Michelle’s Style Mishap

michelle

By Noelle Watters

I stayed up until midnight to see his speech. Whether or not you voted for Barack Obama, hearing what our new President-elect had to say seemed like something to wait up for!  So I watched and listened as Brit and company discussed, and just as I started to doze, it happened! On the stage amid a roar from the crowd came our next president, his two adorable daughters and, who was that? Could it be? The normally impeccably dressed Michelle Obama wearing THAT!

Oh God, I was horrified.  This is the most important night of your life thus far, Michelle, and you’re wearing THAT?

Now don’t get me wrong.  Up until this point, I was a huge fan of the future First Lady’s style.  As soon as she came on the scene she was compared to THE style icon when it comes to First Ladies: Jackie O’.  Like her, Michelle knows the importance of clean lines and the ease of dressing.  She dresses without trying to imitate others or looking like a Jackie O’ wannabe. Instead she adds a touch of her own style resulting in a modern, classic look.

michelle

Oh, how she impressed me with her slim short sleeve shift dresses in jewel tones or floral prints. Instead of sticking to a traditional strand of pearls, she would take chances opting for an over-sized, exaggerated style or a long strand with floral details. On another occasion, she chose a dress with just a bit of beads at the neckline to add a touch of glamour without going over the top. And of course, what made Michelle an independent (style speaking, of course) was her commitment to a simple flat shoe. Elegant, comfortable, and ensuring she didn’t look taller than our future president, Michelle made a flat look formal instead of casual. I was convinced the First Lady-elect would be a style super star.

And then last night happened.  She stepped onto the stage in that horrid Narciso Rodriguez Fall ‘09 red shift.  I was shocked. This is the guy best known for designing the glorious, elegant and simple wedding dress worn by Carolyn Bessette who married JFK, Jr.!  And as Barack spoke on this monumental evening, inspiring millions with his words, “Yes we can, ” all I kept thinking was, “No she didn’t!”

The dress was definitely a trendy choice, the cummerbund reminiscent of the bondage theme seen all over the runways.  The skirt too, originally sheer (thankfully Michelle had the designer make the change) was another huge fall ’09 trend.  Unfortunately, it just didn’t work. The splatter painted bodice and hem were distracting and the black side panels and cummerbund detail did absolutely nothing for Michelle’s shape!  Just about the only thing I liked were her kitten shoes and basic black cardigan.

Obama 2008 I would be thrilled to have a fashion forward First Lady, and in Michelle’s defense, I hope she continues to take chances when it comes to her wardrobe.   What a refreshing change that would be to the same old bright ladies-who-lunch suits we’ve all become accustomed to.  But as Sarah Palin would say, if asked whether this was a fashion disaster, “You betcha!”

Oh, and one more thing.  Michelle, if you’re reading this, your daughters are beautiful and looked lovely last night, as they always do.   But matching their mom? It wasn’t an American Girls Convention.  We look forward to some change!!

I was confused at first when she appeared on the stage. I thought it was Aunt Esther from Sanford and Son, in her Halloween costume. Then I realized it was Michelle Obama in a black dress with “paint” all over the front of it. Whatever!

Comment by Danyelle

This is the first blog I’ve ever commented on. I personally agree with the fact that Michelle’s dress wasn’t the best choice. Pretty, it was, but maybe a bit inappropriate for such an important night.

Comment by windwhisperer

what a style !! huh.. I hope she get addvices …sooner

Comment by Danielle Scott

Michelle Obama’s dress on Election night was horrible. A true testimonial to sometimes apparell looks good on a hanger, but on National TV–yikes! Do you think she forgot to look in the mirror?

Comment by Brynna from Virginia

I didn’t care for it either, but the the night was so much bigger than an Oscar award show. I hope she chose it and wore it even it other did tell her it was not attractive. I appreciate a back bone in a First Lady far more than I appreciate bodice boning.

Comment by oltexgal

As a conservative, I’m not crazy about this election outcome, but couldn’t care less what the Obamas, Palins, or McCains wear. Judging anyone by their clothing IS shallow. Sometimes it can give you a hint about how they choose to spend money, but little else. I hope Mrs Obama and her children don’t get caught up in dressing to please idle critics. Remains to be seen how Obama will serve, what contributions the family will bring to the Whitehouse. It’s no small accomplishment to become President and First Lady of the United States. I respect the office and position. Will probably be screaming about liberal policy, and likely disagree with every Obama initiative, but will never disrespect this first family, by criticizing them for insignificant crap. Theirs is an unenviable role, given the critical issues facing the country. Their lives will be under a microscope. Many are eager to pounce on every misstep. Let’s cut them some slack on clothes and pose, and focus on substantive issues.

Comment by somuchmorethanamom

I agree, it was a very unfortunate choice. I commented to my hubby that she needs a personal stylist ASAP.

Comment by Beefcakes

Michelle O’s horrible choice of dress is extremely important – it shows the presidential family has no style.

Comment by Chris Maddox

My wife and I both thought Mrs. Obama’s dress looked like a black widow spider, and was not very flattering.

Comment by OBAMAMAMA08

Seriously, it is clothing on a person’s body guys. Someone said that a first lady should exhibit style and grace…huh? It is 2008 hun. So sorry if her dress offended you but I will be willing to bet you will be even more stunned, and in a way that actually matters, when you see the positive contributions Michelle Obama will make to this country as first lady. I mean, this family steps out on stage not knowing wheather or not some redneck, whack job is going to try something crazy and all you are is horrified and dissapointed by her outfit?

Comment by jaucoin

I am not at all surprised that people are commenting on her style of clothing. But, really ladies get over yourselves. It’s all about the change. Why should she look like all the other women in the WH.
So she picked one that was not so Vera Wang. This comment only proves one thing we really need change now. Ladies your thinking is shallow. I am a 57 year old white women. She proves that suits and pumps in the New White House are for the past generations and the past first ladies. CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE I JUST LOVE IT.

Comment by MikeP

It appears that after they spent all the milions to buy The House, nothing was left for the dress.

Comment by Beth

I think it looks like a black and red Winnie-the-Pooh outfit. She goofed – go back to the classic style of the campaign.

Comment by michelle

To Seriously,
Your comment is beyond low, did it make you feel better to attack a defenseless infant? I sure hope the rest of the people that voted for obama are nothing like you, but I have my doubts.
Maybe one day you will know what it feels like to have a special needs child, Sarah Palin has more courage in her little finger then you will ever possess. But alas, in YOUR perfect world a child like him would have been aborted.
May God have mercy on your soul.

Comment by Barbara Wolfe

To S. Gordon. Maybe Obama should have used some of the MILLIONS of dollars he raised to buy his wife some clothes. At least Sarah looked the part she was trying for. Sarah & Cindy looked beautiful and honored America.

Comment by Bruce from NJ

First comment out of the starting gate – “as retarded as Trig Palin”? Really that was over the top. Probably really funny at the frat house over a keg of beer…but really, really uncalled for in a public forum.

Let’s leave the family members alone, Seriously…

Comment by Thia

Michelle is too wide and thick in the veranda for that style of dress.

Comment by Trish

When I saw her and the girls in those outfits, all I could think was did they still have on their Halloween costumes.

Comment by Helga

That has got to be the most HIDEOUS dress I have ever seen. No, Michelle knows nothing about style, manners, or class. Cindy McCain, Palin, and Laura Bush had it down to perfection. If Michelle is going to be showing up with her husband at state events she needs some help PRONTO. Basic training helps also – don’t stand up in front of a crowd in a dress with your legs separated – that’s elementary Watson.

Comment by Carrie

Seriuosly——-
I can’t even believe you said that about Trig Palin. I have never been more offended by a comment in my whole life. I show no respect for a Democrat or Republican that would make such a horrific comment.
That is the cutest baby and you should just be ashamed. I have a special needs child and your comment brought tears to my eyes, I can’t believe how horrible Americans have become.

The minute I saw the dress the only thing that popped into my mind was a black widow spider. There it was the hourglass red spot on a black background. (Vivid)
I fell out of my seat.

Did anyone else see that impression?

Comment by Mercy

Her true colors were shown. Red and black are the colors of the black panthers. The whole family was in red and black showing their support for a radical group. Wake up everyone. Change is definitely coming.

Comment by yvonne hruby

I cannot believe that women are pouncing on what Michelle Obama is wearing. Jeez- at least wait until the woman has time to breathe about being the first black First Lady, then go on about what she wears. Like any of it matters anyway.

Comment by Lyn

Michelle Obama’s dress made her look like a “black widow spider”!!! Seriously, I thought maybe it was her Halloween costume or something!! Wow!

Comment by Jackie

Here again. The colors did show.
She can’t help that she bears a remarkable resemblence to Sapphire Stevens of the Amos and Andy Show.
I was surprised that she removed the bone from her nose.
Can you imagine, the white house lawn being littered with junk cars???

Comment by Jerry

I am an old man from Montana, I do not know much about style, but I do know that the press picks on the new first lady. I thought she looked absolutely beautiful and was proud that she will represent this great country.

Comment by Lori

When I saw Michelle Obama walk out on Tuesday night I was struck by how striking and attractive she looked! The dress might simply have been too “trendy” for some to apprectiate. Also, I liked the color balance between her red/black dress and one daughter in red, one in black and her husband in both colors.

Comment by notSnarky

When I saw her, my jaw hit the floor. She looked pregnant and hunchbacked. I had forgotten about it until I saw this and realized I wasn’t the only person horrified by that dress. That was an extremely important event in history, and I am disappointed that she got it so wrong.

Now that I’ve read the comments, I agree, she does look like a black widow. An unfortunate comparison, but there it is.

Comment by Becky

I couldn’t believe Michelle would wear such a horrible dress for such a special night! That was what we couldn’t help but focus on as the family stepped on stage. It does matter that she represent the position she’ll soon hold for America. The comment from “Seriously” that it doesn’t matter & commenting on Gov. Palin’s son is JUST PLAIN WRONG & YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!

Comment by Nikki from Texas

Just goes to show you you shouldn’t drink so much red kool-aid. Hey, the press slammed Sarah Palin about her clothes…Michelle is fair game. Her choice was in real poor taste…maybe the dress will end up as drapes in the White House.

Comment by Donna

Could not believe my eyes, I was hoping it was just the lighting and a shadow.

Comment by Mary

Isn’t it funny how some here are mad just because someone brought up Michelle’s clothing, I bet they didn’t have a problem when Palins clothing was discussed. Well get used to it people, this is just the beginning, it all comes with the postion. Bottom line.. she is way to hippy to wear somthing like that, someone, anyone should have told her that before hand.

Comment by Dan Easlon

Please! This is silly. History was just made and your concerned about the dress of this beautiful woman. Just as you are concerned about what Sarah Palin wears. History would have been made if the first woman was elected Vice President. I have two words for you. Shame! Shame on you for being concerned about nothing that but a dress. and the second word. Shallow. I pity the people that can’t see the forest for the trees.

Comment by Really Sad to be an American

I read some of the posts here and had to respond to many so I decided to respond in one post of my own. Here are a few.

Seriously – you should be ashamed of yourself for making a comment about Trig Palin!!!! You need to get on your knees each day and pray that God gives you a healthy child and keeps your children healthy. I’m surprised that you indeed eat out of that nasty mouth!!! And yes, FOX should remove your post from this blog.

Shirley – If Sarah Palin’s wardrobe was important enough to talk about during the campaign then MaBama’s certainly is as well. Or, is that now considered racist?? This comment is meant for Reek as well.

Blee – Good observation. Finally the scrutiny that the Bama’s should have had all along. It’s just a little late now. Hopefully, he won’t ruin our country too much in four years and we can get rid of him though our voting process as crooked as it is.

Sharon – Making ignorant comments about challenged people especially innocent BABIES IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE. Didn’t yo mama teach you that as a child??

Mary/Karen – Right on!!! MaBama will never be Jackie O.

To all those posts regarding MaBama’s dress, I agree with you all. That was the most unflattering piece of material that I have ever seen. Yes, it did look like a huge spider web covered in blood. To quote her husband’s views on wealth re-distribution, I hope to heck that she doesn’t donate that one to Goodwill. I would hate to see that one on any poor soul. Let’s move from her dress to her young child’s RED dress. Why would any mother (or fashion designer) let her small child wear a red dress like that. Children don’t know any better but come on MaBama you should. But then you didn’t have a clue when it came to your own so how could have a clue about your child’s dress.

Isn’t posting fun?????

Comment by Laine

I have no opinion about Michelle, I don’t know her. However, I do know that was one ugly, unflattering dress. Someone please call “WHat Not To Wear”!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Memory

I, for one, actually loved the dress — it brought both colors (red & black) together and went with what the rest of her family was wearing…. get over it!!!

Comment by Kevin

Looked like she had hugged a freshly painted fire hydrant!

Comment by Linda

I am shocked that there would be so much fuss over a dress? I didn’t care for it; but who cares.? This is childish. I am surprised more arn’t commenting on the fact Obama isn’t African American any more than he is plain white – he is bio-racial and why is that not spoke of? We have our first BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT AND that is a fact.

Comment by Gloria Albertini

The ugly spider dress made me laugh on a very sad day for our country. Michelle looked like a clown while the rest of her family looked classy. Too bad

Comment by Alexandra

The dress was horrendous. She is no Jackie O. Her dresses typically emphasize her butt. She does not now how to hide her problems and emphasize her positive features.

Comment by Tiffany

Maggie Potenza is right on!! This election was bought and paid for!! Senator Obama should have used some of those campaign dollars for a “first family stylist”…the whole family needs a makeover…

Comment by Ken

Does it really matter – she is butt ugly

Comment by Bj

I agree the dress was not for her. She is a beautiful lady however, beauty is only skin deep. I hope she will be a First Lady we all can be proud of. Mrs. Eleaner Roosevelt was a great First Lady and she helped so many people, it was not how she looked but how she helped our country.

Also President elect Obama, is as much a white American as he is black American.

Comment by dan

Seriously (That was how you signed your name)..

You are a cruel and evil person to make a comment about Trig Palin. You must be a small and shallow person or so immature and ignorant that you cannot fathom the hurtfulness of your words.

Had you made that statement in my presence, and you were a male, one of us would be on the floor, and I am betting on you being that one, as that is what you clearly deserve. I hope you get what you deserve. I never resort to physical violence, but a statement like that is a clear indication that the fastest way to whatever brain you have would not to attempt a constructuive debate on your statement.

Insect.

Comment by Ed Peel

I think the way MO is and was dressed is the least of our problems with her. She’s the one behind the scenes.

Comment by CJ

I am a big fan of Barack and Michelle Obama and am super impressed with their intellect and hopes for the country, BUT having said that, I felt that her dress probably looked good on the rack, but not on stage.

In fact, I thought it looked like she was wearing an apron! Please, Michelle, get some other fashion advice!

Comment by Bill

I thought they all looked like they were dressed for Halloween. We got to look at this crap for 4 years.

Comment by Adriane

to Karen:

you’re right. michelle o will never be a jackie o. and thank god for that. i still want to know what jackie o did to make her so amazing other than her dressing like an uptight yuppie. jackie o doesnt even come close to how intelligent and humble and real michelle o is. i would rather have michelle be my icon than jackie o anyday.
she made something of herself before president elect obama ever came into her life. this is what is wrong with women in our society. most women are vain and superficial, there is more to a woman than her clothes.
a woman can wear the most fabulous dress and still have an ugliness inside of her. or she can wear rags and be the most beautiful person. jackie o married money. michelle o made her own. and dont worry. there is someone out in the world thinking you are wearing hideous clothing.
oh and one more thing….she’s first lady. something you probably will never be. oh and this is all coming from a white middle class woman and mom.

Comment by ashley

I first saw an article complaining about Michelle’s dress last night, and was shocked that people were criticizing her for it. When she walked out the other night, I remember thinking how GREAT she looked, and I thought the dress really suited her. This totally confuses me. Oh well, I hope she does not care at all, because fashion critics so often make bizarre evaluations of clothing anyway. So I cannot take these opinions very seriously.

Comment by Bryan

Yeah, it’s stupid. But 52% of Americans are stupid. Was this whole campaign not about appearances, race, media, and marketing? Of course they care about what she’s wearing- they didn’t care about the issues.

Comment by Misty

To Seriously: I agree that it does not really matter if her clothing was in good taste or not, but your comment about Trig Palin is not of good taste. You should be ashamed of yourself in scooping so low and picking on an innocent child that has absolutely nothing to do with Michelle’s woredrobe and is a blessing, as are all children.

Comment by Dan Keller

With all the serious issues we are facing in this election & at this time in history. You are seriously wasting space on her dress!!!!???? Seriously … real life is happening out there of which this is not!

Comment by myra

that dress should be burned…that was absolutely horrific…she is now the first lady of our country…show style all you want, but that dress made her look 10 ft wide and did nothing for her shape at all…granted, she’s not a pencil like cindy mccain, but still…she has looked much much better than that designer piece of trash gives her credit for.

Comment by Erin

You people must have nothing better to do, really. I clicked ont his story to see if it was a joke and it is. She looked beautiful and I am sure that we all have better things to worry about. Get a life.

Comment by bill

Get over the dressing part will ya? What’s wrong with you people concentrate on what is important. Where is your head! You’d find fault with heaven if you were there…too mch light….too much gold….too much this…too much that.!

The dress had red (GOP) in it too…maybe there was a statement in that I don’t know. Who cares.
Obama is the prez now and the country is in trouble they need the support of the people if they follow the Constitution and are upright people. But a dress or dress talk is foolish.. You guys have too much time on your hands

Comment by Brown Girl

I would just like to say that I’ve noticed that the Obama’s like to compare themselves to the Kennedy’s and try to follow in their footstep. However, I wonder if both of them have forgotten that they are blacks and the Kennedy’s were whites. So many black people supported Barrack Obama and helped him win this election therefore they should be inspired by one of the many successful black couples in America and not by a white couple.

Comment by Marunor

She is unfortunately ugly with that overbite, no amount of makeovers with expensive designer clothes will make her look good. Jackie O. would turn in her grave if people keep comparing this woman to her.

Comment by S Gordon

Last but not least and my final reply to this issue have you ever noticed that an opinion can’t not change DESTINY in the end GOD has the final say so suck it up soldier deal with where you are in time and do your part to make the difference be part of the solution not the problem.

Comment by Jivan

What was that black-and-red-mess dress she had on election night? Ugh! Talk about an awful dress—where did she dig that up? She has horrible taste — dressing a young girl in black? Michelle is going to need a major overhaul – she looks like the ‘BEFORE’ of your worst nightmare. Too bad Mr. Blackwell died — Michelle would easily top his Worst Dressed List.

Comment by S Gordon

Oh women as to the example Michelle is setting in the fashion trend what about what she is doing to promote self confidence. self-esteem and self worth. But let’s get our girls focusing on the latest trend I tell you that is more important. Vanity Vanity Vanity that’s what our girls need more of. The very reason we are as women behind the eight ball right now, so busy trying to dress the part and not be apart.

To all those that are giving tribute to McCain and his time in the war well that’s great; my brother is a CSM and he had many odds against him but he is not topped out in the Military and both he and his wife are doing well. He has sat with the president and other high up officials so if you want to support something go out to your local shelter and help with the veterans that are homeless and on the street. I grant you most of you who are talking about your family members being these great people don’t even have contact or speak to them or reach out to them if they are still alive.

It ’s a great point to make that this man like Bush may have had a personal vendetta to finish because he was a POW. Bush wanted to vindicate his father’s fight and at America’s expense he has done it. We are fighting a senseless war and most of you know

Comment by Ugh!! Is all I can say

Please don’t anyone ever compare her to Jackie Kennedy. She is just a mad looking ugly woman with no class or style. I wonder what those white house curtains are going to look like?

No comparison to Cindy McCain, who is beautiful, articulate, classy and would have made a wonderful first lady.

Comment by Porter

OK just watch Remember when Hillary Clinton tried to act like the “good wife” during the 1st Election for Bill than suddenly she was super woman Hillary RODAM Clinton” and showed her true intentions.

Well Michelle looks like a Black Widow Spider in that dress. Watch out she has an agenda and god only know what that will bring.

Looks like the fires of hell leaking out onto her dress.

So now you all know how the media bashed Sarah on her donated clothing!!!!!

Comment by Suzalin

To : S. Gordon and all the rest who want to critize Palin on the money issue with clothing you better know this dress Michelle wore was in the 4 figures category -direct from the designer – alterations made to fit Michelle and so it wasn’t sheer – so it could have been in the 5 figures category too! She is not your Dimestore Queen as you want her to be she is used to a life of luxury to spend as willing living in a million dollar mansion!

She looked like a “Black Widow Spider” in that dress and it should humilate her for spending that kind of money on the dress! Look at all the money Obama collected and spent in his campaign he could have bailed out the banks and still have been elected to office!! The question now should be why is he able to be allowed to save that money and not put it back to the people or the government in support of quailty programs??

Response to Seriously – it takes guts and a lot of class to casually mock baby Trig. You ought to take a good look in the mirror & count your blessings.

To Maggie Potenza
I understand your experiences have lead to your patriotic beliefs as an American. No one questions the integrity of John McCain, who has served America wonderfully. However, the sentiment envoke from your passage can be concieved as “bitter”. While you pointed out what you have experienced as an American you seem somewhat aloof that anyone else could have had different experiences in this country than yours. To ensinuate that Mrs. Obama is only patriotic because she will now be a resident of the White House is merely as “bitter” as some of the political tactics employed by the election process’ we’ve experienced the past few years. Let me ask you question, have you ever had your civil rights denied or felt that your voice doesn’t matter or been descriminated against? How about been denied due process of the law, targetted unjustly because of the color of your skin? I am a professional young African-American male. As a citizen I have never comitted a crime or harmed anyone in my life. This has been a common experience of my life. Sometimes people don’t often notice the privileges that they are afforded just by not having to walk in someone elses shoes. Descrimination has been a way of mainstream America for hundreds of years. Whether we agree to the extent of America’s history of racism, descrimination, segregation and many other social issues that effected the citizens of this country, is a topic for another conversation. You may not have experienced this but many others have. So Mrs. Potenza, the cost of patriotism has not been the same for all Americans, as I am sure that Mr. McCain can attest. He served his country admirably but his decision was one of personal integrity and as a result of the pride he felt for his country. However, many others pay a cost everyday living here due to social issues that are the reality of their everyday lives. To emply that America turned it’s back on Senator McCain, whom himself has declared that he was the luckiest man in the world, is somewhat near-sighted considering the hundreds of thousands of American’s who are losing their pensions, homes, and jobs. The American population has spoken. We heard the voices of this country loud and clear. Many of us have had to struggle through the last 8 years and would gladly give our lives to ensure that our children will have a future brighter than what we’ve experienced in the recent years and would’ve faced had this country continued down this path of destruction the current administration held led us down. Hopefully, President Obama can lead us in another direction. He will need our support as American’s to do so. It’s not his fault we’re in the shape we’re in but our choices (Bush) have made it possible to be here. If we are to have a brighter future it starts now and that would include people like yourself getting over the results of the CHOICES that the public has made. Your bitter sentiment, and those who share your views, hopefully will wane in the very near future. It is time to move on for the sake of prosperity and living the American dream for all Americans. So hopefully one day we can all feel as patriotic as you and Mr. McCain.

Seriously,
You ar one sick jerk! You must have been dropped on your head as a baby, talk about retarded!

Comment by Cynthia

Well, she didn’t look very elegant in it – a shame, but not a scandal. What I didn’t like about it was simply the redness of it. Not very logical for a win by the democrats – to put their new First Lady, a woman of color, in a black dress with such a red explosion in the middle. To me it made the statement: I’m a black republican. I know that’s hogwash, but from a minimalist fashion point, it’s what it looked like. (Just as Sarah Palin looked very odd at McCain’s concession speech, standing behind him in that blue suit. If she harbors any hopes of being the Rep. candidate in 2012, perhaps the last pic of her as a VP candidate shouldn’t be in the democratic colors.)

Michelle Obama would surely look gorgeous in a very striking purple – and the “unity” theme could have been underscored by choosing that beautiful mix of the two colors red and blue. (On the other hand it may have some sort of royal significance of which I am not aware.)

Aside from that, I wish them well and think that the whole image thing is not as important as what comes from the heart. I believe they both have a great portion of heart and soul, so that’s no problem. But she probably should tighten up her fashionata sense a little. He always looks fabulous, and she needs to be brought up to his level of understated elegance.

I think our First Family should look elgant – hard working, butstill exude elegant and ease when it comes to big events. I hope Ms. Obama will have access to good stylists and get good advice in the future.

Comment by melbelsa

Seriously…….what a mean thing to say. Trig Palin is an innocent child. Of course it matters. Michelle Obama looks like a pit pull with a Halloween costume gone bad. First Lady attire? I don’t think so.

I sure hope someone works on her wardrobe!!!! What 5 and dime did she get that dress?? Tacky, tasteless and NO CLASS!!! Is this what she’s bringing to the White House?? Continue to keep her out-of-site!!!

Comment by Lou

Just looked at this article briefly….first thought when I saw the dress here…..Black Widow (spider).

Comment by K

I really don’t care what she wore; I don’t care if she did get it at Target; If she did, good, that just means she has more in common with the ‘common’ ppl. Just because she’s the first lady doesn’t mean she has to squander her money to appease other ppl. I see her as a strong black woman, regardless of whatever she wears..and like REEK said; most ppl were thinking of the impact this had on America’s history, but I expect nothing less from ppl that MUST criticize any aspect. Everyone has their own opinion and tastes, unfortunately, some ppl weren’t taught that if you can’t say/write anything nice, keep it to yourself. Stop spreading negativity.

Comment by Brown Girl

I am not the greatest when it comes to fashion but I have not seen anything on Michelle Obama that impress me so far. He dresses always make me think that a seamstress next door put it together for her in a hurry. She has bow legs that needs to be covered up a bit more.

Comment by Gloria

Clothes like make-up should be subtle and enhance a person’s assets. I don’t want to be mean or petty because I believe Tuesday night was an historical night — an African-American being elected president of the U.S.A. –, but that dress Miichelle was wearing was weird. At first I thought it was the lighting, but when I realized it was the dress. To put it mildly, I thought it was a poor choice. It was weird! I did vote for McCain/Palin and if Sarah had worn a dress that looked like that, there would have been no end to the negative media commentary. I want to support and pray for our next president, but I feel very discouraged about the liberal media and their tearing down of Sarah Palin. I believe that a woman with conservative values is discriminated against. I know this first hand from a state university that I attended in New York. We still have a LONG way to go!. I support Sarah Palin and I hope she runs for president in 2012. Let’s give her a billion dollars and campaign for her. The liberal media is trying to tear her down. Men who want woman to stay in the kitchen and woman who are jealous of her are not helping the situation.

Her dress looks like the flag of Castro’s Cuban revolution.

The black and red dress did make her look like a spider. She has her place in history and I know that we as republicans want to treat her the same way that the Dems and far left treated President BUSH, but lets show them that we are able to rise able that childish behavior. I wish her and her kids nothing but good in their lives.

I too believe Michelle is a beautiful women, who normally dresses very good. I do believer she could wear clothes that taper to her figure more. As she has a very nice figure. The election night dress was a bit off. But I can cut her some slack on that.

As for an earlier poster’s comment regarding Trig Palin. That was so LOW and DISGUSTING. YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE!!

Who gives a hoot what obama is wearing? Hopefully fours years from now they have caused enough damage like Jimmy The Peanut Carter and they are GONE leaving devastation and embarassement behind.

REEK, you comments are hilarious. Here you are complaining about how Fox has an article talking about Michelle Obama’s clothes…but as a Demorat, you probably were right on board when the mass media was condemning Sarah Palin for her $150K wardrobe. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror to see who to blame for this kind of stuff. You have seen the enemy, and it is you.

Amazing how all the news sites complained about Palin’s $150,000 wardrobe, but GOD forbid Mrs. Messiah is criticized. On Fox to boot! I thought Hitlary was scary, Obumblehead’s wife is even worse!

Michelle’s dress was a horrible disaster! I thought she looked like she was 9 months pregnant – her hips flew past her shoulders making her total figure unflattering! Every person who is in “the spotlight” is subjected to “Fashion Police” – Mr. Blackwell probably rolled in his grave and Michelle can be thankfull he died before her appearance or the stories would be bombarding the internet and talk shows! She also needs to stop dressing the children and herself in similiar outfits! Looks cute to have the kids in matching outfits but Mom get on with your age! Respect comes from being comfortable with your age, not looking like a tweeny bopper would be a good place to start. We might think she has a brain!

Those of you who see these rants as insightful, indignant to the officious occasion in which she choose to wear this…C’mon! Take a GOOD look in your mirror at your outfit before walking out the door !

sarah palin might seem brainless but she did the right thing by hiring a fashion savvy consultant. Michelle is vice versa.

Michelle’s dress makes her look like one of the Yoruba gods here in Nigeria called Eshu. Traditional folklore states that eshu is commonly gressed in red and black with the colors on one side each. Too bad, i’ve always admired her brains and a, sorely disappointed. Nigeria has a lot of Fashion Desogners. We willbe happy to recommend our best to her so tah she doesnt look like she is wearing what we call Cut and Sew which is commonly made by roadside tailors here.
No hard feelings though, Michelle.

Michelle looked like a black widow spider with the black dress and the red on her chest and belly. WHAT was she thinking ? Clearly she wasnt !

I also thought Michelle in this dress looked like she was 9 months pregnant. I cannot understand why she did not look at herself in the mirrow before buying this dress. This was not the dress to show for the history books of what she was wearing that night. I hope in the future she will find herself someone to ask does this dress fit and actually flatter me and make me look good?

YOU ARE JUST JEALOUS. IT IS DISPICABLE HOW YOU ARE SO QUICK TO CRITICIZE. WHY DON’T YOU CHANNEL YOUR ENERGIES INTO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE, IN YOUR LIFE!
MICHELLE AND HER DAUGHTERS LOOKED ABSOLUTELY ‘PERFECT” TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
WE ARE RIDING THE SAME OLD…SAME OLD…
ESPECIALLY COLUMNS LIKE YOURS….
CHANGE!!

My comment is for Seriously.

I believe the only thing that is retarded is your statement about Trig Palin. Your comment is heartless, cruel and hateful! Trig Palin is a little boy you most likely know little if anything about other than he has Down syndrome. Your statement tells me that your are ignorant about the syndrome. An enlightened person about the syndrome would never leave a comment such as yours. I would suggest to you that you expose yourself to people in our society who have Down syndrome and to those who love them before you decide to leave another ignorant degrading comment about those who can’t help how they were born. My guess would be that you won’t do that because you may discover what wonderful contributing members of society people with DS can be and your ego will not allow you to process the fact that your statement was far from appropriate or justified. This may come as a huge shock to you …but most peole with DS can read. Imagine what Trig will feel like some day when he reads hateful degrading statements such as yours about himself someday on the internet. Imagine the anguish his family feels when they read what your wrote. In my home we find people like you repulsive!
BTW to some people Michelle Obama’s choice of dress does matter especially since the msm swooned all over her as the next fashion icon. How about respecting the author’s opinion!
Is your hateful statement about an individual born with a disability that type of change an Obama presidency is going to bring???

Comment by ComeonNow

Seriously now, all the conservatives and right wingers have left is to “pick on a dress?” Don’t you think your time and energy could be spent in a better way?
You lost. Not only did you lose, but the country has stood up to your elitist racism and said ENOUGH!!!
Welcome to the 21st Century.

Ok Janie- lets stop being mean! What about the CONSTANT meaness of the MSM toward Sarah Palin?? Why were the dems so mean to her that they had to destroy her every move when Biden, who made several gaffes was given a free pass?? McCain tried to run a clean campaign but EVERY ad BO put on TV or radio was mean and totally false. So lets all be nice and support BO, NO WAY!

Comment by J.D.

I agree with Kaia…who cares about the dress but why in the world do you have to stoop to the level of hurling ridiculously cruels remarks about a child who has Down’s Syndrome? What in the world is wrong with people like you??Talk about “negative reporting”…how negative is that…you don’t want anyone to criticize the precious M. Obama’s dress, but yet you can say such a cruel thing!
