Which is a nice way to remember those we loved so much.

Thinking of The Snow Family today…
a song that is very dear to us

Ships of Heaven…by Blackhawk

Don’t cry for me when I’m gone
Keep the faith and be strong
‘Cause through it all I’ve been blessed
I faced my fears
And I’ve passed the test
So when you look up in the sky
On a sunny day
Imagine me drifting away

I’ll be sailing on the ships of heaven
When the tide rolls out for the Last time
You’ll find me sailing on the ships of heaven
Waiting for the day
I come sailing back to you

Remember all the times we had
Some were great and some were sad
But you know that in the end
Our love was stronger then when we began
No unforgiven sins and no regrets
Just the times of our lives that we’ll
Never Forget

I’ll be sailing on the ships of heaven
When the tide rolls out for the Last time
You’ll find me sailing on the ships of heaven
Waiting for the day
I come sailing back to you

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your memory of Tony Snow. His death has really hit me hard. I didn’t know him at all and envy your connection to him. I always loved Tony’s thoughts after Fox News Sunday. I liked him in every aspect of his tv or radio time. When I grew to love him was when he answered an email “I” sent to him. Even “me”! I was shocked. I had emailed many hosts of many shows on fnc about a commercial shown that said God’s name in vain. I was upset that it wasn’t edited out. He answered right away. He didn’t like it either and told me he would check it out. I never saw it again and I am a huge fox fan! Tony answered me……amazing. I can’t express what that meant to me. He was a GREAT man! I will miss him so much. I can only imagine what you and others that actually sat in a room with him or knew him, etc., must be feeling. I send my deepest and most sincere sympathy to you all and especially to his family.

What do you guys about the low carb diet? It seems like its most efficient and healthiest way to lose weight during these grueling times on our society?

—————–

Also what are your thoughts on the fact that all of the liberal smear machine newtork is going to follow their star candidate, BHO, on a trip to Iraq? Can you say preferential treatment to their star candidate? Its just like how Steve explained it this morning, those other liberal network are just like a infomerical for BHO. Its sickening when you think about it.

Susan: no, they had an NFL game there, but it was $180 for bad seats, yuck.

Brad: i like it, good for muscle building too. Plus when i have a lot of carbs i tend to feel ill

Comment by Susan--AZ

Brad–

I care for a diabetic and I have to watch his carbs as you know, carbs turn into sugar– so we have the low carb diet here for the most part– when I use more insulin on him is usually when he has had too many carbs– Pizza is great example– he loves pizza so it is a treat!

And thanks for the nice compliments– that cat is LDG! LOL

Comment by Susan--AZ

According to the “standard” recommendations of the American Diabetes Association, people should consume about 50-60% of their daily caloric intake as carbohydrates. Except for fiber, which Americans get too little of, all carbohydrates turn directly into sugar (glucose) in the bloodstream. So, in effect, to determine how much sugar you consume, just look at the “Total Carbohydrates” entry on the nutritional label found on most store-bought foods. You can see that many items labeled as “sugar free” really aren’t.

Most people consume between 2000 and 2500 calories per day. So if you get 60% of those calories from carbohydrates, whether they contain actual sugar or not, you are putting more than 3/4 pound of sugar into your bloodstream daily.

Comment by Brad

Susan-

I remember when the creator of the original low carb diet, Dr Atkins passed away from a freak accident, he wasnt that healthy, reports are that he had almost total blockage in his arteries, and was overweight and had a high blood pressure, among other things.

That is way people were questioning if his famous diet really works.

What do you think about people who decide to become vegetarian? I have tried it once, but the food selection was so dull and uninteresting that i finally stopped.

I do know that the most common complaint from vegetarians is that they always feel tired, because they dont get the proper nutrients and vitamins.

I usually tend to eat mostly stir fried veggies, with fish like salmon, because those have omega 3 fatty acids that help with heart function. I still eat meat, but only occasionally. I usually only eat chicken breast, and lean steak. I try to avoid red meat.

Pizza usually gives me a heartburn, but i sometimes eat the California Pizza Kitchen ones. Those are delicious, have you tried it?

It must be tough taking care of a diabetic, but i am sure a kind hearted and caring person like you will do just fine.

And thanks for the news about daily intake for diabetics.

Comment by Brad

Hey Max-

What do you think about the problems happening with GB Packers quarterback Bret Favre wanting a unconditional release? It was on Greta the last several nights if you were watching.

I hope it isnt diabetes that is making you feel ill. Have you seen the show on FIT TV called Blaine’s Low Carb Kitchen?

Comment by Susan--AZ

Brad–

well there are the good carbs and then those bad ones– important to have fiber in the diet for a diabetic– it slows down the blood sugar– I have learned a lot about diabetes as my objective is to keep this person alive with all organs intact! As diabetes is a killer in more than one way– it affects every part of the body– I make sure he sees all his doctors without skipping one appt– today is the opthalmologist-

Daughter is a vegan– I can handle the vegetarian diet as I like mexican food– and I could easily survive on cheese enchiladas, chile rellenos, bean burritos, and lots of salsa– but vegan never– I love my cheese! So when she is here, we try different vegan places or foods– actually, there is quite a variety of good stuff out there which is fun to eat!

Here is trivia-Adelle Davis, was an American pioneer in the fledgling field of nutrition during the mid-20th century. She advocated whole unprocessed foods, criticized food additives, and claimed that dietary supplements and other nutrients play a dominant role maintaining health, preventing disease, and restoring health after the onset of disease….

She died of cancer of the stomach– 1974– and her thoughts about nutrition have been a major discussion!

Of course when my dad said he was ready to test my blood suger was shortly after i’d eatten some candy, so that would have moved it up a bit. I think it’s the bulkyness of carbs that doesn’t suit me. I like German foods, they are very high in callories, so i can get all the callories i need but with a lot less bulk, so i feel good afterwards.

I love red meat. If you want Omega 3 get some grass fed beef steak, it’s supposed to have far higher levels of Omgea 3 than even alaskan salmon. Plus a lot less fat.

Wow, thanks for the nutrition lesson :)

You could give lectures on the subject, and help a lot of people with their lives.

I dont think i could ever be a vegan. Its a huge responsibility, and it takes courage and effort to be successful. Plus i dont know if i can stand not eating fish.

Plus a lot of the menu choices for a vegan are very highly seasoned, and contain a ton of spices and seasonings. ]

Alot of times, those will give me an upset stomach and heartburn, as well as most tomato products.

I really like Mexican food also, as well as Chinese food. But i heard ones we are familiar with, arent the same authentic dishes you may find overseas. Its that true?

I have never heard of Adelle Davis, it looks like her research is still have promenent affects in this modern day and age.

By any chance seen those Making Healthy Choices program on the LeSea Religious network? They sell all these mineral products that are supposedly an alternative way of keeping healthy.

But did you know the founder, Maureen Kenndy Salaman, died a couple of years ago from colon cancer, and they claimed she was all a fake, and was endorsing a product that doesnt work.

It you google her name, you will know what i am talking about.

Max–

I am always poking my finger too and my blood sugar goes up a bit after I eat– so you are safe!

Brad–

I use to be too concerned with nutrition to the point where people wanted to deck me because I would be preaching– and now I am being punished because my daughter is on that kick! I just listen and smile! But I want to tell her to chill! LOL

But I am a freak about diabetes!! I have a life here which depends on my control– if I mess up, I could cause great damage! His eyes are good– (today’s visit to the opthalmologist) Dr. McPhee– from John Hopkins- He was a doctor there and specialized in diabetes– I lucked out to have found him!

And thanks for the heads up on Maureen– will check her out!

Hey everyone-

Did anyone happen to see this on Fox and Friends yesterday morning? A woman in ME found a 8 foot python snake in her washing machine.

Here is the link:

Any thoughts?

Also check this article out. Its from the weekly standard, about Phil Gramm Resignation from John McCain’s Campaign. I guess he doesnt want to give the liberals a reason to bash McCain.

How about Bison Steak? I saw it on a commercial once, and i heard its low fat, and contains a lot of iron.

I would also recommend trying canned salmon. Those tend to be quite oily, but are a lot more healthier than the fresh kind. Plus you can eat the bones, with contain a ton of nutrients.

I am glad you are taking care of health, because diabetes can be a hereditary thing. I think that old time character actor i mentioned that supports McCain, Wilford Brimley, is also a diabetic, because he is endorsing commercials for Liberty Medical Supply, which sells diabetic testing equipment.

I havent tried any German foods before, what are some good dishes?

I like to pasta, that is one of my favorite foods, but i usually go for the low carb version. You should try it also, because it has the same taste and texture as regular pasta, but without all the starch.

Take Care.

Susan: Yeah, it was actually the same as my dad’s at the time, despite his not having just ate any suger.

Brad: Bison isn’t too much different from grass fed beef. It’s mostly what they are fed. It’s the same with fish, farm fed fish tend to have the “bad” fats in high amounts, while wild have lots of the “good” fats. It’s best when creatures eat what they were designed to eat.

Well i’m sure you’ve had hamburgers and frankfurters before. You’ve also got ones like bratwurst, chicken fried steak, potatoe salad, saurkraut, mettwurst (cured raw pork spread, tastes like cavaiar), lots of various liver patties, pumpernickle bread, loads of dumplings, and many more. I like the german version of spagetti, but i can’t take the italian kind. The german one is less densly pressed, so it fills you up faster, but isn’t as heavy.

any thoughts about the python in the washing machine? You would need to talk to my cardiologist after me having a heart attack!

I saw the advertisement for the Bison meat– they were selling it– same one?

Yep, that was the one i was talking about. Its usually FNC during the late night hours, when Red Eye is being shown. Its just like that joint and spray ad i mentioned to you about.

They also sell the Bison Steaks on the QVC channel. Do you happen to watch that? That host Lisa Robertson should come work for FNC, she would be good addition to the growing team.

Have you also seen that commericial where you can send in for a free pamphlet called “to the writer in search for a publisher”. That ad looks like it was taped at 20 years ago. I wonder why they are still showing it.

If you havent seen it yet, look for it when you are watching FNC late nights.

It seems like the number of people finding either a python snake or an animal roaming in your house is pretty common, depending where you live. If you check Janices blog, a blogger there many Deb came across a similar situation, and she is still terrified.

If ever that happens to you, i hope you will be strong and deal it the situation in a calm manner. I wouldnt want you have a heart attack or passout. Just quickly get away from your house and call for help.

Max-

I dont know how the german spaghetti tastes like, i have only ate the italian one, but i cant eat it too often, because its really acidity, because of the tomato sauce, and i usually get a major heartburn afterwards. The same goes with cheese and dairy products. That is why i eat those in moderation.

I have tried hamburgers, but not frankfurters(does hot dogs count). Chicken Fried Steak is a common microwavable dish. I absolutely love potato salad. I have tried liverwurst a long time ago, but its really disgusting.

I think eating too much caviar, or even brie cheese, can cause you gout, which is a serious condition when too much fluid goes to your knees and joints.

Here is some info on Bison Steak, also some recipes, if you are interested:

Hot dogs count.
I’ve never had a microwaved chicken fried steak, never seen one for sale, i make mine myself. I never have tomatoe sauce, normally i won’t have a sauce, but if i do it’ll be a gravy. German spatzle is a lot less dense than italian spaghetti, so it’s traditionally eatten with gravy, since it soaks it up. Since i make gravy with my chicken fried steak i’ll normally have spatzle with it.

I think i might have gone to that site before, at least one like it. I’d like to try buffalo, but the only place i’ve seen it for sale doesn’t store their meat properly, so i can’t buy from there. I just have to wait till i find somewhere nice that sells it.

Have you ever seen the Nutri System ads on FNC? All of those meals are shipped to your doorstep. You can easily say that they arent properly refrigerated, but its good to check it out and be safe, especially with all the bacteria and samonella cases with tomatoes, vegetables, and meat. Those things seem to be happening more often and frequently.

You should try and turkey hot dogs from Healthy Choice, they are much leaner, and have the same taste as the regular ones.

A lot of microwavable tv dinners have chicken fried steak as the entree, i dont know if you have Marie Callanders where you live n the UK, but you definately should check it out.

Comment by Max Kon

Brad: Nutri System isn’t available in the UK, and i love cooking. So i have a range of dishes of varying cooking times depending on how busy i am, though i also have some cold meats for the end of a long or busy day. I wish I could spend longer each day cooking, but sometimes life comes in the way. I’ve also never seen chicken fried steak in the UK outside of my house, it’s not really a popular dish here. Though in Austria you can get them on almost every street in the center of cities.

I’ve had turkey hotdogs before, my friend’s mother made them up when i was visiting him a while back, I was very surprised by the taste. Then again i can tell the difference between hotdogs made with different parts of a pig, so maybe i’m a little hard to please in that regard. ;)

Sadly no Marie Callander’s here :(

Its great that you can cook your own meals and dishes. I can also, and its a whole lot better than going out to a resturant, where the salt and fat content is way over the top. You can also control the ingredients, so that is yet another good thing.

A lot of famous people have come out and endorsed the Nutri System products from famous football players like Dan Marino, to comedians like Larry the Cable guy. I am sure you saw the commericials on FNC.

By any chance tried jambalaya? Its a rice dishes with okra, tomatoes, bell peppers, sometimes seafood, and other ingredients. Its great hearty dish, but you dont mind it being too spicy and peppery.

That is mostly why is prefer the turkey hot dogs, rather than the original ones, but i dont like to eat too much meat or chicken. I usually stay with the free range ones, and eat mostly organic farm fresh types.

You should also try those Morningstar Farms veggie hot dogs and sausage, its made with 100 percent vegetable ingedients, so its really good for you health. And you can even tell the difference.

I guess its all about compassion about animals, that is why a lot of people decide to go vegetarian these days.

Comment by Max Kon

Brad: I watch fox online, so i get different ads.

I’ve had jambalaya before, but not this year, i normally only eat spicey foods when it’s hot, and this year it’s yet to be hot, so not had much spicey yet.

I like pork and beef a lot, so i have them quite often. I don’t think i could ever be a vegetarian. I’m interested in studying meat science at university, when i go for a visit i will have to discuss what jobs it would open up for me, and see if it is what i want.

I didnt know you can watch FNC on your computer. Is it available on this site? I also heard that FNC is going to come out in HD fairly soon. Do you have any info on when that will be?

I dont know, it seems like vegetarian entree are always highly seasoned or contain a lot of spices. I guess its to give it taste, because there is no meat in them.

I know the most common complaint in people that make the choice to go vegetarian, is that they feel lethargic and tired all the time, probably because they arent getting the proper nutrients.

Maybe you can experiment, and become a semi vegetarian. Try it for a week, and see the difference :)

Good luck on your meat studies. Maybe you should also consider studying Food Technologies, if its available at your school.

Brad: http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html can see it right here. I know the change was meant to be sometime this summer, but i don’t know exactly when.
I’ve tried not eatting meat before, didn’t do too well. I used to be quite anemic when i didn’t eat red meat, and that wasn’t good at all.

The course is meat science & food technology, so i have to both.

Thanks for the link. I think that is just certain videos from FNC shows, and it isnt the simulcast of the news channel, so i guess you arent getting the full experience, but its a start :)

According to wikipedia, it mentioned something about FNC coming out in HD sometime this summer.
