Hanging Out with Carrie Underwood

carrie_underwood_111908FOX got to hang out with Carrie Underwood twice during our recent Nashville trip! I interviewed her at the BMI awards, while Fox Entertainment Producer Extraordinaire Ashley Dvorkin talked to her backstage at the Country Music Awards just after her big win (again!) for Female Vocalist of the Year. Carrie also co-hosted the CMAs and told us how fun it was having her mother and aunt cheering her on from the audience!

I’ve heard that Carrie is shy, but she seemed very comfortable when we talked to her. She gave us great interviews!  She talked about how much she loves the country community and gave us her reaction to stars from Jessica Simpson to Darius Rucker crossing over from pop to country (She’s happy for them.)

P.S. It was COLD during our Nashville trip, but Carrie braved the elements in beautiful evening gowns – while we stood behind the cameras wearing long sleeves and winter boots!  As you can imagine, I felt the opposite of glamorous next to her! Watch below to check out Carrie’s interview for yourself!

The Best and Worst Dressed of the CMA’s

By FNC iMag Style Host Noelle Watters

I may not be a country music enthusiast, but when it comes to country star style, I’m a # 1 fan.  And watching the 42nd Annual CMA’s made me a proud one at that.  The young country crooners looked gorgeous- elegant but glamorous, understated but not boring!  There wasn’t a glammed-up cowboy hat or pair of bedazzled chaps in sight!

Carrie Underwood was by far the star to watch as she hosted, performed, and changed what seemed like every twenty minutes!  She arrived in a canary yellow Roberto Cavalli gown with a plunging neckline and beading around the waistline.  Stunning. Another bright star (literally in bubble gum pink) was Julianne Hough wearing a ruffled, one-shouldered Angel Sanchez number.  Is she not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?  I for one was glad to see her on the red carpet healthy and looking gorgeous!  Jewel also opted for color, in a royal blue Roberto Cavalli Grecian style.  I told you months ago bright colors were the way to go, and these girls definitely agreed.

White was another red carpet trend, and it some cases it worked and in others, not so much. Miley Cyrus being only fifteen is always going to have difficulty dressing her age. It’s hard for a young teenager to put on a gown and not look like she raided her mom’s closet.  In this case however, she made it work.  Her Roberto Cavalli halter-neck dress had a lovely floral skirt, and was not too childish or too sexy.  Kellie Pickler on the other was very va-va-va-voom in a silvery white beaded gown from Zuhair Murad.  She’s only 19!  Too much, too heavy, and too tight!!!  One of my favorite dresses of the night was also white- a gorgeous style from Temperley London worn by Jennifer Nettles.  This dress was modern, refreshing, soft and pretty.

Probably the biggest disappointment of the evening was the stars that left the Hollywood Hills to spend a night in the country.  They shouldn’t have!  Nicole Kidman looked boring in a knee-length, fringe draped dress.  Is that the best she could do?  On the other hand, Reese Witherspoon totally overdid it in a Marchesa one-shouldered black lace gown.  I loved the one shoulder, hated the rest.  Reese – a dress is no longer elegant if you can see your midriff.  I hate this star trend.

Finally for my favorite!  Taylor Swift looked amazing in her silver beaded Kaufman Franco dress.  Unlike Pickler’s, the fully beaded gown didn’t look too heavy or too tight.  She looked glamorous and feminine without looking tarty.

I’m off to buy an Underwood CD.  If I can like country star style so much, maybe I can learn a tune or two!

Hello, Kid Rock — Goodbye, Nashville!

By Ashley Dvorkin, FOX News entertainment producer

Kid Rock doesn’t need to yell “what’s my name” anymore… we know.

We also know he’s an artist coming off an incredible summer with his album “Rock and Roll Jesus” climbing the charts, and he seems to be on a constant tour. So, let’s just say he’s not the easiest one to catch up with — but we finally did! (many thanks to his great publicity team!)

I can brag that I was probably well qualified for this interview being familiar with his music since my brother blasted it from across the hall (date omitted) but let’s just say a long time ago.  So with his gold shades in tact and as laid-back “rocker-cool” as you’d expect, i jumped right in to talk about his tour and album plans and his famous live show (he runs around the stage playing every instrument and now… every genre!)  Plus, we got into how he fits right into the country world and Nashville scene (although still very loyal to Detroit!).  And on a side-note, I’ve been hearing the past couple days about some impromptu shows he gave at downtown bars. So yeah, I’d say he’s right at home here!

Time to say goodbye to music city, but what a sweet note to end on right?
Rock on.

CMA Show Wrap/ Backstage

By Ashley Dvorkin, FOX News entertainment producer

Carrie Underwood takes a third in a row win as Female Vocalist of the Year – proving my theory that American Idol really has taken over this town! She had her mom and aunt with her so it was a really special night. Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney – all winners too – probably not surprising.

darius_rucker_rev1We sat in the backstage media room for a little while in our one-on-one room and first to show was Darius Rucker who came after his performance – solidifiying his place in this country music world even further and then… it was wait time.

Followed by the rush of stars!

Carrie Underwood sat with us to talk about how special the win is because she and her team have worked so hard this year! Brad Paisley talked about that emotional moment when he ran up to his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley in the audience when he won (the entire media center had a collective “aww”)…
Kenny Chesney came back to join us too to talk about his winning streak, playing some impromptu shows in town, collaborating with all different kinds of artists, and maybe taking some time off soon before he hits the road next year for a tour!

Overall an exciting night for Nashville, and of course for those of us just visiting too!

CMA’s: On the Scene

By Ashley Dvorkin, FOX News entertainment producer

The Rascal Flatts vocal group of the year winner just came back to talk to the press – I like how they mentioned its easy to harmonize because they can basically sense what the other is going to do next… their equation for success I guess!
Lady Antebellum who won the new artist award is back here now and country newbie Darius Rucker is on his way back! We talked to him out on the carpet but… there are always more questions!

Stay tuned for more!
