Gov. Palin: Fact and Fiction

There is somewhat of a feeding frenzy happening in Alaska right now as reporters and political operatives try to learn as much as possible about Governor Sarah Palin.

There seems to be a new rumor every time you turn around thanks to the left-leaning blogs. First they went after Sarah Palin’s family and now it’s her faith. Palin has described herself as a born again Christian Conservative. She was baptized Catholic as an infant. But her mother became involved in the Wasilla Assembly of God church and at the age of 13 Sarah was baptized in that church. It’s denomination is Pentacostal.

One of the pastors at the Wasilla Assembly of God has made controversial statements in the past. Ed Kalnins once preached that Alaska’s natural resource wealth will fulfill the state’s destiny of serving as a shelter for Christians at the end of the world. A staunch supporter of the Iraq war, Kalnins has described it as a battle for the very survival of Christianity. And in 2004 Kalnins told followers he questioned whether people who voted for Senator John Kerry could receive salvation. He has since apologized for the comment saying it was a poor attempt at humor. Nonetheless, many Obama supporters are trying to link Governor Palin to these and other fringe comments.

What I’ve been able to learn here in Alaska is that Palin’s faith is not easily pinned down. She left the Wasilla Assembly of God church in 2002 when she ran for Lt. Governor. She moved over to the non-denominational Wasilla Bible Church. Pastor Larry Kroon describes Palin as a very positive member of Alaska’s Christian Community, but he does not claim to be her spiritual advisor. He tells me Palin also attends services at the Church of the Rock in Wasilla and another Christian church in Juneau.

Kroon supports a conference sponsored by Focus on the Family aimed at converting gays to heterosexuals. The conference is being held in Anchorage, not his church, but he does support the concept. He does believe prayer can “heal” homosexuals.

The blogs are also on fire with reports that when Palin was mayor of Wasilla she banned a number of books from the city’s library. The McCain camp has hit back saying Palin did no such thing. Here are the facts as far as I can tell. When Palin took over as mayor, she did ask the librarian what she would do if someone wanted to have some books removed. The librarian balked and said she did not support censorship I any form. A few months later, Palin sent the librarian a letter she was being fired. It did not say why. There was public support for the librarian and Palin reversed her decision.

The blogs are reporting that Palin banned several books including Harry Potter. The only problem…The first Harry Potter book came out in 1998, 2 years AFTER Palin supposedly had it pulled off the shelf. The McCain camp says Palin was simply inquiring what the librarian’s policy is if someone wants a book removed. Palin has said she was going to fire the librarian because she wanted only people in her administration who supported her. The librarian had backed Palin’s opponent.

The whole story goes to the mad dash to pin down Palin and her beliefs. The bottom line I’m getting from Alaskans is that palin does not wear her religion on her sleeve. She has said she supports teaching intelligent design in the public schools, but she has not tried to change policy to allow for it. She opposes gay marriage, but after the Supreme Court upheld a bill giving benefits to same sex couples.

Palin has not said anything about her faith on the campaign trail and the McCain camp is definitely downplaying any out of the mainstream beliefs she may hold.

I can’t believe that women are truly falling for such garbage! McCain could have picked a woman who is qualified and competent out of hundreds who are available in politics but instead he picked one who is totally the opposite. He wasn’t looking for a vice president who would be able to challenge him on issues, better America, or even offer women a chance of progress. Instead he picked a woman and I mean any woman, and that should be an insult to the American people. He obviously gave no thought or concern to her contributions to his campain. I think he needed a woman to get womens votes an picked one who wouldn’t offer him any challenge and who would let him be the man of the house! Women of America need to think about that and think of how many other qualified women he could have chosen. I think the women who were for Hillary wanted a woman who had Hillarys values etc. , not just any woman!! Give them more credit than that.

First – We pause to remember those lost 9/11. May God continue to bless those families and give them continued strenght.

Sensationalism sells – left or right. One thing for sure… Obama talked CHANGE but… McCain has made CHANGE a reality with Palin. Now, McCain owns the word – Barry better get out his Miriam-Webster and look up a new one. One “zinger of a campaign” now for sure! Go Republicans. You’ve won my vote!

Whenever the political parties began narrowing down the selections , I was very discouraged with McCain and never even gave Hillary Clinton or Obama a second thought. Now, that McCain has put Sarah Palin as his VP, I am renewed with hope and excitement for my Republician party.
Gov. Palin brings the real element of the majority of Americans. She is a mother, conservative, a fighter and and Christian. This is where most of us live.
It is difficult to relate to men who are blessed with fortune, or have a long history of political background, only to be ignorant of the middle class Americans who are working and fighting daily to raise up a generation of children to respect and love the freedoms that are so commonly taken for granted.
We are a nation of values and our forefathers fought to continue the freedom for those values. Now, we have Hollywood and Liberals coming to our televisions, movies, sports ect. and demeaning those values and freedoms. I am looking for a fresh view and a fresh look at new leadership and I think that Sarah Palin brings that to our government.
Now, I can’t wait to vote for her and McCain.
Before Gov. Palin was on the ticket, I was doubting that I would even vote….

There is a big story of the election sitting under everyone’s noses in the media. It is Sarah Palin’s problems in the Alaska National Guard in Anchorage. There is a possibilty of corruptness and Guardsmen remain anonymous due to the geniune fear of retribution and retaliation about the higher ranking officers who are in charge. I didn’t realize that Generals could promote theirselves but apparantely Campbell has given himself another star. What did Sarah Palin do about this travesty? Nothing as far as we have heard. Campbell’s and McManus’ decision to ignore the merits of guardsmen who should be promoted and punish them for the decisios of those before them is failing. The Army Guard strength has dropped. I understand that all of this information will fall on deaf ears called a “Cover up.” Does anyone care?

I think it is time that both sides stop the sniping and get down to issues. This includes getting Palin out to the news media and talking issues.

If a campaign shelters a candidate, it looks very suspious and she needs to stop the suspicion by talking issues beyond pork barrell spending and Alaska and being available all of the media the same way the guys are. Incidentally, I am a woman.

It really does not matter what the religious practices of Sarah Palin are, they will be investigated, speculated on, hashed and rehashed by the news media, until she comes out looking like a bright shinny quarter…..I don’t know what the big deal is, if Obama’s religious preferences can be investigated, speculated on, hashed and rehashed, then I feel like whats good for the goose is good for the gander…..that’s one of those whitty saying that like the ones Obama is constantly being slammed for, strange thing about this is that while she may come out yet looking great because she is a white woman and an agent of “change”, the real change agent “Obama” has not fared as well, and questions about his religious preferences are still be asked and he is still challenged on every turn. Jeremiah Wright’s messages were not offensive to white America because of their content, they were offensive because they touched a nerve, and the truth hurts…..how dare a Black man say the things he said from the pulpit, him being a pastor and a christian……but guess what folks, some of the most horrible crimes in history have come from bible toting, scripture spewing, fire and brimstone preaching white christians…..I regret that Palin is being baptized by fire, she put herself and her family out there, and the worst is yet to come….look at our country’s political history….I have faith that she will prevail because of her race and gender…..if you don’t beleive me watch how this plays out.

Oh, it’s so easy to smear your lipstick, isn’t it? Most of the time it is an accident; however, the smearing of Sarah Palin by the Obama camp “ain’t no accident!” And it’s a smear much greater than Sarah Palin alone…it is a smear of women and women-in-power in general. Here you have an intelligent, politically savvy woman who entered the world of politics for no other reason than to contribute to the world around her, and make a difference, which she HAS.

So please, please, please, visit http://www.DontSmearTheLipstick.com and post your comments in support of Sarah Palin, or to make your feelings known that there is UNDOUBTEDLY a sexist root both in Obama’s shunning of Hillary Clinton and in the smearing of Sarah Palin. DON’T SMEAR THE LIPSTICK! :) Women know–it will leave a stain on you that is tough to get out!!!

MY CONCERN IS THAT FOX DOESN’T REALLY TRY TO FIND THE TRUTH, AND PROVE THE SAME. IF OTHER NEWS CHANNELS CAN DIG IN AND FIND THE TRUTH ON ALL THE CANDIDATES, WHY DOES FOX INSIST ON LETTING LIE AFTER LIE AFTER LIE GO OUT AS GOSPEL. YOU ONLY OPEN YOURSELVES, AND THOSE WHO WATCH YOUR SHOWS TO EXTREME CRITICISM. EVERYONE KNOWS YOU’RE REPUBLICAN, BUT, WHY CAN’T YOU ALSO BE HONEST?

Wake Up America!

McCain’s camp can not have it both ways. It’s time to see the light…..get informed people…. before you make the biggest mistake of your life.

The McCain camp played the gender card again and Obama’s camp planted that “Lipstick” remark in that way hoping for that response from the McCain campaign. The Double Standard HAS BEEN EXPOSED again!!

The McCain/Palin camp took the bait too and got caught playing the gender card again. ……….. a smart move by the Obama team and I am sure there will be many more to come. Don’t blame Obama, Mccain is the one who used that expression first. The gloves are NOW officially off.

Look at the link for Torie Clarke’s book called “Lipstick on a Pig”

Thanks for clearing all these facts for us, there are a lot of rumors and smears out there, and its nice to hear the truth for a change.

That is why you folks are the number one cable network out there.

What is really amazing is the way the liberal media is attacking Sarah Palin. They obviously cant attack her on the issues, so they have to resort to this nasty, mean spirited rubbish, questioning whether she is even qualified to do her job correctly.

I think a lot of it is sexist, but mostly is because she is a conservative. And i am sure you have heard the attacks on her youngest child, who has special needs, and even questioning if her so called neglect caused it? Its really disgusting.

Just my thoughts.

The news media, most especially Fox News, allowed the Bush administration to get us into an expensive and ill-conceived war. I would think it behooves all US voters to really question what Fox news says about anything. You all seem to be very intelligent folks but I think you are lazy. I see a lot of innuendo (ex. left leaning blogs) but little fact.

Why shouldn’t the American public know exactly what is on Sarah Palin’s mind and why aren’t you doing your job in finding out? Complaining about what others are doing to Sarah Pailin is not giving us the information to know whether or not Sarah Palin shou!ld be a heartbeat away from the President! Young man, you need to stop taking up space in life and start doing some work!

Why don’t you cover the fact the Sarah is plain lying about her selling the jet to ebay and lying about having opposed the bridge to nowhere. We were lied to at her introduction and we are being lied to in her stump speech as well. If Barack Obama had lied this poorly in his case to be president the race would be over by now.

I cannot believe all of this stuff that is being said and reported and written on Sarah Palin. What a bunch of garbage!! What is going on in this country when every single thing that ANYONE says about someone else is taken as gospel truth. At this point, everyone wants to get on the “bandwagon” with their comments, true or not, about Sarah. Let’s just see what she has to offer from this point forward and quit wasting time on digging up things about her past which may, or may not, be true. And, what difference does it make which church she attends or doesn’t attend!! That is her own personal business, as is her family. I just pray that the Holy Spirit guides Sarah and the others involved in all of this political nonsense and that we finally can get back to being a great nation of people with great values. Judge not less WE be judged!! Barb Z.

I’m glad that everyone is so engrossed in Palin’s faith. God must be proud of her. As a conservative Christian, I’m glad that God has called her to this place “for such a time as this.” I’m praying God’s will be done… and I’m hoping that for the sake of the country, the Republican ticket beats the often anti-biblical Democrat platform.

I think Gov. Palin is a great choice and seems to be a reasonable person. I saw her speak in Colorado Springs and thought she did a great job. My 13 year old daughter is interested in this campaign and I don’t think she would be if it weren’t for Sarah Palin. The left wing groups will all take pot shots at her hoping one will stick, we should all expect that. However, their attacks are just making her stronger because they cannot dent her reputation.

Comment by Will C

I find this interesting. The Obama campaign is charging in with fervor on topics readily dismissed by themselves when in question against them. It would appear that they need to read up on “The Art of War”. When one attacks at an opponent’s weakness they themselves must be sure they do not possess the same weakness. For this weakness will undermine the potency of the attack. This area has proven to be a “bad leg” in which the Dems stand on and attacking will only bring backlash to their position.

i just dont understand why would she fire a librarian simply because she backed her opponent

Comment by stephenpsykes

I wish reporters would do just a little research before writing an article. The church Sarah attended is an Assembly of God church. The demomination IS NOT pentacostal. They are
pentacostal in some doctrine but that is not the “denomination.” The Assemblies of God is the largest spirit-filled organization in the world. They do not call themselve a denomination but an assembly of believers. HQ is in Springfield, MO.

Fact or fiction? Why not focus on the substanative questions of the day? Did she abuse per diems? Did she receive federal ear marked monies contrary to what she indicates in her recent speeches? Please–some real analysis would help here.

My, my challenge a known Christian’s faith, whether it be Catholic, Protestant or what,,,, but don’t pry into the “might be” Muslin, or might be black power Christian,, hmm – double standard again? If so, the white might loose to the black because white is supposed to feel guilty about what was historically correct at the time, changed by whites when determined to not be correct, and now whites owe it to those who never rose above their own deficiencies?

Wake up America, we don’t need a bible thumping administration, just one who believes in what is good for the country, the country as the millions of individuals,

Every God fearing person in Ohio is praying for you and your family Sarah!
And in case any one is trying to pin it down, we are praying for you in the name of the “Father”, The “Son”, And “The Holy Spirit”.
Let God be true, and every man a liar.

How is judging her pastor’s agenda different from judging Obama’s former Pastor’s Agenda? I personally believe that both should be off limits in judging their leadership roles, however, if one receives air time may the other nutjob receive air time aswell.

If Sarah Palin didn’t make comments about global warming being “God’s plan” as well as the Iraq war…nobody would really care about her religion.

The worry is that she can’t separate her religion from her politics.

Lie #1 The truth is she says and John McCain says sarah killed the bridge to nowhere. the fact is she supported it until it became an embarrassement to her and the state. This lie is now part of a McCain/ Palin ad!
Lie #2 I sold the governor’s jet on e-bay, which John McCain also stated. It did not sell on e-bay.
Lie #3 McCain stated she sold it for a profit to the state! It was sold at a loss through an agency!
The republicans seem to be following the Nazi philosophy that stated, “You can get by easier telling the people a big lie rather than a little lie. This I think is the rove doctrine along with bush, cheney, libby, ambramof, gonzalesand now McCain/Palin.

Get serious. First of all, there are exagerrations being made by both sides against one another. One side slings some mud and the other side turns around and does the same. You sling mud you are going to get it right back. How about Palin’s comment about Obama parting the waters and saving the nation in her speech at the convention. You do not think that was caustic? Palin came out swinging against Obama in her convention speech and continues to do so in her campaign speeches so what does the RNC expect? For heavens sake it is politics. Get over it.

However, it is a bit odd that the Palin can sling caustic comments about Obama and yet when the shoe is on the other foot the RNC cries sexist or Palin is being scrutinized unlike any man would be in this situation. Excuse me? She should be scrutinized just like any new comer should be especially when we know so little about her views. She could very well end up President if McCain gets in so we should know everything about her views, where she stands on issues and if there is anything about her views that could adversely effect this country. Well, quit protecting her and put her out there to defend herself like any other nominee in this election and past elections. Palin described herself as a hockey mom and hockey mom’s are like a pitbull but with lipstick. She should be able to handle herself so let her and quit whinning foul.

Sarah Palin is part of the mainstream of America. Media pundits and political analysts are foreign to the average American. Sarah Palin is our neighbor and our friend. It’s “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” all over again. You can analyze it till you’re blue in the face, but it’s a common sense approach to politics, an approach that is so rare as to be almost nonexistent in the world of media.

Why did she sit quietly in her church while a speaker said Israeli Jews suffer terrorist attacks because they don’t accept Jesus? Why didn’t she denounce that at the time, before she was the VP pick?

The investigation on Palin’s “Troopergate” is a kangeroo court. THE FIX IS IN. The chief investigator (before any investigating or supeonas are conducted) has stated it to be an “October surprise” , “damaging” and even through out the word “impeachment”!!!!

The media is going to go nuts and Palin is going to get smeared.

I’d also heard on Fox news that the top three Troopergate investigators were spotted at Alaska Obama headquarter in July (coincidence??? hmmmmmm).

Will McCain fight this? Will Sarah get tough and fight this tooth-n-nail? This is her first big test.

Comment by Kris B

Why not confront the more serious issues surrounding Palin?

1 – Her billing of 312 days of per diem, based on her staying at her own home in Wasilla.

2 – The fact that even in 2006, she supported The Bridge to Nowhere. Then, when pressured to cancel it, she went along (did NOT lead that charge). Most of the money, however, stayed in Alaska — so big deal.

3 – John McCain claimed that Palin “sold the jet on eBay and made a profit!”.

4 – Palin’s response to the Eagle Forum, when asked if she would be offended by tje words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, was “…if it was good enough for the Founding Fathers, it’s good enough for me”. (Sorry, Mrs Palin, but the Pledge wasn’t even written until 1894, wasn’t even adopted until years later, and the words “under God” were added in 1954.) I’m sorry, but that’s such a BASIC part of fourth-grade civics class, why would she not know that?

CNN reported Palin now attends the Wasilla Bible Church. She was there on August 17, just days before entering the national spotlight. David Brickner, the founder of Jews for Jesus, was a speaker. He told congregants that terrorist attacks on Israel were God’s “judgment” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity

I find it hard to believe that anyone in this country can justify terrorist attacks through relegion.

Comment by Jim, Dallas, TX

I don’t buy it that Gov. Palin, when Mayor, was simply asking the librarian what the policy was for someone wanting to censor books. And it’s appalling that she would fire the librarian because the librarian hadn’t supported her campaign for mayor. That strikes me as putting her own political agenda ahead of the needs of her town’s residents, not to mention petty and vindictive .

Comment by Howard Watson Argue

My comment is: What would the liberal bloggers know about Christianity anyway?

I just find it interesting how people have an issue with those who link Governor Palin to her pastor and his controversial remarks, yet had no problem doing so with Senator Obama and Pastor Wright. I mean I understand this is politics and its a game to many, but this blatant hypocrisy is outrageous.

I really am surprised that there is anyone who would want to run for public office, with those who will do everything possible to dig up anything that they can find that might be questionable. It would be nice to turn the tables on these Democrat operatives who are sweeping all over looking for things. How about they let investigators look at their life with a microscope, and post EVERYTHING on the internet, even those things that are totally untrue, or are distorted?
The funny thing is that the more these things happen, the more people support Sarah Palin. I guess we could say to the smear agents “Keep it up!”

Comment by Alche

Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin’s hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. The first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29.

As a smart voter, here’s what you have to look out for: If they find something real and substantial they will release it as soon as they find out and can prove it is true. If all this army can come up with is “he-said”/”she-said” allegations or out-right fabrications and lies, expect them to come out with them about a week to a just a few days before the election. Releasing the lies and distortions on short notice makes it very hard to counter them and prove them false. Therefore…. Do NOT believe anything derogatory released within one week of the election because it is almost assuredly the latter. Don’t let them play you for a fool… use your brain instead.

Comment by Dave K

Let’s face it. It’s gonna take a whole lot of nit-picking to come up with some dust (as opposed to dirt) on Sarah Palin. She is every American wife, mother, business woman and career woman and that bugs the heck out of all the phonies out there.

Comment by Marilyn ARledge

When you don’t know much about Christianity perhaps you should not write about it. Lots of mainline denominational Christians believe like the Assembly of God in many ways. Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, etc. all have spirit filled believres. I am a Presbyterian who is spirit filled. The Assembly of God has been a denomination in our nation for many years, a denomination that I appreciate and honor. With all the talk about freedom of religion, it does not seem to be available to political candidates. Why is that? What is it about the media that they think they can judge things they know little about?

Comment by DM

So this fact and fiction may be well served if it were to look into the real issues of Palin fact and fiction. i.e. her support of the “Bridge to Nowwhere” prior to its political demise and insistence that she did no support it, her use of a paid lobbyist to get pork projects for Wasilla (how many towns of 6-7,000 can claim that), etc…

I think its good some of the media is trying to find and post the truth whatever it is…I think all the candidates faith should be know but not over thier lifetime only what they have belived in in the few years before entering the presidential race. What they say they belive in now could be just what would get a vote so I don’t put much faith in that…..If they want to scrutinize her faith during her early years maybe we need to get back to Obama’s Muslim days with his father.

Comment by Scott

Fair and balanced? hmmmmmm
Where was the article debunking all the myths that were floating around (from the right and Fox) about Obama????

Comment by Juan Jaramillo

I understand that there are a lot of people with free time and tons of imagination to come up with ridiculous stories about her and pretty much any politician on the internet age, but there was a phrase from the writer that kept me thinking. I have a problem with the part about “Palin has said she was going to fire the librarian because she wanted only people in her administration who supported her”. I am not totally sure that I want somebody that runs government with people that support you. I prefer to work with the best people available in each field with a certain amount of political leeway (I understand that there is a need for political apointees). I don’t think that a city librarian is a political apointee and her explanation regarding only supporters on her administration is not what I am looking for.

Comment by Debbie

If anyone questions Palin’s pastor let’s not forget Obama’s pastor took the Lord’s name in vain from the pulpit and more!

Comment by VM

Palin’s pastors say that the War in Iraq is a Holy War. Palin’s pastors say that Alaska will be a safe-haven for Christians come the end of the world. The media just dismisses all of this, saying that she hasn’t expressed these opinions on the campaign trail, so we shouldn’t even bother with it.

Have all of you forgotten what happened months ago? Obama’s ex-pastor said controversial things that were, in my opinion, much less offensive than these (especially when taken in context). Obama, just like Palin, never once expressed these opinions, during or before his campaign trail. The media ran up and down the aisles screaming this story for weeks until Obama had to put a stop to it – and even now, people talk still about it.

So much for fair journalism.

Comment by Marsha Van Amburgh

Dan,

I’m sure that you are a very nice person, but you need to fire whomever edits your work. There are so many mistakes in this piece that it is shameful. Comments like, “Here are the facts as far as I can tell. . .” Why don’t you wait until you know the truth before you write about something. After reading this piece, I found myself thinking what actual contribution did it make? I didn’t know anything more about Sarah Palin, as far as her qualifications as a leader than I did before reading it. There was nothing substantive in it at all, only supposition and inuendo. Don’t we get enough of that from the media?

How can McCain say that change is coming and claims that himself and Palin with fight agaiinst lobbysts when (1) Palin was paying Lobbysts to get money for Alaska including the money for the very bridge to nowhere, (2) McCain has seven lobbysts in his Campaign.

• One: Campaign manager Rick Davis is a major telecommunications lobbyist.
• Two: Senior foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann recently faced scrutiny over his foreign lobbying on behalf of the Republic of Georgia, which has been embroiled in a military conflict with Russia.
• Three: Senior adviser Charlie Black was a foreign lobbyist for dictators in Zaire and Angola in the 1980s, fodder for the liberal group MoveOn.org.
“Charlie Black said he didn’t do anything wrong. John McCain should tell Black he did. Call John McCain and tell him to fire Charlie Black.”
• Four: Frank Donatelli, the Republican National Committee’s liaison to the McCain campaign, has had clients including Exxon Mobil.
• Five: Economic adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer has lobbied for corporate giants like Koch Industries.
• The final two lobbyists are McCain’s congressional liaison, John Green, and national finance Co-chairman Wayne Berman. They both lobbied for Fannie Mae, the troubled mortgage giant.

McCain and the republicans think that americans are real big fools. TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE NOT.

Is that it?? Maybe 5% of the Palin ‘facts’ that would/could debunk the ‘fiction’ are in this tiny article. Just two things that you were able to defend? And even though you said Pastor Kroon was not her advisor, why would you continue to display his extreme beliefs. Has Palin commented on the Gay conversion process?? I would like to know that instead of details of where a gay conversion conference is held. How about catching up to those left-leaning bloggers and the political operatives and debunk the other thousand tall tales they keep making up? Personally, I believe all that has to be done is re-iterate the 82% approval rating. I hope Palin’s upcoming interviews will bring light to her actual beliefs and past decisions because you are doing a worse job of reporting than the left-bloggers and operatives.

Here is an assignment for you Mr. Springer……take this article, http://community.adn.com/adn/node/130537, and debunk as much as you can. Please don’t make me waste my time reading an article that had such a promising title!

If we are going to question Obama on his relationship with Rev. Wright then we must also question Palin on her relationship with Kalnins.

So, I ask again the question again. When will Fox debunk the myths and rumors about Barack Obama?

I am a Pentecostal Christian. I am a Registered Nurse and college graduate. I believe in bringing everything to God in prayer. So does a lot of other Christians. I believe that homosexuality is a sin but I have good friends that I see everyday who are lesbians and gay men. Idon’t agree with this life style but wish them no ill will nor do I treat with any thing but respect and love. Many other Christian denominations also believe this.Yes, my beliefs do guide my actions , how I vote and how I practice as a nurse. Every single persons faith, lack of faith, or belief systems do guide thier lives in someway or the other to say differently would be a lie. What does it matter to someone that dosen’t believe the rapture, speaking in tongues, or the great tribulation if I or anyone else does believe in these things. As far as I know no pentecostal in office has ever legislated that any one should be forced to do so. Nor has any Pentecostal ever chopped off someones head for not believing as I believe. As a matter of fact we are taught to pray for our enemies and those who despitefully use you. Who does that sound like?

Time will tell and so will reliable research. Gov. Palin has been overly and falsely accused more than any politician I know. The feminists have fought for “the working women” but apparently she has to be a liberal working woman who does not want to be “punished” with a needy child (as Obama states). This is the only reason she is being critized…she’s a conservative.

Comment by Nick

Interesting that whenever trying to dispel rumors relating to this woman FoxNews immediately makes accusations of people attacking her motherhood and religion, and then the only aspects they talk about Palin are her motherhood and religion. If we are talking about Fact or Fiction, maybe you should look at her policies and her claims.

Her claim: She is against earmarks
Fact or Fiction: Fiction. While governor Alaska has received more earmarks per capital than any other state.

Her claim: She was against The Bridge to Nowhere
Fact or Fiction: Fiction. It is now becoming clear that she actively sought funds for the bridge. Hired lobbyist friends of Abramhoff to obtain funds. Gets funds for said bridge. Criticizes the Bridge to Nowhere once it becomes a media spectacle, then does not return the funds.

Her claim: She is for limited government
Fact or Fiction: Fiction. She went into office as mayor with no debt, and left office with $22 million city debt thanks to failure pet projects like giant unused sports stadiums.

Her claim: She is going to Washington to serve the people
Fact or Fiction: Fiction. She used her political power to resolve personal grudges, fire police chiefs, and try to fire librarians, that did not help her achieve personal vedettas and projects.

There are so many other claims that need to be addressed by Palin, to discover if they are indeed fact or fiction, but unfortunately she refuses to have public exposure in interviews, answer questions, and then she and FoxNews accuse anyone who asks questions about her policies and experience as sexist or christian hating.

Please investigate these other unanswered questions that she fails to address:

Did she try and ban books at libraries in Alaska?

Is she or her husband part of a political organization that wants to succeed from the USA?

Why did she falsely make a claim that she is executive of the Alaskan National Guard?

Was Palin a part of a fund raising organization for now Sen. Ted Stevens, whom is indicted for bribery?

Did Palin hire a government administrator to help her run the mayors office?

Did Palin attend 5 different colleges in 6 years in pursuit of her journalist degreee? If so, why?

I’m sure I’m forgetting several.

I am sure that the Obama campaign does not want the Rev. Wright back in the front of his campaign making news again about his hatred of the United States and the belief the US government created aids virus to kill black people. With Obama saying today that a pig with lipstick is still a pig in reference to Gov Palin’s remark about Hockey Moms he is showing how desperate he and his campaign really are and that for the first time in this campaign his empty rhetoric is getting him nowhere…He still has yet to be addresed about the fact that he voted ‘yes’ to fund the bridge to nowhere and McCain voted ‘no’/

Comment by Jason the Centrist

If indeed Palin only wants people working for her that “support” her, then how is she ever going to get a differing opinion out of anyone? Everyone will be so scared that they’ll be fired for presenting an alternative idea or opposite point of view that “nobody will say nothing”. It strikes of narcissism and an egotistical personality, in my opinion.

Sarah Palin and her husband are high school sweethearts, married for 20 years, obviously in love with each other, have five children, are anti abortion, fiscally conservative, put their country first, are well liked by almost everyone (which few of us can say about ourselves), and the list goes on. I believe her life is a demonstration of her belief in strong family ties and values. She attends different churches from time to time – who cares??? I have friends who are pentecostal and, quite frankly, they are some of the nicest most caring people I know.

I’m still waiting to see a copy of Obama’s ORIGINAL birth certificate!!

Comment by wags374

Funny that the left is trying to pin her former pastors occasional comments on her, but are totally ignoring the 20 YEARS that Obama stayed with a hate spewing pastor.

Comment by mh

great debunking!!

can you please also debunk all these rumors that she is lying about saying “no thanks” to Bridge to Nowhere? and some of these liberal attack dogs on the blogs are claiming she raised the sales tax in Wasilla during her mayorship, and left the city in debt. they will say anything to get us against her!

anyway, please keep up with the great work!

Comment by Cary

The truth will prevail in the long run, good or bad. But Palin has been slandered more than most politicians in my lifetime. The feminists are attacking her for taking on the VP nomination with her family situation. Yet, they would so the same. This “working women” concept is what they have fought for, for years. Now that a conservative is doing what they would be doing…it’s WRONG. How hypocritical is that!

Comment by Keith Allen

What a delight to have a candidate that stands for the principles and direction that our country
was founded on. We have a women who raises her kids to respect
our country and honor the God that our country was founded on, and the media tries to find fault.
Go figure!

Comment by OMGIAMGOINGNUTS

Oh but wait…obama sitting in TRINITY for TWENTY years was ok? This is absurd. I think that Gov. Palin is far more Christian than obama could ‘ever’ imagine. Wonder what obama prayed for along with his fellow worshipers within the Black Liberation Theology rantings. Certainly makes one wonder now doesn’t it? The fact is this. WE believe Palin – we KNOW obama lies. And we won’t forget that yes he did sit in that church for TWENTY years listening to the rantings of hatred toward whites and the USA!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Comment by Robin

It is unbelievable how the liberal press is scrutinizing every decision that Palin ever made as Mayor or as Governor, yet Obama and Biden have gotten a free ride. Free of any accountability with constant praise of their liberal voting record. I think more people should be outraged at Obama’s voting history on abortion!!! OF course more people would be outraged if the mainstream press had not covered it up!

So we learn from this article that this batch of rumors are true. Sarah Palin is a born again Christian Conservative who contemplates the notion of banning books in public libraries; attends a church infamous for the inflamitory statements of the pastor ( remember Rev Wright? Is there a double standard here?); by her own admission retaliates against public employees who aren’t on the same page with her; thinks Creationism should be taught in the public schools. And finally, “the McCain camp is definitely downplaying any out of the mainstream beliefs she may hold”

Well for once, thank you Fox News

Let’s face it. Sara has the left scared out of their wits. Maybe GOD is on her side. Anyway, the left has no good arguments against her and no principles to stand on. So the only thing they know is to make stuff up, treat it as fact, hope that if they say it long enough, people will believe. They are in their visous attack mode. So why is this any surprise?

Where (oh, where) was the furor over William Jefferson Clinton’s “faith” on the Easter Sunday that he was videotaped walking out of church, holding his sometime mate’s hand and clutching a Bible in the other? Wasn’t it that same William Jefferson Clinton who, later that same Easter Sunday (which is the central pillar of the Christian faith), put away his Bible, dropped his sometime mate’s hand, and met Monica in the Oral Office?

Maybe his yelling, “Oh, God!” when he was having oral sex ( which wasn’t really sex) with Monica was sufficient proof of his belief in a Higher Being.

But, to today’s Socialist-Democrats (cum Communists), it’s perfectly OK to let all inhibitions and restrictions go by the board, to “go with their feelings” instead of practicing the least degree of self-control. Oh, no! There must NOT be any restrictions on human behavior — hence the Socialist-Democrats’ obsession with wiping out all forms of religion.

They’re attacking Governor Palin like ravening wolves — and this is the political Party which prides itself with it’s commitment to tolerance, sensitivity, understanding and diversity.

Karl Marx would be pleased.

It is unfortunate that the press attacked Sarah Palin as they did, so why should we now trust(your blog included) what they are saying now but regardless you guys need to get off the he said she said stories, it is already very old!!!!!

Comment by Mel

Could care less about her change of religion. the point is that on August 17, her preacher (is been confirmed that she did not attend, rings any bells???) he stated that war in Irak is a punishment for Jewish people. that’s using religion for politics purposes. she must have the same ideas…… and want a woman (mom) to comment if she would take a plane if she knew she was going into labor. was posted in the Alaska news.

Comment by Sharon Savoy

The problem is not the Pastor or his comments, the problem is most people don’t know what the Bible says (the word of God). Why are people are so upset that ‘prayer changes things’ – even a gay can be changed and have been if they want God to change them. People in this country still have freedom to read what God says and don’t have to depend on their Pastor or Priest. They can go directly to God through Jesus Christ. I suppose if a straight guy prayed to be gay that would be just fine and dandy with reporters. No controversy then. How hypocritical and unlearned reporters are.

Read the Newsweek article today posted on Drudge Report… it details all of the lies, smears and falsehoods the left wing bloggers and CNN’s O’Brien correspondent have said about Governor Palin. It’s unbelievable the lies perpetuated by the Democrats and Obama supporters (his campaign).

What some people who don’t know the evangelical scene don’t get is that evangelicals change churches a _lot_. It is quite common to change churches between various Protestant types, sometimes every couple years. It is also quite common for people to move away from Pentecostalism into more mainstream evangelicalism, getting tired of its excesses but not burning your bridges either, as you probably still have friends in that church.

Comment by Ryan

All this from the anointed one who told us that the smear tactics in politics needs to stop. Where is all the “Change”?

Comment by Greg

Well, after reading this I’d say she’s a pretty straight arrow. As for the majority of Americans, most of have moved from church to church and in many instances made denominational changes including a move to/from non-denominational churches for us Protestants. In fact, as I read this article I’d say she’s almost identical to the majority of social conservatives that are more populist in their view of government.

She and McCain have my vote…

Comment by Lauren

Palin definitely has a strong personality, but I don’t think it’s good in all aspects. I don’t think she can really be trusted to handle our nation. You can’t fire someone just because they don’t agree with you. If this is the sort of policy Palin is going to bring to the White House, I may not vote this year.

Comment by JRA821

She has no more to hide about her religion than Obama. And she has not attended that church in years while he continued to attend after Rev Wright’s outragious rants. Who cares? Speaking in tongues? This stuff is so left wing and ugly.

However the baby for sale on e-Bay was over the top. Simply cruel and horrible. Why does mainstream media even bother to discusss such trash? 10 or 15 years ago this type of access to the web was not available and we just need to pretend these lunatics do not exist. Let the underground lunatics rot in the dirt.

Comment by Louie

The Democrats are desperate. Dig, dig, dig. . . . .I do not recall reading where the McCain campaign sent dozens of high-dollar lawyers, etc. to dig into Ayers, Mr. Wright (he is NOT a “pastor”) and all the other shady folks Obama knows better than he wants us to know.

The only “fear” being spread is ALL from Obama. . .if you would just pay attention as to who is saying what you would “get it”.

Comment by Matt Taylor

Amazing how Republicans argue that Barack Obama is somehow accountable for the actions of someone thirty years before Obama met him yet Sarah Palin should be held blameless for the comments of her own spiritual advisor.

Comment by Matt Taylor

The fact that the Book banner known as Sarah Palin was even beginning the process of banning any books speaks volumes of the naziesque viewpoints of captain cavewoman.

Comment by laura lester

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am so disapointed in our news media, and the democrates on how they keep trying to dig up trash on Gov. Palin. Let’s face it the more lies they tell and the more trash they keep trying to dig up just makes me like her all the more! I believe she is a going to make a great Vice President and with her and McCian together we will see alot of changes for the American people!

Comment by Rod

All she needs to say is that she attended her church for 20 years and had no idea what they taught or how the pastor felt about any issues. She will be applauded by the media and her poll numbers will go up. I’ve seen this strategy this work before.

Comment by ES

I want to know when the main stream media is going to publize Barack Obama’s extremist church membership. Reverend Wright and his church is Chicago speak of their puplit hate mongering speech so in appropraite I can not type here. It disgusts me that the coverage is so oneside and it would be funny if it was not so sad that the Democrats are so desperate to discredit Sarah Palin.

Comment by Kathy

So, it’s not okay for us to look at the fact that Obama’s pastor is a racist and an adulterer, and the fact that Obama himself has bounced around with different religions (i.e. muslim), but it’s perfectly fine for the media to focus on Sarah Palin’s church as a way to deface her. By attaching her name to a pastor who supports a convention that ‘converts gays’ when that convention ISN’T EVEN BEING HELD BY THAT CHURCH… is a bit rediculous.
People, we need to start looking at what these politicians have to offer and stop buying into the drama that the media is hyping up.

Thank you for an excellent story and for adhering to the facts instead of digging for dirt, how refreshing!
