Backstage at ‘Huckabee’ w/ Jerry Springer and Ann Coulter!
Sparks flew between Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ann Coulter during last week’s show. Mike aired a bunch of clips of Ann blasting him during the primaries, insulting him with phrases like, “He’s (Huckabee) a stupid Christian”. Ouch!!! And other such similar comments.
Those of us in Greenroom were cringing and wincing. However, true to form, Mike handled it like the humble statesmen he is. He was diplomatic, but didn’t back down. And the next segment was devoted to talking about Ann’s new book “Guilty”.
However, guest Jerry Springer, watching from backstage had one suggestion during the more contentious moments of the interview… he shouted at Mike via the TV, “throw a chair!” Ah Jerry!
Musical guests this week were The Bellamy Brothers. Howard and Dave Bellamy first hit the national charts in 1976 with their hit “Let Your Love Flow”. It’s a song I thought they wrote. Turns out their big hit was written by one of Neil Diamond’s roadies, Larry E. Williams. It’s a fact Howard Bellamy made sure to tell me during rehearsal. But that’s how gracious these two Southern country boys are.
BTW, they say they’ve probably performed “Let Your Love Flow” more than 6,000 times, BUT, were more than willing to play through it as often as us members of ‘The Little Rockers’ needed, to make sure it went well during the show. Mike joked that of those 6,000 performances, most of them were during our rehearsal!!! That’s a joke!
Other interesting stuff: Ann Coulter borrowed those silver hoop earrings she wore during the interview from FOX hairstylist Gavina Valdez. Ann was behind schedule and in a flurry and had lost one of her earrings along the way. So, instead of going without or just wearing one, Gavina lent her the pair she was wearing. Ann said they looked much better than her own. So if you watch the clip, know that those earrings aren’t Ann’s.
See you next week!!

I did not know she called Mike Huckabee a stupid Christian. He was certainly gracious to have her on his show. I will not watch her anymore Keep up the good work Mike. My grandmother was a Baptist from Arkansas. Your trivia for the day.
Mike, keep up the good work and please remain in the public forum. We need men of your inisght and convictions in public office. I have enjoyed the book “Do the Right Thing.”
I think most people just don’t know how to take Ann Coulter, but lighten up and maybe you wont be so upset. I believe her when she says she is satyrical because I dont hear hate when she talks about people.
Are you sure you have your facts straight? It does not sound like Ann to attack someone’s Christianity, as she is very pro-Christian herself.
Gov. Huckabee handled the back and forth well – not being fearful of the issues involved, holding his ground, and yet doing so in a diplomatic way. The allegations Ann had made are old news and have been discredited long ago. In the end I’m hopeful that Ann Coulter would come around to liking Mike- How would that be: a true conservative who gains the respect of everyone from Ann Coulter to Frank Rich. Sounds like the next president to me.
Huck did a good job in handling her. She had been very critical of him previously, but changed during the discussion because she wants to sell her book.
I used to respect Ann Coulter, but no longer. Mike, whom I voted for, is brilliant and a “Voice Crying in the wilderness”. She has no Christian testimony. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” She certainly revealed her heart for everyone to hear. He proved the verse that “Love covers a multitude of sins.”
I got a kick out of the Ann Coulter/Mike Huckabee encounter. Glad Mike was able to correct some of her statements. No one likes their good name to be trashed or misunderstood!
I like both, Ann and Mike. I think they are both good for our country! AND Mike…. Congratulations on such a great show! One I expect to last many years. AND those Little Rockers! They are great.
I agree that Huck did a great job in his one-on-one with Ann Coulter. She didn’t fare so well, however, on The View, They stacked the cards against her, and she wasn’t adequately prepared to defend herself in that “Lion’s Den.” Huck was more gracious and deserves to be elected Commander-In-Chief” in ‘12.
Truly enjoy the show. However, is there any way to contact Mike Huckabee, or rather, is there an address that if I wanted to mail a personal letter or send him a gift, I could do just that?
Thank for the great work!!!! (Mike and FOX NEWS) : )
You sank to a new level Mike when you pulled the Media trick of showing one side of the story on Ann. You showed what Ann Coulter said but did’nt show any clips of what you said, had no proof, thats the oldest trick in the book. Thats not what I would expect from a so-called christian. I guess there is no integrity in politics
Hey Gov. Mike,
What would I ask you if I could, well it looks like I can so I will.
Why don’t you invite me to sing on your show with the band?
I am a christian country writer and singer and would love to work with your band.
Now I know that the chances of that happening are -10 but you said what would I ask you If I could so I did.
Thanks Love your show

Goshen, OH.
You might leave Huckleberry out, but the whole family loves Ann!
The Huck is about as funny as an ingrown toe-nail!
Dear Mike,
You have such a wonderful attitude regardless of what unkind things are said about you.
God Bless
Glad to see Lauren as part of your troupe.
Mr. Huckabee – What effect does being a Christian have on what you choose to feature on your show, how you approach an issue, how you interview a guest, etc.? Will you take on broadcast decency and encourage viewers to actively voice their satisfactions and dissatisfactions? How about featuring both accomplished Christian athletes such as Tim Tebow of the Bowl-winning Florida Gators and other real heroes of substance. Everyone in our society needs more positive role models.
I am glad to be able to comment on Jerry Springer saying he is a liberal and therefore does not judge people by the color of their skin or their station in life, thereby implying that those of us who are conservative DO judge people by the color of their skin or their station in life, which is patently untrue. True conservatives believe in the rule of law applied fairly to all, working for what you achieve, self-determination and responsibility. I wish Mike Huckabee had at least defended conservatives briefly in this exchange with Jerry.
Love your show and have it set on my dvr, one of my favorites. Keep it going. The Little Rockers are great.
Mike – you have a great show. It moves fast, covers a lot of topics and is entertaining. Most importantly, however, is that you manage to treat your guests with manners and respect, and takes on many diverse subjects, while getting your message across. I’m sure your christianity has a lot to do with that; and thank God, somebody is representing christian people with a positive attitude and not downgrading the name. If your guests can’t behave the same way, that’s their problem.
I love Ann Coulter!! There is nothing phony about her, unlike Jerry Springer and (sad to say) Mike Huckabee. I take issue with what Springer said about the Jewish connection with Blacks stating that people shouldn’t be judged by what they look like but what they do. Huh? What does a Jewish person look like? I know what Blacks look like, and most of them are beautiful. Some of them — unfortunately a disproportionate number of them, are criminals or unwed mothers/fathers. Therefore, they are judged accordingly. The liberals and Johnson’s Great Society did that to them. They have been hurt by liberals – not conservatives. The Jews in Germany were discriminated against because of their business sense and keeping the fruits of their labor within their own community. Springer’s explanation was bogus. Both Springer and Huckabee were patronizing to the Blacks, and it was sickening.
I was glad to see Ann Coulter on Mike’s show. She seemed like a different person—not the Ann I have seen at other times. I think it was because Mike showed her respect even though she may have made negative commemnts about him. It was like she didn’t have to get all steamed up and defensive like she does on so many other shows. I really do like Ann. I hope this show stays on for a looong time. We love it and haven’t missed any. Mike, just keep up the positive attitude and good humor. It is so refreshing to see a show where everyone is respected.
Well i just love Ann Coulter and she has been attacked plenty these last few weeks. Maybe she needs more love and rest. Like a good man and settle down, have some kids. God Bless You All. We all have our pits and valleys sometimes. Lauren Green is doing a great job, thanks.
Your show is a breath of fresh air on the otherwise stagnant airwaves of television. Thank you for standing up for what you believe is right and fair. I believe Ann Coulter to be a brave American woman who is not afraid to take on the liberal media and their ilk. She is a hero to me. Fox News and your show rock the house!!
Mike,
You are one of God’s many blessings on this great nation. I read your book and was very humbled and thankful for your ability to communicate the truth.
I am praying for you and for Fox News. This nation is in great need of fair and balanced dialogue.
Tom
I love you Mike, from the first time I saw you on the Tonight Show. I pulled for you, while you were runnning for President and was so disapointed when you withddrew. I enjoy your show and try to alway watch. Keep up the good work. ANd I’m an old lady, who wanted the best for our country, and I thought it would be you. God bless you, always.
Ann didn’t believe Mike was as good a Christian candidate as the man she was supporting. Her opinion in a free speech Democracy. When put on the spot by Mike on Mike’s show I think she did a fine job of defense and Mike was fairly humble and gentle with the attack. When the segment ended and I thought about the exchange I’m sure it was rehearsed. Nothing liberal about liberals – just lies and bigotry.
I think this may have been the best “Huckabee” yet. What a treat with Jerry Springer and Ann Coulter on the show. Mike handled the Ann Coulter interview exceoptionally well. Nice work on the keyboards with the Bellamy Brothers Lauren. Too bad you didn’t get a little more air time with it.
I really enjoy hearing you play and look forward to any of your future performances. By the way, I too thought the Bellamy Brothers wrote “Let Your Love Flow”.
I was very unhappy that Pat Robertson supported Gulliani instead of Mike Huckabee for president. Why christians didn’t support a canidate with christian values is beyond my comprehension.
Mike, your show is great and so is your sense of humor. I hope your show last a long time as it is such a refreshing change.
Lauren use to be on all the time. I missed her. Lauren, wish you were on more often. You are a great person. Great piano player too!
With great admiration for both of you,
Anne
confession: i know she’s abrasive, but i totally have a crush on Ann Coulter
Mike Huckabee…Mike Huckabee…Mike Huckabee…
The real deal!
Now I don’t know which t-shirt to wear: Mike Huckabee for President or Sean Hannity for President. Of course,
Sarah for running mate.
We could be so lucky to have more Mike Huckabee’s in the world, we would be safe, and may the dimple remain ever indented.
Carolle
It is so refreshing to have a talk show host who really listens to the opposing point of view. I’m ultra conservative so agree with much of Hannity and O’Reillys’ views but I would like to hear their guests out without them getting interrupted or talked over. Governor Huckabee handles those with opposing views in a way that makes me feel proud of conservativism and helps me clarify why I am a conservative. Huckabee has become must see TV for me. I encourage others to watch it as well. I think there is something for everyone no matter what their political views. Thank you Governor Huckabee and thank you Fox news for making his program possible.
