GOP Voter on Dole Defeat: Advisers Blew it on “Godless” Ad

A year ago, North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole appeared to hold a safe Republican seat in a solid “red” state. But as her victorious Democratic challenger Kay Hagan put it tonight, “What a difference a year makes.”

Political strategists will, no doubt, spend the upcoming months analyzing this race and come up with a slew of factors that led to Dole’s defeat. But voters already have their ideas.

I received this email on Facebook from Steve, a FOX News viewer in Charlotte, NC:

Her advisers blew it with the Anti-God ad. Lots of people have moved here from the North and are good Christians but, they are Democrats. I am a staunch Republican but, I took offense to it. Especially since I was aware of Kay Hagan’s faith.

Steve is referring to an ad the Dole campaign launched last week, attempting to link Hagan to an atheist group.

The issue stems from a September fundraiser Hagan attended in Boston. Among some 40 individuals hosting the event was an adviser to Godless Americans, a political action committee that lobbies for separation of church and state.

Dole’s ad was an apparent appeal to the GOP’s conservative base. But the move may have appeared awkward coming from a senator who was generally considered a moderate Republican. And attacking her opponent on religion was a long shot, given that Hagan is a Presbyterian church elder and longtime Sunday school teacher.

Sorry, can’t be a Christian and vote Democrat. By voting Democrat, you are keeping abortion legal. This is sinful. I’m not saying you can’t be forgiven, but you knowingly do this in God’s face.
If you actually ask most people who say they are a Democrat, they don’t even know the Democrats are Pro-Abortion….how can so many people say they are something which they never define? Most people have very conservative values, but vote with ignorance.

Obama wins despite all your hate mongering. In your face Fox! You are irrelevant. Choke on your venom and die.

I hate to break it to all of you God Fearing Christians… but your omniscient god is a fiction… just like Fox’s program of “fair and balanced” news is a fiction. Perhaps if you want a dose of truth… you may wish to get your information from another source… and as far as Dole is concerned… who cares what Elizabeth Dole thinks… she is no longer a public servant of N. Carolina… move on… your Christian reign is hopefully ending. Neitzche killed god a long time ago… deal with it.

Comment by Anne Temblador

Dear Misguided Christians:

Neitzche took god out of the equation a long time ago… so deal with it… besides Dole is no longer a public servant of N. Carolina… she was defeated by the “godless democrat.” My question to all of you believers of an omnipresent creator is this: where was god when Dole needed a helping hand during her campaign…. he was nowhere… beacuse he is a f-ing figment of your imagination.

I voted for Dole, simply to try and keep government divided. Dole was weak and ineffective. She never visited the state enough for the people to see her. She did listen to the people on the bailout, but that was distorted by her opponent very well. She didn’t run a very effective campaign. She may have been born here but she is perceived as not really being a North Carolinian. The media hammered every position she took and the ad about Haggin being a non-Christian was just more ammo for the leftist media here in NC. She is a middle of the road Republican and she got run over.

Comment by Matthew Marius

Dole and her advisers should have done their homeworks before putting that ad. That’s what you get when you act on your emotions and not facts.

Comment by alyssa m

Dole is a disapointment. she did NOTHING for NC forever and then got all worried about Kay Hagan alittle too late..Well…i hope the REPUBS are happy now. they blew this election cycle for the American public. now we are in for some scary and terrible times for four years. how depressing. McCain was as exciting and powerful as a sweatshirt….no umph…very sad. I wished it would have been Rudy running. He had umph!

Anyone who votes for the democrat party will regret it come judgement day. Enjoy your brief victory on Earth, socialists, cuz you’ll live for eternity in hell with your false messiah.

Mike J…. come on dude. You are going to have to do better than that. I am a Christian and though I may not agree with abortion, I also do not have the right to judge. YOu need to read Matthew 7. In addition, I think you need to look at the BIGGER picture here and what God is trying to do for this country as a whole. It’s not about black, it’s not about white.. its about coming together as a country. What bothers me about my Christian brothers and sisters, is that we sit up here and we judge and judge and point the finger and totally miss the BIGGER picture. God is a God of Love, mercy, grace and most of all in the Bible (if you read) was all about helping those who in need and giving back. THIS IS THE CONSTANT THEME IN THE BIBLE…Instead, we focus so much on what’s wrong and what God does is not “pleased with”, we totally miss the full picture and essentially the true principles of what Jesus Christ stood for.

Matthew 7 Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Mike and Harold,

You’re both as wrong as wrong can get! My father-in-law was a very strong Christian in and out of the church house, he was also a WWII vet that volunteered at the age of 17 and fought in the liberation of the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. He was also a life-long Democrat. I don’t know either of you, but my guess, based on your comments, is that neither of you will ever be as good a role model in faith or true patriotism as he was.

I’m tarheel born and tarheel bred, live in another state now, but was also offended by Dole’s ‘Godless’ ad, even though I’ve also always been a Dole supporter.

I guess the $64,000 question is now who will the Democrats / Libs blame for the problems they’ve created and will create. They’ll probably blame Bush for a while even though they’ve had control for the last 2 years. What will happen to Barney Frank? Will he be a hero for ruining Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? No way, since Obama, the first non-US citizen to be elected, was part of training Acorn and leading legal efforts to make banks give out bad loans through intimidation.

But the people that voted for BHO don’t care about that. They think that handouts are on the way. I guarantee that the business community will find ways to dodge the taxing efforts and the libs won’t get what they thought was coming. Once they implement taxes on business, watch the economy spin into a depression. Global currency, one currency and then no currency…..just a mark on the foreheads of every Godless Liberal in this country, getting exactly what they deserve.

The law doesn’t matter anymore. Why be a good honest citizen when we can’t even get Obama to release his original birth certificate to the public voluntarily or through the courts. The courts don’t want it exposed along with all the criminal activity conducted by these elite power mongers.

Who cares about moral values. Isn’t it funny that abortion has killed 21 million African American babies and kept the African American population down so much and yet they vote for infanticide at every turn. They vote to keep themselves exterminated. How intelligent is that?

That answer’s my question. I’m going to start acting like a liberal. Cheat and lie and don’t obey the law….why bother? Nobody else is. Why stand up for good when the country doesn’t care about good anymore, just freebies and what they can get from others without lifting a finger. I’m going to become a liberal now and bilk and milk the system for all its worth and watch the system go down.

Harold why don’t you go fight King george’s personal war? This is one American veteran that is sick and tired of pseudo Americans such as yourself.

You are the loon and represent what needs to be deported out of this country.

Comment by Annie A

To Mike J. You can be a Christian and vote Democrat. I believe that abortion is a sin, but just as all other sins, God gives us the choice to commit them. Sin is sin. There is no difference in lying, stealing, etc in God’s eyes. We choose everyday whether we want to commit these sins. We should also choose whether or not to end a pregnacy. The decision is between that person and God alone.

Lets hope that at least president-elect Obama can light a fire under all people of color and show what he as an african american was able to achieve and no longer will we hear excuses that they do not have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Todays democrats are Godless people. Government is there God. Money is there Jesus. Earth is there heaven. The patriots that started this country never intended for all of the aspect’s of socialisum to ever be apart of government, because they had there faith in God. They went to there church for there heath care. They went to there family and friends for help. Sadly today, so many people now go to a building called a church, and dress up to look good. Then walk back out the door the same way they were. And then give there tithing to the government as taxes to remove all the guilt that they still have. I have never witnessed so much demonization in my life by so many people. If todays Democrates want so much change. Then they should start with changing there party name from the “Democrat party” to the “Demonrat party” as they are all lineing up like rats in front of government to get all the cheese they can get. I hear now that “change has come to America” Ok. Now what do we call this country? As a real christian, as Jesus is my savior, I am sadly filled today with only the words of the Lord from John 13:27 “What you are about to do, do quickly”.

I wonder how long it will take for those that voted this guy in office, to realize just how big of a mistake they have made. Lord help us!!

Idiotic comments by Mike J and Herrington show everything that is wrong about the fringe right of the Republican party. Having these fundamentalist zombies as part of the party is what has destroyed it. We need a new party called the Reasonables that specifically excludes the knuckledraggers.

Dole’s comment was over the top …. she deserved to lose. Goodness knows I hated to see a Democrat win …. but Dole stepped in her own mess … so be it!

Mike J – you said it all! God gave and sacrificed his son for us and the so called Christians couldn’t even vote for God (against abortion, if you can not get the right to life correct you can not get the other rights like speech, religion health care, defense etc correct either ) You can not be Christian and vote democratic. And to what you said Mike about beging forgiven. Besides confessing your sins you have to show reparation for this sin and not committ the sin again. So to the Christians that keep voting for abortion, your confession will be invein and very hypocritical. God Have Mercy on us All.

I still don’t think that you get it. Republicans are not EMPOWERED by God to rule over the rest of us. You have NO right to judge someone’s spirituality. You have no right to determine that a person is not a Christian if he/she does not agree with you. Republicans do not hold the ticket to Christianity or religion. This type of thinking is why you are in this situation. Democrats don’t support abortion; they support your right to do as your moral values or religion lead you. A good Christian does not call someone Godless… judge not, lest ye be judged. A good Christian knows that. Grow up Republicans and get some REAL faith that doesn’t involve fear, hate, and judgemental superior-pants attitudes.

I am a registered moderate Democrat that voted for McCain. I am willing to give Obama a chance. I just hope he does what he says he’s going to do.

Mike J,

You are my hero. You and you alone have the insight into the Lord’s mind and heart to bring to us the news that He has declared that one “can’t be a Christian and vote Democrat.” We now know that Jesus doesn’t care about providing care for the sick or the poor. He doesn’t care about torture or preemptive wars. Thanks to your insight, we now know for certain that when it comes down to it, the only thing that Jesus cares about is abortion.

Peace and Love,

Morgan

Is is really simple. You believe in GOD or you do not. Our next president does not stand for what Christians stand for and that means “he” does not. Our nation is in trouble. Our boys and girls out around the world protecting “all” of us are in trouble. This is a sad day for America. A very sad day.
My heart breaks. I pray that GOD will forgive us and have pitty on us.

Mike J….as a man…what gives you the right to sit down and force your beliefs on a woman and her body. What she decides to do is none of your business and has no bearing on your daily life.

To involve religion in any facet of the public citizenship is wrong in my opinion because this country was founded on diversity…and we showed that by electing Obama.

To be Pro-Choice is not Pro-Abortion as you so ignorantly put it. Pro-Choice is exactly that…a choice. She could keep the baby, put it up for adoption or have an abortion, whatever the decision it should be a private one. We have real issues that deserve real solutions why don’t we deal with our real citizens instead of unborn ones.

Separation of church and state is something that needs to be severely reevaluated in this country. We need to stop basing laws and BS amendments on one interpretation of the rights and wrongs in the world. I am neither Christian nor Catholic nor Jewish so why should my life be affected by the moral judgments of those who are. Who is anyone to tell another human being what they can and can not do to themselves or their bodies? Or to tell consenting adults who they can and can not marry to “protect the moral fabric of the American family” who decides what is the American family…again it’s a prime example of religion meddling in people’s lives and it needs to come to an end. And I think that this country has finally made a stand to say that LOGIC not RELIGION is what governs us as a society.

If you don’t support abortion…don’t have one…period.

Its funny. I’m an agnostic but I “believe” in a great deal of the message and mission of Jesus as written in the gospels. It is sad that many contemporary Christians do not. The gospels are glossed over these days because they aren’t judgmental or militant enough for the far right. The message of love, redemption and forgiveness of the gospels is placed in the shadow of Leviticus and John the Revelator to keep red meat on the plate of the fundamentalist base’s hatred. The fires of division and hatred are being stoked not the compassion, forgiveness and unity demanded by Jesus.

America proved last night that it is a moderate country, a country with a “live and let live attitude” with room for many different people and ideologies. I believe in the right to believe whatever you want but draw the line when your beliefs step on my right to be outside your theological boundaries.

The devout, the godless, the Republican and Democrat are all my neighbors, friends and family. Although we disagree deeply on many issues they are still neighbors friends and family first – not some kind of evil enemy bent on my death and destruction.

The reason the GOP is losing ground is that they keep going further to the right in a country of moderates. The times they are a changin’.

Color has nothing to do with it. Being a Christian and showing that you are a Christian was my point ms bullock!!!! I do not judge. That my friend is GOD’s job. You are old enough, I assume, to understand that if you hang with a bad crowd, you will be influenced by that bad crowd. A point that I would like to remind you, is my own “opinion”.
