This Veterans Day I am grateful to work for a network that truly appreciates the sacrifice each and everyone of our men and women in uniform and their families make for this country. I have been so privileged to meet and get to know many military members and to see through their eyes what challenges we face against terror in the world. Without the deployments, now lasting longer and being repeated for so many military members, we could not truly be safe on American soil. They tell me this again and again, and I believe them.

But what becomes of the soldier that serves day in and day out when involved in an engagement when they return home? Sure on day one there are hugs and thanks and ceremonies celebrating a homecoming but then reality sets in and it sets in fast. Bills, kids, long distance relationships sometimes not strong enough to last and then the issue of employment. What are returning troops to do?

Today, I am at Volt Information Sciences a temporary staffing company that employs tens of thousands of folks in jobs with companies by matching their skills to open assignments.  Its CEO Steven Shaw tells me the military provides training and dedication and motivation beyond what any school can and that is why former military – in this case – Army reservists are in demand. Volt is one of 750 private sector employers that have signed on to the Army Reserve Employer Partnership a program that links employers with jobs to reservists who are given interviews through the Army Reserve website.

Those brave enough to fight for our freedom in our all volunteer Army deserve at least that and more. The employers I have spoken to that are part of this program agree with me on that and they are doing something honorable about it.

I am really happy that we are doing this story today and bringing added attention to what we can do for our veterans on Veterans Day. Our story last week on the civilian jobs available to anyone looking for work and the chance to be a part of the world’s greatest fighting force also will hopefully help many of you find employment.

In Cleveland today there are two stories that have captured the attention of the locals. Ohio has voted to bring gambling to their state and a convicted sex offender is in custody charged with 5 murders and may soon be charged with more authorities say after 10 bodies and a skull were found inside and behind his home.

Since the early morning hours, families of missing women joined local residents to stand outside  the home Anthony Sowell lived in and try to fathom what may have gone on inside. It is a home Sowell, who had served 15 years in prison for rape and returned to in 2005, will likely never return to again if the prosecutor here gets what he wants … A conviction that he says could bring the death penalty.

Today during his first court appearance, Sowell a former marine, acknowledged to the judge he understood the charges against him . So far, at least five counts of aggravated murder, kidnapping, felony assault and rape the last three based on a claim a woman made that she’d been attacked at the house several weeks ago but escaped.

Sowell was registered as a sex offender at the address and though cops visited him since his 2005 release, they never went inside. This has baffled neighbors who say they complained about a smell coming from the home for years. Authorities say the decomposing bodies may have been there that long too. Maybe days, maybe weeks, maybe says the police chief for years. City councilman Zach Reed talked to me about how this could happen, what folks here are saying about it and what needs to be done:

The Carmichael family, one of the families who came here looking for answers this morning … got the one they feared the most. Their loved one was one of the women whose bodies were removed from Sowell’s home. As much as the Carmichaels wanted to know, it had to be truly devastating to learn that the mother two daughters loved so much and the daughter a mom, the elder Mrs. Carmichael who gave her DNA cheek swab to gain that answer, had died in such a violent way. The girls told me for the last week they just had a feeling they would find out.

The coroner says they want families of other missing women to come forward. Without getting maternal DNA samples he says making a match can be tough.

The prosecutor calls Anthony Sowell a dangerous threat to the public. For now he will remain behind bars. His DNA likely unable to be able to be matched the coroner says because of the condition on the bodies. A grand jury will have to decide what Anthony Sowell is facing but it could include the death penalty.

Cops say this is the second worst criminal investigation in the state. The last years involved 14 bodies found at a single location I’m told. If more bodies are found, and cops say they will dismantle the home and check abandoned homes in the neighborhood in case there are more victims yet to be discovered. If the body count rises by just 4, it will be the deadliest crime scene investigators say they’ve ever seen.

I am amazed at the amount of walk in traffic today at the NYC Army Recruitment office where we are doing live shots about the number of opportunities the Army offers civilians it’s hiring. Right after 9/11, there was an outpouring of Americans who felt the patriotic urge to serve. Now, so many years later and with pretty much a guarantee that if you sign up you will deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq, I mistakenly thought Army recruiting efforts for soldiers had dropped.

I recently sat down exclusively with Army Chief of Staff General George Casey (a four star and highly decorated soldier I’d long admired) and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the Army has already exceeded its goal for new recruits this year. That’s great news for the front line mission we have underway in Afghanistan and elsewhere around the World. But what about the many other Americans who still believe that serving our country is a great profession and certainly an honorable one too but might not meet the age or physical fitness requirements of becoming a soldier or who are unable to deploy so far away from home.

Well, General Casey says 325,000 people serve right now as Army civilians and the Army is looking for more. Jobs like crime scene investigators, childcare directors, archeologists, scientists and customer service representatives are just a few of the 550 different jobs the Army fills with civilians.

Almost every day we are reporting about company cutbacks either job losses or benefits curtailment at corporations whose names you know. Meanwhile, the Army offers competitive salaries, healthcare coverage, retirement benefits and if you qualify repayment of your student loans. At some job locations, civilians can actually take advantage of on site childcare. They can also seek out flexible work hours and work environments like job sharing.

General Casey has even begun a new initiative that is mandatory November 1 called resilience training which will provide all Army employees with confidential, on-line assessments and resources to help Army staffers and their families with anxiety and depression using something called Positive Psychology. Positive Psychology or Resilience Training is based on the work and studies of University of Pennsylvania Psychology Professor Dr. Martin Seligman.

I am assigned to our breaking news desk today. That essentially means I am in the control room while we are on the air watching every bit of live and taped pictures feed into FOX. I’ve just done a report after new video came into the control room showing just how much anger there is in the streets in Athens, Greece.

This week, Athens is seeing the worst and most violent rioting it has seen since World War II. The protests and fighting stems from the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy named Alexandros Grigoropoulos. Much of this anger is directed at two police officers who a Greek court has just ruled were responsible for his death. They are being held in jail. One is charged with murder, the second as an accomplice.

But sources report the violence – pelting police with fire bombs and bottles outside the courthouse, in front of Parliament and elsewhere – are also over alleged government corruption. The government is now facing a national strike that has crippled some airports and closed some schools and hospitals. Police are stretched and strained but continue to use tear gas and shields to try to bring calm to the streets.

We will keep an eye on any developments of the violence in Greece. Check FOX News Channel and FOXNews.com for the very latest.

I was back in the “Strategy Room” today and as always it was a lively and spirited two hours! “The Strategy Room” really encompasses “fair and balanced.” You get a topic and then hear about it from all sides. If you are streaming the “Strategy Room” on your computer, you also get to weigh in. GREAT emails came in today and we made our way through so many of them.

For those of us who drop by the “Strategy Room” (Mike Straka the executive producer extends the invitations!) there are no rules, no commercials and no scripts. The talk today… not surprisingly the transition in Washington, foreign affairs under President-elect Obama and the role the United Nations should play in furthering foreign relations and assistance. On the domestic front, the consensus seemed to suggest with the economy continuing to be in turmoil – today being no exception – Americans will watch the transition very carefully for any sign of progress. How will progress be measured? Likely it will have to hit voters in their pocketbooks… where they feel like the message of change and feeling of hope has translated into help that allows everyone to rebuild.

I’m also curious. How much more do you know about how the electoral process works now that this election is over? I bet a lot more. I was sitting at my desk today streaming our new interactive internet show “The Strategy Room.”  It looked like one good time!

Geraldo and Trace Gallagher were chatting with Rick Leventhal who was hosting. I could not let them have all the fun. So I emailed Mike Straka who puts together this all day stream-a-thon and he has done an outstanding job of covering all the news of the day in the most extraordinary way. No rules, no hard time outs for commercials and all the resources to bring streamers live pictures from around the world, our entire team of reporters and guests that drop by the studio to say hi and chat about anything!

When I arrived Geraldo and Rick had moved on to their assignments for the day and Trace was talking about all the action in Washington as we all watch and wait to see if a deal can be made to get our economy back on track. I told Trace I would be happy to address any streamer questions or comments coming in on what we should do to protect ourselves and our families. He remembered that I am an attorney as well as a mortgage and real estate broker (prior life!).

That’s the beauty of The Strategy Room and I’d urge Fox Fans to check it out. When you see an anchor or guest on you want to “chat” with, send a question or comment. We see it and can interact with you in a way we can’t always do on TV.

I’m back at my day job now, getting ready to watch the debate and prepare for our weekend America’s Election Headquarters show. After Senator Hillary Clinton’s big wins in Texas and Ohio, Barack Obama clearly owned Wyoming Saturday…caucus-goers there choosing the Illinois Democrat with a record turnout. Still, the delegate distribution could be termed a “near-tie”, Obama securing 7 more delegates, Clinton walking away with another 5.

Senator McCain remains focused on the Mississippi race Tuesday and then Pennsylvania April 22nd…but how does he keep up the momentum for both the GOP and his plans for a McCain Presidency?

Many of you watched the Congressional hearings during which Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee each told their tale of whether or not Clemens used performance enhancing drugs. Now the FBI is being asked to investigate whether Roger Clemens lied under oath.

Overwhelmingly, you posted comments on the Colbyfiles that one or the other was lying. But I heard a theory – perhaps far-fetched – I want to run by you.

A fellow attorney suggested that McNamee may have injected Clemens with steroids (as he claims) but Clemens may not have known what he was being injected with. In that isolated case, each would in fact be telling the truth.

I admit it’s a long-shot and I’m not even sure the FBI would consider it. But two weeks after we heard and considered the testimony of both:

Who do you think is lying – Clemens or McNamee? Is there any chance they are both telling the truth?

Did Drew Peterson say anything this morning that will provide investigators with a clue that helps solve this double mystery?

I’m particularly troubled by one line Drew used in his television interview this morning….”I just controlled my family”. That was his answer talking about the suspicion he had something to do with Stacy’s disappearance. What did he mean? Does Drew ever give a straight answer?

Attorney Joel Brodsky says there is no evidence in either Kathleen’s death or Stacy’s disappearance connecting Drew to either case. But did this interview help or hurt his case?

Just received this from the Will County State’s Attorneys office – confirming the Illinois State Police have notified Drew Peterson and his attorney that it has revoked his Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. This is interesting since Drew, though named a suspect in the disappearance of fourth wife Stacy, has not been charged with any crime.

The revocation of his I.D. card follows an order by a judge that he should get his guns back…an order the prosecutor argued against. So does this move signal a concern about Drew having guns around his children? Could charges be imminent in either the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio or the disappearance of fourth wife Stacy?

The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office announces that it received confirmation from the Illinois Department of State Police on Wednesday that it has revoked the Firearm Owner’s Identification Card of Drew W. Peterson.

The Illinois Department of State Police confirmed that the department sent a letter to Mr. Peterson on Wednesday informing him of the revocation. Mr. Peterson’s attorney also has been notified.Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow on Tuesday sent a letter to State Police Director Larry G. Trent requesting that his department exercise its authority under 430 Illinois Compiled Statutes 65/8 to revoke Mr. Peterson’s FOID card. Neither the letter from State’s Attorney Glasgow nor the Illinois Department of State Police will be released.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says hold on to your coffee cup!! For 3-hours today more than 7-thousand Starbucks will close…all part of ongoing training to “perk” up employees. I have to admit I just don’t understand what’s so sensational about Starbucks. Maybe it’s the donuts but when it comes to coffee, I’m a Dunkin Donuts girl. But no question, millions of you disagree and are willing to wait and wonder if the three people assigned at your Starbucks to get your one cup of Joe to the finish line will get it right.

Coming his way – new contributors, a warmer, fuzzier feeling from conservative radio show hosts and the chance to move on with just a single day of rumor control.

Breaking news….the Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow advises that Kathleen Savio’s death (Drew Peterson’s third wife) was a homicide. The new autopsy performed after the case was reopened confirms that her death was not an accident as originally ruled but a drowning and that is why it is now re-classified a homicide. This conforms to Dr. Baden’s conclusions after the independent autopsy he performed for the Savio family.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Feb. 21, 2008JOLIET – Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced today that his office has received the final report on the autopsy performed on the remains of Kathleen S. Savio on Nov. 13, 2007.
Dr. Larry W. Blum, the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy, concludes in his report that the actual cause of Kathleen Savio’s death was drowning and that the legal manner of death was homicide. Dr. Blum’s report was delivered to the Will County Coroner’s Office on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 and immediately forwarded to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Illinois State Police.“Dr. Blum’s forensic report renders his expert opinion that this is a homicide,” State’s Attorney Glasgow said. “We have been investigating this as a murder since reopening the case in November of last year. We now have a scientific basis to formally and publicly classify it as such.”The complete autopsy report is a component of the investigation into the March 1, 2004 death of Kathleen Savio and will not be released. However, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Illinois State Police are releasing the following quote from the conclusion in Dr. Blum’s report:

“It is my opinion based on my education, training, experience and personal observations, and to a reasonable degree of medical and scientific certainty, compelling evidence exists to support the conclusions that the cause of death of Kathleen S. Savio was drowning and further, that the manner of death was homicide.”

This was the second autopsy performed on Kathleen Savio’s remains. The first was performed shortly after her death in March 2004. Her body was exhumed on the morning of Nov. 13, 2007, and Dr. Blum performed the second autopsy that afternoon.

In his report, Dr. Blum notes that he reviewed photos taken from the scene at the time of Kathleen Savio’s death as well as reports of the initial scene investigation. He also carefully examined the physical location of Kathleen Savio’s death on Nov. 20, 2007 as part of his investigation.

His report includes the results of microscopic examinations and toxicological tests conducted on postmortem tissue specimens. The specimens examined by Dr. Blum were collected during the first autopsy on March 2, 2004, the second autopsy performed by Dr. Blum on Nov. 13, 2007, and a third autopsy performed by Dr. Michael Baden on behalf of Kathleen Savio’s family on Nov. 16, 2007.

The results of those examinations and tests are part of the investigation and are not being disclosed at this time.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the murder of Kathleen Savio as well as the disappearance of Stacy Peterson. Kathleen Savio’s murder and Stacy Peterson’s disappearance are simultaneously being investigated by a Special Grand Jury that was convened in November 2007.

After thousands of your comments and emails reached city council members and Berkeley’s mayor, the Berkeley City Council revised the part of its resolution calling the Marines “unwelcome intruders”, but it still wants the Marines to move.

Council members took note of the huge crowds of pro troop supporters outside city council meetings and at the recruiting office (where Code Pink supporters have – thanks to the Mayor – a city approved and assigned parking space) and of the national outrage expressed in The ColbyFiles blog and others.

Still council members have held firm on their demand that Berkeley is no place for brave American women and men to sign up to serve.

Working alongside those of you who support our troops, MoveAmericaForward.org will launch a new ad campaign tomorrow continuing to put pressure on the council to change its mind.

Barack Obama made an unprecedented 45 minute speech last night (to me it seemed like a convention nomination acceptance speech) repeating his platform and promises for big change. A filled beyond capacity crowd in Houston applauding and hanging on every word while Hillary Clinton spoke to supporters in Ohio with much less airtime.

Upcoming races in Ohio and Texas are critical for Hillary whether or not she can turn the all-important superdelegates her way (they make up 20% of the democratic delegate count). While Obama is ahead in delegates neither candidate is guaranteed the 2025 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

So what do you think Senator Clinton should do:

a) hang in there and keep campaigning because it ain’t over till it’s over

b) bow out and get back to being a senator

c) work out a deal for the #2 spot and join forces with Obama

A devoted psychotherapist finds herself facing a meat cleaver wielding madman on Manhattan’s upper east side. Her colleague hearing her screams comes to her rescue and is critically wounded…the psychotherapist Kathryn Faughey…bludgeoned to death so brutally, two of nine knives the killer brought with him including the meat cleaver are bent. The killer is caught on surveillance cameras casually entering and exiting the building carrying two bags – containing women’s clothing cops say, the knives and adult diapers.

Thomas Ruskin is a former NYPD Detective and he joined me today at the crime scene. He’s currently a security expert here in Manhattan. Especially helpful to me – he lives across the street from where this tale of terror took place. It is a crime scene he describes as about as gruesome as it gets. Both victims put up a brave and extensive fight he is told by NYPD investigators. A man initially called a suspect is questioned in Pennsylvania Thursday then released. Below I’ve posted a sketch based on the horrifying witness account of a patient who happened to be in the office at the time of the attack and the doctor who tried to save Kathryn Faughey’s life.

But here is my question for you:

Investigators wanted to check patient records in this case but were told because of privacy concerns (and strict new laws on patient privacy) they could not. Would you give up your privacy to help cops crack such a brutal crime?

Are you watching the Congressional hearings on the alleged steroid use by Roger Clemens? Roger Clemens ended his opening statement in an emphatic way…insisting that he has never used human growth hormone or steroids. Never.

Brian McNamee continuing to insist he is not lying and that he did inject Roger Clemens. In fact he states today that now that he has had a chance to think about it, he injected Roger Clemens more times than he previously testified to.

So with both Clemens and McNamee insisting their positions are correct….

More than one thousand of you have commented on my post about the Berekely City Council’s request that the Marine Recruiters there hit the road. If you haven’t seen it, click here.

Berkeley’s Mayor has even offered to help the Marines get out of their recruiting office lease early. Senator Jim DeMint, who doesn’t even represent California took swift action…proposing legislation that would strip Berkeley of some of its federal funding after the Berkeley City Council passed a formal resolution that if the Marines choose to stay they are doing so as “unwelcome intruders“.

You have overwhelming supported the actions of Senator DeMint and hundreds of you cared enough to write Mayor Tom Bates and the City Council members who voted in favor of that resolution ordering the Marines to go. Now I’ve learned you can take your support a step further.

Joe Wierzbicki of MoveAmericaForward.org, tells me they will rally at the Marine recruiting office in Berkeley Tuesday.

My co-anchor Eric Shawn taught me a new phrase. Obamicans. These are Republicans who do not see what they want in either the GOP frontrunner for the nomination- John McCain-or the evangelical christian favorite Mike Huckabee and are throwing their support for Barack Obama.

On our You Decide 2008 coverage this morning, I interviewed Susan Eisenhower granddaughter to President Dwight D. Eisenhower about her support for the Democratic candidate. She is, she insists, a Republican who has no intention of leaving the GOP party. So why is she “crossing over” the aisle to become an “Obamican”?

Eisenhower believes we are obligated to leave this country better than we found it. She told me Barack Obama is the only candidate that has and will reach – she believes -across the aisle and bring bi-partisan support to the issues that matter most.

I asked her about the importance of military experience in the White House, something her grandfather President Eisenhower surely tapped into with all the international affairs he had to tackle while in office! She says her grandfather would respect her choice and had similar priorities in choosing a candidate…dismissing Obama’s lack of direct military expertise.

And she insists her decision to support Barack Obama is NOT a move against Hillary Clinton but a move toward what she believes this country needs.

I’m not re-stating what she said on the show to take a position but I did want to raise the potential for other “Obamicans” and ask you:

How many Republicans to you think will cross parties in a general election and why? Which issue facing Americans would most lead the right to go left?

Have you seen the hidden camera footage of Joran van der Sloot bragging about what happened to Natalee Holloway the night she disappeared? A sting operation in Holland yielded hours of tape of Joran and exposed in Joran’s own words what happened the night Joran met Natalee, took her to a beach and as Joran says, dumped her in the ocean. On the tape Joran even admits he can’t be sure if Natalee was dead when she was thrown in the deep waters off Aruba. In fact he says she may have still been alive.

This may or may not bring some closure to Natalee’s family. Her mother Beth has said that she now knows Natalee is not going to come home. Like most of us, she was holding on to that slight shred of hope. I found the tapes so disturbing…Joran so cold and cowardess. How could he not call an ambulance?

Now that this new evidence is available, do you think Joran should be charged? If the Aruban authorities do not proceed, do you think U.S. authorities should?

How can we guarantee the safety of U.S. citizens when they travel abroad if our government can not pursue justice on their behalf?

With Governor Mitt Romney and America’s Mayor Rudy Guiliani out of the GOP race for the nomination, will John McCain satisfy conservatives and nail the nomination? Presidential politics has never been “cheap” – it costs big bucks to run a successful campaign. For both the Democrats and Republicans, this year’s race is perhaps the most expensive we’ve ever seen. That was something Governor Romney had in his favor…the ability to fund to a greater extent than the other candidates his own campaign.

UPDATE: HERE’S BRET AND ME ON SET LAST NIGHT

What is so interesting about covering election returns is how fast and furious it can be! California surprised us…allowing for an early projection though…and then there was the wicked weather in the southern state we needed to cover as well.

Bret is a great anchor and a really super guy. It’s hard to get the chance to spend time with our DC folks since like us they are always on the move. During the commercials I was able to learn more about what Bret is up to, how his beautiful wife and baby boy are doing and what it was like to spend all that time with the President for his Fox Special (if you haven’t seen it look for it to re-air soon).

This weekend we will both be covering more caucuses and primaries – keep it on Fox for the latest on the race for the White House!

I have been here at our Super Tuesday World Headquarters for a few hours now and I’ll be sticking around till Bret Baier and I finish our show at 5am eastern. In the “Greenroom”, I’ve been chatting with the newest member of the Fox family, Karl Rove about how the evening is going for each of the candidates and who might be most on edge. I can’t steal his thunder so definitely listen to what he has to say on our air.

While some polling stations will close as early as 12:30 pm today (West Virginia’s Republican-only caucus), California voters can select their candidate until 11pm pacific time. That means this race will be one of the most exciting (history making in terms of the number of primaries today) and perhaps toughest to call. California has the most delegates to offer and winning there could – very late in the day – turn an already very close race.

There are a number of articles today – the Wall Street Journal among them – that explains how differently the Democrats and Republicans allocate delegates in different states and then there are those states on the Republican side that offer “winner take all” races. Candidates today are voting in their homestates and making whatever last ditch efforts they can to visit other states the polls suggest they should.

I’ll be following it all (confession: politics junkie) and co-hosting with Bret Baier two hours of our “You Decide 2008″ coverage on Fox News Channel from 3-5 am eastern (just after those all important California polls close)…
