H1N1 Vaccine Availability Increasing

“We are getting to the level where it will become significantly easier to find vaccine,” said Thomas Frieden, MD.

The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as of today, 22.4 million doses of H1N1 vaccine are available for shipment to providers. While that figure is not as high as public health officials would like, it represents an 8 million dose increase over the amount of vaccine available last week.

“Eventually there will be enough vaccine for all who want to get vaccinated to get vaccinated,” Frieden said.

Frieden said H1N1 activity is actually beginning to decrease in some parts of the country, including Georgia — where the spread of H1N1 got off to a rapid start (likely because of the early beginning of the school year in that state).

And while that may be good news for your Atlanta-based correspondent, the threat of H1N1 is far from over. Cases continue to increase in other parts of the country.

“H1N1 influenza remains widespread throughout the United States,” Frieden said.

mr. president i heard that regular flu kills 36,000 people worldwide while swine flu has only killed 5,000 worldwide so why consider this a national emergancy? i have never in my life so far have had the flu i don’t see a need in this.mr. president is it true that you or you will allow the government to force the swine flu vaccine on u.s. citzens? why do you declare it a national emergancy when it has only killed 5,000 worldwide and aids kills 2 million worldwide i don’t see h1n1 as a national emergancy. there are other sicknesses in this world that are killing people in larger numbers than what the swine flu is doing but you declare it a national emergancy?

Yes, this is a national emergency H1N1 has hit with the vengeance that few wanted to believe. Absenteeism rates in the Midwest are a staggering 20-30%. The tragic part of the problem is how ill prepared our public school systems are in dealing with the issue. Despite the administration pushing not to close schools Michigan has over 200 schools closed this week because the number of students out of classes exceeds 35%. Schools are an incubator for these types of viruses to spread and if the schools will not equip themselves with the proper products to mitigate the cross-contamination it is going to be a really long winter – with or without a vaccine.
ArmorHealthcare.com has many solutions for schools with a line of very effective products that will help schools and ultimately children. There have been 2x the number of fatalities to date than all of last year of flu related symptoms and 95% have been confirmed H1N1.

I think the misunderstanding is that people are thinking this is the same flu that was back in 1975 but actually through research the Swine Flu today decended from the Spanish Flu which killed millions.. That is why there is the big scare.

Let’s talk for a moment about the importance (or not) of a ‘Post Inoculation Plan’. It is my understanding that once a child is vaccinated, it takes appx. (14) days for the antibodies to boost the immune system against the H1N1 virus. If this be the case, why would we immunize, and then send our kids back into the K-12 population with the risk of contracting the virus still being present? I would opt for a mandatory 2-week ‘vacation’, effective Post-Incolution per School District (teachers with pay, of course) so that the vaccine can do it’s job; and, we in this ‘National Emergency’ can truly monitor the efficacy of the vaccine! We need to protect post vaccination — and establish better guidelines for accountability. Your thoughts, please!

The H1N1 flu vaccine might be getting easier to get for the rest of the country, but not for veterans. The Vaterans Administration informed me they did not know when or if the vaccine will be given to VA clinics throughout the US. I called every clinic and hospital in Florida and was told the same. Veterans screwed again!

The root of this government role goes back to August 1993, when Congress passed Mrs. Clinton’s Vaccines for Children program. A dream of Hillary’s friends at the Children’s Defense Fund, her vaccines plan was to use federal power to ensure universal immunization. So the government agreed to purchase a third of the national vaccine supply (the Clintons had pushed for 100%) at a forced discount of half price, then distribute it to doctors to deliver to the poor and the un- and under-insured…

The result is a cautionary tale for anyone who favors national health care. Already very high in 1993, childhood vaccination rates barely budged. A General Accounting Office report at the time noted that “vaccines are already free” for the truly needy through programs like Medicaid. Meanwhile, however, the Hillary project dealt the vaccine industry another financial body blow.

Thirty years ago, the [National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine] report notes, 25 companies produced vaccines for the U.S. market. Today only five remain…
