The Search for Stacy Peterson

While in Bolingbrook last weekend I went out on a search with Dr. Michael Baden. I just received some photos from Dr. Baden and I am posting them here. I also shot video after Dr. Baden was asked by the professional search team to check an area – it looked like a ditch – where they’d uncovered bones.

These turned out to be animal bones and the search for Stacy seems more focused in the water now then on land but the cold weather will work in the investigators favor as you will hear Dr. Baden explain when I post the video interview I shot with him in the field on Monday. So check back!!

I just got this new video camera and will try to post many more exclusive videos for you in the weeks to come.

My conversation with Drew

This last weekend I had some serious deja vu. Many of you are going through the same thing, watching the coverage of the Stacy Peterson disappearance, and remembering the Laci Peterson case. Missing young wife… husband under a cloud of suspicion, Christmas time, cute neighborhoods, mysterious circumstances. It’s all there.

I did live reports all weekend from the outside of Drew and Stacy’s house in Bolingbrook, talking to neighbors, family members, search volunteers and eventually Drew Peterson. Just like Scott Peterson, he seems a little calm about the fact that his wife is missing and hasn’t been heard from in four weeks. As we always say, everyone handles stress, anxiety, and fear differently, so it’s not fair to cast judgment when we don’t know all of the facts, but boy, it sure feels strange.

Some of the people I talked to who know Stacy very well, and had daily contact with her, told me they were surprised that Drew hasn’t asked them once if they’ve heard from Stacy. Seems odd. Drew Peterson’s side of the story: his 23-year old wife ran off with another man and left him, but we’ve heard from most everyone who knew Stacy, that Drew didn’t allow much time for that opportunity, and she never would have left her kids. He reportedly watched her every move, followed her around, and was always suspicous of her activities outside her house.

I was in my rental car outside his house yesterday when he pulled up with his brother. You’ve seen Drew in the past ambushed by reporters in his driveway… but this time, there was no one else around except for our camera crew a few feet away and me sitting in my car writing my next report. As he was walking up his pathway, I flung open my door, put my pen behind my ear (which you can see in the tape of us talking… just wanted to explain that white thing in my hair) and ran across the street to see if he would talk to me, and he did. I asked him first about his kids, because Paul his brother had told me that we were scaring the children by being outside. Drew says he’s mostly annoyed by the early morning reporters who power up the generators before the sun comes up to illuminate his house to do their live shots, and it wakes them up. Remember Stacy and Drew’s little ones are only 2 and 4, and the other two kids are young too.

While we were talking I notices a very comfortable ease with his demeanor, I wouldn’t expect him to be panicked while talking to me, it has been four weeks… but he just seemed very calm to me, was pleasant and had a smile. He said he didn’t know what was going on in the investigation to find his missing wife, and said “Why don’t you tell me?”

I asked him if he knew one of his older sons, a police officer, is reportedly testifying in front of the grand jury this week about this case, and that of Drew’s 3rd wife that was found dead in her bathtub, and he said he didn’t know about it. I asked him point blank what his story was about the report that he was seen loading a blue barrel out of his house with a friend around the same time that Stacy was reported missing, and he shrugged that off with a smile, and said he had nothing to say about that and shook his head, like “no way, that didn’t happen.” Then HE brought up the scuba diving weights that are reportedly missing from his house. We’ve been hearing that Drew had a lot of scuba gear in the garage, and that when the search warrant was executed, the weights were gone. He says not true. He went on to say that he hopes that the FBI’s involvement in the case will help clear his name and then said he had to go inside. I had so many other questions for him….

I’ve talked to people who have been questioned by investigators about Drew and Stacy’s bedroom furniture. One person reportedly has said that they saw Drew carry out a nightstand that was there when cops originally took pictures inside their house after she vanished, and then when they went back to take more pictures, it was gone. A neighbor who knows Stacy well, was asked by the cops to draw the layout of the furniture in that room on a piece of paper.

As I said in my last blog… it could be nothing, it could be everything, but I have a feeling we will be hearing more about this in the future.

Meeting Drew Peterson

I caught up with Drew Peterson yesterday outside his house in Bolingbrook. It was a quick conversation, one that wasn’t planned and not many people were around for. I have a lot to tell you, and wasn’t able to get to blogging after it happened because I had to do a live shot, drive like mad to the airport in Chicago, fly to New York (home at 1:45am!) And be on a shoot this morning in Long Island about solar panels. That’s what makes this business so unpredictable!

I found Drew to be very relaxed, and very calm. I’m getting my laptop out now in the back seat of our crew’s SUV to blog more, its pouring rain here in Long Island (nice daty for a shoot on solar panels, ‘eh?). And its easier to do that way.

Stand by!

HEADING TO BOLINGBROOK

Talk about a quick change in plans!

I’m writing this to you while on a plane to Chicago. I was scheduled to do live reports tomorrow from New York on a school district in Demarest, New Jersey that installed security cameras in the elementary school hallways, cafeterias and gyms, but now I’m off and running to Illinois.

I’ll be doing live shots now in front of Drew and Stacy Peterson’s Bolingbrook home, where the missing mother of two vanished from October 28th. I have been watching and reporting on the story from New York, and am glad to be going. Like many people I want to help find her, and it’s the number one way we can help in the media, to keep the story alive by providing continuous investigative reports. One of the things you may have seen, reported on lately was the photo shoot Drew Peterson was doing outside his home for People magazine. When I got to LaGuardia airport, I went to the magazine stand to see if the issue was out. And there he was on the cover, along with pictures of two of the four women he has married in his life. As you know, wife number 3 is dead under mysterious circumstances, wife number 4, Stacy Peterson has vanished.

I’ll be blogging from the scene starting tomorrow, and just got a new card reader for my camera (I’ve been having some troubles with downloading pictures…..) So, be sure to come back to the blog… I’ll let you know what I find out when I get there.

See you in Bolingbrook.

My Conversation Today With Drew Peterson

While the media remains camped out outside Drew Peterson’s Bolingbrook, Illinois home he is inside and so are his and Stacy’s children. Drew is screening calls but took mine late this afternoon after I started to leave a voicemail. It sounded like the kids were playing in the background. It’s been reported Drew has told them Stacy is on a vacation.

I’m surprised we aren’t talking more about how these four young children are doing. “The media is making it really tough on my kids” Drew told me today. “Are they back in school?” I asked. “Yes” he says “I wouldn’t keep that from them”. I’m told that Drew’s oldest, about to turn 15, is very smart and hasn’t missed a day of classes since Stacy vanished. Stacy and Drew have a 2 and 4 year old but Stacy also adopted two of Drew’s older children….two boys he had with Kathleen Savio.

I’m sure the media outside the Peterson home is disruptive to the children and I don’t know if the older ones know why the trucks, reporters and lights are there. The early morning I was outside we saw Drew’s son leave for school but we did not shoot him with our cameras. He is a teenager who has one Mom who died in 2004 and now another missing three years later. We also did not show the younger children the day they were carried out when the police arrived to execute their search warrant. It’s unclear if any of them know anything about what happened to Kathleen Savio or Stacy Peterson but that is for the police, not news crews to find out in our judgment.

Drew said he would be on the show tomorrow (Drew’s Mom was on last week and you can listen to that interview in a post below) and I hope he will keep his word. If Drew does do the interview it will be on when I anchor Fox News Live 12 noon eastern on the Fox News Channel.

Drew confirmed to me that as a result of his resignation from the police department he will keep his pension and he told me he is interviewing and deciding on attorneys who will represent him as developments into the investigation of Stacy’s disappearance and Kathleen Savio’s death progress. Though he has not been charged with any crime he told me today he “wants to be prepared”.

In the meantime, Drew and his four children (two older ones live in other towns) are inside their house tonight…a house from my tour inside clearly designed to meet the kids every need. Every inch designed Drew proudly told me weeks ago when he took me room to room…by Stacy.
