She is a modern woman — with a PhD from the UK and one of the most powerful positions in Syria.  Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban is one of the top advisors to Syria’s President Bashar Assad.  She speaks with authority about the situation in Syria and it’s not every day we get time with someone from the top echelons of power there.  And these are particularly interesting times with Secretary of State Clinton’s recent deployment of a couple high-level envoys to Damascus.

Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban was in Britain to speak to students at Oxford among a few other engagements.

The Syrian Ambassador to London, Dr. Sami Khiyami, invited Fox News over to the Embassy to meet with Dr. Shaaban to discuss the diplomatic dynamic going on between America and Syria.

Dr. Shaaban was incredibly positive about recent developments between Damascus and Washington.   She gave her perspective on a full range of current issues, including the prospects for peace with Israel, and how very close Syria and Israel got to reaching an agreement of the land portion of an eventual land for peace deal.  She spoke at length about Iran too.
