Kabul Security

Can I fly from Kabul airport to Bagram airport?

That’s how I am spending my morning investigating that question because security in and around Kabul is risky.

Two days ago one of our vehicles we use here was hit by a roadside bomb on the Kabul to Bagram road.

I wasn’t in it because we we’re off doing a story on the Afghan aircore but our local Afghan producer had ringing ears from the blast and shaking hands knowing he had come so close to being seriously injured.

I won’t use his name here because he say’s if he’s stopped by the Taliban and they know he works for a foreign TV company it’s a death sentence.

He doesn’t keep our telephone numbers in his cell phone now because the Taliban stop people on the roads and check their phones for evidence they are in contact with foreign people.

U.S. Commanders say the roads are generally safe but these attacks happen and scare everyone, especially local Afghans who have the perception security is deteriorating.

In the last month three aid workers were shot on the Kandahar to Kabul road.

So can we fly instead of driving 55 minutes to Bagram? It’s a question that say’s alot about security here in Afghanistan.

I live here in Kabul as well. My husband is a teacher here at a local international school.

This past month I opened the Kabul Dance Studio. Our goal is to give young girls the opportunity to grow in grace, confidence and poise through the teaching of classical ballet and tap classes. We currently have just under 50 taking classes. As you know, opportunites for young girls are few and far between in this country.

We would love to show you the studio and give you a positive taste of something going on in Kabul.
