Endurance Island

Tom Jones is at it again. You might remember that I featured Tom and his paddle down the state of California on this blog and on ‘Fox and Friends’. He went at it in some of the most treacherous waters in the world. Well, the man intent on pushing himself and us to change, has jumped head first (literally) into another challenge that pushes him the very brink of exhaustion. So to give you a rundown, Tom will endure 3 full loops around the island of Oahu by running, bicycling, and finally paddling, to raise money and public awareness about the enormous amount of plastic in the ocean. According to his website, he is “An athlete who puts the ‘extreme’ in extreme athletics, among Tom’s accomplishments to bring attention to various causes; he has run 120 marathons in 120 consecutive days, has run the length of California 3 times at a marathons pace, and has traversed 1,250 miles along the entire coast of California on a stand up paddle board.”

I spoke with Tom by phone on Wednesday and he is doing well, but a bit sore. Will he finish?! Common, you may have not met Tom in person, but I can assure you it would take a whale grabbing him from behind and dragging him to Alaska….and that would only delay the end to this challenge. He’d still find a way! If you want to follow along or get involved, check out his website and live blog.  ENDURANCE ISLAND

Thanks for the link to Tom’s site.
The man has “olympic” stamina!

Adam ~ Thanks for the update on Tom! Wow…I lived in Honolulu for about a year and a half and I am looking forward to keeping up with his adventure…

That man is incredible–

When you talk to him again, could you do a plug? Ask him to do this at Bahía de Banderas in Guayabitos– and I will give him a couple bungalows! Awareness is needed there to educate the gente popular as to how to keep the environment clean!

What annoys me too is if one goes to check the sites about this area, they show these beautiful beaches- ha! The pictures were probably taken:

Guayabitos was a fishing village that became known in 1971 when President Luis Echeverría Alvarez proposed that the area from Nuevo Vallarta to the beach of Platanillos be included in The Fidiecomiso Bahia de Banderas.

We need a few thousand of Tom Jones to station them on all the polluted beaches!

And BTW, Adam, thank you– if you know what I mean!

I’m worn out just from reading about all his exploits. Amazing.

Tom kind of reminds me of Michael Phelps, who won his 10th, 11th golds of Olympic career! I guess that makes him the winningest Olympian ever.

Two bungalows– guaranteed! What the heck! I will throw in another one!

Creed: You help me and I will help you!

Thanks Terri!

Also…thanks again to everyone for all of the well wishes. AND…I thought I had made the point earlier, but I did not. I have mentioned it to a ton of people…..the Poem by Jen in the album was fantastic!! Thanks again guys and thanks for hanging with the blog during these turbulent times. We will get it right, promise. I have a new post, so check it out!

Adam

Adam: You have been working on this now for over two months!

How do YOU distinguish turbulent from patience?

Turbulent: chaotic and restless: marked by disturbances, changes, and unrest….

Yes- We are all riding on the turbulent times! Each and everyone of us have turbulent times.

Now fix your blog or shut the heck up!

Your very underpaid Personal Assistant who doesn’t want excuses anymore! LOL

I dare you to post this!

Susan-

Seriously….you dare me?! :) Common…I have never not posted something. Wait, I did delete one comment a long time ago because it was sick and very racist. Other than that, everything I have seen makes it. Also, as for patience , unfortunately it is out of my control. But I do have input and a new idea that I will get to you guys soon.

Adam
Because of you reporting about Tom Jones several months ago, I bought my own reusable shopping bags. It’s not a lot, but every little bit can help I guess; just trying to do my part.
And my grocery store gives me a nickle for every one of my own bags I use.
Maybe one day I will have enough nickles clean up all this mess! :)

Hey everybody–hope you are all doing well and swell.

BTW– By the time you get this blog fixed, I will probably be in a wheelchair– but on the flip side, Ken can wheel me to the computer!

Terri–

You are an awesome mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Georgian Soldiers Fired on Fox News Crew

News Channel correspondent Steve Harrigan and his crew found themselves fired upon today while covering the situation in Georgia. Harrigan reports, while running away from the gunfire and his cameraman still rolling, that Georgian irregular troops in Gori were firing their pistols at foreign journalists.

@Brad

re: yours of 17 Aug, 4:04 am

day late and a dollar short there, friend. That report is almost 2 days old, and the identity of the irregulars (specifically the fat man pistol-shooter) is highly in doubt… But the Russians standing near by did nothing, and Mal James ID’d him as Ossetian (which might be Georgian nationality, more likely not).

Here’s an interview S. Harrigan gave to the Miami Herald about that incident:

The shooting Harrigan had to flee Friday wasn’t political, but an apparent robbery attempt by “a great big fat guy with a giant pistol in his hand,” precise affiliation unknown.

Comment by K2

Brad, I saw Steve’s report…..Interesting how Russia says it is pulling back, but the reporters are seeing differently. No surprise – Russia and the truth don’t really compute.

Did you catch the Saddleback Civil Forum on Presidency last night?

Comment by socalsurfer

anyoine watch that fox news special,”Russia, the angry giant”? pretty interesting. The pres of Estonia talks about the things that russia does to attack foriegners and neighboring countries by using propaganda and anti social tactics that the NAZI’s used prior to WW2. Like using young persons groups like “Our Russia” to harrass people and groups. pretty scary.

Comment by Susan--AZ

that Harrigan story was a few days ago– and it turned out to be some loco–

Did anyone happen to hear about how Red Bull and some of those other energy drinks can cause heart failure and other health problems. It was talked about on F&F last week. Its kind of shocking, i personally dont drink those, but i know a lot of people who do. Its really scary when you come and think about it.

———————-

Plus days of heavy rains around the Grand Canyon created flooding that breached an earthen dam Sunday and forced helicopters to pluck scores of residents and campers from the gorge. No injuries were immediately reported.

Endurance Island sounds like a lot of fun!
Jen S: that’s cool they give you a nickel, here they either charge you 30cent for a really weak bag, or only give you ‘loyalty’ points.

Comment by FL Sunshine

Adam – saw you in AZ covering the break of a dam in the Grand Canyon. wow!

better be on the look out! Susan knows you’re in her state! :-) (wink, wink – Susan)

Comment by Susan--AZ

socal–

Yes, I did see the news special– the angry giant-

what about what they do to journalists in Russia who oppose them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the youth group–Nashi’s

The Nashi camps, I believe, were first introduced in 2005– I was reading a bit about them last night after I heard about them on the news special–

Here– I just went on the internet-

Life at the camp is strikingly reminiscent of the Soviet era — youngsters call each other “comrade” and cartoons hung between pine trees portray Soviet heroes fighting capitalists, fascists, and American politicians.

According to what I read– by 2007, there are now 120,000 members- In 2005, there were 3,000.

Comment by Adam Housley

Everyone-

As you now likely know, I was absent Sunday and part of today because they sent us to cover the dam break. I have a new post on it up now.

FNC’s Alicia Acuna Talks Denver, Security and More

FNC correspondent Alicia Acuna is covering the Denver Democratic Convention from a whole different angle — as an 11-year resident of Denver. This afternoon we talked to Acuna at the FOX Experience, right on the set that had previously been used by Neil Cavuto for his FBN show (more on that later).

The interview touches on the strict security measures taken for the convention, Acuna’s beat at the DNCC, and many other issues:
