Where/What in the World?

OK….a couple of things. First I went back through and made some comments and answered questions in previous posts. Second, I was on a plane and traveling much of today, so where am I am what am I doing for work? OH….I am sure looking forward to a few of your responses….imaginations can run wild on this blog. Also, Greta and a couple of others have suggested we change the name to adamwire….what do you think? Finally, what did you think about the O’Reilly interview last night with Hillary Clinton? On the ‘Caruso Brothers’ thread, one of their brothers in Italy posted in italian…go figure. Problem is….I don’t speak italian…can someone translate? A ton of questions…so have at it.

This story comes from Washington DC as President Bush proclaimed April as National Donate Life month…. and also from one of the loyalists here on the blog…..Patty. She passed along this information and I couldn’t agree more with her efforts and others like her. For example… Did you know…
One Donor can . . .
…Save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people.
…Donate kidneys to free two people from dialysis treatments.
…Give sight to two people by donating corneas.
…Donate bone to help repair injured bones and joints.
It is important to opt for the donor choice while signing your driver’s license (in California put on a pink sticker) or signing up for your state’s donor registry. Also, let your wishes be known, tell your family because the will make the final decision. None of us want to ever face this, I hope to be around for a long time. But if that time does come, think about all the people and their families who will get a new lease, or look at life. Patty tells me they have been a donor family not once, but twice. My thoughts and prayers are with them. As she said in an e-mail to me “Peoples lives can be saved, even in the loss of someone very precious.”

CAPTURED!!

EXCLUSIVE INFO AND DETAILS: THIS INFO JUST IN FROM A PRODUCER I WORK WITH IN MEXICO….JORGE. HE WAS AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE. This picture was taken by Jorge as he obviously stood in front of the suspect. Another picture follows the link. Jorge tells me Laurean spoke very slowly, unnatural when asked questions. He was wearing jeans and a shirt and looked like he was in a bit of a trance

The fugitive was arrested at approximately 7:00 pm in San Juan de Vina, Municipio de Tacambaro, in the State of Michoacan. Jorge took down this quote… “Strong cooperation between Mexican and U.S. authorities increasingly ensures that those who commit crimes in either country will ultimately face capture and prosecution no matter where they might try to hide.” Also Jorge tells me that Laurean

MORE EXCLUSIVE DETAILS ABOUT THE CAPTURE He was just walking down the street at 7:00pm Thursday night in a town outside of Morelia, Mexico. The area is called Tacambaro and I am told by my contacts in the region that police officers were doing a routine inspection of a neighborhood. That’s where officers walk the beat and talk to people. When they approached Cesar Laurean and said hello and asked him a routine question or two, he didn’t respond. That was suspicious, so they asked him again. This time he responded in english, which isn’t normal for a neighborhood not associated with tourism and he told them his name, the officers didn’t put two and two together at the time. However, they did take him into custody because suspicions were now obviously high and when they got him to the station, they matched the wanted picture on the wall. Laurean only had 10 pesos on him at the time of his arrest and he was eating an avocado. Keep Reading …

Travel Woes

For about three weeks the delay’s and cancellations have plagued the airline world here in the states. We were in England when they opened the new Heathrow terminal and the chaos that followed.

My experience with American Airlines has generally been fine, I fly them all the time. However, I had another bad flying experience when headed across the pond. Virgin Atlantic lost our bag and it took nearly a week to get it back. We never had any idea IF and WHEN we would get the bag.

They wouldn’t deliver it to the hotel, so it cost not one, but two cab trips to the airport because the only phone number for Virgin Atlantic is a baggage hotline that gets routed to a call center in India. There are no customer relations phone numbers and we were told to send any concerns to an e-mail address. As of yet, our concerns and bills, which mount (including international phone calls and tips to the concierge) to more than $350, have yet to be returned. I also sent a fax with no response as of this writing.

Oh….my bag arrived with multiple rips in it.

Not a fun arrival in London, but at least we landed safely. Unfortunately, international or domestic, these types of stories seem to only be getting more numerous.

What are some of your travel nightmares and what can be done to remedy this situation?

Keep an Eye out!

You are the eyes and ears in this free country. We’ve all heard stories and/or reports that seem one-sided, or unfair. Not from pundits or opinion makers, I am talking about supposed impartial news reports that are really not as such. For example, tonight I am driving home and I hear a report about Sec. State Rice heading to the Middle East to try and restart peace talks. The reporter said the talks had broken off because of “Israeli Incursions,” nothing else was mentioned. No matter where you stand on the issues in the Middle East, you have to agree there’s much more to the story…including the many rocket attacks into Israeli towns. That fact was excluded from the story.

I have been meaning to start this thread for a long time, so why not now. This can’t be speculation, you actually have to cite time, place etc…or just comment on some of the posted complaints. Have Fun.

Airports…Lovely Airports

gdansk-airport.jpg

I have been meaning to post this for a while, but since we have spent some serious time in airports the last 6 months and in specific, the last few weeks, I had to start this post. Sky Harbor here in Phoenix isn’t one of my favorites. First you have to go 30 miles away to get the rental car, or so it seems, then the signage is very inadequate. Plus you’ve got two different sides to pick people up…the place can get real frustrating. San Francisco’s airport has some issues getting to your rental car and Las Vegas has a new car terminal like Phoenix….too far away also. So….I have decided to list my top airports here stateside, we’ll talk about international at a later time. Give me your best, worst, or what you like. Here are my favorites…yeah, I know they are smaller and in no particular order: Sacramento, Tucson, New Orleans, Salt Lake City.

SUPER TUESDAY

In about a week and a half we’ll likely have a much better idea which two candidates will face off this fall. Super Tuesday includes California this time around and Fox is all over the coverage. This will be the new political opinion thread for now, replacing the ever popular ‘Who do you love?’ So OPINE AWAY!

Who Do you Love?!

vote.jpgOK…so while we are toiling around South America for some fantastic stories (in my humble opinion), I am honoring some requests to post a political opinion thread.

Here you can yap about all things politics, specifically elections. We have the caucus in Nevada and some others, super tuesday, etc. I of course won’t give you my opinion, I am undecided at this point.

I will tell you many times politicians, from both parties and all levels, frustrate the heck out of me. So many good leaders now stay out of politics and so many people in politics started that way out of college.

They are removed from the rest of the world. AND as I like to tease my friends in DC…..believe it or not, people live west of the beltway and we even own computers!

So what do YOU think?

ist2_2228037_question_mark_box.jpg

Tonight I WILL post a picture of the day for all to debate and theorize. I’ll also explain the rules for all the new people on the blog. In the meantime I wanted to get your opinion on a few things.First, what were your stories of the year and what were your favorites that we covered? What do you think will top the headlines this year and where will I end up? I’ll post my answers in a day or so.

Right now we are on our way to San Diego for a story that will air soon. I am going to get great behind the scenes video and will post the vid and my written story the day it all airs. Sorry, no hints on this one, but go ahead and leave me your favorites and predictions!
